The Voice Season 7 Episode 8 Recap: The Battles Continue!

The Voice Season 7 Episode 8 saw the Battle Rounds continue as the judges pit their treasure trove of talent against each other with only room for one to advance. Well, unless the coaches’ steal comes into play, that is. On the previous installment, three defeated singers profiled on The Voice Season 7 Episode 7 ended up being snapped up, which does make some sense. The show has an incentive to air the best of the battles, which feature two singers with the skills to move on. Yet it takes away from a little bit of the finality. Would Episode 8 be the same? Let’s find out … Jordy Searcy vs. Taylor Phelan (Team Pharrell) : Williams, along with Alicia Keys, focused on coaxing emotional performances in “Breakeven (Falling to Pieces).” It worked. The only problem was the big decision. Looking agonized, Pharrell ultimately chose Phelan for “the ambition he sings with, [which was] communicated very well to the audience and the world.” Alessandra Castronovo vs Joe Kirk (Team Adam) : Speaking of emoting, Levine asked the two young singers to battle it out on “Stay” by Rihanna. They delivered when it counted and then some. In a difficult decision, Levine ultimately chose Castronovo, which left the ousted Kirk, who was nervous and who Blake and Pharrell had praised, crying. Williams graciously walked him out and shared an exchange that tugged at the heartstrings. “Keep going,” Williams said. “If you stop now, then ‘no’ was right.” The Voice Season 7 Battle Rounds 1. Menlik Zergabachew vs. Troy Ritchie (The Voice Battle Round) Gwen Stefani matches Menlik Zergabachew and Troy Ritchie in a battle on Hall and Oates’ “Maneater.” Menlik Zergabachew vs. Tony Ritchie (Team Gwen) : With husband Gavin Rossdale on board her advisor, Gwen had the two do a reggae version of “Maneater.” Blake declared the result “the best battle of the day as far as I’m concerned,” while Stefani said “I wish I could put you guys in a blender and make one person.” The show will keep both. Gwen ultimately chose Ritchie, which prompted both Levine and Williams to quickly hit their buttons to try and steal Zergabachew. Williams said he loves working with singers who look different than they sound, and ended up with the services of Menlik when the Knockout Round begins. What did you think of The Voice Season 7 Episode 8? Which singers were the best, and who deserved (or did not deserve) a steal? Discuss in the comments!

Brooks Ayers Diagnosed With Cancer; Vicki Gunvalson Saddened By News

Brooks Ayers has just been diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer, and Vicki Gunvalson of The Real Housewives of Orange County is understandably devastated. Gunvalson expressed her sadness over the troubling turn for on-again, off-again love following his diagnosis of “aggressive and fast-moving” cancer. “I am very sad about the recent diagnosis of Brooks’s cancer reoccurrence,” she said. Added the original cast member, “It really puts life in perspective and makes you realize just how important health, family and friends are during this time.” The Real Housewives of Orange County staple thanked her fans “for respecting his privacy and for all your thoughts and prayers for Brooks during this time.” Ayers was initially diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma about a year ago. Following the recent developments, he’s “determined to fight this horrible disease and am surrounded by love and support from people who truly care about me.” “Life is funny sometimes; sometimes it is not,” Ayers told Radar this week. “Let me assure you that I am going to remain positive and continue to battle this disease vigorously with much tenacity along with seeking the appropriate medical care.” Vicki Gunvalson and Brooks Ayers have been together since 2011, shortly after her 2010 split from longtime husband Donn played out on Bravo. Lately, the embattled couple has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, as video surfaced of Brooks admitting he cheated on her with hookers . He also copped in another video to hurting her emotionally and physically, leading many fans to decry that apparent reference to domestic abuse. Whatever happens, we wish the couple the best in this tough time. Real Housewives: Before They Were Reality Stars! 1. Taylor Swift Joins The Voice as Adviser: Find Out Her Role & When She’ll Appear!

