Bristol Palin: Engaged to Levi Johnston!

Having recently rekindled their romance, Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are now engaged – and not just to bolster her mom’s poll numbers this time! “We got engaged two weeks ago,” the daughter of Sarah Palin tells Us Weekly . “It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents.” Bristol Palin is 19 and Levi Johnston is 20. They famously called off their previous engagement weeks after welcoming son Tripp in December 2008. After an icy period of estrangement, nasty accusations and PR wars, they reconnected a few months ago while working out custody plans for Tripp. “I really thought we were over,” Levi said. “So when I went, I had no hope. I think we both just started talking, and then we took Tripp for a walk.” Bristol and Levi now and during their previous fake engagement . She says when Levi Johnston left that night, “we didn’t hug or kiss, but I was thinking how different it was. He texted me: ‘I miss you. I love you.'” “‘I want to be with you again’ … I was in shock.” Perhaps the most amazing part, if you don’t believe this is being embellished to sell magazines of course, is that the former Republican Vice Presidential nominee has been kept in the dark about the youngsters’ plans … until now! Says Bristol: “It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be. Hopefully she will jump on board.” But will she? Sarah and Todd Palin said in a statement: “Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what’s best for our children. Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.” Sounds like a thumbs-up to us … or not? Either way, congratulations to the young couple. We’re happy for them … but still, we gotta ask … Will Bristol and Levi last this time?

Texas GOP: The New White Supremacist Party

The Texas republican party (ironically known as the Grand Old Party) has stooped to a new low, and I’m not talking about their removal of the slave trade from textbooks; it’s their new party platform. Now if you think erasing history is bad just wait until you hear what they want to do next. The Texas GOP’s 25 page platform of absurdity really pulls out all the stops, some of the details are so insane it almost seems like a script from the show Punked. The platforms section on Government power states that all executive orders are to be eliminated and all previous executive orders are to be repealed. The platform goes on to say, the Texas GOP opposes affirmative action and reparations based on “discriminatory criteria.” And the party is against nationalization of land for protecting endangered species or conservation. Just to clarify, they don’t want national parks or reservations for animals, they’d rather see a parking lot put up over saving a species. Now if the above does not seem all that bad to you, the platform goes on to include things that revert laws to the way things were run in the 1950′s south. Now unless you were born and raised in Texas, I’m sure you know what the Jim Crow laws are now the party’s platform is wanting to get some of those law’s passed again. The party supports the repeal of motor voter laws, re-registering voters every four years, and felon disenfranchisement. Another quick history lesson here, the U.S. constitution has a spot dedicated to the separation of church and state. Texas seems to think that it can just ignore the constitution and the Union of which it is a member. The Texas Republican party platform supports public displays of the ten commandments in government buildings and also enforcing penalties on people who “desecrate” the American flag, which falls under freedom of expression. To further target what the Republicans see as liberal or Democrat; they attack family values. It’s shocking to me that this party knows what family values are. According to the platform, the party seeks to ban homosexuality outright, and to it opposes the legalization of sodomy. Continuing down the path of the extreme the party wishes to make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple, or for a civil official to perform a same-sex marriage ceremony. Sticking with their support for male only values the party lists its strong disagreement with abortion rights, as well as being strongly opposed to female reproductive rights. Now if you are wanting to adopt a foster kid to bring into your family, the Texas GOP has something for you, they want to repeal the restrictions on corporal discipline for foster children, now you can beat the kid you want to adopt whose life hasn’t been hard enough already. Of course Texas knows what is right for your children as well so they will outlaw sex education in favor of abstinence only education, see my Bristol Palin post to see how well that works. The recently passed health care plan, or ObamaCare as they call it, would also be out, along with your social security checks. So after doing 50 years of work or more and paying into Social Security you would get nothing for your hard labor. Now the GOP is not out of gas yet, they go on to say that any regulations on gun control are out, so your friendly neighborhood felon can get his hands on one too!!! Since they are putting guns in everyone’s hands including rapists, they now want to make rape a death penalty crime. While the deep water horizon oil well continues to leak 60,000 barrels a day into the Gulf, the Texas GOP is turning a blind eye. They want deep water oil drilling in the Gulf to resume immediately. Furthermore, they feel that employers should be allowed to discriminate on any basis, as well as repealing minimum wage. The Texas GOP demands that the U.S. removes itself from the United Nations, and it also calls for a repeal of birthright citizenship unless its to an American, screw the fence just outlaw Mexican Americans. Like I said at first I thought this was a joke, but once you see the platform, you know they are dead serious. They feel that this is Americas true belief system and that Texas sets the standard for all conservatives. Now Texas is run by a Republican, Joe Barton. While this would be laughed out of any other Republican state, in Texas it actually has a chance. It’s frightening that a mainstream party can publish this garbage and get away with mocking the President. I should mention that Texas is the only state allowed to secede from the Union, so if this should ever pass we have the option to force them out. ABC’s Jeremy Hubbard Hints at Conspiracy: Did Palins ‘Get to’ Levi Johnston and Make Him Recant?

