We were introduced to Towanda Braxton via “Braxton Family Values,” a reality show showcasing songstress Toni Braxton and her four sisters who have proven to be closer than a tight knitted scarf. Trina, Towanda, Tamar, Toni and Tracey, let us into their lives filled of real world problems such as: relationship woes, family issues and the hunger for stardom. Each sister is different and as we have come to see, Towanda is the peacemaker between all the ladies. We spoke to the wife and mother of two about her troubled marriage, sister Toni’s health and some girly hair care tips we can file in our “good to know” box! HB: How’s your family doing? last time we checked you were living with Trina. We’re still out to lunch. It’s like I’m still trying to figure it out with Andre. The basis of it all is that we are trying to be here for our children because that’s what matters. Our lives don’t matter anymore what matters is the welfare of children, so we are trying to figure it out for them. HB: Has your sister Trina’s relationship improved in your eyes? They are definitely communicating better, I think one time I said even on the show that when you have a another family in your household it forces you to use your words and talk to each other and not at each other. They were arguing at each other. I guess by me and my family being there it did kind of help their relationship. HB: What advice do you give to another woman who is in the same position as you and your husband? I usually say if its fixable than try to fix it. You have to try and exasperate all of your options. That’s what I’m trying to do and I’m the type of person that doesn’t like to give up and marriage isn’t easy! Unless he’s beating your head in, it’s fixable and it depends on what your breaking point is. Some women’s breaking point is cheating… My breaking point is someone bashing my head in. You ain’t gon’ bash me in my head! HB: You come across as the peacemaker, which sister is the hardest to deal with? T-A-M-A-R…she is the baby, we have spoiled her rotten and we’ve allowed her to get away with so much. and now we’re like wait a minute, we have children we cant do this anymore, our children are watching. Now it’s time for everyone to set boundaries. HB: Tamar & Vince are getting their own show, your feelings about it? Im excited for Tamar and Vince, I can’t wait to see it because it’s going to be a different dynamic. Tamar is one way with her sisters and another way with Vince. So I think it’s another side of her everyone will see. She’s a bit shy as-a-matter-of -fact when she meets other people. Around us she can be herself but around other people she’s a little shy. HB: Is Vince doing OK? he was reportedly sick … He’s good, he’s at home now! HB: How’s Toni doing? she was recently admitted into the hospital. She’s good, whenever she has a small flare she likes to go to the hospital get some tests and it’s good to do that before she gets a full flare-up. Lupus attacks anything, it makes you fatigue. This is how she describes it ‘It’s like having the worst flu of your life,’ your body aches, you can’t get out of bed, you don’t want to do anything. That’s basically how it is with a full flare-up. HB: What was your reaction when you first found out about her Lupus? Since I was working with Toni, I was kind of privy to a lot of little things. My thing was, of course I was sad, I tried to look at the silver lining, like at least it isn’t attacking your main organs like your heart meaning that she could have a heart-attack at anytime. Since you’ve been liberated of your personal assistant duties, how has life been? I don’t know quite how to act! All this time on my hands. I’ve been doing acting clases with Terry Vaughn. I went on an audition and I got the part! To be honest, i don’t know about this part though. It’s in a play. I think in a few years I will have an Emmy award and an Oscar! HB: Growing up, what was one thing you mother always taught you? That there’s no one greater than you than god! HB: How do you maintain your tresses? I caught a lot of flack for wearing pig tails, let’s be honest first season you don’t get a huge budget so you kind of have to figure it out yourself. I use a lot of mousse and black gel, the pro gel– keep them edges down. I wear weaves, lots of weaves…underneath I’m natural. I was always the girl that never wanted to go natural, My hair is very soft and fine so I have to be careful how much heat I put on my hair. Weaves are great for me all of my hair is braiding underneath . 5 Quick Questions: What’s in your bag? Lipgloss and my wallet. Boxers or Briefs: Boxers Last time you cried: When my mother in law passed in 2007 Bags vs. Shoes? That’s hard [long pause]shoes… If you had to get a tattoo at gunpoint what would it be? Droopy! On last night’s episode of “Braxton Family Values” we learned exactly what an “oral transaction” was but since we’re a family site, I’ll leave that definition up to your imagination. After hearing about Gabe’s infidelity towards Trina on last season, it’s surprising to hear that Trina has been dipping outside of her marriage too. She confesses to Tamar and Towanda that she recently had an “oral” transaction with one of the members in her band. However, she also confesses that it only went one way. When Tamar finds this small detail out, she doesn’t let it go! “But he at least shoulda ate the pie in order for him to get to the cream, Trina!” Tamar says. (Aaaamen sista, Tamar!) The girls convince Trina not to tell the truth to Gabe especially since he’s already paranoid about her whereabouts and already suspects that she’s stepped out on their marriage. Trina agrees, but that doesn’t stop her from spilling the beans to the whole family. When the girls meet up to have dinner with Mama Ev, a tipsy Trina spills it all! “I sucked on a ****! I sure did, and I liked it, and I enjoyed it! Excuse me, Mommy, I’m sorry. But you know what? I tasted it, I sucked it, and I liked it. It was a payback like a ****” YIKES!! A few days later, Trina and Gabe decide to go to therapy where Trina admits to her cheating, despite the warning from her sisters. Gabe, of course, feels betrayed and their therapist tells them that they need to reevaluate their marriage. (YA THINK?!) What do you think about Trina cheating on Gabe??? On this episode of “Braxton Family Values”, we get to see Tamar’s first recording session with Harvey. After searching for a song that she thinks will be right for her, she stumbles across a track with Lil Wayne rapping on it and decides that BOOM! this was the right track for her. Tamar calls her sound something like “hood rat pop” and doesn’t want any of that “Jersey Shore fist pumping music”. I’m sure you catch my drift, right? She knows that her hubby Vince isn’t going to be pleased with her song selection, but she’s hopeful that he will make her the “happiest princess in the pond” and let her do her own thing when it comes