How to green our mindset

” Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.” John Muir “I still find the day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read and all the friends I want to see.” John Burroughs The very first step in greening our lives is to green our attitude, the way we think about and embrace life. Here are some simple tips: Unplug our media mind once in awhile and get out on a walk or even a sit in nature. A study by University of Illinois scientists Frances E. Kuo and William C. Sullivan found that a canopy of trees and greenery cools more than the forest floor, it can help to cool mental anguish and unrest. Their findings clearly indicate that: “Exposure to trees and vegetation seems to reduce mental fatigue and feelings of irritability that come with it.” Gardening is a great way to unplug from stress and connect with nature. A green time-out is usually just the ticket for improving our kids mindset because children benefit greatly from immersion in the green world as well. Game Calls Gang Starr MC Guru ‘A Legend’

‘I felt the same way I felt when Jam Master Jay got murdered,’ MC says. By Steven Roberts Photo: Cary Hammond/ Redferns The hip-hop world is still reeling from the passing of legendary Gang Starr MC Guru (real name: Keith Elam), who died Monday at the age of 43 from cancer. Fans have reacted to his death with found memories of Guru’s work with DJ Premiere for Gang Starr and his Jazzmatazz series, and artists like Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj and Fabolous reached out via Twitter to share their condolences. When MTV News caught up with Game in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, he said he was caught off-guard by the news. “It happens so fast sometimes. I felt the same way I felt when I woke up and they said that Jam Master Jay got murdered, and then I woke up this morning to a text [saying], ‘Guru is dead.’ ” Game said he got the text from a DJ in New York, and things like that can serve as a wake-up call, especially when people pass in an untimely fashion. He even compared the late, legendary MC’s impact on East Coast hip-hop to Ice Cube’s influence on the West. “That’s like waking up tomorrow — and knock on wood — and somebody like Cube died,” Game said. “So my condolences to his family and to hip-hop for losing a legend.” Share your memories of Guru and Gang Starr in the comments below. Green Day, ‘American Idiot’ Cast Celebrate ‘Legit Rock And Roll’ Opening Night

‘The night was electric,’ actor Tony Vincent says at afterparty. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Rya Backer Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt at the “American Idiot” afterparty Photo: MTV News With opening night of the “American Idiot” musical officially in the books, the guys in Green Day can officially focus on something else that’s important: enjoying their natural high. “This is the highest moment I think we’ve ever had as a band, in the 21 years we’ve been around,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told MTV News at the “Idiot” afterparty, held at New York’s Roseland Ballroom on Tuesday night. “And we’ve been pretty high,” drummer Tre Cool interjected. That feeling of euphoria extended to the cast of “Idiot,” too. After all, they’ve been working on the production for close to two years now, shepherding it through rehearsals, a run at the Berkeley Repertory Theater last year and, finally, to Broadway. It’s been a labor of love every step of the way, so, you know, they were feeling pretty good at the party too. “It’s one of those nights that’s going to be really difficult to put into words in the future,” John Gallagher Jr., who plays Johnny, said. “It’s been a long time coming. We’ve been working on the show for almost two years, so to open it on Broadway — which has always been the ultimate dream, the ultimate destination — it’s just been incredible.” “The night was electric, because the house was incredibly endorsing of us, from the time that the curtain went up,” added Tony Vincent, who plays St. Jimmy. “And when it went down, there was this huge relief, that what we brought to Broadway was legit rock and roll, for the first time in, I think, possibly, ever. And we killed it tonight.” Early reviews of the show have been equally gushing — The New York Times called the production “thrillingly raucous and gorgeously wrought” — and so, there seemed to be nothing to do besides celebrate. After all, it’s been a long journey to get to this point. “[It was] unbelievable. Just completely unbelievable,” Michael Esper, who plays Will, said. “The experience of doing this show tonight was something I will never forget as long as I live. The excitement from the house, the feeling onstage, the love between everybody, it was overpowering.” Do you plan on seeing “American Idiot” on Broadway?