[Video to appear shortly] World News Now co-host Jeremy Hubbard on Wednesday didn’t accept the explanation that Levi Johnston has simply decided to apologize for his bad mouthing of the Palin family. The ABC anchor hinted at darker reasons: ” You know, I’m a cynic. Did the Palins get to him, do you think? ” (H/T to Creative Minority ) Discussing Johnston’s public apology in People magazine, Hubbard began, “Did they sit him down and-” He broke off and didn’t finish the thought. What was Hubbard implying? The answer went unsaid.   This isn’t the first time World News Now, an overnight program that airs at 3am, has gone after Palin. On February 20, 2010 , Hubbard downplayed an episode of Family Guy making fun of the former governor and Trig, her child with Down’s Syndrome. He minimized, “Although there has been criticism, some Down’s Syndrome advocates have given half-hearted praise to the cartoon for including a well-rounded character dealing with the disability, which leads Palin detractors to ask: Is she overreacting?” A transcript of the brief segment, which aired at 4:20am EDT, follows: VINITA NAIR: Let’s talk about Levi Johnston. He is talking and people are listening, still. He’s talking in People magazine. And this is actually really different from what we’ve heard in the past. He says after six months of bad-mouthing the entire Palin family, he’s apologizing and hoping to thaw his icy relationship with them. Here’s a quote: “After Bristol and I broke up, I was unhappy and a little angry. Unfortunately against my better judgment I publicly said things about the Palins that were completely not true.” He says he privately apologized to Sarah and hubby Todd but he didn’t mention how the two of them responded to all of this. But, keep in mind, he really sort of went on a tirade. He was on early morning shows saying, “I know huge things about her, things that could hurt her.” He also said there was talk of divorce between Sarah and Todd. But, now he’s saying, just kidding. JEREMY HUBBARD: You know, I’m a cynic. Did the Palins get to him, do you think? Did they sit him down and- Because there are rumors he and Bristol are back together. NAIR: Well, they did say they’re going to plan on co-parenting the baby together now. So they obviously have a working relationship if they’re willing to do that. HUBBARD: Wow, interesting. Didn’t see that development coming. NAIR: No, I did see the development of him continuing to talk coming though. HUBBARD: Wonder if he apologized for the Playgirl thing?

CBS Ignores Levi Johnston Admitting False Statements; Promoted Him in ’09

In an interview with People Magazine on Tuesday, Levi Johnston admitted: “I publicly said things about the Palins that were not completely true.” On Wednesday, the CBS Early Show failed to make any mention of the admission, despite having provided a media platform for Johnston last year by conducting exclusive interviews with him. On the April 8, 2009 broadcast , co-host Maggie Rodriguez conducted her first interview with Johnston, and introduced the segment by proclaiming: “He [Johnston], along with his mother and sister, sat down with me last night for an interview to clear up the ‘lies’ they say the Palins have been telling about them.” Rodriguez sympathized with the former boyfriend of Bristol Palin by wondering: “Did you get your heart broken?” During a September 3 segment on Johnston’s latest attack against the Palins, Rodriguez declared: “And shocking allegations that could shatter former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s conservative family image. If she chooses to believe what Levi Johnston is saying.” Rodriguez’s second interview with Johnston came weeks later on October 29 : “He is back on the offensive in this he-said-she-said battle that began shortly after the presidential election….he says he’s trying to show the world the real Levi.” In reaction to that interview, Sarah Palin called out the network for promoting Johnston: “CBS should be ashamed for continually providing a forum to propagate lies.” On the November 17 Early Show , Rodriguez touted an exclusive interview with Johnston on the CBS entertainment show, ‘The Insider’: “Levi Johnston says he is winning the war of words between Sarah Palin and him. We’ll hear from him.” Later, correspondent for The Insider, Chris Jacobs, declared: “Sarah Palin lashing out at Levi and now Levi fires back.”     In the Tuesday interview with People, after Johnston confessed to making false statements about the Palins, he added: “I owe it to the Palins to publicly apologize.” One wonders when CBS will offer a similar apology for so aggressively promoting Johnston, despite his lack of credibility. At the very least, the network should acknowledge the fact that he now recants past statements he made on their air.

