According to Billboard , Adele is leading in categories including Top Artist, Top Female Artist and Top Billboard 200 Artist. Her breakthrough hit, “Rolling in the Deep,” is a contender in seven different categories. Adele has plenty of female companionship, as and Lady Gaga are also finalists in a number of categories, with 13 for Rih Rih and 10 for Lady Gaga. Lil Wayne is also up for 10 categories, while party rockers LMFAO are finalists in 17. The awards are based on Billboard’s chart rankings, and combine data from album sales and downloads, track downloads, radio airplay and touring in addition to streaming and social interactions with fans on Facebook, Twitter, Vevo, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online music services. The show will take place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand and be broadcast live on ABC on May 20. Among the leading categories: Top Artist : Adele, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Katy Perry, Rihanna. Top New Artist : Bad Meets Evil, Big Sean, Foster the People, Scotty McCreery and Wiz Khalifa. Top Male Artist : Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Drake, Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars. Eight months after announcing her engagement to Christian Evans , Ricki Lake is a married woman. She eloped with her fiance, according to reports! “They had been planning on doing it this way and didn’t want a big spectacle,” a source explained to Us . ” Ricki is so happy ! She really found love again.” Lake dropped a not-so-subtle hint on Twitter Tuesday with a fuzzy but stunning shot of herself, clad in a lacy wedding gown and holding a bouquet. That could be construed as a wedding announcement of sorts: “Yup, this is me,” the actress and talk show host, 43, Tweeted along with the photo seen above. “Sadie Sadie married lady. 🙂 🙂 Love is in the air. Madonna’s new album MDNA has sort of crashed and burned, posting nowhere close to the kind of sales figures one would expect from the Queen of Pop. The record sold 359,000 copies when it debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, but has since plummeted to 46,000 copies in its second week of release. While many acts would be grateful to sell 400,000-plus units, it’s a letdown for one of the all-time greats, not to mention a record-setting dropoff . Is she the Immaterial Girl? Interestingly, in its first week of release, her manager Guy Oseary said of MDNA : “People are really digging it. We feel good about the album. It’s her 12th album and the same story she had 30 years ago. That’s an amazing accomplishment.” Some critics agree that it’s the same story as 30 years ago. They just don’t see it as a big selling point for Madonna. Said the Los Angeles Times: ” MDNA more than anything sounds like an album made by someone who lost touch with the desires of today’s music… the Madonna of today has lost the art of surprise.” Ouch.

Whitney Houston becomes the first woman to place three albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart at the same time. As previously reported Houston had Whitney: the Greatest Hits , the soundtrack to The Bodyguard and her debut album Whitney place #2, #6 and #9 on the Billboard 200, respectively. This makes Houston the first-ever woman to place three separate albums in the top 10 at the same time. Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are still going strong, as the couple were spotted out just last night on a date in Los Angeles. But the 19-year old singer has called it quits with the other steady presence in her life, telling Facebook followers over the weekend that she and backup band The Scene won’t be playing together for a bit. “My band and I are going our separate ways for a while,” Selena wrote. “This year is all about films and acting and I want my band to play music wherever with whoever. We will be back but, it will be a good while. I love them and I love you guys.” Gomez and The Scene released “When the Sun Goes Down” last year, an album that peaked at number-three on the Billboard 200 chart. But it’s true that Selena’s film career is taking off: she’ll voice a character in Adam Sandler’s animated Hotel Transylvania later this year; and then star alongside James Franco and Vanessa Hudgens in Spring Breakers , a movie about a group of college girls who take over a fast-food joint in order to finance their Florida spring break.
