DVD: Age Cannot Wither, Nor Custom Stale, All About Eve

Some movies are deadly accurate about capturing the way people really talk while others have an ear for how we wish everyone spoke all the time. And you can definitely sign me up for a world where the quips fly as fast, and the bitchery is as crisp, as in All About Eve (Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment). Sixty years after this Broadway-backstage comedy-drama snagged a Best Picture Oscar, it remains a sterling example of American movies at their smartest and most entertaining.

“The Royal Families” aka The Camels Carters And The Smiths Partner To Form Film Company

That’s a LOT of money in that picture. Sweet black love in the building ya’ll… Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and their partners at Overbrook Entertainment have formed a joint-venture with Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter to develop and produce major motion pictures. First up? A remake of the Broadway musical “Annie,” in which Will and Jada’s daughter, Willow — who recently signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label — will star in. Although the project is in its preliminary stages, it will be developed with Sony Pictures Entertainment and produced by Overbrook and Jay. The partnership between Will and Jada and Jay-Z began when the three decided to invest in the beauty line Carol’s Daughter. Their next venture together was when they joined forces again to co-produce the Broadway play “Fela!” Since then, Willow, who is managed by Overbrook’s Miguel Melendez, has signed to Roc Nation and released first single “Whip My Hair.” “The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision. We’ve already produced a Tony Award-winning play and we’re developing a true superstar in Willow,” said Jay-Z in a statement. “This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative and innovative.” Is there ANYTHING that these couples can’t do?? It’s f*cking awesome to see black couples and their children building empires and achieving new levels of success and empowerment. Clap for ‘em. Source

Alicia Silverstone Expecting First Child

‘Clueless’ actress confirms pregnancy with husband Christopher Jarecki. By Mawuse Ziegbe Alicia Silverstone Photo: Charles Gallay/ Getty Images Alicia Silverstone has, like, so totally grown up. The actress, who shot to fame as the ditzy, fashion-forward 16-year-old rich kid in the hit 1995 movie “Clueless,” is pregnant. The star’s rep confirmed to People that Silverstone and her husband of five years, musician Christopher Jarecki, are expecting their first child together. The star has also been spotted tooling around Los Angeles in casual gear, sporting her growing baby bump. Silverstone, who has stayed busy since her “Cher” days appearing in the Broadway play “Time Stands Still” and writing the cookbook “The Kind Diet,” said last year that she has been eagerly anticipating motherhood. “I’ve been wanting to have a baby since I was 2 years old,” she told People. “I’m destined to be a mother.” Silverstone also said she loved portraying a pregnant woman onstage in “Still”: “Wearing a pregnancy suit was so much fun,” she said. “I loved the feeling of pretending to be pregnant and having little arms and legs and this big belly.” In addition to expanding her family, Silverstone has some professional projects on the horizon and will reunite with “Clueless” writer-director Amy Heckerling for the upcoming flick “Vamps.” Silverstone will star opposite Sigourney Weaver and Krysten Ritter as a young vampire with a taste for blood and New York nightlife. Silverstone also will appear in the upcoming flick “Butter,” alongside Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde and Ty Burrell from ABC’s “Modern Family.” The film tells the story of a young orphan (Yara Shahidi) who displays a talent for crafting butter sculptures — a development that threatens to derail the dreams of Garner’s character, who is set on winning a butter-carving competition in a small Midwestern town. Is Eli Roth Co-Directing RZA’s Kung Fu Epic?

An air of mystery (and, understandably, confusion) has surrounded the awesome-in-theory directorial debut of Wu-Tang Clan rapper-turned-actor RZA, who began filming his period kung fu epic The Man with the Iron Fists last month in China. With the plot largely under wraps — it involves a weapons-forging blacksmith in feudal China to be played by RZA himself, because of course! — production details from the period film have been kept largely on the hush, aside from co-producer / co-writer Eli Roth’s colorful tweets from the set. That is, until a few cast members began posting (non-spoilery) reports from the set describing how things are going.

The Godfather Part IV Isn’t Happening, Says Talia Shire

It’s getting to be late in the day on Friday — at least here on the frigid East Coast — and that means silliness. So, Talia Shire, will there be a fourth Godfather film coming to theaters in the near future? “I doubt it,” she said on Thursday night at The New York Times ‘ Film Club event in Los Angeles. “It makes me sad; we are not making great movies anymore.” Dammit! That movie that isn’t real that no one even imagined would happen isn’t going to happen? Way to put a black cloud on my weekend. Nino Rota, take us out . [ THR ]

5 Times the Golden Globes Got it Right (and the Oscars Didn’t)

Three reasons to be excited for the Golden Globes: 1.) Tina Fey may give a speech; 2.) Ricky Gervais may enjoy the longest broadcast chucklefit since Ed McMahon left the air; 3.) Every once in awhile, the Golden Globes award the right people and the Oscars don’t. Join us for a stroll into Golden Globe past, where it turns out the HFPA sometimes — sparingly, mind you — executes better judgment than AMPAS.
