Source: Radio One Staff / Radio One Houston Man Found At IHOP With Mother After Escaping From Jail A mother in Georgia helped her son escape jail this week, then took him to celebrate the feat with some pancakes. But unfortunately for the tag team, her son wasn’t out of jail for long. Soon enough the mother and son duo were captured at the most popular pancake place of them all, the International House Of Pancakes (IHOP) . The Heard County Sheriff’s Office told local TV station WSBTV that 27-year-old Joshua Gullat slipped out of the jail while mopping floors and cleaning bathrooms on Monday night at around 11:30 p.m. Gullat’s mother, 54-year-old Kathy Pence, was reportedly waiting in a Black Cadillac Escalade to whisk him away from the jail. Investigators reportedly tracked Pence’s cellphone—apparently after she had earlier received directions from her son, via a phone call, about where to pick him up at the jail—which led them to an IHOP in Coweta County, Georgia. Heard County Sgt. Dan Boswell told WSBTV, “He said they were sitting at the table eating. He was sitting with two of his kids at the table. His mom, him and two of his children.” According to authorities, it only took about two hours to recapture Gullat. “With the good work between our dispatchers and the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, this escape was resolved in a timely fashion,” Boswell said, according to the Newman Times-Herald. “We appreciate all their help.” Police said Gullat apologized for the escape but wouldn’t give up how he got to the restaurant alongside his mother. WGCL reported that Gullat had been serving a 24 to 36 month sentence on two charges of burglary, but of course, he’s now facing additional felony charges for the escape. His mother faces a felony charge as well for helping the escape.

A progressive organization wants to send a message to the Democratic Party and other liberal groups in the wake of last week’s midterm election victories: Place Black women in leadership positions. See Also: Blue Party: Say Hello To The Black Wave African-American women have been the backbone of the party and the progressive movement, yet Democrats have been selective in rallying around some Black women candidates while giving little support to others. To add insult to injury, Black women are all too often overlooked for leadership roles in the movement. Enter Yvette Simpson , who was named CEO of Democracy for America ( DFA ) on Wednesday and is poised to take the political action committee’s reigns on Jan. 1, when she will become the first woman to lead the organization. Simpson said she was on a mission to change the value that Democrats and progressives see in Black women. “My being in this role is a big deal,” Simpson told NewsOne on Wednesday. “For the first time the progressive movement is putting a Black woman at the helm of a traditionally white-led organization. I hope it sends a strong signal to the Democratic Party, the progressive movement and our nation. We know that our country is becoming more Black and Brown, and we need to have that representation.” Yvette Simpson takes helm of Democracy For America, Howard Dean's thing. pic.twitter.com/tjsg3HiRoI — Chris King (@chriskingstl) November 14, 2018 With a membership roll that exceeds one million regular donors and volunteers, DFA has a wide focus on progressive issues such as eliminating income inequality, dismantling structural racism and funding candidates of color. It launched in 2004 under the leadership of former Vermont governor and Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean . “After an election year defined by historic firsts and the profound impact women of color played in delivering them, I couldn’t be more excited about Democracy for America’s future with Yvette Simpson as its new chief executive,” DFA chair Jim Dean , the brother of Howard Dean, said in a statement. Black women candidates, like Ayanna Pressley , are part of the 2019 freshman class in Congress who received no support from Democrats. The party opposed the progressive candidate during her historic run to become the first Black woman to represent Massachusetts in Congress. Even the Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee backed her rival , incumbent Rep. Michael Capuano , in their primary race. “We went out and supported Ayanna Pressley from the start saying she is the right choice for this district,” said Simpson, who served as DFA’s federal electoral manager for the 2018 midterms. Simpson, a former Cincinnati City Council member who had an unsuccessful bid for mayor last year, said she planned to focus on recruiting and supporting candidates of color for the 2019 and 2020 elections. “You’re going to see us on the ground and partnering with (Black) organizations like the Collective PAC , Color of Change , Higher Heights to make sure we are finding the best candidates, candidates that represent the new American majority, Black and brown people, women, progressives, and make sure we give them the support they need to win,” she said with great anticipation of things to come. With a Black woman leading DFA, the organization will be able to build bridges to minority communities more effectively, she predicted that her crusade