Source: Sarah Morris / Getty Nipsey Hussle’s Memorial Service Thursday was an incredibly emotional day as BET and Tidal aired Nipsey Hussle’s entire memorial in Staples Center with thousands in attendance and millions watching across the world. This was a monumental home going for someone who deserved all of the praise and love he got. The memorial had so many moments of love and appreciation that it was hard to keep up. Also, after the ceremony, a procession rolled through the streets of L.A. that only kept the marathon going. We know that yesterday may have been too heavy for some people so we have the highlights for you to catch up on your own pace. This was all such a beautiful moment turning tragedy to inspiration. Source: August Alsina Jada Pinkett / Getty August Alsina Denies That “Nunya” Was About Jada Pinkett-Smith August Alsina recently caught backlash over a song her released that many thought was about a certain actress. As previously reported it reaaaaaally seemed like August was speaking on an alleged affair with Jada Pinkett Smith. In the video for the song about an affair with a married woman, August texts a woman named a “Koren” which is Jada’s middle name. In the text, it even had a GIF of Jada. According to August, however, that’s all just a coincidence and he’d like to clear it up. The singer says that the song’s NOT about Jada and he and Will Smith’s wife “the goddess” have spoken “every single day” since it was released. “Been quiet & still amongst all the noise last week, more so out of respect for Nip??” wrote August on Instagram. “But I’ve been paying attention to all the theories of conspiracy ???in regard to “NunYa” Remix.. So Here’s To Clarity, The Song is not about Jada. It’s simply JUST A SONG , & a free artistic expression of a made up narrative already put in place by its ORIGINAL format. Source: Press/Splash News/ SplasheNews.com / Splash News President Obama Writes Tribute Letter To Nipsey Hussle Neighborhood Nip just got remembered in an epic way. A letter from President Barack Obama was read by Karen Civil at Nipsey Hussle’s funeral. In it, the President said while he’d never met Nipsey he was familiar with him because of Sasha and Malia. He also praised the late rapper for investing in his Crenshaw neighborhood and leaving a legacy. “I’d never met Nipsey Hussle, but I’d heard some of his music through my daughters, and after his passing, I had the chance to learn more about his transformation and his community work,” Obama begins in the letter. “While most folks look at the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up and see only gangs, bullets, and despair, Nipsey saw potential,” he continued. “He saw hope. He saw a community that, even through its flaws, taught him to always keep going.” “His choice to invest in that community rather than ignore it — to build a skills training center, and a co-working space in Crenshaw; to lift up the Eritrean-American community; to set an example for young people to follow — is a legacy worthy of celebration,” Obama wrote. “I hope his memory inspires more good work in Crenshaw and communities like it,” he added. She’s also been trying to insert some sort of criminal justice reform into her public persona, meeting with y’all wack a$$ president about granting asylum to unjustly imprisoned people in America. Now, she’s taking things a step further. In an interview with Vogue , she revealed that she’s taking the California bar in 2022: “I had to think long and hard about this,” she says, gleefully devouring chile con queso with chips now that her Vogue shoot is over. What inspired her to embark on something so overwhelmingly difficult and time-consuming—even as she also runs a multimillion-dollar beauty enterprise—was the combination of “seeing a really good result” with Alice Marie Johnson and feeling out of her depth. “The White House called me to advise to help change the system of clemency,” she says, “and I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, Oh, s***. Well, actually you don’t need to go to law school in California to take the bar, though it is really hard. The apprenticeship program she’s in is pretty rigorous and some people have pulled it off.
