Don’t let the do’ knob hit ya where the good Lord split ya According to ESPN Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike Brown has been fired after a 1-4 start to the season, a source tells ESPNLosAngeles.com’s Ramona Shelburne. It is not known yet who will take over for him, but a source indicated to Shelburne that one of assistant coaches Bernie Bickerstaff or Chuck Person will take over on an interim basis. Earlier Friday, sources had told ESPN.com’s Marc Stein that the team was using its upcoming six-game homestand to evaluate Brown, but after numerous discussions over the past 48 hours, Lakers management came to a unanimous decision that the team wasn’t heading in the right direction. The Lakers have had a healthy Steve Nash in the lineup for only 1½ of their five games so far thanks to a leg injury, while fellow newcomer Dwight Howard has acknowledged that he’s still recovering from the back surgery that brought a premature end to his 2011-12 campaign and knocked him out of the London Olympics. Kobe Bryant has also been playing through a foot ailment. The Lakers are off to the worst start in the Western Conference despite carrying the league’s largest payroll at just over $100 million, which would trigger an estimated luxury-tax bill at season’s end of nearly $30 million. New York Man Sues Church For $3 Million Over Amputated Leg Via ABCNews After Delia Jimenez was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008, her husband, David, often prayed before a large stone crucifix outside St. Patrick’s Church in Newburgh, N.Y. Devout Catholics, the couple credited Delia Jimenez’s recovery in 2010 to her husband’s fervent praying. They were so grateful that his wife asked the parish priest, Blady Socualaya, if her husband could clean the cross to show his gratitude. He said yes. On Memorial Day of the year of his wife’s recovery, Jimenez began to scrub the 600-pound marble crucifix when it became unhinged, toppled on him and crushed his right leg, his lawyer, Kevin Kitson, told ABC News. He was rushed to Westchester Medical Center, where his leg had been so badly mangled it had to be amputated. Jimenez, a Mexican immigrant, spent more than a month in the hospital, ratcheting up hundreds of thousands in medical bills. Kitson told ABC News that Jimenez had no health insurance and that the bills were paid by charitable trusts. According to Kitson, the statue had been inadequately anchored to the base. ”Somebody should have said, ‘Don’t go climbing up there, because we don’t know if it’s safe.’” Since losing his leg, Jimenez, a 45-year-old father of three who worked at a bakery and pizzeria, has been unable to work. Although the parishioners collected $7,700 worth of donations for his family, the Archdiocese of New York’s insurance company, Catholic Mutual Group, declined to offer Jimenez any kind of settlement, Kitson said. Catholic Mutual did not respond to calls from ABC News, but Frank Raia, a lawyer with Rivkin Radler, which represents St. Patrick’s Church, told ABC News that “The Archdiocese of New York and St. Patrick’s Church understand and recognize that this was a terrible accident. However, it is their position that they are not liable for the happening of the accident.” Jimenez has filed a $3 million negligence lawsuit against the Archdiocese. Earlier this week, former BBW resident ratchetista Evelyn Lozada opted to let the no-contact restraining order placed on her ex-headbutting hubby Chad Johnson expire when he head back to court in a couple of months, which means that he would be legally allowed to resume contact with her and possible be let off of probation. Sources close to Evelyn were quick to claim that despite her wishes to allow the order to expire, she’s not looking to reunite and just wants to “move on” from it all. Well, Chad may have just f’d up his non-existent chances of having the order removed by doing what he does best…attention-sloring it up on twitter. We couldn’t make this fawkery up if we tried… Three White New York High School Students Reenact Chris Brown-Rihanna Beating In Blackface Via CNN iReport At the most resent Pep Rally for Waverly High School, located in Waverly NY, the usual fanfare of cheering for the home team to get them ready was in full swing. As the rally progressed you had your usual cheers and rally cries for the fall sports teams and the football team. It seemed to have done well, with Waverly defeating their opponent 70-21. But what happened at that pep rally went much farther than simple cheers. Three white students were to perform a skit in black face, depicting Chris Brown and Rhianna most notibly. In this skit they would display acts of domestic violence as satire to an audience that included not only students but parents, faculty, and various members of the media and community leaders. None of them stopped the skit. Now former students of Waverly High School are questioning how this was allowed to happen.” I think it’s unconscionable that such blatant racism has been tacitly approved two years in a row,” says Waverly alumni and Yale graduate Vlad Chituc. “The administration should be creating an environment where minorities are welcome, not the butts of racist jokes that make light of domestic violence.” Fellow former Waverly student Hannah Van Wie-Desisti shared sentiments with her former schoolmate: “I used to be so proud of where I came from. Not so much now due to the recent incident. I found it unfathomable that the faculty would not only approve this idea for the skit in the first place, but allow it to go on during the pep rally. I honestly don’t believe that the students meant to offend, but were just ill informed of how offending their skit actually was. The staff should have stopped it before it even started. By acting like the skit was