A Grammy-winning songwriter, “Shake It Off” singer, serial dater, world champion knitter and mom to Olivia Benson and Meredith is coming to The Voice. Taylor Swift will appear as a “key adviser” to all the coaches this season! Swift will work with Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani and mentor for all of the contestants on the various rosters. NBC announced today that Swift will make her first appearance on Monday, October 27, the very same day her forthcoming album, 1989 , drops. Swift will appear again on October 28 and on November 3 as the Knockout Rounds come to a close, and possibly on even more episodes throughout. Taylor will reportedly work with the aspirants on all facets of their music. From helping craft vocal technique, stage presence and on tailoring (pun not intended) songs to fit their personalities and strengths, she’ll do it all. Hopefully she’ll also teach them how to Twerk, and HARD. 19 Essential Taylor Swift GIFs 1. Taylor Swift Twerking Taylor Swift Twerking and grinding against Taylor Swift in an amazing GIF mashup of Taylor Swift photos. During the Knockout Round, each coach can steal one or more artists from their rivals before the Live Playoff Rounds and America’s voting begins. Now in its seventh season, The Voice has averaged a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 13.2 million viewers in live plus same day ratings. Not shabby. Swift, for her part, brings even more star wattage to the popular singing competition as the best-selling digital music artist of all time. When Swift isn’t doing her musical thing, she’s busy breaking the Internet. Whether she’s wearing shirts inspired by Tumblr memes , naming her cats after TV characters or throwing pizza parties for fans , she can do no wrong. Well, except perhaps for some of the high-profile romantic relationships she’s been in. She’s sworn off dating now, she says, and for good reason. Bet she wishes she could take a mulligan on a couple of these. 11 Dudes Who Have Dated Taylor Swift 1. Jake Gyllenhaal Jake Gyllenhaal allegedly took Taylor Swift’s v-card, then dumped her via text. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert: Is It All Over?!?

According to the latest issue of Life & Style, it’s all over for Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert . How do we know? Because the cover headline below screams IT’S OVER for the First Couple of Country Music. “Miranda gave him an ultimatum to shape up or ship out,” a source supposedly told the magazine. “She told him she wanted to start trying for a baby soon, but that he had to clean up his act first.” Of course, this same publication says Blake and Miranda are already having a baby , so… Shelton allegedly elected to keep drinking, Life & Style writes, which represented “an obstacle” the twosome “can’t overcome.” Divorce rumors have plagued Shelton and Lambert for over a year now, with the duo joking about them over Twitter in March 2013. In this case, the report claims Lambert is “done with [Blake] humiliating her and is ready for him to grow up and get serious about their family’s future. I have no doubt that she’s leaving Blake if he doesn’t change.” This story sounds bogus to us, but hey: at least Life & Style is no longer claiming that Shelton is cheating on Lambert . That’s progress, people! 26 Hilariously Untrue Tabloid Stories Open Slideshow 1. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Tabloid Cover Tim McGraw and Faith Hill aren’t doing too well. The Voice Results: Top 12 Revealed!

The playoffs wrapped on The Voice Tuesday, cementing the Top 12 as we move on to the live shows next week and ending the coaching phase. Up until this point, each of the surviving singers have either won two battles and/or enough points from a coach to advance. Now that’s all over. The coaches trimmed their rosters from five to three singers for the live shows, and Tuesday’s one-hour episode put Usher’s contestants in the hot seat. Stevie Jo – The Thrill Is Gone (The Voice) Stevie Jo puts it all on the line with his version of “The Thrill Is Gone.” 5. Melissa Jimenez – Halo (The Voice) Melissa Jimenez makes a bid for the live shows with her take on “Halo.” T.J. Wilkins sang “Tell Me Somethin’ Good” by Rufus and Chaka Khan, after Usher taught him a personal favorite technique for imitating instruments. Melissa Jimenez tackled a stripped-down version of a demanding song in Beyonce’s “Halo,” soaring on the long notes, but occasionally losing support. Stevie Jo went with BB King’s “The Thrill Is Gone,” full of loose blues riffs, raspy moments and falsettos, even if he held some notes for too long. Bria Kelly picked up a guitar for The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” and put forth an emotional performance that while not her best, was strong. Josh Kaufman dedicated Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain” to his wife, adding a lot of raspy high notes that the original track doesn’t have, and earning praise. Usher then announced that his three picks to advance were … Kelly, Kaufman and Wilkins! Jimenez and Jo are out. The live shows begin on Monday. What do you think of the playoff performances?
