Donald Trump Says More Guns Would Have Prevented Orlando Massacre Donald Trump has essentially refused to recognize any of the 49 lives lost or the sad gravity of the Orlando Nightclub shooting, instead taking every opportunity to congratulate himself, say “I told you so,” and push his agenda to cut off immigration — even though the shooter was American — and promote discrimination against Muslims . Now, he’s making the statement that MORE guns and increased shooting inside Pulse Nightclub could have prevented such a large loss of life. As he told CNN on Monday: “If you had some guns in that club the night that this took place, if you had guns on the other side, you wouldn’t have had the tragedy that you had.” “If people in that room had guns with the bullets flying in the opposite direction right at him, right at his head, you wouldn’t have had the same tragedy that you ended up having.” CNN’s Alisyn Camerota tried to point out that the club security guard inside was actually armed, but Trump insisted that patrons of the club should also have been armed for their own protection. “But if you had guns in that room, if you had — even if you had a number of people having them strapped to their ankle or strapped to their waist, where bullets could have flown in the other direction right at him, you wouldn’t have had the same kind of a tragedy.” Trump seems to not realize the difference between a Sig Saur MCX — capable of firing off hundreds of rounds per minute — and your everyday handgun. Besides the fact that most people aren’t in ‘Call of Duty’ mode while drinking and dancing inside a nightclub, nor should they expect to be. And thirdly, he fails to realize that NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO RUN AROUND WITH A GUN ON THEM. Women are twice as likely to struggle with anxiety disorders in comparison to men, new research from the University of Cambridge, which was published in the journal Brain and Behavior, suggests. People who do not know you feel a personal stake in every match you play. SW: That’s something. I meet people who say, “Girl, I watch every match, and I pray for you.” I feel that energy and those prayers. Sometimes when I’m down on the court, in the back of my mind, I’m thinking, “They want me to win. Is there anything else I can give?” It encourages me to do better, to fight harder. SW: No. I don’t think that was fair. I’m the one who’s playing, who’s making mistakes or making winners. I’m not one to blame anyone else for anything. And I don’t think anyone else should either. I played a really good opponent that day. And I wasn’t at my best. Pay Equality For Women MHP: The U.S. women’s soccer team has been challenging inequity in women’s sports, fighting for equal pay. It’s an issue facing NCAA women in multiple fields [including tennis, where women make 80 cents for each dollar men earn]. Want to weigh in on this? SW: These sports have a lot of work to do. And I really hope that I can be helpful in that journey because I do believe that women deserve the same pay. We work just as hard as men do. I’ve been working, playing tennis, since I was three years old. And to be paid less just because of my sex—it doesn’t seem fair. Will I have to explain to my daughter that her brother is gonna make more money doing the exact same job because he’s a man? If they both played sports since they were three years old, they both worked just as hard, but because he’s a boy, they’re gonna give him more money? Like, how am I gonna explain that to her? In tennis we’ve had great pioneers that paved the way—including Venus, who fought so hard for Wimbledon to pay women the same prize money they pay men, and Billie Jean King, who is one of the main reasons Title IX exists. Having Kids MHP: You mentioned kids. Do you want a family of your own? SW: Yeah. I definitely want to have kids one day. That’s something I’ve always wanted since as long as I could remember. And the older I get, the more I’m like, “I’m too young!” [Laughs.] MHP: The older you get, the more real it gets, the more you realize how hard parenting is, right? SW: Yeah. I was just joking with Venus about this yesterday and saying, “I’m far too young!” Hopefully I’ll be able to mature one of these days, get serious, and at least have them pretty fast. Texas Mother Dies In Police Custody 2 Weeks After Car Accident Another black woman has died in a Texas jail , despite pleas from her family asking that law enforcement take her for proper medical treatment. Honey Marshall set up a GoFundMe account on behalf of her 22-year-old sister Symone, who passed away last week leaving her 3-year-old daughter without a mother: On April 26th, 2016, Symone Marshall was ran off the highway by a road rage filled man causing her vehicle to flip over three times and end up in a ditch. When police came to the scene, instead of being taken to a hospital, Symone was held in police custody for two weeks with NO medical attention for not possessing a valid drivers license. Police refused to take her to a hospital to be evaluated by professional doctors, (even with her sister, Honey Marshall calling and requesting for them to do so) which resulted in her dying in jail two weeks later on May 10th, 2016 from a blood clot in her lung. Symone was a loving sister, friend and mother. She didn’t deserve to be held in jail like a criminal and lose her life. This act of careless negligence on behalf of this Texas Jail cost Symone her life at only 22 years old. She leaves behind a precious 3 year old daughter that loved her mommy more than anything in this world and Symone loved her the same. We are seeking 3 things to help us: media attention on this issue, justice for the two weeks of gross negligence that resulted in her death, and donations toward giving Symone a beautiful funeral. We just don’t understand how the police allowed this to