National Park Service Awards $8.6M to HBCUs for Preservation Projects https://t.co/1U3qithspS #HBCU #HBCUnews — HBCU Lifestyle (@HBCU_Lifestyle) September 10, 2018 The grants—which total $8.6 million—will be put towards the revitalization of structures as well as projects that are relative to preservation, the news outlet writes. The grant money was provided through the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund. Amongst the HBCUs selected for the grants are Howard University, Clark Atlanta University, Hampton University, Virginia State University, Delaware State University and others. “HBCUs have played an important role in our country’s pursuit of equality, civil rights, and higher education for all Americans,” National Park Service Deputy Director P. Daniel Smith said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “These grants will help restore and enhance landmark buildings that are a source of pride on campuses in nine states.” Howard University plans on using the grant to upgrade their Founders Library. There has been a concerted effort to involve HBCUs in preserving Black sites across the country. In July, a program dubbed “Preservation in Practice” was created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the National Park Service and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation as an avenue to empower students at historically Black colleges and universities to pursue careers in historic preservation. The Power Of You Teens Teaches Black Girls The Importance Of Self-Confidence

Read more from the original source:

C oming of age as a young woman of color comes with several obstacles for many. Many Black and brown girls across the country are disproportionately impacted by poverty, education inequality, unjust treatment within their schools, sexual harassment at higher rates than other races and other problematic circumstances that negatively affect their daily lives. The Power of You Teens —a New York City-based non-profit organization—was created as an avenue to empower girls of color and show them that their circumstances don’t determine the heights that they can reach. Founded in 2014 by Felicia Gibson Jaycox , the organization was designed to help girls between the ages of 12 and 18 build a strong sense of self-esteem. POYT aims to nurture and empower the next generation’s leaders so that they are equipped to make an impact in their communities and beyond. The organization offers mentorship opportunities for girls where they are given guidance from women who are making moves in their respective fields and monthly group workshops that are designed to help girls cultivate a strong self-image, deal with anxiety, and learn how to set goals. POYT gives its participants the opportunity to pay it forward by participating in volunteer projects in their local communities. The program also exposes girls to arts education and STEM through workshops. Each year POYT hosts The Empowerment Experience in Harlem; a free day-long event that features inspirational speakers, workshops and seminars, information about higher education and different career paths, entertainment, and a marketplace. The purpose of the event is to inspire young girls to reach their full potential. This year’s theme is “The Future is Female.” “While girls of color have made progress in recent years, real challenges remain. We recognize powerful girls grow up to be secure and confident women setting the stage for their futures as innovative leaders,” Gibson Jaycox told NewsOne. “Our programs are designed to combat the negative influences many young women face. We want girls to be brave and walk boldly in their power. We want girls to be agents of change so they can make a positive impact in their community and the world.” The next The Power of You Teens Empowerment Experience is slated to take place on October 6 in Harlem, New York. It’s being hosted to coincide with the International Day of the Girl. Learn more about The Power of You Teens . Vince Herbert Hospitalized With Gout, Tamar Braxton Allegedly Has NO PLANS Of Calling Or Coming To Visit

David A. Walega/WireImage Vincent Herbert Hospitalized With Gout Despite still running around on dates and appearances with her ex-husband and lashing out at her own family over him despite their violent history just a few months ago… Tamar Braxton appears to be officially done with Vincent Herbert . According to TMZ , the industry exec is currently hospitalized with a case of gout in his elbow. For those unfamiliar with the condition, gout is type of arthritis caused by an excess buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints. It can be an excruciatingly painful experience for the patient and is often paired with extreme sensitivity and intense swelling. Apparently, Vince has been hospitalized since Thursday, and yet there has been no visit or even any contact from his estranged ex-wife Tamar. As you know, Tamar says she has moved on and is very much in love with a brand new boo and is looking to start a brand new forever with him, including more kids. So, it seems like she’s not too interested in offering any “get well soons” to her ex. Welp, when you’re done you’re done. Hopefully, Vince’s health improves and he gets better soon. Getty/WireImage

