With all due respect to that Nassim Taleb dude who popularized the term “Black Swasn”, Black Swan events are both overrated and the term is sloppily bandied about by those who may not be putting the requisite thought into just how utilitarian the knowledge of Black Swans actually are. Since you can’t accurately predict, nor back test against, nor adequately hedge against such events, exactly what… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : zero hedge Discovery Date : 24/03/2011 18:39 Number of articles : 2
Director cites lengthy production schedule as reason for leaving Hugh Jackman-starring film. By Kara Warner Darren Aronofsky Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images The second “Wolverine” film is quickly becoming as unpredictable and complex as its titular character. It was reported Thursday (March 17) that Oscar-nominated director Darren Aronofsky will not be helming the pic after all. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aronofsky has dropped out due to the film’s lengthy production schedule overseas. “As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of ‘The Wolverine’ would keep me out of the country for almost a year,” Aronofsky said in a joint statement with Fox, the studio releasing the film. “I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again,” he said. Aronofsky or no, Fox said it supports the “Black Swan” director’s decision but still plans to move forward and make the film with Jackman firmly attached to those famous adamantium claws. “While we are of course disappointed that Darren can’t do ‘The Wolverine,’ we also understand and respect his reasons. Having done both ‘The Wrestler’ and ‘Black Swan’ with Darren, we know he is an extraordinary talent and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future. Hugh Jackman and Fox both remain fully committed to making ‘The Wolverine.’ We will regroup and move forward aggressively.” What do you think of Aronofsky’s decision? Tell us in the comments! It’s a celebrity fashion clash of cuties from the Academy Awards. Cuties may not even do these two justice, based on the dresses they donned Sunday night. Black Swan star Mila Kunis’ gown can best be described as head-snapping for reasons we don’t even need to get into here. But seriously, wow. Mandy Moore, meanwhile, was on hand to sing the nominated “I See the Light” from her hit animated film Tangled , and looked so beautiful it’s hard to believe this is Mandy Moore. No offense to Mandy Moore, it’s just … wow again. Who dressed best at the Oscars? Vote and decide:
And the Oscar goes to … The King’s Speech . And other films, of course, but it was a royal victory for the picture about King George VI, which won Best Picture, and Best Actor Colin Firth. Director Tom Hooper and Screenplay writer David Seidler also triumphed for the film. Natalie Portman, as the troubled dancer in Black Swan , won Best Actress. “This is insane,” she said in her acceptance speech. “I truly, sincerely wish the prize tonight was to work with my fellow nominees. I am in such awe of you.” The Fighter ‘s Melissa Leo and Christian Bale won Supporting Actress and Actor. The technical awards were monopolized by Inception and Alice in Wonderland . Backstage at the Spirit Awards Saturday afternoon, Darren Aronofsky was in a jaunty mood. And why not? With Black Swan ‘s two biggest Oscar rivals, The Social Network and The King’s Speech , absent from competition at the penultimate awards show of the year ( TSN excluded by budget, TKS relegated to the foreign film category), the night belonged to Aronofsky’s stylish psychological ballet thriller. So after Black Swan took home Best Cinematography (Matthew Libatique), Best Actress (Natalie Portman), Best Director, and Best Feature, Aronofsky took to the winners’ room to have some fun with the press.

Has awards season become a tad repetitive for your tastes? Sure, the recent surge by The King’s Speech over The Social Network is exciting, I suppose, but at this point how many awards can we see Natalie Portman and Colin Firth win against basically the same competition before we all collectively throw up our hands and say, “OK, we get it. Can we just move on to the Oscars now? Or at least try something different ?” Here’s an idea: What if every single awards ceremony were important?
Well, that was quick. Just one day after putting out a post looking for a middle-aged “recent Tea Party candidate and home schooler — a Sarah Palin type,” Glee seems to have found their gal — Kathy Griffin! This is going to be fun!
The rumors are true ! After much talk and speculation, it has been confirmed that Baz Luhrmann will be shooting his upcoming remake of The Great Gatsby in 3-D. After the Academy Awards next weekend, Natalie Portman needs a vacation. Girl has been working nonstop, and her upcoming break is well-deserved. This year alone Portman has starred in No Strings Attached and The Other Woman , done nonstop award shows and appearances for Black Swan and she’s got the whole pregnancy gig. Oh, and that Thor flick coming up. And NOW there’s her film Hesher , which will hopefully hit theaters and is already slated to play South-by-Southwest. She may wind up going Nina Sayers crazy if she don’t slow it down.
