Will You Be Watching? New Doc “Amazing Grace” Shows Aretha Franklin In New Light (Exclusive)

Source: Courtesy of NEON / Courtesy of NEON New Film “Amazing Grace” Charts Aretha Franklin’s Live Recording Of Gospel Album A new documentary about Aretha Franklin promises to show the Queen of Soul in a way many fans have never seen her. Gone are the fur coats, gowns and jewelry that typified the gospel and soul singer’s larger than life persona in recent years for the new film “Amazing Grace.” Instead, the then afro-sporting 29-year-old is stripped back and lets her voice do most of the talking. “This Aretha Franklin is a little bit different,” “Amazing Grace” producer Tirrell Whitley told BOSSIP. “She was just coming out of the 60s Black Power Movement, she’s wearing her afro….The experience of Aretha Franklin at the age of 29 at the peak of her power.” Franklin recorded the live performance in 1972 over two nights in a South Central L.A. church in front of an audience that included her father the Rev. C.L. Franklin, gospel greats Clara Ward and Mother Ward, the Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts. Because the footage was shot out of sync, it sat in a vault for almost 40 years before a film company was able to sync the footage with the audio. Although the movie does have imperfections like out of focus shots, Whitley said that it was Franklin who pulls everything together. “The great thing is that the film had excellence in the making and her voice carries it through,” he said, adding that Franklin gave the film her blessing before she passed away last year aged 76. Whitley said the film is ideal for sororities, churches and other groups to screen. “This film takes you to church and it ministers to you in a unique way,” he said. “Amazing Grace” is now in theaters nationwide.

Teen Producer Sues French Montana For Stealing Beat For “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’” (Exclusive)

Source: Allen Berezovsky / Getty Producer Said French Montana Coopted His Beat For Rapper’s Hit Song An Illinois producer claims that French Montana straight up stole his beat and used it for the song “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’” when he was still a teenager. Eddie Lee Richardson aka “Hotwire The Producer,” sued French Montana for copyright infringement and more earlier this month, alleging the rapper used his work without permission or payment. Richardson said back in 2012 when he was just 16, he made a song called “Hood Pushin’ Weight,” and registered the song with the U.S. Copyright Office. He said he uploaded the song to site SoundClick, a music sharing website and distribution platform. The plaintiff said French then took the song from the site, and the following year, released “Ain’t Worried About Nothin.’” He said the songs were identical, save for the lyrics and vocals. The producer believes French banked more than $5 million from the song, and he wants money damages that equal the amount of profit grossed from the single. It’s not the first time that French Montana has been in hot water over accusations that he stole music. We exclusively revealed that another producer sued him for the very same thing. In 2017 Morocco-born producer Assil Youssef sued him for using his beat for “Lockjaw” (featuring Kodak Black) without his permission. That case was later dismissed.

DNA Delusion: Ancestry.com Apologizes For Ridiculously Romanticized Slavery Ad After Twitter Outs Their Ahistorical BS

Source: Mario Tama / Getty Nice try! Ancestry.com Apologizes For A Love Ad Involving A White Man And Black Slave Smh. Ancestry.com tried to sugar coat, cherry-on-top slavery, and it didn’t go well at all with the people. According to The Atlanta Journal Constitution , the genealogy database tried to promote their services with a commercial set in 1800s America. In the clip, a White man is depicted asking a Black woman named Abigail to “escape to the north” with him. “Will you leave with me?” the man asks, with a ring in his hand. Then, the ad ends with an on-screen “marriage certificate,” suggesting that the man and woman got married in Canada in 1857. ooooh my god LMAOOO who approved this ancestry commercial??? pic.twitter.com/Isy0k4HTMA — manny (@mannyfidel) April 18, 2019   The clip made rounds on social media this week and automatically, folks became outraged over the clip’s romanticization of slavery. A PhD candidate at Harvard, Clint Smith, tweeted: “ancestry dot com: how can we overly romanticize & create an irresponsible, ahistorical depiction of the relationship between white men & black women during the period of chattel slavery that completely disregards its power dynamics & the trauma of sexual exploitation?” nobody: ancestry dot com: how can we overly romanticize & create an irresponsible, ahistorical depiction of the relationship between white men & black women during the period of chattel slavery that completely disregards its power dynamics & the trauma of sexual exploitation? https://t.co/s5BqnoSg9x — Clint Smith (@ClintSmithIII) April 18, 2019   Activist and organizer Brittany Packnett also tweeted: “I used this service a few years ago. And when I realized I was more than 10% European, I wept. Not from shame for who I am, but from anger from the trauma of how it may have come to be. This commercial spits on the trauma in our veins and the fight of our ancestors, @ ancestry “ I used this service a few years ago. And when I realized I was more than 10% European, I wept. Not from shame for who I am, but from anger from the trauma of how it may have come to be. This commercial spits on the trauma in our veins and the fight of our ancestors, @ancestry https://t.co/KBpqB6XPZg — Brittany Packnett (@MsPackyetti) April 18, 2019   Other historians, reporters, and academics also hopped on social media to call out the company’s “reprehensible” commercial. The site eventually made a public apology on Thursday as backlash peaked: “Ancestry is committed to telling important stories from history,” spokeswoman Gina Spatafore said in a statement. “This ad was intended to represent one of those stories. We very much appreciate the feedback we have received and apologize for any offense that the ad may have caused.” The original video, which was first posted on YouTube has since been removed. The history of Black women facing sexual violence from White men during slavery isn’t some baseless tale either. It’s supported by DNA evidence, according to The New York Times . In a study they covered in 2016, a group of geneticists found in the DNA of 3,726 living African-Americans “marks of slavery’s cruelties, including further evidence that white slave owners routinely fathered children with women held as slaves.” When they examined proportions of European DNA in the population, the scientists also realized that X chromosomes, which are inherited in higher percentages from women, had greater African ancestry than other chromosomes, suggesting that slaveowners were “raping the women they held captive.” So yeah, you can squash the interracial love stories with slaves Ancestry.com. Hit the flip for more commentary on the company’s misstep.

Wait WHAT? Study Claims DOGS Are Cleaner Than Our Big Di** Energy, Panty-Melting Bearded Baes……

Source: DjelicS / Getty Study Claims Bearded Men Have More Germs Than Dogs A new study is shaking up our irrational love for FINE AZZ bearded men after it found that all that extra hair has been equaling up to bad hygiene. The viral study claims beard gang has MORE GERMS than DOG’s fur. It can’t be… HuffPost reports: Researchers at the Hirslanden Clinic near Zurich, Switzerland, wanted to determine whether evaluating humans and dogs in the same MRI scanner would be hygienic. They did so by comparing the bacterial load in colony-forming units (CFU) of human-pathogenic microorganisms in specimens taken from 18 bearded men and 30 furry dogs. The researchers also compared the extent of bacterial contamination of an MRI scanner used by both dogs and humans with two other MRI scanners used exclusively by humans. Turns out all the bearded bros showed high microbial counts, compared with only 23 out of 30 dogs. “On the basis of these findings, dogs can be considered as clean, compared with bearded men,” study author Andreas Gutzeit told the BBC . Founder of the Beard Liberation Front, Keith Flett, is standing up for our bearded baes , however, telling the Daily Mail in a rebuttal… “I think it’s possible to find all sorts of unpleasant things if you took swabs from people’s hair and hands and then tested them. I don’t believe that beards in themselves are unhygienic. “There seems to be a constant stream of negative stories about beards that suggest it’s more about pogonophobia than anything else.” Welp, that’s that on that. Where do you stand?
