WENN.com   Issa Rae Speaks On The Next Season Of Insecure The upcoming season of HBO’s Insecure will be on our television screens in just a couple months, and luckily for us, creator and star Issa Rae is giving us some inside scoop as to what fans can expect from the series in the coming episodes. Rae spoke with  The Hollywood Reporter   about her popular show, and how difficult it is to be both the star and the driving force of the production. She went in on that dynamic explaining: “As a creator, you think you’re just going to create, but there are so many moving parts and so many business aspects. So having to be business-minded while trying to be creative and not care what is going to sell is a lot. Sometimes I want to be in actor mode, not producer mode, or vice versa.” The Insecure star then goes on to talk about what themes are going to make their way into season 3 of the series, highlighting masculinity and adulthood. Rae explained, “I love Black masculinity as it relates to Black women,” she said. “I think that’s something interesting that we haven’t gotten a chance to explore yet — and specifically toxic male Black masculinity as it relates to black women. I’m trying to find a way to explore that and get a rounded storyline that isn’t preachy.” She continued on saying, “This season is about adulting in a new way. I think we’ve watched our characters really fumble and f–k up — and in some ways in your 20s you are allowed that — but this season  is about  not acting like you’re naive anymore or that you don’t know better. So it is about, what does it look like to know better and to do better?” The characters on Insecure could definitely use a lot of knowing and doing better, so this will be an interesting change to the show. We’ll see just how much growing up they’ve done when the series returns on August 12.
