Dancing With the Stars Producers Deny Bristol Palin Conspiracy at Work

The fact that Bristol Palin made it into the finals has a lot of people scratching their heads (or mailing white powder to the set). But it’s no conspiracy. “She deserves it,” Dancing With the Stars executive producer Conrad Green says. “A significant portion of our viewing audience believes that, too.” Week after week, as Bristol advances and superior talents like Audrina Patridge, Rick Fox, and Brandy have fallen, conspiracy theories have surfaced. DANCING FINALIST : Like it or not, Bristol Palin (with partner Mark Ballas) will be competing for the MirrorBall trophy in this week’s finals. Will she actually win it? Speculation has arisen about whether the Tea Party, which strongly supports her mom Sarah, is involved in an organized effort to promote Bristol. On one conservative Web site, Freerepublic (dot) com, some of the site’s 300,000 users have used discussion threads to encourage votes for Palin. Bristol Palin , that is. One asked users to “make liberal heads explode and vote for Bristol” Nov. 8 to advance her to the semifinals. That’s pretty much what happened. But Green insists , “There’s nothing in the voting system that looks at all strange.” He says that the entire process – text votes, call-in votes and email votes – “is all overseen by the Broadcast Standards team, independent of us and the network to make sure that everything is absolutely done scrupulously.” While some say the show’s credibility is in question after this year, Green says this isn’t the first time a less skilled dancer has made it this far. Of Bristol’s surprise run, he says, “You can argue whether or not she deserves to be there more than someone else who the judges have assigned to be a better dancer, but then make sure you vote for that person. It’s not rocket science.” He also notes that plans to change the system to give the judges’ scores more weight than audience votes are false, because that’s already in place. “Everyone is having a go at our system, but unlike American Idol, our professional judges count for half of the total for each couple each week, so there’s already a built-in attempt to make the dance quality matter,” Green says. “We set the rules down and this is the game and if this is how it turns out, then this is how it turns out. I think it’s absolutely fair.” What do you think? Does Bristol Palin deserve to be in the finals?

Jon Stewart Berates Media For Obsession With Palin Daughters: ‘Who Gives a S–t?’

Jon Stewart is finally flaunting some of that “sanity” we've heard so much about. On his show Wednesday night, he had a simple message for the legions of journalists obsessed with Sarah Palin's children: “Who gives a sh*t?” “Kids are off limits,” Stewart added. “In fact, we should all go out of our way to treat her children with kid gloves and respect to show that we don't judge individuals and mock them purely based on who their parents are.” “Stop making me feel sympathy for the Palins!” he begged – hysterically, I might add. “Stop it!” (Video below the break – h/t Charlie Spiering ) read more

Brandy Was ‘Very Sad’ About ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Elimination

‘I think Bristol did a great job,’ the singer says after controversial ‘DWTS’ results. By Jocelyn Vena Brandy appears on “The View” on Thursday Photo: ABC Many fans were shocked when Brandy was voted off “Dancing With the Stars” on Wednesday. Her elimination left Kyle Massey, Bristol Palin and Jennifer Grey in the top three as the show prepares to crown a winner next week. Asked how she felt about being eliminated, the singer took the high road but expressed some sadness. “Well, I think Bristol did a great job. She has improved [and] one of the great things about ‘Dancing With the Stars’ is the fans can get behind you and vote,” she said when she stopped by “The View” on Thursday (November 18). “I was sad. I was very sad because we worked so hard and when you come into competition you want to go as far as you can.” Brandy’s partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, didn’t get too heated about the elimination said he doesn’t believe Palin is a better dancer than Brandy. “I’m not ticked off,” Chmerkovskiy said. “I’m not ticked off because I feel everyone has the right to be on,” he added. “We had a lot of controversial eliminations this season. I feel like we should stay true to who we are now.” So does Maksim think he and Brandy were robbed? “Well, then a lot of people were robbed [over the years],” he said. Although Brandy isn’t taking home the mirror ball trophy, she said she has managed to win something else. “It’s completely changed my life,” she explained. “I feel like I’ve tapped back into my confidence and my power. This show has brought the best out in me [and] thanks to Maks.” She also had some predictions going into the final week of “DWTS.” “I don’t know who’s going to win but I know who I want to win … Kyle Massey,” she said. Partner Maks agreed saying, “I think Kyle is the best candidate.” What did you think of Brandy being voted off “DWTS”? Tell us in the comments! Bristol Palin Defends Willow Palin, Sort of Apologizes For Gay Slur

