Though many of us continue to have gripes with whoever the academy chooses to win certain awards, one thing that most of us agree to look forward to is the one-of-a-kind performances. From A Tribe Called Quest’s memorable performance at last year’s award show to Beyonce’s beautiful performance with her twin-filled baby bump on display, there’s always something for people to talk about for the following few days. This year will be no different, and the first wave of performances were just announced. Among the performers for this year’s festivities are Childish Gambino –and this year will be the rapper’s first time performing at the GRAMMYs! Along with his debut performance includes others from fellow nominees Lady Gaga , Little Big Town , and Pink . Of course, more announcements on who will be performing this year will be coming some time within the next few weeks. I’ve been saying it’s Training Day — a gritty L.A. cop drama, the darkness and handheld grittiness — meets Lord of the Rings. Not all Hollywood legends are movie stars. Some are living legends who walk the streets of West Hollywood, dressed as Jesus. Sadly, Kevin Short, the man known as Hollywood Jesus in L.A. and beyond, has passed away. He was 57 years old, and he is mourned by friends and also by complete strangers whose lives he touched. Have you ever heard the Aerosmith song, “Street Jesus,” by any chance? That’s about Hollywood Jesus. He’s also been featured in Lana Del Rey’s music videos. Most often, though, he’s been photographed by and with people walking the streets of West Hollywood. New York has the Naked Cowboy. Hollywood has its share of colorful characters who have become cultural fixtures, but Hollywood Jesus stood above the rest. Sadly, though the world is only now learning this news, Kevin Short (whose name has also been reported as Kevin Lee Light) passed away on December 13th. TMZ reports that he was hospitalized briefly for pulmonary issues beforehand, but unfortunately did not make it. After years as a cultural mainstay up and down Hollywood Boulevard, his death has grieved many who knew, met, or simply knew of him. Many of whom were celebrities. But really, anyone who works and lives in or around Hollywood has some awareness of the man. Those who had met him have taken to social media today to eulogize him: “Rest In Peace…I enjoyed meeting you #HollywoodJesus” Those who knew him best, of course, miss him most: “We all loved Kevin aka Jesus. Such a great guy. Beyond generous and supportive of all the comedians. He was part of The Comedy Store & Los Angeles. He walked almost everywhere, but I always gave him a ride home. I’ll miss him. Our last photo… RiP good friend.” That last photo is this one: Some tried to blend sadness with levity. Normally, we’d question whether that’s tasteful. But maybe that’s just what Hollywood Jesus would have wanted. “# of Jesus deaths under Obama: 0” That’s … that’s fair. “Going to give it three days before i mourn the loss of hollywood jesus.” Honestly, we thought of that joke but kept it to ourselves. From Plastic Martyr to Perez Hilton to Jared Leto, Hollywood Jesus was a frequent companion for selfies and other photos for people with a lot of name recognition. And, as we said, he was even a source of inspiration for some well known musical artists. He also reportedly gave fantastic backrubs. Kevin will always be loved, but now he will be missed. When it comes to showing off her cleavage, it’s clear Demi Lovato has no issue. Seriously, no… issue… at… all . But the artist makes it clear in a new Instagram caption that she does sometimes feel self-conscious about a different body part. On Thursday, the 25-year-old singer opened up about the ongoing challenges of recovering from an eating disorder, along with the constant feelings of doubt she often has about her appearance. But which she is trying her hardest to overcome. Along with the following picture, Lovato wrote this caption: “So, I’m insecure about my legs in this picture but I’m posting it because I look so happy and this year I’ve decided I’m letting go of my perfectionism and embracing freedom from self criticism.” Lovato, of course, has long been very candid about her past struggle with a drug addiction and also with anorexia. She’s come a long way. But her battle will never really be over. Continued Lovato in her latest inspiring message: “Learning to love my body the way it is is challenging but life changing. “Giving up my eating disorder has been the most challenging journey of my life but I work every day towards solid recovery even if I mess up sometimes.” In conclusion: “Today I’m feeling strong. You all can do it too. It IS possible. Thank you God for this new chapter in my life. #EDrecovery #happyAF.” We’ve long admired Demi not just for overcoming her own demons, but for speaking out so often about them in an attempt to help others as well. In October, for instance, Lovato shared a couple before-and-after photos that made it apparent just how well she is doing these days. The singer also admits to having bipolar disorder, but she doesn’t want to be defined by it. She said the following three months ago in the documentary Simply Complicated, discussing her eating disorder: “I don’t want to give it the power that it controls my every thought but it’s something that I’m constantly thinking about. “Body image, what I wish I could be eating, what I wish I could be eating next, what I wish I didn’t eat, you know it’s just constant. “I get envious towards people who don’t struggle with an eating disorder because I think my life would be so much easier.” We continue to wish Lovato the best. If you follow The