for the Democrats and the progressive movement to be more inclusive. “You and I both know that Black women get things done,” she declared. W hile Democrats made some noteworthy strides in last week’s midterm elections, the consensus seemed to be that the party has been going down the wrong path of politics as of late. And nowhere has that been more clear than among its leadership, which has suffered a series of missteps and blunders that may have contributed to Democrats not being as successful as they had hoped in the crucial elections. All of which likely explains the apparent internal revolution going on with the Democratic Party, which could emerge post-elections with new leadership. See Also: Black Women Call Out DNC And Ask For Meeting: ‘Organizing Without Black Women Will Prove To Be A Losing Strategy’ With the party struggling to recover from a political retreat for several election cycles, Speaker of the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been in the political crosshairs of Democrats who are eager to take her position . Ohio’s Rep. Marcia Fudge , a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), is one of the latest to hint at plans to compete for the coveted House Speaker post, telling the Huffington Post on Thursday that she’s “overwhelmed” by all the folks who want to see her challenge Pelosi’s leadership. “I don’t hate Nancy. I think Nancy has been a very good leader. I just think it’s time for a new one,” she said, adding that there are far more lawmakers who oppose Pelosi’s leadership than the 17 who signed a letter saying they won’t vote for her to continue as speaker in 2019. “I've not made a decision, I'm still thinking about it,” Rep. Marcia Fudge tells @ElizLanders tonight, adding she's been “overwhelmed” by people urging her to run. pic.twitter.com/0vP9686qZ7 — Ashley Killough (@KilloughCNN) November 15, 2018 Fudge dismissed the narrative that Pelosi led the party back to power in the House and criticized the California Democrat for failing to advocate for Black lawmakers in Congress. Perhaps most troubling to Black Democrats is Pelosi’s eagerness to make peace with President Trump , who brought his long history of racism with him to the White House. Shortly after Democrats won control of the House, the speaker began talking about the same bipartisanship that the Trump-led Republicans have avoided like the plague. Meanwhile, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez also came under fire from the CBC. Caucus members passed a vote of no confidence on Wednesday against Perez who took over the DNC in February 2017. Perez praised Black women for leading the party to victory last year in key races in Virginia and Alabama. However, when it came to several Black women candidates in 2018 races, the party showed little support initially, like in the case of Ayanna Pressley . Yet those same Black women stepped up as voters and candidates alike to help the party regain control of the House. Source: NurPhoto / Getty Let’s face it — Michael B. Jordan is one of the biggest sex symbols that Black women have had in the while. Sure, there’s People’s Sexiest Man Alive, Idris Elba , but Idris tends to attract a certain demographic — no shade. As for Michael Bae Jordan, his fans come in all shapes, sizes and tax brackets. Just last week, Nicki Minaj shot her shot with the actor during her acceptance speech at the People’s Choice Awards. She “joked”, “Shout-out to Donatella Versace for custom making this outfit for me, and shout-out to Michael B. Jordan because he’s going to be taking it off of me tonight.” And let’s not forget that young Tennis phenom Naomi Osaka has a huge crush on Michael Bae. During her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in September, Osaka admitted that Black Panther character Erik Killmonger was her crush in real life. In true Ellen form, she texted MBJ a photo of herself with the Tennis champ, and he actually responded. He said in a video, “Naomi, it’s Michael B. I just wanted to say congratulations. Ellen hit me up and told me she was having you on the show, so I just wanted to send my love and support. It’s a big moment for you….Keep being great.” I texted @MichaelB4Jordan about @Naomi_Osaka_ . Obvi he responded. pic.twitter.com/NNwq2iBcaK — Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) September 12, 2018 But both Nicki and Naomi will have to stand in line with the rest of us MBJ stans. Some of us have been loving the actor since he was a young boy on The Wire. Others fell in love with him during his time on Parenthood. Then there are folks who only know him as the villain in Black Panther. That’s ok though. There’s enough MBJ to go around for everyone to have their moment with him. And fellas, beware, because some ladies are willing to risk it all for a moment with MBJ, including their relationship. One fan tweeted , “My boyfriend going to have to share me with Michael B Jordan.” Tweeter Ryan Thompson joked, “Well, I’m Legally Changing My Name To Michael B. Jordan So That I Can Say All The Girls On Twitter Are Talking About Me.” Not a bad idea Ryan. If you plan to marry MBJ like 99.9% of other women on this planet, take the quiz below to find out which Michael B. Jordan will be your hubby.
