Mother of Conrad Murray to Judge: Free My Son!!

Dr. Conrad Murray’s defense team has brought out the big guns. The physician’s mother is among the latest of his friends, family, patients and colleagues writing to the judge who will decide Murray’s fate at sentencing today. Murray was found guilty this month of involuntary manslaughter in the June 2009 death of Michael Jackson, and Michael Pastor will decide how much time he does. He could get up to four years in prison … but will he? Not if his mother has any say in it. “Nothing like this has ever happened to him before,” asserted Murray’s mom, Milta Rush, in a letter obtained by E! News . “He has never been in trouble with the law before and I am barely standing, I am so scared and worried sick about him being incarcerated.” She may get her wish, despite what you might think. Even if Pastor gives him the maximum possible four years in state prison, California’s new realignment law allows many nonviolent offenders who otherwise would have been eligible for state prison instead to be remanded to county jails. Thus, it’s unlike Murray is going to state prison. The L.A. County Jail, a far less punishing environment, is the doc’s most likely destination after today. Moreover, as Lindsay Lohan has taught us, there’s little room in county jail either. He could do as little as 10 to 20 percent of his sentence, some believe. The sheriff doesn’t want him county jail, it is too much risk. So he is likely going to be entitled to some kind of alternative, work release or house arrest. Your tax dollars at work, Californians.

For all of Lisa’s protests about not wanting to go overboard on Pandora’s wedding she does absolutely nothing to stop her wedding planner from doing just that. Minus 8 because I wish she’d stop whining about it and accept the fact that nothing is too outlandish for her baby girl, including $15,000 wedding invitations.

British Film Director and "Enfant Terrible" Ken Russell Dies at Age 84

The British aren’t exactly known for their decadent, Baroque sensibilities, but director Ken Russell , who passed away this weekend at the age of 84, spent his life trying to change his country’s “stiff upper lip” image. Russell rose to prominence with 1969’s Women in Love , which shocked viewers with its skinny-dipping scenes, homoerotic undertones, and depiction of- horrors!- the female orgasm. At the time British filmmaking was dominated by “kitchen sink realism,” which rejected fanciful plots and elaborate sets in favor of grey, dour stories about grey, dour people. Russell’s bombastic style flew in the face of all these ideas, as described by Geoff Andrew , head of the British Film Institute: “He used surrealism, exaggeration, colour, music, costume, to push things beyond realism. No-one was doing that in Britain, and the ‘shockingness’ of his style was part and parcel of that. He didn’t feel he had to restrain himself – he didn’t want to be part of this grey world,” Andrews told the UK’s Channel 4. Another shocking aspect of Russell’s films was their plentiful nudity- Helen Mirren , Kathleen Turner , Joely Richardson , Theresa Russell , and Michelle Phillips (to name a few) have all done nudity in Russell films, and Glenda Jackson was one of the first mainstream actresses to go full frontal in The Music Lovers (1971). That same year, Russell’s film The Devils (1971) was widely banned thanks to its depiction of the intersection between sex, violence, and religious ecstasy, a controversy Russell welcomed, as he did with the many outrages his films sparked over the years. A great lover of classical music, Russell gleefully combined high culture and cheap thrills in films like Lisztomania (1975), Mahler (1974) and Lady Chatterly (1992). But he was equally comfortable in the gutter, as shown by his streetwalking sagas Whore (1991) and Crimes of Passion (1984), and this combination made him the perfect conduit to bring the Who’s depraved rock opera Tommy (1975) to the big screen. Russell had trouble securing funding for his elaborate epics later in his career, but his innovations (and skinnovatons!) in the art of cinema have assured his influence will be felt for many years to come. You Can’t Be Serious: Six HIV Patients Dead After Being Told By Their Churches That They Had Been Cured Through An “Exorcism

