Sh*t Is Real In Egypt: Americans Urged To Evacuate, Hilary Clinton Puts In Her Two Cents

The United States said Sunday it was offering evacuation flights to Europe for U.S. citizens who wish to leave Egypt, which has been rocked by violent protests seeking an end to President Hosni Mubarak’s rule and an outbreak of mass looting. The U.S. warned that Americans should consider leaving as soon as possible came on the sixth day of unprecedented protests against Mubarak’s regime that have rocked the Arab world. More than 100 people have been killed so far. NBC News’ Richard Engel, who is in Cairo, reported that 4,000 people had been wounded and 500 others, many of them women, were missing. Thousands of people gathered again Sunday in the central Tahrir Square, calling for Mubarak to quit. In the afternoon, about 15 tanks moved into the square as helicopters and military jets flew over head. There were reports of growing unease among the crowd. State media reported Sunday that Mubarak had met with top military commanders. Protesters have been trying to win over the army, whose support for the president is key to his survival as leader. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the U.S. expects that the protests in Egypt will lead to free and fair elections as part of an “orderly” transition to “real democracy.””I want the Egyptian people to have a chance to chart a new future,” said Clinton, who addressed the volatile situation in back-to-back interviews on the five morning shows before leaving on a trip to Haiti. Asked if she thought Mubarak had taken the necessary steps so far to hold on, Clinton said, “It’s not a question of who retains power. . It’s how are we going to respond to the legitimate needs and grievances expressed by the Egyptian people and chart a new path. Clearly, the path that has been followed has not been one that has created that democratic future, that economic opportunity that people in the peaceful protests are seeking.” The State Department said flights to evacuation points would begin Monday. “The U.S. Embassy in Cairo informs U.S. citizens in Egypt who wish to depart that the Department of State is making arrangements to provide transportation to safe haven locations in Europe,” it said in a statement , describing the evacuation as voluntary. The warning was an escalation in the assessment of the situation by the U.S. government, which previously had advised against non-essential travel to Egypt and told people already there to stay put. NBC News reported that there were 500 U.S. embassy personnel, not including dependants, and an estimated 50,000 U.S. citizens in Egypt plus another 36,000 nationals of other countries that the U.S. would assist if a large-scale evacuation was launched. “We do encourage U.S. citizens living and residing abroad to sign up with us at www.travel.state.gov,” the U.S. State Department said in a statement. “This not only allows us to make more accurate plans in the event of a crisis in country, but enables us to provide those U.S. citizens with information and to reach them, should an emergency occur.” Senior U.S. military officials told NBC News that there was no active planning for the U.S. military to help evacuate Americans from Egypt as of Sunday morning. However, the officials added that the Pentagon and CENTCOM were looking at all possible means to launch a non-combatant evacuation operation using ships, helicopters and aircraft. NBC News said the officials stressed no decisions had been made and no military assets had been ordered to move in that direction. Also Sunday, Turkey announced it was sending planes to Egypt to evacuate its citizens, according to the Anatolian Agency. Officials said two planes were being sent and the operation would take place over several days if necessary. Also, India sent a special plane to fly 300 of its citizens out of Egypt, The Times of India reported. Source

This Old Trout Needs To Keep Michelle Obama’s Name Out Of Her Mouth

Joan Rivers is still talking yang yang about our beloved FLOTUS, Michelle Obama: “We’ve bonded. We have bonded over shitty phone service all over the United States,” Joan Rivers remarked to us on Friday, after a few frustrating rounds of phone tag, thanks to AT&T and some botched lines. But “Can you hear me now?” aside, the comedienne is totally impossible to catch up with, anyway. As of late, she’s been making the media rounds, promoting her new reality show for We TV and sounding off on a variety of subjects all along the way. Check out what Joan had to say to HuffPost Style about Michelle Obama’s State Dinner dress, Tiger Mom and how she got into the fashion commenting business to begin with. HP: One thing that has been making headlines in the fashion world this week is Michelle Obama wearing McQueen to the State Dinner. JR: Wrong. Wrong. Sorry! Sorry, sorry, sorry, but we’re pushing America and we’re so behind in everything that we’re doing. We’re trying to push our own industries, the president’s coming out and saying we’ve got to make more American stuff, you know what, darling? Buy American. Wrong. I like the Obamas, I voted for Obama, but totally wrong. Very badly advised. It was like Jackie Onassis used to sneak the French couture into the White House. At least she had the decency to have Oleg Cassini copy it. So she would say, I’m wearing Oleg Cassini when in reality, he had just copied a lot of the fashions. HP: Do you think there are occasions when the first lady could wear a foreign designer? JR: In private, God bless her, she can wear what she wants. When she’s sitting around with just their friends or if [Obama]‘s not re-elected, or even if he is re-elected, she’ll have all those years ahead of her to wear what she wants. HP: Shifting gears, you’re on a reality show now with your daughter. What do you think of Tiger Mom? JR: I adore the Tiger Mom. I think a child should be strapped to the piano. The only thing is, she says, “This is the success,” and I don’t want to break her heart but if every child learns to play the piano or becomes a pianist or a violinist, how many are in each orchestra? You’re setting your children up to fail, you idiot. There’s one pianist per orchestra. So if you’re strapping your kid to the piano, you’re making your kid fail if he thinks he’s going to be a pianist. And if you’re strapping your kid…how many violinists? There’s a first violin, second violin, maybe a small string section. So unfortunately, poor Tiger Mom got it a little screwed up. I think she should strap them to the computer. Or let them make clothes for Michelle Obama. I think Tiger Mom should have all the kids in America designing clothes for Michelle Obama so she wouldn’t have to buy outside of our coasts. Streaker Sentenced To Two Years Probation For Running Bucket-Naked Through An Obama Rally

