‘Dark Knight Rises’ Movie Awards Footage: What We Saw

Brand-new footage gives fans terrifying insight into Bane, who may be Batman’s most menacing enemy ever. By Kevin P. Sullivan Tom Hardy as Bane in “Dark Knight Rises” Photo: Warner Bros. After weeks of waiting, never-before-seen footage from ” The Dark Knight Rises ” debuted at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards , and no matter how much awesomely new material we saw, the clip could never be long enough. Christian Bale , Gary Oldman , Joseph Gordon-Levitt , and director Christopher Nolan were on hand to present the footage, and they did not let us down. The montage included brand-new scenes with Catwoman, more footage of the aerial vehicle, the Bat, and a terrifying shot of Bane, sure to stay burned in the collective memory of Batman fans. Here’s our take on the new “Dark Knight Rises” footage. The Batcave It may seem like a silly thing to look forward to when you consider all the action and chemically enhanced super villains in the film, but the Batcave will be making a welcome return for the final installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The secret lair took one movie off after it burned to the ground in “Batman Begins,” but the newest footage from the movie shows the underground sanctuary up-and-running with a shiny, new Batsuit case to boot. The Bat’s Best Friend The latest round of TV spots has shown us the more playful side to Nolan’s take on Selina Kyle. Like any good version of Catwoman, she’s going to tease Bruce Wayne, maybe play a little hard to get, but when it comes down to it, she isn’t all that bad. The last trailer even showed her fighting alongside the Caped Crusader. In the MTV Movie Awards footage, the best part of the segment came when a frightened guard turned the corner to come face-to-face with Kyle, who gave him a little tip. “He’s behind you,” she said, of course referring to the upside down Batman, waiting to pounce. The clip made us incredibly excited to find out just how well these two work together. “Let the Games Begin” It appears that Bane has one thing on his mind: Taking Gotham for his own. It starts with the destruction of the football stadium during the Gotham Rogues game, and if the clip is any indication, Bane seems to be pretty successful in his takeover initially. We see his thugs dragging a man into a chair as if he’s about to face the judge, jury and executioner. Men with guns freely roam the wintry streets of Gotham. The new footage makes us wonder just how bad things get before Batman is (hopefully) able to save the day. That Shot Of Bane You know the one. Near the very end of the segment, Batman and Bane charge at each other, like we’ve seen a dozen times before in trailers and TV spots. Only this time, Bane grabs Batman’s fist as he tries to throw a punch, and the look on Tom Hardy’s face is terrifying. It’s the kind of look that instantly makes you believe Selina Kyle in the next scene when she says, “That you should be as afraid of him as I am.” Believe us, Catwoman, we saw the look on his face. We’re afraid. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what just happened at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards ! MTV Movie Awards: Winners And Losers

From shirtless strippers to costumed crimefighters, here are the biggest winners and losers of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. By Josh Wigler Joe Manganiello at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ WireImage You win some, you lose some — and believe us, there were plenty of both at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. It was a night that ranged from the darkly comedic to the deeply sentimental, with plenty of poorly deployed penis jokes and tear-jerking speeches to be found throughout the show’s two-hour runtime. Long story short: To say that this year’s Movie Awards was eventful is an extreme understatement. Keep reading for our list of all the winners and losers of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Winner: Russell Brand The show’s producers claimed there were no limits on what he could say and who he could insult, and they were right: Brand was hilariously vicious in his free-flowing assault on the Movie Awards crowd, with highlights ranging from his constant call-outs of “Twilight” and “Hunger Games” to his self-deprecating, Katy Perry-referencing marriage gig. Indeed, he extended a marriage proposal to “X-Men” actor Michael Fassbender — speaking of whom … Loser: Michael Fassbender It’s always wonderful to lay eyes upon the Irish actor, but even his staunchest supporters have to admit that it just wasn’t his night. Fassbender was on the receiving end of many a Fassmember joke, with Brand referencing his “huge, engorged talent” on multiple occasions. He even got his ass kicked onstage by “Prometheus” co-star Charlize Theron ahead of the Best Fight award . For “Shame,” Michael. Winner: “Twilight,” “Harry Potter” and “Hunger Games” Fans Can’t we all just get along? It appears that the answer is yes, we can! All three of these powerhouse franchises walked away from the Movie Awards with wins in major categories. Surprising to few, “Hunger Games” led the pack with Best Male and Female Performance, Best Fight and Best On-Screen Transformation wins; “Potter” walked away with Best Cast and Best Hero; and “Breaking Dawn” snagged Movie of the Year and Best Kiss — the fourth year in a row for both, no less! Loser: Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Taylor Lautner Hanging onto that last point for a second longer — where the heck were these guys when KStew was begging for a smooch? Robert Pattinson was nowhere to be found at this year’s show, and Kristen needed a kissing partner to accept her award. Her “Snow White” co-stars weren’t around to help her out, paving the way for the erstwhile Jacob Black to finally make his move — but nada. All three of them struck out without swinging at a single pitch. Loser: Shirtless Channing Tatum Fans It was clear that “Magic Mike” himself wanted to take it all off when he co-presented the Best On-Screen Transformation award with Matthew McConaughey. Alas, it was not meant to be. Blame McConaughey, who was spot-on with his “thanks for ruining all the fun, Dad” impression. Jerk. Winner: Shirtless Joe Manganiello Fans Where Tatum fell short, Big Di– Richie came through in a big way. Like, seriously big — grind-your-junk-all-over-Elizabeth-Banks levels of big . It was worth it for all the “Magic Mike” fans hurting for some manly goodness after Tatum’s disappointing showing. Loser: Mila Kunis’ Heckler Jennifer Aniston may have won Best On-Screen Dirtbag (sorry, Oliver Cooper), but it was the audience member who heckled presenter Mila Kunis who’s truly most deserving of the award. His inaudible remarks visibly shook Kunis and very nearly prompted a physical reaction from her “Ted” co-star Mark Wahlberg. Anyone who attracts the ire of the Boston actor automatically lands on the loser list. Winner: Mark Wahlberg’s Restraint In fact, let’s give a shout-out to Wahlberg for not losing his cool and getting all medieval on the Kunis heckler’s you-know-what. When Wahlberg caught up with MTV News after the incident, he explained his restraint: “I did say somebody was going to get slapped, but I figure it’s Sunday, I went to church, I’m feeling forgiving right now.” A far cry from the guy who appeared on “The Knife Show” two years ago. Loser: Johnny Depp’s Missing Gold Tooth We kid, we kid. (Although we do hope Depp found that thing eventually.) True to Depp’s unorthodox but awesome nature, the Generation Award winner accepted his new title by rocking out super hard alongside the Black Keys , delivering the single-most rocking performance of Movie Awards night — not an easy achievement considering the badass performances from Wiz Khalifa and Fun. earlier in the evening. Winner: “The Dark Knight Rises” Fans Listen, kids — we promised you some awesome, exclusive, never-before-seen footage from the Batman conclusion, and we did not disappoint. Let us recount the amazingness: Batman and Catwoman teaming up, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake interrogating Selina Kyle, Bane preventing anyone from entering Gotham City with a massive barricade of cars — and that’s not even mentioning the presentation of the footage, which included a tear-felt acknowledgement of the late Heath Ledger and universal applause for “Dark Knight” steward Christopher Nolan. It was an epic, unforgettable way to salute what is arguably the greatest comic book movie franchise in history one last time. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Defense of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional

