‘We Found Love’ singer will be the musical guest on the May 5 episode, hosted by Eli Manning. By John Mitchell Rihanna Photo: Getty Images Rihanna will hit the “Saturday Night Live” stage for the third time when she performs on the legendary sketch comedy show on May 5. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning will host. The pop star has a long history with the show and has always been a standout guest. While she always nails it on stage for her musical performance, Rihanna also tends to pop up throughout the show to flex her comedy muscles in sketches and, most notably, in rumored-to-be-departing Andy Samberg’s buzzed-about digital shorts. Her first “Shy Ronnie” short landed an Emmy nomination and she reprised the role for another digital short over Halloween weekend in 2010, playing Clyde to Shy Ronnie’s Bonnie as the unlikely couple holds up a bank and Ronnie’s bashful nature causes their plan to go array. For all intents and purposes, Rihanna’s appearance is to promote both her album Talk That Talk and her film debut in the upcoming “Battleship,” but for those still keeping an eye on the happenings of Ri Ri and ex Chris Brown, it’s worth noting that May 5 is also Brown’s birthday, so get ready for plenty of “will Chris Brown show up for a surprise appearance” speculation. The gig will be Manning’s first time hosting, though he made a brief cameo when his brother, Peyton, hosted in 2007. Are you excited for Rihanna’s “SNL” return? The Good Girl Gone Bad regularly hits Twitter to hash it out over everything from her taste in ink to her take on fellow R&B divas . But the one subject she’d kept off her tongue was ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. So the Bajan beauty’s decision this year to very publicly reconcile with Brown, who served probation for assaulting her in 2009, by teaming up with him in February on a pair of remixes was widely met with shock and, in many circles, outrage. In the new issue of Elle, however, the blond cover girl tells the magazine she understands her decision is a hard pill for some to swallow. “The bottom line is that everyone thinks differently. It’s very hard for me to accept, but I get it,” she says. “People end up wasting their time on the blogs or whatever, ranting away, and that’s all right. Because tomorrow I’m still going to be the same person. I’m still going to do what I want to do.” Rather than view the violent end of her relationship with Brown as a brutal low to be endured as a victim, the superstar says the fallout from the headline-making assault gave her courage. “It gave me guns,” she says. “I was like, well, f—. [The public knows] more about me than I want them to know. It’s embarrassing. But that was my opening. That was my liberation … Now you know that, so you can say what you want about it. I don’t have anything to hide.” In the wake of her provocative “Birthday Cake” remix with Brown, the 24-year-old was rumored to have reunited with the “Deuces” singer both in and out of the studio. But Rih says in the May issue (out April 17) that she’s focused on changing her single status to “in a relationship,” stressing over the pervasive man shortage and her busy schedule. “I feel like it’s hard for everybody ! Following their recent remix releases featuring one and other (Chris Brown on Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake” and Rihanna on Brown’s “Turn Up the Music”), rumors are going around that Chris Brown and Rihanna are reuniting. While they’ve yet to make a public appearance together, word is they might make their first appearance on the American Idol stage. An Idol insider told E!, “They want Chris and Rihanna to reunite on the show.” If they do duet, it will likely be on Breezy’s “Turn Up the Music” remix, which is far less raunchy than Rihanna’s new jam. The insider said the idea is still in its early stages.

Cissy Houston and I have been longtime friends for almost 50 years. I have four invitations and parking passes that were sent to me for the funeral. Extra TV, the New York Post and Newsday (New York) are more interested in sensationalism and negative speculations than the truth. People are getting their information from the wrong source. The intelligent and the thoughtful thing to do would be to respect and have some sensitivity to the moment. If you don’t know how, at least try. Cissy does not need ridiculous speculation and neither do I—particularly at this time. Also, with respect to the Today Show, my entire statement was pre-taped.
