Jessica Simpson: It’s Time to Say Goodbye [Goodbyes]

With her latest stab at relevancy—a new single and a VH1 show— Jessica Simpson is yet again being shoved down our collective gullet. It’s time for this uninteresting, talentless person to take a hike. Forever! I usually scoff at people who criticize celebrities by saying, “They’re just famous for being famous.” But Jessica Simpson is something worse—she’s famous for trying to be famous. She isn’t defined by any quantifiable event, talent, or success, but by a constant striving, one that often leads to disastrous failure. The same came be said for “Who We Are” her new single (below), which is a indistinguishable amalgam of pleasant electronic bleeps that will float across your brain as amiably and forgettably as a cloud in a bright sky. It’s the theme song for her new show, The Price of Beauty , that starts next month on VH1 and which features her traveling around the world trying out beauty regimens from different cultures. Not a bad concept if we weren’t so sick of seeing her face—plastered over with cosmetics—glaring back at us in the televised version of hell. When she started, she was just another big-breasted, blonde Britney Spears impersonator with a good voice and very determined father. She had some moderate success thanks to corporate marketing and a naive female fan base, but none of her early hits are that memorable. We probably would have been rid of her by now if it weren’t for a little thing called reality television. In 2002, MTV debuted Newlyweds , an “inside look” at her recent marriage to boybander Nick Lachey . Her ditsy persona (or was it her real personality?) took off immediately and America tuned in to see her latest bout with sitcom stupidity and her grappling with various food-related mysteries, like what kind of animal a Chicken of the Sea is and where Buffalo wings come from. Simpson quickly morphed into a marketing robot, hawking pizza and dubious skin care regimens. With the sound of cash registers echoing in her voluminous hair, Americans soon forgot who she was. You never said, “She sings that song,” or “She’s the star of that movie.” You said, “Oh, she’s the stupid girl from MTV.” For a while, Simpson was everywhere and we had no real idea why that was, other than we were told to like her and she was busy pawning stuff off on us. She tried to be more than that, sure. She wanted to be a real star who could do things other than pitch unnecessary corporate goods. But her albums soon stopped selling and she skipped from dud to dud, trying to act in Dukes of Hazzard and something ineffable with Dane Cook. Then, like Jean-Claude Van Damme before her, her flicks went direct to DVD. She tried to make the switch from pop to country, but even stupid Christians in the Bible Belt didn’t want her at that point. Like a rotten tomato stuck behind the crisper, she was starting to stink up the joint, but no one could clean her out. Why? Blame the Celebrity Industrial Complex ! Even though we were no longer interested in her entertainment products, she’d started a career as a professional girlfriend, going out very publicly with musician John Mayer and then Dallas Cowboy Tony Romo . The rumors are still swirling that she’s inexplicably dating Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan , which would be the most interesting thing she’s done in five years. And when she needs a little career bump she hits the cover of Vanity Fair or Oprah —not to talk about a project, but her personal life. We find it hard to care about either. Now she’s back for another round through the publicity cycle, as if she might have something new or interesting to share with us. Sorry, Jessica, you don’t. You’re like that sweater we once bought on sale hoping that we would one day fit into it, but we suddenly realized that we will never wear, no matter how hard we try. You won’t ever fit us and it’s better that we donate you to charity and clear you out of the closet. Because we only have room for so much, and newer, prettier things have come along that we like. Yes, Jessica we’re getting rid of you. And since we barely even wanted you in the first place, please do us the courtesy of staying away. [ Image via Getty ]

Jessica Simpson Gets Facial, Needs Life

The Price of Beauty? Something like that. Jessica Simpson posted a bizarre photo of herself wearing a thick face mask on Twitter Saturday morning. Some people need their accounts revoked. We propose nominating one each month, and calling it the Tila Tequila Award (she’s in her own league). “The Price Of Beauty :)” Jessica Simpson Twittered, referring to her globe-trotting VH1 show, which premieres on March 15. Yes, it is a real show. “Thanks La Mer for the upper and lower zone radiant mask,” she added, referring to the pricey Creme De La Mer Radiant Facial, which costs $320. Yes, she paid $320 to look like this. You sure you want to collaborate on this show, Billy Corgan ? Your alt-rock reputation is being diminished here … Yikes . Filming the show “changed me completely,” she said . “I haven’t always had an inner confidence and I haven’t always looked at my reflection and loved it.” Okay, having better self-esteem is always a good thing. We just don’t need to see the progress every minute of every day. But carry on Jessica. Carry on.

