WTF is goin’ on in India ?! Tourist Jumps Off Balcony To Escape Sex Attacker In India Via WashingtonPost On a day when lawmakers discussed a new anti-rape law, a British tourist jumped off a balcony of her hotel room to escape being sexually assaulted by the hotel owner in Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal, police said Tuesday. The tourist fractured her leg when she jumped from the second floor. Subhash Chand Dubey, a senior police officer, told reporters in Agra that the owner knocked on her door at 4 a.m., offered her a massage and refused to leave, even after she declined. The hotel owner then tried to enter her room forcibly with a security guard, and the tourist jumped off the balcony to escape, Dubey said. Dubey said the hotel owner has been arrested. The incident comes three days after a Swiss woman was gang sex attacked when she was bicycling through central India with her husband. Says Parliament member Pinaki Misra about his country’s f***kin’ problem: “We are today facing an epidemic in this country. Let’s come to terms with that first,” said Pinaki Misra, a member of Parliament, as lawmakers discussed new anti-sex attack legislation that seeks to not only make punishment tougher, but also widen the definition of sexual violence to include stalking, voyeurism and acid attacks on women. “We are now called the sex attack capital of the world. What has happened to us? “After the horrific incident of the 16th of December, after the nationwide condemnation, the criticism, the amount of self reflection and the amount of self abhorrence all of us undertook, it is my shameful admittance today that there have been an excess of 250 sex attacks reported, and many of them gang attacks,” Misra added. Bill O’Reilly’s divorce from Maureen McPhilmy was/is so ugly, he is trying to get his ex-wife booted from the Catholic Church, according to a new report. The Fox News personality became estranged/separated from Maureen McPhilmy, with whom he has two adolescent children, at some point in 2010. According to sources, O’Reilly then went on a crusade to ruin the career of the Nassau County Police detective she was dating – and has since married. O’Reilly is now in the midst of a scorched-earth custody battle over the ex-couple’s two children, even as he undermines his own custody arrangement. How’s he doing that, you ask? By hiring, as a member of his household staff, the woman he and his ex-wife had agreed on as a neutral arbiter of their disputes going forward. It also involves O’Reilly’s attempts to annul his marriage (rather than merely ending it) and have McPhilmy potentially booted from the Catholic Church. In May 2010, O’Reilly and his wife became estranged and began living in separate houses less than half a mile from each other on Long Island. In 2011, O’Reilly allegedly used connections with the Nassau County P.D. to try to launch an internal affairs investigation into McPhilmy’s new boyfriend. Relations between them only got uglier from there … years later. The Catholic Church is even involved in this now, believe it or not. Give Justin Timberlake credit: when he comes back to music, he really comes back to music. Having spent the last few weeks promoting his new album (” The 20/20 Experience “) absolutely everywhere – from hosting Saturday Night Live to sticking around Jimmy Fallon all week as the musical guest – JT announced at a release party yesterday that even more new songs are on the way. “I’ve got to clear up the rumors,” the singer said. “This whole thing about this only being the first part … is true. There is another half. I’m not giving you a release date.” Reports, however, claim the second new album of 2013 will be available in November. Timberlake sang three songs from the new album at the shindig in Los Angles: “Mirrors,”” Suit & Tie” and the Latin-infused “Let the Groove Get In.” However, he says the final song on the CD, ” Blue Ocean Floor ,” is the most “unique.” It was inspired by British rock group Radiohead. Why wait so long between albums and then release TWO in a matter of months? Justin explained to Ryan Seacrest: “I definitely enjoy all the entertaining but music is definitely the most special thing to me, and that’s probably why I wait so long in between records, because for me, no pun intended, it’s an experience.”
