Britney Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’: More Details Emerge

Single will premiere at midnight Tuesday. By Jocelyn Vena Cover art for Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” Photo: Jive Want to know what time you’ll be able to hear Britney Spears’ final cut of “Hold It Against Me” ? Well, according to a press release from her label, Jive Records, the song will hit radio and iTunes at midnight ET on Tuesday, days after a demo version of the club tune leaked online. The song will remain an iTunes exclusive purchase for a week, until January 18. “Hold It Against Me,” produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin, is the lead single from Brit’s highly anticipated, yet-untitled March release . “Heard an early demo of my new single leaked. If u think that’s good, wait til you hear the real one Tuesday,” the pop star tweeted . “With her vocals on that, it’s going to be an undeniable, surefire hit,” Perez Hilton told MTV News about the demo, which features vocals from songwriter Bonnie McKee. “I loved it. My own critique is that the demo sounds a little too much like Ke$ha. I hope that the finished song feels like a Britney song. Besides that, it’s still to me a hit song.” Luke admitted that the track that has everyone talking already will really have fans hyped once the final version drops. “That version of hold it against me is really really old,” he shared. “It don’t sound like that anymore… it’s WAY better.” The “Hold It Against Me” leak is the latest in a long history of leaked Britney songs . In the past, other Spears lead singles like “Womanizer” (off 2008’s Circus ) and “Gimme More” (off 2007’s Blackout ) also hit the Net early, only gaining the singer more buzz for those releases. What are you expecting from Brit’s new single? Let us know in the comments!

‘Season Of The Witch’ Explores ‘The Paranormal,’ Nic Cage Says

Cage tells MTV News he was inspired by B-movies like ‘the great Roger Corman classics.’ By Eric Ditzian Nicolas Cage Photo: MTV News Why the vitriol? The blogosphere has lit up in recent days with some staggering hate for “Season of the Witch,” Nicolas Cage’s supernatural tale of evil spirits haunting Europe during the Crusades. Honestly, there are two ways to assess a movie: You can critique it for what you think it should have aspired to be or you can critique it on the grounds of what filmmakers themselves attempted to create. And with the latter sort of critical assessment, “Season of the Witch” hardly deserves all this fury, especially given how Cage describes his approach to the film. The actor stars, alongside Ron Perlman, as a warrior recruited to ferry a suspected witch to a bunch of monks in the hope of curing a devastating plague outbreak. “I think at some point I wanted to make movies that celebrated actors like Christopher Lee and Vincent Price, and the great Roger Corman classics that are unafraid to explore the paranormal and the supernatural,” Cage explained to MTV News. “These are the kind of movies that I personally watch, so it’s a very honest expression for me.” When you realize that Cage and director Dominic Sena were aspiring to make a film in the vein of something like “Attack of the Crab Monsters,” it becomes clearer why “Season of the Witch” plays out the way it does. Which is not to say the movie, which hit theaters on Friday (January 7), is some B-movie masterpiece — hardly. Seriously: not a chance. But it’s still quite entertaining. It’s hard to tire of Cage as proud Behman and Perlman as meathead Felson riffing back and forth in what Cage calls “a great buddy movie [with] a road-trip element to it.” “Whereas Behman has a very well-articulated idea of his relationship to country and church and spirituality and God, Felson has none,” Perlman explained. “He doesn’t bother to spend any time thinking about that. His only thought is the next drink, the next night of whoring, and how to create as much mayhem on the battlefield as is humanly possible.” Will you check out “Season of the Witch”? Britney Spears Has A History Of Song Leaks

The ‘Hold It Against Me’ demo making the rounds certainly isn’t Brit’s first leaked track! By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Eric Charbonneau/ Le Studio/ Wireimage On Thursday, a demo version of Britney Spears’ new single, “Hold It Against Me,” hit the Web. The track, which is set for official release on Tuesday, isn’t the first Britney song to leak before the singer was ready to share it for public consumption. Brit made headlines last year, when a leaked demo of her version of Gaga’s “Telephone” was made public. Producer Rodney Jerkins confirmed that the song was real, but that it was never intended for anyone outside of Brit’s camp to hear. That same year, previously unreleased songs like “When I Say So,” “Mad Love” and “Am I a Sinner” also hit the Web. In 2008, around the release of her comeback album Circus, snippets of the song’s lead single, “Womanizer,” were leaked by Nashville radio station 107.5 FM The River. The station quickly removed the audio from its website, but it was too late, and the song had already made its way around the Internet. Multiple Circus tracks also got some attention earlier than the singer had intended. “Circus” and “If You Seek Amy,” both of which would later become singles off the album, hit blogs weeks prior to the album’s December 2008 release. In August 2007, weeks before it was officially released, Blackout ‘s lead single, “Gimme More,” found its way online. Other songs recorded around that time also leaked, including “Everybody,” “Your…,” “What You Sippin’ On” and “Cold as Fire.” Does hearing Britney Spears’ leaked tracks make you less likely to buy them later, or more excited for their official release? Britney Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ Demo Lyrics

