Keyaira also pointed out something we TOO have noticed, that certain celebs won’t repost interviews from black media. “No matter how good the interview was, they wouldn’t share it, they wouldn’t post it,” said Keyaira. “I just started thinking about how the black press has played such a huge role in our ability to be seen and be visible and that support isn’t bounced back to our site.” It’s really a crying shame that in 2019 black reporters have to beg for inclusivity, we applaud Keyaira for being at the forefront of the fight. We’ve been reporting on the police shooting death of Willie McCoy since February when Vallejo, California police found him asleep in a Taco Bell drive-thru…then killed him. According to USAToday , Willie’s family is pushing back against an janky-a$$ “independent report” that the cops drummed up in an attempt to absolve themselves of any trigger-happy wrongdoing. The report released this week found that six officers fired 55 times at 20-year-old Willie McCoy in the span of 3.5 seconds shortly after he woke up from sleeping in his car in the drive-thru lane of a Taco Bell restaurant. Attorney John Burris told USA TODAY he believed the report was irrelevant, particularly since the hired expert also deemed police had probable cause in the fatal 2018 shooting of Stephon Clark. Let that sink in. The cops went and got the SAME GUY, David Blake, who said the Stephon Clark shooting was all-to-the-good. “Officers are not required to wait until a weapon is pointed at them to take the necessary steps to save their own lives,” Blake wrote in the report, adding that their actions were “reasonable based upon my training and experience as a range instructor as well as through applied human factors psychology.” This is the system that Black and brown people are up against in America. As previously reported rumors swirled that Porsha called off her engagement to Dennis McKinley after she unfollowed (and refollowed) him on Instagram sparking claims by bloggers that he cheated. Now Porsha’s speaking out for the first time on her relationship since the speculation started and explaining why she took so long to address the rumors. “I’m pretty much doing everything in my own time. Not that there’s anything I’m trying to hide or run away from, but if you love someone and you make a mistake or he makes a mistake or whatever’s going on, you gotta make sure that y’all are good at the end of the day,” said Williams during the American Black Film Festival in Miami as reported by ESSENCE. “I am on a reality television show and I do pride myself on being transparent on the show,” Williams continued, “but at the same time I’m human and when you’re talking about family, something that you want for a lifetime, you have to protect it.” “Mistakes”, huh??? She also added that despite the rumors, she’ll “absolutely love Dennis forever” and she still thanks God for the blessing she claimed. If you can remember, Porsha said during the RHOA season 10 reunion that she’d soon be married and pregnant. “What I will always do is make sure I protect family,” she said. “He will always be my daughter’s father and I will absolutely love him forever. We absolutely go through our ups and downs together. And I still thank God for the blessing I claimed a year ago.” She added, “There are still be things in any of us that aren’t perfect, that we have to deal with as a family. Set To Star In Film About Flint Water Crisis According to Deadline , T.I. has just signed on to star in the Will Smith-produced film depicting the tragedy that was the Flint, Michigan water crisis. Flint will be produced by Overbook Entertainment and will reportedly follow the story of a spiritually reformed ex-convict who finds himself in the midst of a murder mystery while his hometown of Flint deals with the consequences of the water crisis. Executive producers for the film include late director John Singleton , Caleeb Pinkett and James Lassiter from Overbook, T.I., and Brian Sher from Grand Hustle Films. T.I. is no stranger to the big screen. Having flexed his acting chops in a bunch of films over the last few years, this is set to show the legendary rapper’s acting range by tackling the serious role.
Source: krisanapong detraphiphat / Getty Mississippi Restaurant Is Facing Backlash For One Employee’s Racism One employee working the drive-thru window at a restaurant in Mississippi ended up being fired on Monday after printing a derogatory name on a Black customer’s receipt. According to Alexia Washington, she and a friend visited Who Dat’s on Friday night and placed a meal order, but once they saw what was on the receipt, they were disgusted. “Something told me to look at my receipt,” Washington said, according to WMC Action News . Printed at the top of the receipt were the words “Black b**ches in silver car.” She said she immediately reported the inappropriate text to the manager at Who Dat’s, who made the employee apologize–But of course, she was still disturbed by the worker’s hateful message, which is why she decided to post a picture of it on her Facebook page. “My car isn’t silver, for one,” Washington wrote in the now-deleted post. “For two, I wasn’t rude. I didn’t have any type of hostility. He didn’t have any hostility with me.” She went on to explain her decision to share the message on social media, saying she “wasn’t going to say anything and [was going to] give them the opportunity to do right, but nothing has been done,” according to the Clarion Ledger . Washington claims she had requested that the employee who printed the slur on the receipt be fired, as she felt “racially ridiculed and demeaned as a African American Female.” When her messages to the restaurant’s higher-ups seemed to be ignored, that is when she decided to go public. “I seek justice for this hate crime and I will no longer remain silent,” she wrote on Facebook. “I’ve lived in Oxford for 5 years and I’m still having to deal with this type of ignorance. I’m not a rude or hateful person. I was not rude when I was at this establishment and was greeted with this kind of service. I will not stand for it.” Luckily for Washington, her decision to go public with the whole scenario paid off, as Who Dat’s posted a reply to the customer’s post, assuring her that the employee had indeed been fired. The restaurant’s owner, Wylie Coleman, even met with with Washington face to face after that. In a lengthy note posted to the restaurant’s Facebook, Coleman wrote that he sat down with Washington for an hour and a half on Tuesday “in shock and remorse” to discuss “a broad range of issues and goals in our lives as we work through the summer.” He said he and Washington “have so much common ground.” Coleman called the racist receipt “no joke” and “a vivid insult describing oppression which stabs four-five immediate generations.” He said he couldn’t explain the employee’s action and that it “did not represent us as a business or [personally].” He also declared that the decision to terminate and ban the employee was a joint one made with Washington, as it would be “the only way to move forward.” He added, “From the bottom of my heart I would like to apologize to the young ladies that were attacked by this injustice. We have a lot of work to do as humans and representative[s] of the community.”