With 16-year-old Willow Palin catching some serious heat for calling an old classmate a f***ot on Facebook, older sister Bristol stepped up to apologize. “Willow and I shouldn’t have reacted to the negative comments about our family. We apologize,” Bristol Palin wrote on her Facebook wall. “On a nicer note, thank you for supporting the great competition in Dancing with the Stars!” Nice plug. Bristol Palin has her sister Willow’s back . A few hours later, B-Palin added: “Thank you supporters who continue to support. The haters are already pulling out all the stops this week to destroy.” Yes, there it is. The conspiracy angle. Some misguided defenders of the Palins have opined that using the word f—-t is only bad because it’s Willow. Bristol did not specifically mention Willow’s gay slur directed at Tre , some dude who supposedly went to their school, and who updated his Facebook page Sunday with, ” Sarah Palin’s Alaska is failing so hard right now.” Not to take this biting criticism of her mom’s show lightly, Willow retorted: “Haha your so gay. I have no idea who you are, But what I’ve seen pictures of, your disgusting … My sister had a kid and is still hot…Tre stfu. Your such a f—-t.” For her part, Bristol joined Willow in bashing Tre, writing: “You’re running your mouth just to talk s–t.” She also singled out some guy named “Jon,” writing: “You’ll be as successful as my baby daddy, And actually I do work my ass off.” “I’ve been a single mom for the last two years.” Willow has since deleted her Facebook account. Should we care what a teenager says? Is it any less bad because the word is common? The question remains … Is Willow Palin homophobic?

Bristol Palin Stays, Brandy Goes: ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Fans React

‘It’s not about talent, but a popularity contest,’ one MTV News commenter fumes. By Kara Warner Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Photo: ABC With every season of “Dancing with the Stars,” there are early favorites and front-runners and at least one shocking elimination. On Tuesday night, viewers got their shocker of the season (or second shock, if you’re an Audrina Patridge fan) when consistent high-scorer Brandy was eliminated . “People vote and their voices count,” Brandy’s partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy said after the elimination was announced. “I don’t regret a second … of being on this season. It’s been an amazing journey.” “I don’t know how I feel right now,” Brandy said, crying. The reactions to Brandy’s departure have been coming in fast and furious since the announcement. Most commenters took issue with the fact that Brandy is gone and Bristol Palin remains in the competition. “Brandy is so talented and she worked so hard. I was shocked she was eliminated!” Sharon wrote. “I thought the competition was really between her and Jennifer Grey. Bristol [Palin] has improved but she should have been off the show weeks ago. That was painful to watch — very painful!” “It’s just a silly dance contest,” John wrote. “This is a network television [show’s] dream to make millions watch their shows!!! Create animosity and sparks and make people angry over the winner to get more people watching and calling. You know they’re making money from all those AT&T calls … plus the ratings are through the roof with this political angle they’ve cashed in on,” he said, referring to the outcry that supporters of former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin are keeping Bristol on the show. “Bristol is no star and has no talent and should not have been picked for the finals over Brandy,” commenter Marianne fumed. “Brandy did beautifully and got better each week. I can’t believe Bristol’s scores were more than Brandy’s. This show is a hoax! It’s not about talent, but a popularity contest. If Bristol wins, I’ll never watch this show again!” Other complaints brought up problems with the telephone voting system for Brandy’s phone line. They claimed they couldn’t get through until time ran out. Despite all the anti-Palin sentiments, a few folks came to her defense, however. “I can’t believe how mean you people are, always picking on Bristol,” Barbara wrote. “No, she is not the best dancer but she has progressed from a wall flower to being a confident young lady because of DWTS. She has become a ‘good’ dancer. It has taken a lot of courage to go on this show. At least 2 countries can vote and as many Democrats are eligible to vote as Republicans. How do you figure it’s just the state of Alaska and Republicans voting?? It also has to do with personality and improvement. Brandy is a great dancer but she is a whiner and Maks is arrogant! Jennifer is a beautiful dancer and she has improved greatly. Give Bristol a break!!!!” What do you think of the elimination? Will Palin get voted off next week? Share your thoughts in the comments!
