Tournament of THG Couples Edition: Upset City!

The quarterfinal round of the Tournament of THG: Couples Edition is history, with only one of the top-seeded pairs surviving and making the vaunted Final Four. The second-round matchups featured upsets galore, most notably #12 seeds Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds knocking off the President and the First Lady. In round one, they took out #5 Brangelina. Hard to say which is more impressive. Here’s a look at where we stand heading into this week’s semifinals: As you can see, Prince William and Kate Middleton also advanced over a higher seeded duo, as did Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. Neither matchup was close. The only tight contest was Blake and Ryan’s narrow win over the Obamas by a 52-48 percent margin. A harbinger of things to come for Barack this year? Probably not. Ryan and Blake are better looking than Mitt Romney. The two semifinal matchups begin tomorrow with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart against Lively and Reynolds, followed by the Royals against Miliam. If you haven’t taken part this far, it’s easy. All you have to do is vote for your favorite couple in each poll, so check back with THG each day and do so!

Welcome back to the first annual Tournament of THG: Couples Edition, where fans vote on the most popular celebrity couple in the entire universe! The concept is simple: Pick your favorite of the two pairs in each poll. Done. YOUR VOTES will determine the winners of this tournament showdown. After eight hotly-contested first-round battles, the quarterfinal bracket is set. Tuesday, Robsten took on JT and Jessica Biel in a #1 vs. #9 matchup. Today’s contest: The President and First Lady of the United States, Barack and Michelle Obama, against upstarts Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. I’m not sure what’s going on with these pictures, I think they’re of Taylor Momsen , but this chicks nipples aren’t taped up and her ass isn’t falling out of an inappropriate hooker costume. I’m confused. This woman looks pretty damn good, I would bring her to church if I was a religious man, but I’m not so I’d like to bring her to one of those weird sex parties where everybody gets dressed up and wear masks and all that good stuff. Matt Bomer Comes Out, Thanks Boyfriend in Acceptance Speech

It’s no secret that Matt Bomer is gay. The White Collar star has been with partner Simon Halls for years and the couple even has three sons together. But it was still noteworthy Saturday night when the actor took to the stage at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards to accept the New Generation Arts and Activism Award for his work in the fight against HIV/AIDS and publicly thanked acknowledged Halls for the first time, saying: “I’d really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry. Selena Gomez and The Scene: It’s Over!

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are still going strong, as the couple were spotted out just last night on a date in Los Angeles. But the 19-year old singer has called it quits with the other steady presence in her life, telling Facebook followers over the weekend that she and backup band The Scene won’t be playing together for a bit. “My band and I are going our separate ways for a while,” Selena wrote. “This year is all about films and acting and I want my band to play music wherever with whoever. We will be back but, it will be a good while. I love them and I love you guys.” Gomez and The Scene released “When the Sun Goes Down” last year, an album that peaked at number-three on the Billboard 200 chart. But it’s true that Selena’s film career is taking off: she’ll voice a character in Adam Sandler’s animated Hotel Transylvania later this year; and then star alongside James Franco and Vanessa Hudgens in Spring Breakers , a movie about a group of college girls who take over a fast-food joint in order to finance their Florida spring break.

Oprah Begs Viewers to Ditch Grammys For OWN, Nielsen Far From Pleased

Oprah Winfrey took to Twitter last night to ask Nielsen viewers to watch her cable network OWN instead of the Grammy Awards, a pathetic move that drew criticism from her OWN followers and the market research company alike. “Every 1 who can please turn to OWN especially if u have a Nielsen box,” she tweeted Sunday at the start Oprah’s Next Chapter and the mega-rated Grammys. She later added, “Commercial Grammy people… u can turn to OWN.” The tweets caused a backlash on the social networking site, with some readers – fans of O, no less – accusing her of “begging for viewers” and being “desperate.” Oprah followed up with a flurry of defensive replies that were apparently in response to reader criticism: “The word ‘please’ is used as courtesy not a beg.” “‘Desperate’ not ever a part of my vocabulary” … “‘Unethical’ us a little harsh don’t u think? Seemed like it made sense to me. Sorry if you’re offended.” The original tweet has since been deleted. Networks are not allowed to specifically target Nielsen subscribers. Policy prohibits “attempts to single out panel members … to change their viewing habits.” “In accordance with our policies, Nielsen is reviewing this with our clients and may withhold, breakout and/or make a note in the ratings,” a Nielsen rep told EW . “We take any violation of our policy seriously.” Given that 39.9 million people watched the 2012 Grammys , a more effective punishment might be simply releasing OWN’s miniscule ratings instead. Oprah Winfrey has since released this statement: “I removed the tweet at the request of Nielsen. I intended no harm and apologize for the reference.”

So these pictures of my internet girlfriend Blake Lively came out last week, I must have missed them like a loser, but I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t post them for you guys. Better late than never I guess. Not to mention the fact that she’s wearing a one-piece bathing suit and some high heels like the classy broad that she is. You’ve got to love fashion magazines, they always manage to get these hot women to strip down to nothing without feeling cheap or sleazy. Good job.