acceptable, they are teaching their students that racism is okay and that abuse is humorous. The whole thing outraged me and made me so disappointed in the school that I was once loved.” The offensive nature of what took place is made even more concerning know that in order for a skit to take place at the rally it had to be OK’ed by the administration of the school. A comment from the school district was not available at this time. Anyone that saw Rihanna’s face after the fact knows that there is nothing to laugh at, and to reenact the skit in blackface is just the racist cherry on top. Woman Who Put Lover On Blast Via Billboard Makes Movie About Affair Via NY Daily News reports: Charles Phillips, the former president of Oracle Corp. and a member of President Obama’s Economic Advisory Board, sent the Harlem International Film Festival a cease-and-desist letter this week trying to block Thursday’s premiere of “The Glamorous Lie,” a documentary by his ex-mistress YaVaughnie Wilkins. Wilkins, who in 2010 vindictively plastered shots of her and Phillips on pricey billboards in Times Square, Atlanta and San Francisco after their 81/2-year relationship ended, didn’t let the letter scare her. Neither did the Harlem Film Festival. Nasri Zacharia, a festival spokesman, says the staff for the tiny, 100-person Maysles Cinema, set to screen the film at 7 p.m., was initially worried because the still-married Phillips’ lawyers also targeted the theater. “We were on hold for a while, and the theater where we are screening the world premiere was concerned, but we managed to alleviate the problems,” says Zacharia. He says Wilkins agreed to take responsibility for all liability and is “standing behind the film.” Wilkins tells Confidenti@l that her ex-beau’s “cease-and-desist letter is saying it’s an unauthorized documentary, but my lawyers are countering that he’s a public figure and I have a right to tell my story.” Wilkins is also in a civil court battle with the film’s director, who she claims is now in cahoots with Phillips. Her ex, she said, tried to buy the documentary to kill it. “If Charles thinks there is something in there that misrepresents our relationship, then he should do his own documentary and tell his own story,” says Wilkins. A spokesman for Phillips, who is now the CEO of software company Infor, did not respond to a request for comment. But back when he was the butt of Wilkins’ rage after he decided to reconcile with wife Karen, he said this: “I had an 81/2-year serious relationship with YaVaughnie Wilkins … The relationship with Ms. Wilkins has since ended and we both wish each other well.” Cry him a damn river… You do the crime, you pay the time, over and over again apparently. Bye, bye baby.. Chad Johnson And Evelyn Lozada Are Officially Divorced The rollercoaster ride that was Chad Johnson and Evelyn Lozada has officially ended. TMZ is reporting that their divorce was finalized early this morning after a judge in Florida signed off on the divorce papers. The bitter head-butter was said to have been in serious denial that Ev was indeed ready to sign them papers and even went as far as to tattoo her face on his leg AFTER he learned that she was planning to giving him the boot. A botched reality show, a dwindling football career , and now a failed marriage all in a couple month’s time. It’s been a cruel summer for Ochostinko.
For the love of sports, grades were changed without authorization and an ongoing investigation had already caused the schools football program to be put on a three-year-long probation and was banned from 2012 postseason play by the NCAA. Thorp, who became chancellor in 2008, notified UNC President Tom Ross yesterday of his intent to resign on June 30, saying it was in the best interests of the university, the school said today in a statement on its website. The resignation follows the results of investigations that found academic misconduct and unauthorized grade-changing in the college’s Department of African and Afro-American Studies. In March, the school’s football program was put on three year’s probation and banned from 2012 postseason play by the National Collegiate Athletic Association for rules violations including academic fraud. “I have pledged that we will be a better university, and I am 100 percent confident in that,” Thorp said in the statement. “We still have work to do, and I intend to be fully engaged in that until the day I walk out of this office.” The NCAA imposed the sanctions after finding a number of rules violations. The college sports governing body found that a former UNC assistant coach was paid by a former sports agent for access to athletes, and a former tutor wrote parts of class assignments for three football players. The tutor also paid for athletes’ airplane tickets and parking fines, the NCAA said. UNC produced a report May 2 after conducting its own investigation of the allegations. Thorp has commissioned three more reviews, the school said in its statement. Those will look at the new academic procedures and controls implemented at the school; whether academic misconduct occurred before 2007; and the future relationship of academics and athletics at the university. UNC’s board has also questioned Thorp about the resignations of fundraisers Matt Kupec and Tami Hansbrough, the mother of former UNC basketball star Tyler Hansbrough, according to the Charlotte Observer. The two school officers, who were known to be dating, stepped down after they were found to have questionable travel expenses, the newspaper reported last week. Thorp may have had to step down from his post as Chancellor but don’t worry…his azz gets to stay on UNC’s payroll. You see, he used to be a professor, researcher, AND chairman in the chemistry department so homeboy is getting his old job back.