Billy Corgan Explains Relationship With Jessica Simpson

Smashing Pumpkins frontman doesn’t say whether he’s dating Simpson, but they collaborated on TV-show theme song. By Jocelyn Vena Smashing Pumpkin’s Billy Corgan Photo: MTV News Recently, tabloids and gossip blogs have been speculating on whether Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and pop star Jessica Simpson are an item. The two were spotted in December, and last month of the pair working together in the studio. On Thursday, Corgan opened up to The Chicago Tribune about the reason behind the pairing: Simpson apparently wanted the alt-rock titan to help her write the theme song for “The Price of Beauty,” her forthcoming VH1 show about cultural ideas of attractiveness. “She asked me to help her out on the theme song for her new TV show,” Corgan said. “[The show] has an interesting concept. She goes around the world to show how different people perceive beauty. In some cultures, bigger is better. In some, smaller is better. It’s interesting.” Simpson has dabbled in both the pop and country worlds musically, but it seems that Corgan has been helping her explore her inner rock god. “I ended up writing part of [the theme song],” he told the paper. “It has a little bit of an alternative-rock edge, but it’s still very poppy.” While Corgan was clear about his musical collaborations with Simpson, he was vague about his possible romantic involvement with the pop singer. But he was forthcoming on what it was like to be a focus point of tabloid culture: “The stuff that I’ve seen doesn’t have any bearing to the reality that I’m in,” he said. “It’s like being in a cartoon. It has nothing to do with what’s really going on or how I feel.” Corgan is currently working on the Pumpkins’ Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, a planned 44-track collection he’s gradually releasing over the course of three years via free download from his Web site. Nick Bollea Settles Civil Suit with Family of Injured BFF

Nick Bollea may always have a guilty conscious over what transpired in a car more than two years ago, but he’s now out of the legal woods with the family of John Graziano. In 2007, Graziano was riding shotgun in Hogan’s Toyota Supra when a car accident caused him “to lose a portion of his brain, to be confined to a wheelchair and to be in a minimally conscious state requiring full time care,” according to court documents filed by Graziano’s relatives in a civil suit. The son of Hulk Hogan served five months in prison for the crash, following a plea of no contest to charges of felony reckless driving. Earlier this week, meanwhile, a settlement was reached in the civil case. Terms were undisclosed. “We reached a settlement that was agreeable to all parties,” Kim Kohn, the Graziano family attorney, told E! News. “We are very happy because our goal all along was to ensure that John was provided with the appropriate care for the rest of his life. And the settlement will do that.” Graziano was released from a Florida hospital in September.

Billy Corgan Addresses Jessica Simpson Relationship

Billy Corgan has commented on his relationship with Jessica Simpson for the first time … and it appears as if that relationship is mostly, if not entirely musical. “She asked me to help her out on the theme song for her new show [VH1’s The Price of Beauty ],” the Smashing Pumpkins frontman told the Chicago Tribune . “She goes around the world to show how different people perceive beauty. In some cultures, bigger is better. In some, smaller is better. It’s very interesting.” Corgan says that he ended up writing part of the theme song, which he describes as having “a little bit of an alternative rock edge, but it’s still very pop-y.” The odd couple had fans scratching their heads last December after they were first spotted together in New York City. Rumors of a romance soon heated up. Weirdest non-couple ever! [Photos: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com] From what we’ve read and heard, there were feelings from both sides, although the extent to which Billy Corgan and Jessica Simpson were romantic is unclear. And as far as celebrity gossip reports are concerned, he could not care less. “The stuff I’ve seen doesn’t have any bearing to the reality that I’m in,” he says. “It’s like living a cartoon. It has nothing to do with what’s really going on.” A bit coy, but definitely honest. Which is about what you would expect. Jessica Simpson aside, what’s left for a ’90s rock god to do in his career? “I just signed a deal to write my memoir ,” he said. “Next year. It’s a memoir about life from a spiritual perspective – not from a media or celeb perspective.”
