Oprah Talks “Leaving Neverland” Hateration, Chucking The Deuces To “60 Minutes” And Helping Bestie Gayle Get Her Shmoney Honey!

Source: Ruven Afanador / The Hollywood Reporter / Ruven Afanador / The Hollywood Reporter Oprah Winfrey Talks About Backlash Over “Leaving Neverland” And Leaving Acting The Queen of Media Oprah Winfrey is the subject of an in-depth interview for the cover of The Hollywood Reporter’s first-ever Empowerment in Entertainment issue. Winfrey will receive the first-ever Empowerment Award at the accompanying Empowerment in Entertainment gala Tuesday (4/30) afternoon in Los Angeles. We absolutely LOVED this one — especially some gems she dropped about hateration, quitting acting AND “60 Minutes” and the current political climate. Check out some key excerpts via THR below: On advice she gave Gayle King on renewing her CBS News contract: I said, “Get what you want. Get exactly what you want because now’s the time. And if you don’t get what you want, then make the next right move.” Even without me, she was going to do that. But that was my advice, and I actually called up her lawyer, Allen Grubman, and I said, “Allen, she should get what she wants.” And Allen goes, “What the F do you think I’m doing here? I said the same thing to her!” The negotiation was already happening before her R. Kelly interview. On her reaction to the R. Kelly interview: I sent her a text saying, “Jesus looooves you.” But [the R. Kelly interview] could not have been better if I had done that myself. I think every interviewer thinks, “What would you have done in that moment?” And what she did was absolute perfection. On why she recently left 60 Minutes: I’ve removed myself from that. It was not the best format for me … How should I say this? Never a good thing when I have to practice saying my name and have to be told that I have too much emotion in my name…. I think I did seven takes on just my name because it was ‘too emotional.’ I go, ‘Is the too much emotion in the Oprah part or the Winfrey part?’ I was working on pulling myself down and flattening out my personality — which, for me, is actually not such a good thing. We love it. You’ve got to do what feels good and right for you and Oprah sends such a strong message by speaking openly about her decision to leave “60 Minutes” — of course she will have a great platform in the work she’s doing with Apple — so we’ll still get plenty of her journalistic side. Hit the flip for more great quotes.

A Lil Positivity: Oprah Donates $2 Million To Puerto Rico’s Hurricane Maria Relief Efforts

Source: Michael Short / Getty Oprah Is Donating $2 Million To Charities In Puerto Rico Oprah Winfrey is joining in on the efforts to help Puerto Rico in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The island has not yet fully recovered from the 2017 storm, which caused 3,000 deaths and billions of dollars in damage. The people of Puerto Rico need all the help they can get, and because of that, Oprah is donating $2 million — $1 million to Hispanic Federation and another $1 million to the Flamboyan Arts Fund, according to reports from The Oprah Magazine. “I was so moved by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s commitment to bring ‘Hamilton’ to Puerto Rico and support the community that served him growing up that I wanted to join in the revitalization efforts of an island so rich in culture, beauty, and heritage,” the mogul said in a statement. “The needs of Puerto Rico and our fellow American citizens following the tragic hurricanes are still very real, and the work that has already been done by the Hispanic Federation, Flamboyan Arts Fund and other organizations on and off the island is long from over.” Winfrey and her best friend Gayle King traveled to Puerto Rico to watch a performance of Hamilton earlier this year. Since the destruction of the hurricane, recovery and fundraising efforts have been coming steadily from a lot of stars, including Scarlett Johansson, Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez, and so many more. The people of Puerto Rico still need a lot of help, but Oprah’s recent donation will definitely be a huge step in the right direction.

You Damn Right: Patricia Okoumou Won’t Spend Time In Prison For Becoming “The Statue Of Liberty Climber”

Source: Pacific Press / Getty Statue Of Liberty Climber Patricia Okoumou Will Not Serve Prison Time Patricia Okoumou , the woman who climbed the Statue Of Liberty to protest Donald Trump’s ignorant a$$ immigration policy last July 4, will not spend any time in jail so sayeth a Manhattan federal judge this afternoon according to AMNY . U.S. Magistrate Gabriel Gorenstein let Okoumou slide on jail time and opted instead to give her 200 hours of community service and 5 years of probation. Okoumou was facing 18 months in prison if she was found guilty but she didn’t let her conviction for trespass, disorderly conduct and interfering with governmental administration stop her from protesting against injustice. Following that arrest, Patricia participated in a protest climb of the Eiffel Tower and a climb of a headquarters that housed detained kids. Instead of revoking her bail for the Austin incident, the judge showed leniency and remanded her to home detention with an ankle monitor. Free the good sis!