The single is set for official release on Tuesday. By Jocelyn Vena over art for Britney Spears’ single “Hold It Against Me” Photo: Jive Britney is almost back! Fans are super excited over a leaked demo version of Spears’ news single, “Hold It Against Me,” set for official release on Tuesday. While the vocals on the demo come courtesy of songwriter Bonnie McKee, Ryan Seacrest and Perez Hilton have assured us that the final cut of the song is bound to be a hit. Here are the lyrics to the demo, which may have changed in the final version, which was produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin. Hey, over there Please forgive me If I’m coming on too strong. Hate to stare But you’re winning And they’re playing my favorite song. So come ‘ere, little closer Wanna whisper in your ear. Say it clear, little question Wanna note how you just feel. If I feel my heart was beating loud, If we could escape the crowd some how, If I said I want your body now, Would you hold it against me? ‘Cause you feel like paradise And I need a vacation tonight. So if I said I want your body now, Would you hold it against me? Hey, you might think That I’m crazy, But I think you’re just my type. I may be little hazy, But you just cannot deny There’s a spark in between us. When we’re dancin’ on the floor I want more, wanna see it, So I’m askin’ you tonight If I feel my heart was beating loud, If we could escape the crowd some how, If I said I want your body now, Would you hold it against me? ‘Cause you feel like paradise And I need a vacation tonight. So if I said I want your body now, Would you hold it against me? What do you think of the lyrics? Tell us in the comments! Pauly D Says Britney Spears Album Is ‘Amazing’

‘This is gonna be one of her greatest albums,’ ‘Jersey Shore’ star raves. By Jocelyn Vena Pauly D Photo: Bobby Bank/ WireImage Perez Hilton loves Britney Spears’ new single, “Hold It Against Me,” and now it seems that she’s getting some love from “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D. Pauly got to hear some of Brit’s new tunes because he and the pop star have the same management team. “Her album is amazing — like, I can’t even believe it,” he told Billboard.com about the March release. “I will be playing her tracks in the club, they’re so good. I think this is gonna be one of her greatest albums. … Britney’s awesome. We have the same management, and that’s how we meet a lot.” Brit’s “Hold It Against Me,” set to drop Tuesday , is certainly a club banger, and Pauly believes that these days, with so much pop going dance , the singer is right on the cutting edge. “Everyone’s steering towards dance and everything like that, and she’s right there,” he explained. “That’s how I judge good music, is where I’m gonna play it. Like, ‘alright, I’ll play that in the car or I can play that in the club.’ You can definitely play her stuff in the club.” So is it all dance, or is Brit also slowing things down a bit? “She has some tracks you can play in the car, too,” Pauly said, so we’ll take that as a yes. Pauly’s not the only one who’s heard some other new Britney tracks. Ryan Seacrest revealed that he’s heard another song, “I I I Wanna Go,” describing it as a “powerhouse single.” As for “Hold It Against Me,” Seacrest raved about the song’s final cut. “WOW. The demo doesn’t even compare!” he teased. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Britney Spears Related Artists Britney Spears