happen. According to an interview with NY Daily News reporter Shaun King Marshall was experiencing headaches and blackouts — signs she should have received serious medical attention. “My sister Symone moved to Texas for a fresh start in life a few months ago. She was doing good down there, had a job and was about to buy a house. She’s a beautiful person, never been in trouble before and didn’t deserve this,” said Honey Marshall. “When I talked to her from jail, she complained that her head was hurting and she kept blacking out,” said her sister. “I called the jail several times and requested for them to take her to a real hospital and they wouldn’t do so. If they would have this, her death could have been prevented and my sister would still be here. My heart hurts so bad. She was my best friend. I am so angry that they did this to her.” What makes matters worse is that police and jail officials aren’t talking. They declined to comment or release information about the accident to the Daily News and Marshall’s family. The public should be outraged and demanding answers! President Obama Responds To Boris Johnson’s “Dog-Whistle Racist” Comments About His Kenyan Ancestry London Mayor Boris Johnson is being branded a racist after claiming Obama has an “ancestral dislike” for Britain as a result of his “part-Kenyan” heritage. In case you missed it, Obama is currently visiting London, but not everyone has been welcoming. According to Al Jazeera reports : In an opinion essay published in the right-leaning tabloid The Sun , the mayor criticized Obama’s eagerness to urge British voters to remain in the EU and argued that the president may be “anti- British”. Johnson, who is seen as the unofficial leader of the campaign for the UK to leave the EU, claimed in his article that Obama removed a bust of Britain’s war-time prime minister Sir Winston Churchill from the Oval Office shortly after he took office in 2009. “Some said it was a snub to Britain. Some said it was a symbol of the part-Kenyan president’s ancestral dislike of the British empire – of which Churchill had been such a fervent defender” wrote the London mayor. Sheesh… This guy is a piece of work. Fortunately not all Brits are buying his line of reasoning: Tory MP Sir Nicholas Soames, who is the grandson of Sir Winston Churchill, said Johnson’s comments were “appalling” and “totally wrong on almost everything”. “Time and time again, his judgment is awry and he shows in this article a remarkable disregard for the facts, the truth and for all judgment,” he told LBC radio. “I don’t think Boris has the stature to be leader.” Sir Nicholas also said it was inconceivable that Churchill would not have welcomed the views of Obama. John McDonnell, Labour Party’s shadow chancellor, suggested that Johnson’s remarks were “racist”. “Mask slips again,” he tweeted. “Boris part-Kenyan Obama comment is yet another example of dog-whistle racism from senior Tories. He should withdraw it.” Obama responded to Johnson’s comments in a press conference revealing he still keeps a bust of Churchill, but moved it in favor of one of MLK: Talking next to British Prime Minister David Cameron, Obama said he loved Churchill and still had a bust of the British leader in his White House private residence. “Right outside the door of the Treaty Room, so that I see it every day – including on weekends when I’m going into that office to watch a basketball game – the primary image I see is a bust of Winston Churchill,” he said. “It’s there voluntarily because I can do anything on the second floor. I love Winston Churchill. Love the guy.” Obama said there was a bust of Churchill in the Oval Office during the presidency of his predecessor George W Bush but he decided that he would have a bust of the civil rights leader Martin Luther King in his office instead. “I thought it was appropriate – and I think most people in the United Kingdom might agree – that as the first African-American president, it might be appropriate to have a bust of Dr Martin Luther King in my office,” he said. Virginia Governor Signs Executive Order That Allows Felons To Vote Again Rather than having Republicans shut down the idea of restoring felons their voting rights, Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe used his executive power and restored voting rights to hundreds of thousands of felons on Friday. From the New York Times : Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia used his executive power on Friday to restore voting rights to more than 200,000 convicted felons, circumventing the Republican-run legislature. The action effectively overturns a Civil War-era provision in the state’s Constitution aimed, he said, at disenfranchising African-Americans. The sweeping order, in a swing state that could play a role in deciding the November presidential election, will enable all felons who have served their prison time and finished parole or probation to register to vote. Most are African-Americans, a core constituency of Democrats, Mr. McAuliffe’s political party. Amid intensifying national attention over harsh sentencing policies that have disproportionately affected African-Americans, governors and legislatures around the nation have been debating — and often fighting over — moves to restore voting rights for convicted felons. Virginia imposes especially harsh restrictions, barring felons from voting for life. “There’s no question that we’ve had a horrible history in voting rights as relates to African-Americans — we should remedy it,” Mr. McAuliffe said in an interview Thursday, previewing the announcement he made on the steps of Virginia’s Capitol, just yards from where President Abraham Lincoln once addressed freed slaves. “We should do it as soon as we possibly can.” It’s said that an estimated 5.84 million Americans are denied the right to vote because of felony convictions.