Bachelor Spoilers , you have a pretty good idea of how this season is going to end. But what will be next for Arie and his new love? Arie’s former bestie Jef Holm is betting $5k that Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Bachelor relationship doesn’t last a year . Coming from a former friend, those are what you’d call fighting words . And Arie’s hitting back with some shade of his own. It doesn’t look like their feud is going away any time soon. Two days before the big announcement that he would be this season’s leading man, Arie Luyendyk Jr. dumped his girlfriend to become The Bachelor . That didn’t sit too well with some people. Because it made him seem hungry to build his brand rather than to find love, but also because it grossed some people out. His ex was, after all, a real person. With feelings. Jef Holm was more than happy to add fuel to the Arie-hating fire, saying of his former friend: “I stopped being friends with him years ago because he’s disgusting.” Holm then teased: “Oh, the stories I could tell….” And now, during the premiere of Arie’s season, Jef Holm has tweeted out an offer: “Doesn’t matter who gets out of the limo…I’ll give 5k to the charity of @chrisbharrison’s choice if @ariejr lasts 1 year with anyone.” That is perhaps the most vicious offer of charity that we’ve ever seen on Twitter. Arie Luyendyk Jr. responded, telling Access Hollywood : “[He’s] throwing a lot of shade, but we haven’t talked in four years since Sean [Lowe’s] wedding.” Arie’s response continues: “I have no clue [why Jef is bitter]. That’s kind of a question for him more than me.” Arie also says that Jef Holm “would have lost his own bet, I guess.” Ouch . Overall, Arie’s trying to be as dismissive as possible towards Jef without, you know, painting himself as the bad guy. “I have so much to concentrate on with this and I’m just trying to stay positive.” He also has a line that’s a bit tone-deaf for a guy sometimes believed to be selfish and egotistical: “I’m just concentrating on me.” Chris Bukowski had told Life & Style : “Obviously, he and Arie were like best friends and they’re no longer. They’re not friends” Bukowski, of course, had also made it into the Final Four. So he would know. “I don’t know the whole story because they were best friends and then they ended up hating each other.” We’d all like to know what exactly led Jef Holm to believe that Arie was “disgusting.” “Arie definitely has a better relationship with the show, the producers, than Jef does.” Clearly, since Arie is now playing the titular role on The Bachelor . “So, I don’t know if Jef is [now] reaching to sort of [stay relevant], but at the same time, it’s like Arie’s time.” We’d all love to know. If producers are really that fond of Arie, maybe they won’t be eager to give Jef Holm a platform. Or, maybe — when the season’s over — they’ll invite Jef Holm to speak his mind about Arie. We would be eager to hear what Holm has to say. Isn’t everyone? It may be that Arie’s fiancee will wish that she’d heard Holm’s take on Arie before she accepted his ring. T he Bartow County and Georgia NAACP branches launched a civil rights investigation on Wednesday into alleged police violations in the arrest of 70 people at a house party in Cartersville, Georgia. The teens and young adults now have arrest records on the charge of allegedly possessing less than 1 ounce of marijuana. Griggs , chair of the Georgia NAACP Criminal Justice Committee. Police said they found less than an ounce of marijuana at a house party Saturday night & since no one claimed it, they arrested 70ppl for it. Some just got out today. Cops entered the home without a warrant after smelling marijuana in the front yard, a witness told the news outlet. When no one admitted to ownership of the small amount of the drug they discovered, the police arrested everyone. The police later found two stolen guns and other drugs after obtaining a warrant, the police department stated. The NAACP suspects that the police may have conducted an unlawful search of individuals and the property, which was rented for the party. All of those arrested could not have possessed the same small amount of marijuana, the organization stated. Considering the “changing cultural sentiment” about weed, a simple citation and release would have been more appropriate than arrests. “This is classic police harassment and intimidation,” tweeted Kristen Clarke , president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Many of the partygoers complained about mistreatment from the police, including getting tied up with zip ties and threatened with tasers. Many of them also spent multiple days in jail. A GoFundMe campaign to help with bail and legal fees seeks to raise $15,000. They’ve been dubbed the “Cartersville 70,” which connects them to the long list of Black bodies unjustly arrested, such as the Central Park 5. The campaign noted that a majority of those arrest were college students, military members home for the holidays and hardworking people who could lose their job. The cast of The Real just got word that they’ll be happily employed until 2020, with the showed being renewed for two more seasons. According to deadline, The Daytime Emmy-nominated series not only did well in viewership but they had more than 12 million social actions last season and on is on pace to eclipse that number midway through this season. In addition, The Real has the youngest average age of all talk shows in syndication, at 51. Tamera expressed her joy in a post about the news. “God is good.” Jeannie also thanked fans for the overwhelming support. Meanwhile, Loni is just trying to get that first pay period pay check….