‘Country Strong’: A Cheat Sheet

Everything you need to know, from how Gwyneth Paltrow prepared for the film to how Britney Spears inspired it. By Kara Warner Gwyneth Paltrow in “Country Strong” Photo: Sony Pictures Although it may seem as though we’ve been talking about Gwyneth Paltrow and her turn as a washed-up country singer in “Country Strong” forever, the film, which also stars Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester, has only been in a few select theaters until now. Luckily for those eager to see it, the film finally opened in wide release Friday (January 7). To celebrate the occasion and properly prepare moviegoers for some boot-stompin’, here’s everything you need to know about “Country Strong.” Back in December 2009, it was announced that Paltrow would be shooting a “country film” called “Love Don’t Let Me Down,” produced by none other than former “Spider-Man” Tobey Maguire. At the beginning of 2010, production headed to Nashville , the home of country music, where the locals were treated to first listens of the country stylings of Hedlund, Meester and Paltrow, all of whom actually sing their own songs in the movie. When MTV News caught up with Paltrow at the beginning of the summer, she was in the thick of promotion for “Iron Man 2,” but she revealed that her hesitation to sing country music didn’t compare to the nervousness she felt concerning the amount of skin she bared for the role. Toward the end of the summer, news trickled out regarding the film’s title change from the wordy “Love Don’t Let Me Down” to “Country Strong,” which is also the title of one of the songs Paltrow’s character, Kelly Canter, sings in the film. In September we got our eyes on the first full-length trailer for the film. Then in November Paltrow made headlines in Nashville once again when she bravely graced the stage at the Country Music Awards and performed “Country Strong” live . From there began the big promotional push in anticipation of the film’s release. We chatted with the stars at the film’s press day and found out key details about Meester’s stage fright and how she had trained for the role . Paltrow revealed that if she ever puts out an album, it will be a little bit country and a little bit Cee Lo . We also learned from director Shana Feste that Paltrow’s character’s troubled, down-on-her-luck edge was inspired by Britney Spears’ very public meltdown . On December 15 the stars lit up the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere , and shortly thereafter MTV News unveiled an exclusive clip of “Gossip Girl” Meester belting out her big showstopper . After that, all we could do was wait for January 7 for “Country Strong” to arrive in wide release. Britney, Gaga, Lil Wayne Lead 2011’s Most-Anticipated Albums

Offerings from Drake, Coldplay, Rick Ross, U2, Jay-Z and Kanye West and more also make our list of LPs to watch for this year. By Gil Kaufman Britney Spears Photo: Jive 2010 went out with a bang thanks to blockbuster albums by Taylor Swift, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj , but 2011 looks to top that flurry of releases with an avalanche of fresh product from some of your favorite artists. While its release is still unconfirmed, one of the most anticipated discs of the year could drop as early as next week . That’s when Jay-Z and Kanye’s collabo album, Watch the Throne, hits shelves if comments made by Yeezy on New Year’s Eve are to be believed. Here’s a breakdown of some other important albums on tap for 2011. Hip-Hop The Jigga/’Ye hookup promises to be the first of many major rap events in the first half of the year, which is also expected to bring the long-awaited new disc from Lupe Fiasco, Lasers ; the full-length debut from Wiz Khalifa; as well as not-yet-titled new sets from Nas and 50 Cent. In addition to Rick Ross’ God Forgives, I Don’t and a possible Dipset reunion effort, fans are also awaiting release dates for Drake’s sophomore CD, Take Care, and the debut from buzzbomb MC/producer Jay Electronica , who holds the seal of approval from Roc Nation head Jay-Z. And after a delay caused by MCA’s (a.k.a. Adam Yauch) cancer scare, the Beastie Boys are planning a return with their eighth studio album, The Hot Sauce Committee, Part 2, in the spring. All of that could just be an appetizer, though, for the main event: the release of Lil Wayne’s first post-prison album, the hotly tipped Tha Carter IV, which has not yet received a street date. And there is, of course, the always tantalizing proposition of Dr. Dre finally dropping his years-in-the-making rap follow-up Detox, on which Eminem has recently said he’s been working with his mentor. Pop Since “Whip My Hair” became a viral sensation, fans have been hyped for the still-untitled debut from tween star Willow Smith , who has hinted she might remake one of dad Will’s signature hits. But it’s the next move from the queen of R&B, Beyonc

Lady Gaga vs. Britney Spears: Who Will Rule 2011?

As she announced earlier via pants-less Twitter pic, Lady Gaga has a new album out this spring. But she’ll have some serious competition as she looks to cement her place as the reigning queen of pop music and culture: Britney Spears. Gaga’s single, “Born This Way,” is due out next month, with her album of the same name set for May. Britney’s album is scheduled for a March release. Which pop queen will conquer music in 2011? Which bombshell will rise to the top of the heap? Can they deliver truly cutting-edge music or will they rely on their persona to carry them forward? On top of musical similarities, the two have rabid fan bases (Gaga, Justin Bieber and Britney have the most Twitter fans worldwide, in that order). While Gaga’s image is unique and experimental, she’s still so new to the scene that it’s hard to know what to expect in terms of her musical style. The same is true, oddly enough, of Britney. Despite being a seasoned vet, she’s so micromanaged that musically, she’s now a veritable blank slate. These new Britney song lyrics were leaked, but would anything she does fail to satisfy her fans? Spears is as bulletproof as they come in this era. Because The Fame was so groundbreaking and so fresh, the pressure is more on Gaga to produce something of comparable cultural significance. Both will rack up huge sales because people are invested in them . Even if the albums are merely average, fans want them to succeed as people. But if either superstar comes out with an album that’s edgy, catchy, different and brilliant on its own merit, that’s who will rule the year in music. What do you think? Whose album will fare better this year?