An appeals court ruled Thursday that the Defense of Marriage Act, a law that essentially denies a host of benefits to gay married couples, is unconstitutional. The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston said the law, which defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, discriminates against gay couples. Ya think? The law was passed in 1996 by a Republican-led Congress at a time when it appeared as if Hawaii would become the first state to legalize gay marriage. Since then, many states have instituted their own bans on gay marriage, while eight states have approved it. Massachusetts was the first in 2004. The appeals court ruled the DOMA is unconstitutional because it interferes with the right of a state to define marriage and denies married gay couples federal benefits given to heterosexual married couples, including the ability to file joint tax returns. Somewhere in Indiana, this church kid is singing an angry song. During arguments before the appeals court last month, a lawyer for gay married couples said the law amounts to “across-the-board disrespect.” The couples argued that the power to define and regulate marriage had been left to states for more than 200 years before Congress passed this. An attorney defending the law argued that Congress “wanted to preserve a traditional and uniform definition of marriage” and maintains the power to define terms used to federal statutes to distribute federal benefits. The court did not agree. Last year, President Barack Obama announced the U.S. Department of Justice would no longer defend the constitutionality of the law. Obama voiced support for gay marriage earlier this spring, becoming the first U.S. President to do so. Your view on same-sex marriage :

Celtics Fan Curses at TV, Daughter Follows Suit

Hey, it’s the second round of the playoffs. $h!t is serious. A Boston Celtics fan recently became irate at a non-call against a 76ers player he believed committed a traveling violation, and cursed the TV in front of his two-year-old daughter, who naturally followed suit and repeated his exclamations verbatim. Are you serious? That’s how you talk to your kid!? You’re a grown man and should know better. They never call traveling in the NBA. See Jordan, Michael and/or Ewing, Patrick. Teach your child right. Real Life Barbie Or Fake Photoshopped Wannabe? Ukranian Woman Claims Her “Doll-Like” Proportions Are Not The Work Of A Plastic Surgeon

