Hip Hop’s Helpers: Big Boi Is Taking Hospice Patients In His Celebrity Trailers To See ‘Black Panther’

Marcus Ingram/Getty Images Big Boi Is Helping Hospice Patients See Black Panther Big Boi says that he hopes to “bring a little light” to a group of Atlanta hospice patients by taking them to see Black Panther on Friday. The Atlanta legend has rented a theater at Stonecrest 16 in Lithonia and will transport about 30 patients at Loving Arms Hospice to watch the film. He said about his good deed, “I’ve had my father and both my grandmothers go through hospice and I’d want to take them to places they couldn’t go. This might be the last movie they get to see. It’s like a little field trip.” Of course, medical staff will accompany the group, who are set to travel to the theater in one of Big Boi’s Celebrity Trailers, his company that supplies luxury trailers to movie sets–he wants the Loving Arms patients to experience the ride in one of the “super plush” vehicles. Like most of us, Big Boi has already seen Black Panther, but he’s looking forward to watching it again. He expressed his love of the movie saying, “The movie is incredible. Just the different layers – the storytelling, the writing, and of course the action. I love seeing the High Museum in there. ATL is thriving, man.” Other celebrities who have bought out theaters in their community for Black Panther viewings include Kendrick Lamar’s label TDE, Desus & Mero, Serena Williams , Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, and more. Source: iOne Digital / iOne Digital The Gateway to Freedom Source: Raymond Boyd / Getty Detroit has played a major role in the history of African Americans. As one of the major stops on the Underground Railroad, Detroit became a stepping stone for many. The Gateway to Freedom International Memorial to the Underground Railroad is located in Detroit’s Hart Plaza. The monument was sculpted by Edward Dwight and dedicated on October 20, 2001. The monument faces the Detroit River and Canada. Dwight also created a companion to this piece named the Tower of Freedom, which sits in the Civic Esplande in Windsor, Ontario. Both memorials honor the tenacity and fight of African Americans to gain their independence. There are not many websites for information on this historical memorial. However, taking a trip down to Hart Plaza can give you a greater understanding of its history and significance.

Read the rest here:

Source: Gabe Ginsberg / Getty 2018 is off to a heartbreaking start for the family and friends of former NBA player Rasual Butler and his wife, singer Leah LaBelle, after the couple were both killed in a horrific car crash that happened earlier this week. Ex-NBA Player Rasual Butler and Wife Dead In Car Crash https://t.co/1aysk6fABj — TMZ (@TMZ) February 1, 2018 As TMZ reports, during the early morning hours of January 31, Rasual Butler and wife Leah LaBelle were both pronounced dead after being involved in a deadly single car crash in California. Butler and LaBelle are survived by their families, including his daughter Raven Butler from a previous relationship. Via TMZ: Ex-NBA player Rasual Butler and his wife — a singer who appeared on “American Idol” — were both killed in a single car crash in Studio City, CA early Wednesday morning, TMZ Sports has learned. 38-year-old Butler — who was drafted by the Miami Heat in 2002 — lost control of his Range Rover around 2 AM, struck a parking meter and slammed into a wall. The car flipped. Officers believe the car was speeding before it lost control.  Butler had a long NBA career after an impressive run at La Salle — where he was a 2-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 Player. He’s a member of the La Salle Hall of Athletics. He went on to play in the NBA until 2016 — with stints on the Hornets, Clippers, Bulls, Raptors, Pacers, Wizards and Spurs. Rasual most recently played in Ice Cube’s BIG3 league.  Butler’s wife Leah LaBelle, 31, was an R&B singer who was signed to Epic Records. She placed 12th on the 3rd Season of “American Idol” back in 2004.  Fellow NBA and entertainment industry stars expressed their condolences and memories of the young couple, including Kobe Bryant, Pharrell Williams, Shaquille O’Neal, Allen Iverson, Nia Long, Bryan Michael Cox and Ray Allen. We at HB offer our sincerest condolences to Rasual and Leah’s friends and family during this difficult time.   Check out today’s Top Stories here: #JusticeForLuLu: Prank Victim Speaks Out On Humiliating Wig Snatch This Air Force Sergeant Is Under Fire For Her Racist Viral Rant Saying All ‘Black Female’ Subordinates Have Attitudes