to her record. I ain’t mad at ya, Tamar! Meanwhile in LA, Toni calls an emergency meeting for her whole family, including her mother and father, because she has a huge announcement to make. The other girls are a little worried considering the urgency of Toni’s meeting and the fact that Towanda know’s Toni’s big announcement and is not spilling the beans to the rest of the girls. During Toni’s big meeting, she reveals that she has to have surgery- the next day! The girls are a little shaken up, shocked and scared at Toni’s news, but she assures them that she’ll be just fine. When the day comes for Toni’s big surgery, she has her whole family by her side, including her ex husband, Kerri. She comes through her surgery successfully, and although the girls are happy that Toni is alright, they are more focused on the fact that their mother and father are actually getting along during this time! Say what! Papa Braxton jokes that the girls though he and his ex-wife went on a date when they went to the cafeteria in the hospital together. But it is great to see them two getting along great especially considering what happened during their last face to face meeting.. Back in Atlanta, Towanda’s husband, Andre, has finally finished his book and is preparing for a book signing. Towanda was unsure if she would be able to attend the book signing because of the issues Toni was having with her surgery, but luckily she showed up to the book signing and was very proud of him for his efforts. But let’s be real, Andre still aint got no job. What did you think about this week’s episode? Say what!? Mama Ev is dating someone?!! Last night on the “Braxtons Family Values”, the girls found out that their mom was jumping back in the dating game! Towanda and Trina grill their mom until she finally agrees to go on a double date with Trina and her husband. While on their double date, Mama Ev and her new man reveal that they are quite serious, but later in the episode she mentions that they have decided to take a break. You go Mama Ev!! Meanwhile back in L.A, Toni asks her sister Traci to sing backup for her for an upcoming gig and asks Tamar to help teach her the dance steps since it’s been a while since Traci performed with her sisters. Toni has to remind Tamar to be patient while teaching Traci because as you know, Traci tends to be sensitive and Tamar can be quite the handful. Trina tells her sisters that she’s met cute author/actor, Hill Harper, on a plane and she has him call Towanda because they know that she has a crush on him (I mean who doesn’t..lol). The girls suggest that Towanda ask him to help her with her acting career and she realizes that the only way to get her career really started is to hire an agent. When it’s time for Toni’s show, Traci gets very nervous because it’s been so long since she’s performed with her sister and she has been begging her for an opportunity for years now and she doesn’t want to mess up. With the new season premiering tonight on WeTV, I had to catch up with our girl, Trina Braxton, and chat about what to expect this season. Take a look at my exclusive interview where we talk about her drinking “situation”, direction her marriage is going in, status on Tamar’s husband and being compared to the Kardashians. HelloBeautifu l: What can we expect to see this season? Trina Braxton: This season is crazy! It’s like season one amped up on super steroids! You get a glimpse of everybody’s life on this season. You’ll get to understand why I started drinking and why I gained so much weight. You’ll get to see my marriage issues play out. It’s basically an extension of season one. HB: Since you brought up your drinking “situation”, why did u start drinking so much in the first place? Trina Braxton: Well it was mainly because of what was going on in my relationship with Gabe. On this season, you’ll get to see where Gabe and I are going in our relationship. HB: Whats going on with the Braxton family album? Trina Braxton : You know, we’re still trying to figure that out. We’re actually still in the process of filming season two so we’re still trying to figure everything out! HB: So, how does that work: filming a season as it’s already premiering on the network? Trina Braxton: You’re getting everything as it’s really unfolding. It’s unscripted reality- and not that there is anything wrong with scripted reality. We’re going to keep it raw and true to the minute. You won’t see us fighting or anything. HB: We saw the sneak peak of Tamar getting put in her place by Mama Ev! Is this something that happens regularly whenever your baby sister gets out of line? Trina Braxton: The crazy thing is that we haven’t seen that episode yet so we’re watching it at the same time you all are! I will say that Mama does NOT play and if she feels like anybody disrespects her whether it be me, Tamar, Towanda, Traci or Toni or whoever, she’ll let them know! HB: I know that you are super close with all of your sisters, but is there one sister that you would consider your best friend over the rest? Trina Braxton : Like you said, we’re all each others best friends. We’re all extremely close but we do go through seasons and situations in our lives that bring us closer together. Like right now, Towanda and her children were staying with me for a while as you saw on the show so I would say that we’ve gotten extremely close over the past months. HB: How does the Braxton family maintain such a positive reputation in the media? Trina Braxton: Now, we are girls first and we are sisters so of course we argue and fuss and we know how to push each other’s buttons. But we also know how to build each other up. That comes with true sisterhood. We know how to make each other go “rawr rawr like a dungeon dragon” but we know what it takes to make each other happy and make each other smile. HB: How do you respond to people who compare you to the Kardashian clan? Trina Braxton: The thing is, you can’t look at them without looking at us too. There are a lot of similarities. We’re a family of girls, we have the same initials, we come from strict Christian backgrounds. Our show is about family and togetherness-and this is not to bash the Kardashian family in anyway- but our show isn’t about creating a brand, it’s about focusing on family and what happens in the day to day lives between sisters. Toni has always been a star, but you have never seen this side of her. You never saw what she was going through when she filed for bankruptcy , you never knew she was sick. There is a realness to this show that you can identify with and I think that everyone that watches has a sister that they can identify with. HB: Are you working on any solo projects? Trina Braxton: I am in the band. This season the band is doing some extra things and I am so excited because I am branching out and doing my own band. We have some tricks up our sleeves! Kyla Pratt recently dropped a bomb on national television.
