‘Def Comedy Jam’ 25th Anniversary Special Is Coming To Netflix This Fall

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic Netflix Announces Upcoming ‘Def Comedy Jam’ Special Though there was talk a couple years ago that HBO and Russell Simmons signed a deal that would include a 25th anniversary special for  Def Comedy Jam , it appears another company got ahold of the opportunity. Netflix announced on Thursday morning that they would be airing a  Def Comedy Jam  25th anniversary special this fall. The line-up for the special is set to feature Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, Bill Bellamy, Cedric the Entertainer, Mike Epps, and a whole lot more. HBO premiered  Def Comedy Jam in 1992. Hosted by Martin Lawrence, the series introduced a bunch of Black comedians to a mainstream audience, like Martin Lawrence, Chris Tucker, Dave Chappelle, and Bernie Mac. Netflix said they would be bringing new stand-up specials every week to their streaming service for the rest of 2017, and this year has seen two new specials from Dave Chappelle, Tracy Morgan, and also has plans for two new specials from Chris Rock.

Dr. Altha Stewart Named First Black President Of American Psychiatric Association Dr. Altha Stewart has been named the FIRST African-American president of the American Psychiatric Association . The doctor will lead the 37,000-member association, a first in the organization’s 173-year-old history according to Memphis Business Journal : Stewart will be the fourth consecutive woman to lead the organization. She will begin her tenure as president-elect in May and become president in May 2018. “My role will be standing at the intersection of race and gender in a national organization,” Stewart said. “It’s a unique position. … It’s an honor. I’m humbled and I’m happy to serve.” Stewart is the chief of Social and Community Psychiatry at University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). She was among the first class of women to what is now Christian Brothers University. She graduated from Temple University Medical School and was a resident at Hahnemann University Hospital, both in Philadelphia. Congratulations to Dr. Altha Stewart on this tremendous achievement! #BlackExcellence

Little Caesars Founder Mike Ilitch Paid Rosa Parks’ Rent Learn how $5 pizza empire helped a Civil Rights icon… Little Caesar’s founder Mike Ilitch sadly passed away last week at the age of 87. The Detroit businessman was a well-known philanthropis t and championed many charities throughout his beloved city. Now, one story about the pizza founder’s generosity has made the news following his death reports Sports Business Weekly . Judge Damon Keith, a friend of Ilitch, shared a touching story of how the businessman came to rescue of Rosa Parks during a dark time in her life: “It’s for $2,000, dated November the first, 1994. It’s from Little Caesars Enterprises to Riverfront Apartments, and I know it was just one of many,” said Keith, 91, who has been a U.S. Court of Appeals judge in Detroit for the last 46 years. “It’s important that people know what Mr. Mike Ilitch did for Ms. Rosa Parks because it’s symbolic of what he has always done for the people of our city.” On Aug. 31, 1994, Parks, then 81, was robbed and assaulted in her home in central Detroit. Keith called real estate developer Alfred Taubman, the owner of Riverfront Apartments, about finding a safer home for Parks. Taubman pledged to find the best home available. Illitch paid Parks’ rent every month until she died in 2005. The generous businessman supported numerous charities and helped everyone he met. Rest in power to this amazing man, you have an eternal invitation to the cookout!

Jesus Take The Wheel: Violence Erupts In Milwaukee After Fatal Police Shooting

SMH… Milwaukee Protests Turn Violent Angry protestors recently went head to head with police after the shooting of a 23-year-old man. Milwaukee authorities report that protestors set fire to squad cars and threw bricks as they sought answers for the murder of a man by an unidentified officer. NBC News reports: Violence and protests erupted in Milwaukee overnight after a man was fatally shot by police during a foot chase. Police said the victim, 23, was armed with a handgun and shot dead by an officer after fleeing a traffic stop on Milwaukee’s north side Saturday afternoon. Hours later angry crowds took to the streets, smashing a police car and setting fire to another. One officer was injured by a flying brick; a gas station and auto-parts store were set alight. Police said gunshots were heard. waukee Mayor Tom Barrett pleaded for calm at an early morning news conference, asking residents to “do everything” to help restore order. “If you love your son, if you love your daughter, text them, call them, pull them by the ears and get ’em home,” he said. People are breaking into gas station after 23 year old male was shot and killed by #mpd officer.