Don’t be surprised if the whole Ben Affleck for Senator? media frenzy gets revived in a few years. I just read Deadline’s report that Warner Bros. has closed a deal for Nathaniel Philbrick’s historical tale, Bunker Hill: A City, A Siege, A Revolution , which will be published in April, and it sure sounds like a great project for a filmmaker who’s toyed with the idea of public office. Ben Affleck Running For Senate? You may remember that Affleck’s name came up last December as a potential replacement for Massachusetts Senator John Kerry’s seat when President Obama appointed Kerry Secretary of State. Affleck, who was out promoting Argo for awards season didn’t exactly deny the speculation at first. When asked about his potential candidacy by Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation , his reply was, “One never knows.” But then, on Christmas Eve, Affleck wrote on his Facebook page : “I love Massachusetts and our political process, but I am not running for office,” although he added that he would continue to be active with the Eastern Congo Initiative, a charity he founded to promote peaceful development. Who knows if Massachusetts will even need a candidate if — and when — the movie adaptation of Bunker Hill hits cineplexes, but it certainly has the trappings of a Lincoln -style movie with one exception: Affleck, unlike Steven Spielberg , has got the juice to seal the deal on a Best Picture win and, after he was snubbed by the Academy for Argo, will probably be a shoo-in for future Best Director nominations. The parody Twitter account that bore Amour director Michael Haneke’s name actually got a few things right about the Austrian director. On Thursday, Benjamin Lee, the Shortlist.com Deputy Editor who, earlier this week, revealed himself to be the prankster behind the memorably loopy @Michael_Haneke parody Twitter feed, wrote about learning that the real Haneke is more of a “goofball” than he expected. And a cat lover, too. Benjamin Lee On The Real Vs. Fake Michael Haneke Twitter Account In a column for the British newspaper, The Guardian , Lee explained that he had started the Twitter account as a “purposely lowbrow” response to the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s “chilly, occasionally pretentious demeanour” and his contempt for the mainstream. Part of the fake Haneke’s shtick included repeated references to his “stinky cat,” which Lee explained, ” was a recurring joke made to distance the two Hanekes even more, not being able to imagine the director of The White Ribbon making so many references to his cat’s flatulence.” Lee has since learned that the two Hanekes are a bit closer than he imagined. While watching Yves Montmayeur’s documentary about Haneke, Michael H. – Profession: Director, he wrote that he was shocked to discover that Haneke actually is “the proud owner of more than one cat, a fact that few people know.” He also noted: “In the documentary, however, Haneke comes off as refreshingly candid. He has a charming sense of humour. Not that I had thought him humourless (there are darkly comic moments in The Piano Teacher and Funny Games ), but I hadn’t expected him to be a goofball. For example, when assembled with the Time of the Wolf cast, he pulls the classic bunny ears prank behind one of the child actors. Not what you might expect from the man who believes that all movies should assault the viewer.” Haneke’s Reaction To The Twitter Parody Lee also admitted that he was looking to get a rise out of the filmmaker: When I started tweeting as Haneke, I was intrigued by what his reaction would be. I was expecting apathy and possibly contempt but he expressed intrigue and, yes, a small amount of contempt. “I tried to read some of the posts but my English isn’t good enough to allow me that,” he said in an interview . “I’m really not interested in what he’s writing, but I’m fascinated by the fact that 25,000 people have subscribed to this feed of nonsense!” I fear that my affectionate spoofing has helped to prove his thoughts on the mainstream to be horribly accurate. But at least I’ve shone a light on those unsung cats of his LOL. I wonder what the real Haneke makes of this now. At the very least, he should let the world know whether his cats are flatulent. AnOther Magazine is standing by its controversial photo of Michelle Williams. The Oscar winner poses for that publication’s latest issue (on an alternative cover) in what appears to be Native American attire, a look that has inspired many critics to react in horror and describe her costume as “redface.” But the British magazine refuses to issue an apology, explaining instead via statement to Yahoo News: “While we recognize the seriousness of this debate, the image in question in no way intends to mimic, trivialize or stereotype any particular ethnic group or culture, as recent reports suggest.” Adding that Williams is presented in a “series of eight different imaginary characters,” the magazine concludes: “All the characters in the story were inspired by multiple fashion and cultural references, characters and eras, as well as by our admiration of Ms. Williams as one of the most respected and talented actresses of her generation. While we dispute the suggestion that the image has a racist subtext in the strongest possible terms, we’re mortified to think that anyone would interpret it in this way.” What do you think?
