Weekend Forecast: We All Win When Black Swan, Phillip Morris Tag Team Ninjas

Welcome back to the latest edition of Movieline’s Weekend Forecat — kind of an abbreviated edition, in fact, seeing as not a single full-scale wide release opens today. The best we’ve got are a bunch of ninjas making their belated debut in 1,600 theaters, while two smaller films you’ve got the hots for tumble into limited release behind it. Let’s make some projections…

Darren Aronofsky on Black Swan, ‘Pulling’ Actors and Life Vs. Art

Say what you will about his provocative, polarizing films, but don’t think for a minute Darren Aronofsky ever takes the path of least resistance. The director’s latest, Black Swan , springs from a place from which few filmmakers emerge alive — the hyper-competitive world of ballet, where, upon earning the role of the Swan Queen in a new adaptation of Swan Lake , young prima ballerina Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman) commences down the road to paranoia, lust and madness.

Audrina Patridge Recalls Embarrassing Skip Day On ‘When I Was 17’

‘It was probably one of the last times I ever ditched,’ ‘Hills’ star says. By Jocelyn Vena Audrina Patridge Photo: MTV News Audrina Patridge always came off as one of the resident good girls during her time on “The Hills,” and as it turns out, when she was a teenager, she was pretty much a good girl too — except for that one time she tried to skip school. “One day, my friends and I decided to ditch school and go to the beach, and I wrote a fake note: ‘Please excuse Audrina Patridge. She wasn’t feeling well today. Any questions, call,’ ” Patridge said on the new episode of “When I Was 17” airing this weekend, which also features “America’s Next Top Model” judge Miss J and Cee Lo Green. “So I just ditched school and I went [to the beach], and our counselor at the time called my mom and asked where I was, and so she covered for me.” While it may have seemed nice for her mom to cover for her, it turns out there was a very memorable lesson to be learned. “She told them that I was really, really sick and that I was throwing up, and she did it to embarrass me, because when they called me into the office the next day, I had to sit there in front of all of them and tell them that I was throwing up and that I had diarrhea and I had to stick to her story,” the “Dancing With the Stars” alum recalled. “It was probably one of the last times I ever ditched — first and last.” Her pal Beau admitted that the punishment probably fit the crime. “Even though Audrina did good in school, she had her, like, adventurous side,” he explained. “Her mom covered for her, but she still got what was coming to her. It was probably pretty embarrassing for her.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Patridge, Miss J and Cee Lo — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. ‘Digital Deaths’ of Kim Kardashian and Others Greatly Exaggerated; AIDS Charity Not Raising Money

File this under: When good intentions go bad. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Ryan Seacrest pledged to stay off all social networking sites this week to support Worlds AIDS day, and claimed they wouldn’t return until $1 million had been raised for the AIDS charity Keep a Child Alive. Which is a great idea, until you realize that no one actually wants to hear from Kim Kardashian and Ryan Seacrest.

Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis Talk Starving, Bonding For ‘Black Swan’

‘Suddenly we were on set together in tutus, emaciated and tired,’ Portman recalls of commiserating with co-star. By Eric Ditzian Natalie Portman Photo: Michael Loccisano/ Getty Images Much has been made of the sweaty sex scene in “Black Swan” between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis , two longtime friends who had to strip down for some bumping-and-grinding in the name of art. But let’s be clear about one thing: It can hardly be said that the friends spent the entire shoot in lesbian-love mode (the aforementioned scene was filmed in just one day). Rather, Portman and Kunis spent the majority of the production engaging in bonding of another kind: commiserating about how freaking hungry they were, as both women had to shed weight to play world-class ballerinas. “Mila and I had had ‘sweatpants nights’ watching ‘Top Chef,’ and suddenly we were on set together in tutus, emaciated and tired,” Portman told MTV News at the “Black Swan” red-carpet premiere on Tuesday night. So much for the glamorous life of a Hollywood actress. The process of losing the weight, which included a restrictive diet and hard-core dance training, took months — both before and during the shoot. As Kunis put it, “It was months and months and I was always hungry.” But the friends got through it together, and afterward they gorged. “The second they were like, ‘You can eat now,’ I ate everything in two minutes,” Kunis said, adding that her first post-“Black Swan” meal took place at an airport food court. “Panda Express at JFK. I’m a classy broad.” As physically demanding as the movie was, Portman told us that it brought the two of them closer. “It’s interesting always to see someone working who you only know socially,” she said. “It’s great to see someone do so beautifully in a work context after you know they’re just a fun, cool person.” Will you see “Black Swan” when it opens? Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis Recall ‘Black Swan’ Sacrifices At Premiere

After months of starving herself for the ballet movie, where did Kunis splurge? ‘Panda Express at JFK! I’m a classy broad.’ By Eric Ditzian Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis at the New York premiere of “Black Swan” on Tuesday Photo: Michael N. Todaro/ FilmMagic There they were on Monday night — Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Darren Aronofsky — sweeping down the red carpet outside Wall Street’s Cipriani for the Gotham Independent Film Awards. And look, they came back again the next night, this time to a glittering red carpet outside the Ziegfeld Theatre in Midtown. Why? Because it’s awards season, and the trio’s film — the dark and trippy drama “Black Swan” — is a front-runner to nab all sorts of nominations and trophies in the weeks and months ahead. And so we found ourselves at the Ziegfeld with a distinct sense of d

Vincent Cassel on Black Swan, Movie Overkill and the Politics of Selling Out

One good, sprawling interview with an international cinema star deserves another, and so we return to Vincent Cassel. When the French actor spoke to Movieline over the summer about his two-part gangster epic Mesrine , he also commented a bit about a little “independent movie” he was doing with director Darren Aronofsky. Mere months later, Black Swan has captivated critics, festival audiences and not just a few Oscar voters ahead of this weekend’s theatrical opening.