The Trouble with Career Politicians

Politics was once an honored profession of high calling by men of strong principles and courage whose interest in being elected to these positions of public trust was to serve the country and make sure their generation left a better world to the next one. They were, for the most part, men of faith, men of integrity, commitment, practicality and common sense who viewed high political office as a term of service, not a lifetime vocation. They fought and won wars against far superior odds, battled economic downturns, abolished slavery and left us a rich endowment of federal papers documenting their vision of what the United States of America is and was meant to remain. It is a heartbreaking fact that nowadays politics has become not a calling but a game. Gaining public office is achieved by the most photogenic, the silver-tongued, the most attractive who look good on television and can raise the most money. We tend to pay more attention to the messenger than to the message, the one who can lie with the straightest face. Many times policy is achieved by backroom deals and downright sellouts. The leadership promising perks to make it look like Congressmen and Senators are bringing home the bacon to the folks back home to enhance their next election chances. They never stop to think about just whose bacon they’re sending and “by the people, for the people, of the people” has turned into, buy the people, fool the people and rob the people. And before any of you cherry pickers accuse me of taking sides, let me assure you that I’m talking about Democrats and Republicans. After all it was the Republicans who started this national debt spiral, the Democrats have just taken it to new and insane highs. Our founders did not design this system for career politicians, but rather citizen politicians who would serve a couple of terms and let someone fresh off the street serve, someone who is acquainted with what’s happening now, not twenty years ago when this bunch of hacks took office. Our political bodies were intended to be made up of common folk, doctors, druggists, farmers, carpenters, and some but not all lawyers. The corruption that plagues our political system is not just confined to the federal branch but rots our local and state governments as well. The one-sided attitude of the media I think dissuades a lot of honorable people from going into politics. If you’re not a member of the party the media supports they come after you with both barrels blazing, examining your whole life with a microscope trying to unearth some juicy little tidbit that will turn the public against you and undermine your campaign, and who wants to put their family through that. We need look no farther than the last presidential election to find proof of what I’m talking about. Look at the raging war that was waged against Sarah Palin. A media that actually turns a totally blind eye to childbirth out of wedlock acted as if Bristol Palin had committed a crime of immense and proportions. While Barack Obama, the all-time media darling, who sat under the preaching of a revolutionary racist for twenty years claimed he had never heard any of the inflammatory, anti-American rhetoric that regularly spewed from Jeremiah Wright’s mouth. He kept company with a sixties era terrorist who to this day wants to destroy the American way of life, and was never held accountable. Those who have sworn to serve you pass bills that they haven’t even read and the last thing they want is for we the people to find out what’s actually in them. There’s a dirty little club in Washington and the state capitols around this country, a club whose membership fees are to toe the line and be willing to sell out your own nation for a place at the big hog trough. And ladies and gentlemen, with the exception of a handful of good men and women who actually keep the faith in this pack of wolves, that’s what they are, pigs with and insatiable appetite for power.

The Public Life of the Overexposed Teenager: Bristol Palin Talks TV Debut, Levi Johnston

Bristol Palin is no stranger to the spotlight – her mom, Sarah, ran for Vice President of the U.S., and Bristol herself became a celebrity for having a child out of wedlock. While the 19-year-old is in Alaska raising Tripp, she still makes news often, be it for her relationship with Levi Johnston, her TV debut or random magazine interviews. Speaking of which, regarding rumors that she and Levi are back together after a year at each other’s throats, Bristol wouldn’t really go into it with In Touch Weekly . “There are a lot of rumors about everyone and everyone’s business,” she said. “We are working together and whatever is best for Tripp is what we are going to do.” She is thrilled, however, to call attention to her guest-starring gig on her favorite TV show The Secret Life Of The American Teenager , a show about teen pregnancy. In the episode, airing Monday, Bristol Palin plays herself and befriends Amy (Shailene Woodley), whom she meets at a music program for teen mothers. “There was no hesitation on my part at all,” she tells In Touch . “It’s a family-based show, right up my alley. Teen pregnancy is something I can relate to.” “It was a good fit. Going through the teen pregnancy at the same time Amy was going through hers was extremely relatable. I had felt the same things.” Bristol Palin adds that she’s not hoping to become a movie star . “I have never done anything like this,” she smiles, “and I don’t think I will ever do any sort of acting again. I’ll leave it to the experts. But I had a great time.” She’s also ready for her detractors: “I don’t really pay attention to the negative stuff written about me I don’t know why they would say anything negative.” “Just because we are dealing with the teen pregnancy issue and sex and relationships? It’s not like I am acting as a prostitute or something.” No, but whether she educates and discourages or merely promotes and glorifies teen pregnancy while enhancing her own celebrity status is debatable. Is she discouraging or promoting teen pregnancy?

MPAA Officially Delivers ‘R’ Rating For The Expendables

The last few weeks have seen a bit of back and forth about how Lionsgate would release The Expendables ; to hear producer Avi Lerner tell it , test audiences would have at least some influence on the rating depending on their reactions to PG-13- and R-rated cuts. But more evidence emerged today that the film will arrive in the theaters the way Sylvester Stallone intended. And I think we all know what he intended.