Aubrey O’Day Ass in Chaps of the Day

I have been ignoring these Aubrey O’Day comeback tour pics for the week…. That doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate Aubrey O’Day or her bringing back Danity Kane in an era of comebacks…because young people are morons and need remixes of things that were, rather than creating new…. I don’t know one Danity Kane song….but I guess people do and for that reason alone…they need a new album..like the Spice Girls if the Spice Girls never quite made it… I do remember it being a Diddy Show on MTV, who are struggling, where Aubrey fucked Diddy, and made a name for herself….before fucking a Don Jr Trump while doing the Apprentice…back when she was fat, before realizing how easy it is to troll instagram with angles, fillers, and being as hot as Aubrey O’Day is into her post Jersey Shore fucking revival… I’m a fan. Source: NEW YORK, NY – FEBRUARY 02: (L-R) Aritsts Ron Haywood Jones, Jason Seife, and Princess Smith look on as Swizz Beatz and Marketing Director at Canon USA Michelle Fernandez celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Canon EOS Rebel SLR Camera with Rebel With A Cause to showcase #TheUnknowns on February 2, 2016 in New York City. (Photo by Cindy Ord/Getty Images for Canon) For the last couple of months Swizz Beatz  has been teasing his upcoming project. He recently shared the cover and confirmed the first single will be soon to follow.  Since July the multi-platinum producer has been flooding his Instagram account with posts promoting his second studio album. By the sounds of the snippets, the One Man Band Man might be sitting on his best work to date. For his birthday, September 13, Swizz unveiled the creative for  Poison . Besides an expected marriage of deadly bars and beats he explained a deeper meaning to the title. “ #POISON  official album artwork done by  @cleonpeterson  its titled END OF EMPIRE .. End of empire is about upending the system, taking power back from the corrupt and fighting for justice.  #POISON  = POISE ON !! Let the Madness begin ”. Along with rolling out the creative he also confirmed the lead track from the project “Pistol On My Side”. Featuring Lil Wayne, we get a small taste of Dean’s signature booming sounds with a couple of punchlines from Weezy via a 34 second sample. While he has yet to confirm a formal release date for  Poison,  Swizz announced that preorders for the album will start tonight to coincide with audio and video of “Pistol On My Side” dropping at midnight. Per his social media it looks like Kendrick Lamar, The Lox, Jim Jones, Pusha T, Young Thug and 2 Chainz will also make the cut. Let’s hope the LP matches the hype and the Nas album, solely produced by Swizz and RZA is the follow up. Via  Hot New Hip Hop Photo: WENN.com

Bossip on WETV Recap: Hat-Fishing Men Get Put On Blast

Source: Michael Loccisano / Getty The Bossip crew on tonight’s episode of Bossip on WETV pulled no punches, as usual when discussing major pop culture events of the week. Kym Whitley, Tami Roman, and Joseline Hernandez join tonight’s episode to get in on the smack talk. The first few topics up for discussion are Serena Williams’ match against Naomi Osaka. As we all know, Williams went off on the umpire for accusing her of cheating. That’s obviously a wtf! No athlete, especially one as good as Williams would ever want to hear such a blasphemous statement made about their playing skills so she rightfully went off. Tuh! via GIPHY Next, the crew weighs in on the new Miss America, Nia Imani Franklin. The 25-year-old multi-talented beauty was recently crowned in what was the first Miss America since the organization did away with the swimsuit competition. It’s Miss America 2.0, who can be mad at that? Some people can, but I’m not. Kym Whitley is the first guest to join the squad to discuss her new book, a novel entitled, The Delusion of Cinderella , and her time on Braxton Family Values helping Traci come up with some storylines outside of her sisters since they ditched her. It’s a cool vibe as they break down Chris Brown’s child support drama, Nicki Minaj vs. Cardi B’s beef situation, and the rumored Faith Evans vs. Mary J. Blige NYFW fight. The latter never actually happened, but it did inspire the Bossip version, which was cougar fights they’d like to see. They want to see Kris Jenner vs Caitlyn, Cicely Tyson against anyone (lordt), Madea and Mo’Nique, but Kym pointed out that, that technically already happened. It’s all just jokes people, but let us pray. Joseline Hernandez joins the convo via video chat to add nothing we don’t already know about the Nicki vs. Cardi situation, but she does offer that no one better mess with her. via GIPHY Tami Roman joins the group for a quick kiki and she discusses how people don’t often get to see her softer side on Basketball Wives because “they want people to be specific characters.” She’s a character alright! Anyway, she and Reggie still aren’t getting married and in case you didn’t know, the Bonnet Chronicles is the result of people on Basketball Wives talking smack about her. via GIPHY Finally, the episode concludes with gems only Bossip can deliver — Hat-fish offenders. Hat-fish is a term for big headed men who are fine when they have their hats on, but…you get it. Ne-Yo, Plies, and Young Jeezy are a few members of the hat-fish squad. Then, play cousin Marcellas Reynolds stops by to discuss NYFW lewks and finally, the episode winds down with the reminder that the Braxton Sisters plus Mama Braxton, will be back on Braxton Family Values next week and Iyanla Vanzant is going to read Tamar (and probably all of them) for filth.