His mouth wrote a check that his a** couldn’t cash. PHILADELPHIA — A man has been sentenced to probation for streaking at a rally for President Barack Obama. Twenty-four-year-old Juan Rodriguez of Staten Island, N.Y., was arrested on charges of indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and open lewdness after streaking at the October rally before thousands in Philadelphia’s Germantown section. He was trying to win a million-dollar prize offered by Internet billionaire Alki David. Rodriguez didn’t get the $1 million. The Philadelphia Daily News reports that a judge sentenced Rodriguez on Friday to two years’ probation to be served in New York. Rodriguez says he picked Philadelphia because he thought the city would be more lenient. Prosecutors had been seeking 3 to 23 months in jail. Sir, you’re lucky “your honor” didn’t give you that time. Jesus Take The Wheel: Day 5 Of The Wildin’ Out, Chaos In Cairo Continues

Good brother Malcolm said “By any means necessary” and clearly the Egyptian people LIVE by that sh*t… Tanks guarded key government building around Cairo and the central square Saturday as protesters returned to the streets a day after massive and violent confrontations emboldened the movement demanding the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak. The Cabinet resigned in the midst of rampant looting across the sprawling city and the death toll since protests began rose to 45. Dozens of military armored personnel carriers and tanks as well as soldiers on foot deployed around a number of key government buildings in the capital, including state television and the Foreign Ministry after thousands of protesters besieged the two offices in Friday’s riots. The military was protecting important tourist and archaeological sites such as the Egyptian Museum, home to some of the country’s most treasured antiquities, as well as the Cabinet building. The pyramids on the outskirts of Cairo — Egypt’s premiere tourist site — were closed by the military to tourists. Even President Obama and Sen. John Kerry are speaking up and trying to assist President Hosni Mubarak to placate the situation as best possible. Stepping up the pressure, President Barack Obama told a news conference he called Mubarak immediately after his TV address and urged the Egyptian leader to take “concrete steps” to expand rights and refrain from violence against protesters. “The United States will continue to stand up for the rights of the Egyptian people and work with their government in pursuit of a future that is more just, more free and more hopeful,” Obama said. Sen. John Kerry, a Democrat and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland, said Saturday he believes Mubarak must address the issues that matter to the people of Egypt. “Dismissing the government doesn’t speak to some of those challenges,” he said. “I think he’s got to speak more to the real issues that people feel,” he said. “Dismissing the government doesn’t speak to some of those challenges.” Wow, wonder if people in America are ready to take it there if we don’t get our country back in shape? Kush Chronicles: Most Popular Youtube Town Hall Meeting Questions For President Barack Obama Are About Marijuana

F*ck everything else, the citizens of the United States of America want answers about when that “yah-mean” is about to be legalized: President Barack Obama plans to take questions from YouTube viewers Thursday afternoon, and for the third time in as many years, the overwhelmingly most popular query involves the legalization of marijuana. Of the top 100 most popular questions as rated by YouTube users, 99 are about the drug war or pot. Of the next one hundred, 99 are again about drug policy. Somehow, two questions about clean energy made their way into the top 200. The pot questions don’t stop there, but HuffPost stopped counting deep into the 200s, as the president is unlikely to answer all of them. If past history is any guide, he may not answer any of them. A White House spokesman tells HuffPost that the president on Thursday will answer whatever questions YouTube puts before him. “A selection of top voted questions has been made to insure that as many of the most important questions as voted by the YouTube community will be asked,” a YouTube spokesperson told HuffPost. Obama did answer the question in 2009, addressing folks who asked if the president would consider legalizing marijuana to boost the economy and tax revenue. “Can I just interrupt, Jared, before you ask the next question, just to say that we — we took votes about which questions were going to be asked and I think 3 million people voted,” he said to aide Jared Bernstein. “I have to say that there was one question that was voted on that ranked fairly high and that was whether legalizing marijuana would improve the economy — (laughter) — and job creation. And I don’t know what this says about the online audience — (laughter) — but I just want — I don’t want people to think that — this was a fairly popular question; we want to make sure that it was answered. The answer is, no, I don’t think that is a good strategy — (laughter) — to grow our economy in 2009.” That answer tortured legalization backers as much as being ignored, if this year’s questions are an indication. Many of them knock the president for laughing at their issue. SMH. Source

Nelson Mandela Hospitalized…”In No Danger And Is In Good Spirits”

Get well Madiba: The South African ruling party appealed for calm Thursday after Nelson Mandela was hospitalized a day earlier in Johannesburg. A spokesman for the African National Congress said Mandela was undergoing routine tests. “It is a well-known fact that Madiba is 92-years-old and no longer a young man,” said Jackson Mthembu, the spokesman. “As South Africans, let us all allow doctors at the hospital to do their best in conducting tests on our elder statesman. We also wish to confirm that Madiba is well taken care of at the hospital.” Madiba is the former president’s clan name, which is popular in the country. The spokesman also urged the media to “refrain from making unfounded and unwarranted speculation” on Mandela’s health. “We also request the media, in particular, to give Madiba’s family and the hospital the necessary privacy,” the spokesman said. Mandela was flown to a Johannesburg hospital on Wednesday from Cape Town, where he was on vacation, according to a source close to his family who is not authorized to speak to the media. “He is in no danger and is in good spirits,” his foundation said in a statement. Mandela rarely makes public appearances. His last appearance was at the closing ceremonies of the World Cup in South Africa over the summer. Wow…92-Years-Old, bless his heart. Via CNN