SMH , what year is this??? At least six HIV-positive people have died after evangelical churches in Britain reportedly told them to stop taking their medication because they had been healed by God. Pastors at several churches in England and Scotland told undercover Sky News reporters that they could be healed through an exorcism-like process that involves shouting over the patients and spraying water in their faces. A pastor at the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN), a wealthy televangelist organization with branches throughout the world, told one undercover reporter – who actually is HIV positive – that they had a 100% success rate. “We have many people that contract HIV. All are healed,” Holmes said. Holmes even said that if symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea persist, it’s a good sign that the virus is leaving the body. “We’ve had people come back before saying, ‘Oh, I’m not healed. The diarrhea I had when I had HIV, I’ve got it again’” Holmes said. “I have to stop them and say, ‘No, please, you are free.’” And according to the Sky News investigation, as many as six individuals have died after churches instructed them to discontinue their medication. One of the victims, Emmanuel, stopped taking his medicine a year ago after being instructed by a pastor at his church in London. The pastor told him that once god forgave him, “the disease will definitely go.” But now Emmanuel believes he may have passed his HIV infection to his boyfriend. “I feel guilty, if I’m the one who passed it onto him I’m feeling guilty. Yeah, very much guilty,” he told Sky News. SCOAN continues to defend and administer it’s treatment for the HIV virus, and other diseases. “If anybody comes in the name of God, we pray for them. The outcome of the prayer will determine if they come genuinely or not,” the church asserted in a statement. Can you believe people actually bought that? Source

‘Breaking Dawn’ No Turkey At Box Office

‘Twilight’ flick stays on top, besting family fare including ‘Muppets,’ ‘Hugo.’ By Ryan J. Downey Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment The reemergence of Kermit and his pals wasn’t enough to knock Bella Swan and her new husband off the box-office throne. remained the #1 movie in America over the long holiday weekend as the romantic vampires-and-werewolves flick fended off competition from PG-rated newcomers “Arthur Christmas” and “Hugo.” The second-to-last “Twilight” movie generated an additional $62.3 million from Wednesday to Sunday for an overall domestic total of $221.3 million, according to estimates released by Summit Entertainment. Despite suffering from the same critical drubbing typically inflicted upon “Twilight” movies, “Breaking Dawn” triumphed against a trio of well-reviewed flicks with broad family appeal. Comedic actor Jason Segel’s “Muppets” debuted with $42 million over the five-day period. The celebrity-cameo-filled revival of the beloved television and movie franchise opened much more strongly than previous Muppet movies. Even with adjustments for ticket-price inflation, the newest “Muppets” overtook 1996’s “Muppet Treasure Island,” the previous series’ strongest box-office debut. The reboot of sorts was a labor of love for co-writer and star Segel, who made his adoration for felt puppets clear in 2008’s “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” “Happy Feet 2” was the #3 movie over the weekend. But with a production budget nearly triple that of “The Muppets,” the animated sequel’s $44 million gross ($18.5 million of which was collected over the weekend) couldn’t keep the Australian digital production facility that worked on the movie from laying off 600 of its 700 employees, according to a report from Australian film news site . “Arthur Christmas” opened far behind “The Muppets” at #4 with just $17 million. The 3-D movie, from the British animation house behind “Wallace & Gromit,” cost Sony Pictures an estimated $100 million to produce. Aardman Animations’ “Flushed Away” and “Chicken Run” earned more in their respective three-day opening weekends than the five-day total for their latest movie. Despite playing on 2,000 fewer screens than “Arthur Christmas,” Martin Scorsese’s live-action 3-D love letter to classic cinema, “Hugo,” was #5 with $15.4 million. The filmmaker best known for violent adult dramas like “Goodfellas” based his first foray into family fare on the popular children’s book “The Invention of Hugo Cabret.” Roughly 75 percent of the film’s grosses were reportedly from pricier 3-D screenings, according to Paramount. “Hugo” played at 1277 venues and is scheduled to expand to 2000 on December 9. The weekend wasn’t without Oscar-bait dramas for adults. The Weinstein Company’s “My Week With Marilyn” made $2 million in 244 theaters while the company’s black-and-white silent film, “The Artist,” made $210,000 in just four New York and Los Angeles theaters. The box office was down 12 percent overall from the same period last year, when “Tangled” was new in theaters against a “Harry Potter” movie and “MegaMind.” “Tangled” was #1 with $68.7 million compared to the $62.3 million made by “Breaking Dawn.” Check out everything we’ve got on and “The Muppets.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
