Celtics and Knicks Engage in Post-Game Shoving Match: Who Started It?

The Boston Celtics shocked the basketball world last night by keeping their season alive in New York, defeating the Knicks 92-86 in Game Five of the NBA Playoffs. But the real fireworks were saved until after the game, when Celtics benchwarmer Jordan Crawford got into it with Raymond Felton and Carmelo Anthony. Watch the fracas below: Celtics vs. Knicks: Post-Game Shoving Match Did this beef have anything to do with Kevin Garnett telling Anthony awhile back that his wife tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios ? Crawford – who didn’t even play in the game – simply told The Boston Globe: “They was talking to me, baby. They was talking to me. Yeah, they like me. I think it’s that smile I keep carrying… “I don’t know what happened, you know what I’m saying? I was on the bench the whole game, I don’t know why they was talking to me. “They gotta be upset, their [expletives] tightening up. Of course they upset.” Well, okay then. That clears it all right up! Game 6 will be played in Boston tomorrow night.

Charlie Sheen and Pauly D: A Boston Love-Fest

Charlie Sheen may not have any opening acts with him on tour (sorry, Randy Quaid ) but did receive a boost last night from none other than Pauly D. The Jersey Shore star, upon joining Sheen on stage in Boston, told him, “I wanna be you for one day!” Sheen played along and got the crowd into it. “Are we happy to see this young man? We told you there would be surprises,” he said. “I told you, none of this is planned!” Really, Charlie? Get out. Charlie Sheen and Pauly D in Boston Pauly D wasted no time plugging his Jersey Shore spinoff , asking Sheen to play wingman: “I got a new show coming up and I want you to be on it.” Sheen replied, “What about just one episode and we’ll make it epic!” and Pauly D agreed. “I look forward to it, you’re awesome,” Sheen told Pauly. “You’re hotter in person!” After Pauly D left, Sheen said, “I don’t watch the show… but I can tell he’s very popular here. He’s a handsome bastard.” Sadly, this was the highlight of an otherwise bad night at Agganis Arena.

Barnicle: Christine Can’t Win Cause She’s ‘Crazy’

The trashing of Christine O’Donnell continues.  Two days after Karl Rove took to the air to scald his party’s newly-nominated candidate, Mike Barnicle has declared that O’Donnell won’t win because she’s not merely “different,” but “crazy.” On today’s Morning Joe, the former Boston Globe columnist fumbled and fumfered when asked to back up his allegation with facts.  And speaking of facts, Barnicle had his badly wrong when it came to the number of votes O’Donnell won in the primary.  But that didn’t stop him from slurring the Delaware Republican. Watch as Barnicle goes into stutter mode when asked to support his assertion. Note: Barnicle claimed O’Donnell had garnered “only 24,000 votes” in the Delaware primary election.  Hey, he was only off by a factor of 25%+ .  Not bad for the MSM. PAT BUCHANAN: We are now 24, 48 hours later. She has had a sensational kick-off.  She’s controversial; all these people are rushing to her defense because she’s sort of been martyred by Rove and the neo-cons. There’s an enormous boost here: you’ve only got seven weeks left in the campaign! MIKE BARNICLE: Here’s her [problem] — JOE SCARBOROUGH: You say “martyred.”  Rove didn’t martyr her: he told the truth about her history. BARNICLE: Here’s her problem. BUCHANAN:  Look: I know a lot of truths about Republicans. Why would I go on the air now and start trashing them? MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Umm, so that better ones emerge? BARNICLE: A. She only got 24,000 votes. All right?  She got very few votes in a very small turn-out Republican primary. The other problem, the larger problem she has, I would submit, is this: that “different” this year, for a candidate, is good.  People are looking for “different” this year.  “Crazy” is not good. MARK HALPERIN: She’s not coming across as crazy. BUCHANAN: Crazy? HALPERIN: I’m not so sure. BARNICLE: She will.  She will.  She will because of uh, eh, uh, eh.  It’s just my —

Establishment Press Misses Rhode Island Parallel to Ariz. Immigration Law for Nearly Three Months

Preconceived notions are dangerous things in journalism. They cause one to assume facts that aren’t in evidence, leading to false or incomplete results. A classic example has played out in the nearly three months since Arizona passed its “1070 law.” Among other things, it mandates that law enforcement officials verify citizenship status in situations involving police contact if they have a reasonable suspicion that someone is not in the country legally. It seems that virtually everyone covering the story has been assuming that Arizona’s law is the first of its kind. Well, maybe as a “law” it is. But in Rhode Island, of all places, Boston Globe reporter Maria Sacchetti finally noticed on July 6 (HT Hot Air ) that police have been doing what Arizona will start doing on July 29 since 2008 as a result of a gubernatorial executive order: R.I. troopers embrace firm immigration role In contrast to Mass., they report all who are present illegally From Woonsocket to Westerly, the troopers patrolling the nation’s smallest state are reporting all illegal immigrants they encounter, even on routine stops such as speeding, to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE. “There are police chiefs throughout New England who hide from the issue . . . and I’m not hiding from it,’’ said Colonel Brendan P. Doherty, the towering commander of the Rhode Island State Police. “I would feel that I’m derelict in my duties to look the other way.’’ Rhode Island’s collaboration with federal immigration authorities is controversial; critics say the practice increases racial profiling and makes immigrants afraid to help police solve crimes. But it is a practice that Governor Deval Patrick’s opponents in the governor’s race are urging Massachusetts to revive. The Patrick administration has staunchly opposed having state troopers enforce immigration laws, and shortly after he took office in 2007, the governor rescinded a pact by his predecessor, Mitt Romney, to assign 30 troopers to the so-called federal 287(g) program, which trains local police to enforce federal immigration law. … In 2008, Governor Donald L. Carcieri, a Republican, issued an executive order mandating immigration checks on all new state workers and ordering State Police to assist federal immigration officials. Sitting in his office in an old farmhouse off a country highway, Doherty said the State Police had collaborated with federal immigration officials before, but the relationship has become more formal in recent years. In 2007, he said, he trained all state troopers in how to deal with noncitizens because of widespread confusion and because Congress did not resolve the issue of illegal immigration. Troopers learned to notify consulates when noncitizens are arrested, how to recognize different forms of identification, and how to deal with different cultures. One can’t help but wonder how well Ms. Sacchetti or whoever came up with the idea of looking into Rhode Island’s posture is being treated in the Globe’s newsroom these days. Her bosses and the rest of the establishment press should be really be asking themselves why they didn’t bother to look into what other states are doing when the Arizona law passed. Or, worse if true, they should be justifying why parallels they did find (how could they have missed California, as noted by the NewsBusters staff on Friday ?) were somehow not worthy of coverage. Did they decide to not look at Rhode Island because “everybody knows” that such a liberal state couldn’t possibly be strictly enforcing immigration laws — when in fact it is?