Meet 21-year-old Valeria Lukyanova, a Ukrainian model who says she is the real-life Barbie . Valeria has sparked an online debate over how the Mattel toy may really be pushing youth to have a warped sense of reality about beauty and what a healthy female should look like. While Valeria claims on her blog that she’s the most famous woman on the Russian internet because of her doll-like appeal, the debate rages on about whether her image has been photoshopped or if she used plastic surgery to achieve her look, or even whether she’s a real woman at all: Hundreds of photos on her Facebook page show a wide-eyed, nearly fake-looking Lukyanova posing in a variety of scanty outfits. But with nearly 8,000 subscribers to her Facebook page, it’s unclear whether Lukyanova exists at all, or whether it’s all a hoax thanks to the world of photo editing. The model did not return requests for comment. If photoshop is not a factor in getting Lukyanova’s look, she likely underwent a barrage plastic surgery. Dr. Malcolm Roth, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, said plastic surgery should never be used to transform oneself into a favorite celebrity or, in this case, a play toy. “We believe evaluating any and all issues that may affect our patients’ well-being, including psychological factors, is part of providing total patient care,” Roth said in a statement. “Additionally, Valeria is also only 21, so certain milestones in growth and physical maturity ought to be considered before plastic surgery is performed. ASPS cautions patients to keep in mind that plastic surgery is real surgery with real risks, just as with any operation, so the decision should not be taken lightly.” Whether Lukyanova is real or fake, photoshopped or plastic surgery, Diane Levin, professor of education at Wheelock College in Boston, said the mystery of her existence is not the issue. The problem is that her flaunted image epitomizes and exemplifies the issue of objectification of women in today’s society. “Barbie has always been controversial and really changed the discussion on how girls play,” said Levin, author of the book, “The Next Sexualized Childhood and How Parents Can Protect Their Kids.” ”When Barbie came around, play suddenly became about dressing up and looking right and it eventually played a role in how women wanted to look in real life.” While Lukyanova is an extreme example of societal expectations of perfect beauty, Levin said, “If society expects women to look like that, it is harder for almost any woman to totally resist it. “This just feeds into our media screen culture, where being involved with real things are becoming more and more removed for children,” Levin said. “Even if she’s totally photoshopped, the fact that her body is being changed to one that no one actually can attain epitomizes what is happening in our society.” Levin encouraged parents to have an open discussion with their children about sexualization and objectification in the media. “Rather than just writing it off as someone or something that is ridiculous, allow your child to share your thoughts and have an open discussion about healthy self-image and expectations for themselves and others,” she said. Remember when they told us that if Barbie was real she’d just topple over because her proportions are so out of whack? Yea, well, what now? Is this chick even real or is this some kind of internet hoax? Source Facebook

Paul Pierce was a beast on Tuesday night. The Boston Celtics — down 0-1 to the Atlanta Hawks and sans their biggest star and most reliable shooter — would have had a tough time beating the Hawks in four of their next five games had they given away Game 2 in the same way that they essentially gave away Game 1. Pierce realized that. New Kids Off The Block, Brits Advance In Battle Of The Boy Bands!

One Direction, the Wanted, Jonas Brothers move on to Elite Eight. Voting in third round begins now! By Christina Garibaldi Westlife Photo: Emma Peios/ Getty Images The British boy bands are in it to win it! MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands advanced into the third round on Monday (April 30), with U.K. group Westlife continuing their impressive run by beating out O-Town in the Sweet 16, and England’s 5ive overtaking LFO. The two groups join English newcomers One Direction and the Wanted, as well as Big Time Rush and Mindless Behavior in the Elite Eight. New Kids on the Block had a tough matchup against the Beatles. In the end, the Boston band just couldn’t gain enough votes to get them through. But the closest match was a fight to the finish between the Jonas Brothers and Hanson. The JoBros ultimately overtook the trio in a last-minute surge of voting to continue on in the competition. So what do the Elite Eight matchups look like now? Read on for a breakdown and remember polls close at noon ET on Wednesday! Midwest Westlife vs. the Beatles : Westlife’s fanbase is no joke. Fans from around the world have been voting for these guys around the clock to ensure they make it to the finals. But the group, who are currently in rehearsals for their farewell tour, will have a tough Elite Eight matchup in the Beatles. The Fab Four barely made it by New Kids on the Block in the Sweet 16, so expect another close matchup in this round. Fun fact about these two groups: Westlife’s first seven singles debuted at the top of the U.K. charts, tying with the Beatles’ record. East 5ive vs. Jonas Brothers : 5ive have surprised many of the fans watching this competition. They took out two of the biggest boy bands of the late ’90s in the early stages of competition, ‘NSYNC and LFO, and will now face off against the Jonas Brothers. While 5ive haven’t been an active group since 2001, they fanbase is still very loyal. It might be tough, however, to get past the Jonases. The JoBros are still very much a group and are reportedly working on their next album, which may motivate fans to keep voting. This matchup will most likely be another nail-biter. West The Wanted vs. Big Time Rush : Rushers are making their presence known in this competition as they helped their group, Big Time Rush, overpower R&B chart-toppers Boyz II Men . Things should get very interesting now as BTR take on the Wanted: The Brit newcomers fought to the death in the last round, barely making it by the Monkees, so be ready for another down-to-the-wire clash for this pair of relatively new boy bands. South One Direction vs. Mindless Behavior : This should be a fight to the finish with fans of both groups casting votes like crazy. Mindless had a big win over NKOTBSB and they hope to carry that momentum into the Elite Eight. But 1D fans have also been voting furiously, giving One Direction relatively easy wins over their competition thus far. Voting for the Elite Eight in MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands runs until noon ET on Wednesday, May 2. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite band made the cut, make sure you keep voting. Tune in to AMTV and MTV Hits for their boy-band video takeovers each day and make sure to spread the word on Twitter using the hashtag #BBB and like us on Facebook for updates! Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Battle of the Boy Bands interactive bracket!
