Jeff Bezos: Amazon CEO Announces Split From Wife of 25 Years in Twitter Statement

Every day, Amazon ships out tens of millions of packages emblazoned with its famous smiling logo. But it seems there’s not much to grin about in the household of CEO Jeff Bezos these days. Bezos announced today that after a lengthy trial separation, he and wife Mackenzie Bezos have decided to file for divorce. “We want to make people aware of a development in our lives,” Bezos tweeted Wednesday morning. “As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.” “We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again,” he added. With a net worth of $137.4 billion, Bezos is the world’s richest man. It’s unclear if the couple had a prenuptial agreement, but since most of Bezos’ wealth is tied up in the massive online retailer he founded, it’s unlikely that Mackenzie will become the world’s richest divorcee. UPDATE: It is now being rumored that Bezos carried on an affair last year with former So You Think You Can Dance host Lauren Sanchez. The couple met at the New York hedge fund D.E. Shaw, where Bezos, the company’s vice president hired Mackenzie for a job. Just 23 at the time, Mackenzie initiated the relationship by asking her new boss out to lunch. “My office was next door to his, and all day long I listened to that fabulous laugh,” she told  Vogue in a 2013 interview. “How could you not fall in love with that laugh?” Three months later the couple was engaged, and three months after that, in 1993, Jeff and Mackenzie tied the knot. “I think my wife is resourceful, smart, brainy, and hot, but I had the good fortune of having seen her resume before I met her, so I knew exactly what her SATs were,” gushed about Mackenzie in the same interview. When Jeff made the cross-country trip to start a Seattle-based small online bookstore in 1994, Mackenzie became one of his first employees. “To me, watching your spouse, somebody that you love, have an adventure — what is better than that?” she later told CBS. In addition to her successes in the business world, Mackenzie is an acclaimed author, having penned two award-winning novels, The Testing of Luther Albright and Traps . In his statement, Jeff seemed to imply that he and Mackenzie would continue working together. “We’ve had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures,” the CEO wrote. “ Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends.” We wish Jeff and Mackenzie all the best on their divergent paths forward.

Bre Payton, Fox News Commentator, Dies at 26

Bre Payton, a writer for the Federalist and a contributor for Fox News, died on Friday in San Diego. She was 26 years old. Details are still coming in and the exact cause of death is unknown at the moment. “Bre Payton, our beloved staff writer for The Federalist, passed away on Friday in San Diego, California, following a sudden illness,” the online magazine wrote in a statement published on its website last night. The publication added that it was “heartbroken and devastated” over the news, continuing: “Bre brightened the lives of everyone around her,” this same statement said. “She was joyful, hard-working, and compassionate, and she leaves behind friends and colleagues for whom she brought nothing but sweetness and light. Payton also worked for One America News, a conservative outlet on which she would occasionally fill in as a guest host. Discussing the details surrounding Payton’s death, California-based congressional candidate Morgan Murtaugh said she found Payton unresponsive on Thursday and called 911. She then learned the fate of her friend the following day. “Thank you everyone for your prayers,” Murtaugh tweeted, adding: “It is with a heavy heart that I type this. Unfortunately Bre has passed. Please send prayers to her family. Rest in paradise you beautiful soul.” Prior to her passing, Payton was battling the flu and “possibly meningitis,” according to a profile on CaringBridge.org, USA Today reported. Following the tragic news of her death, a number of political figures expressed their sympathy on social media. Here is Meghan McCain, for instance: Ben and I are absolutely gutted and horrified by this news. Our prayers for @Bre_payton and her family. We are less vibrant without her— in every possible way. A wonderful, fearless, vibrant, intelligent young woman. Sending prayers to all of her family and friends during this darkness. Fox News host Shannon Bream also spoke out on Payton’s death writing, “I cannot believe this” and expounding as follows: @Bre_payton was such a beautiful light, smart and funny and kind and talented. Please pray for her broken hearted loved ones, who are undoubtedly reeling. She was far too young. Payton graduated from Patrick Henry College in 2015 with a degree in journalism, according to The Federalist. She joined the news outlet shortly after and quickly moved up to a political commentator featured on Fox News Channel, Fox Business Channel and OANN. The late journalist is survived by her parents George and Cindy Payton as well as her siblings James, Jack, Christina and Cheekie. May she rest in peace. LeBron James Compares NFL Owners To Slave Masters, Gets Flack For Sharing 21 Savage Lyrics

Source: Apega/WENN.com / WENN LeBron James is pretty much Teflon when it comes to controversies off the court, but a pair of recent instances have put him in the crosshairs of critics chomping at the bit. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar slammed NFL owners in a recent episode of his HBO show The Shop, and the sharing of a questionable 21 Savage lyric had him later apologizing for the act. Deadline reports : Speaking with business partner Maverick Carter Friday on his HBO Sports series The Shop, with guest stars Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams and rapper/actor Ice Cube, the Los Angeles Lakers forward called NFL owners “old white men” who, he said, acted like slave masters. “In the NFL they got a bunch of old white men owning teams and they got that slave mentality,” James said in the conversation. “And it’s like, ‘This is my team. You do what the f— I tell y’all to do. Or we get rid of y’all.’” James then said it was the players who made the league, not the league making the players. “The players are who make the ship go,” James said. “Every Sunday, without Todd Gurley and without Odell Beckham Jr., without those players, those guys, there is no football. And it’s the same in the NBA.” Sports Business writer Darren Rovell shared a tweet out of LeBron James rapping the lyrics of 21 Savage’s “ASMR” track, which prompted a flurry of chatter criticizing James for doing so although there were some who didn’t think he was taking the anti-Semitism route. However, James told ESPN that he truly didn’t mean to offend anyone by sharing out the song. “Apologies, for sure, if I offended anyone,” James said to ESPN after his squad lost 107-99 to the Memphis Grizzlies. “That’s not why I chose to share that lyric. I always [post lyrics]. That’s what I do. I ride in my car, I listen to great music, and that was the byproduct of it. So I actually thought it was a compliment, and obviously, it wasn’t through the lens of a lot of people. My apologies. It definitely was not the intent, obviously, to hurt anybody.” Surprised LeBron, who makes very few mistakes, put this out. Does quoting lyrics from a song absolve the person quoting from the responsibility behind the words? I’d argue no, especially with a following of 45 million. pic.twitter.com/efv9gkXres — Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) December 23, 2018 — Photo: WENN

Poll Shows What Crucial Iowa Voters Think About Likely Black Candidates For President

Here is the original post:

A new poll of Iowa Democrats released on Saturday revealed how they viewed the chances of two potential African-American candidates to beat President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. SEE ALSO: Here’s Another Sign That Cory Booker Is Running For President Nearly a third of Iowa Democrats said they would choose former Vice President Joe Biden as their top choice in the Iowa Caucuses, Politico reported. Sens. Kamala Harris of California and New Jersey’s Cory Booker were in the middle of a crowded field of about 20 candidates. These politicians have not announced their intention to run for president, and the Iowa caucus is months away— scheduled for Feb. 3, 2020. Still, this poll is considered an early indicator of the mood among Democrats. Iowa is the first state in the presidential nominating process. The winner has won the Democratic presidential nomination in six consecutive election cycles, according to Politico. In 2008, Iowa Caucus Democrats gave then-Sen.  Barack Obama  its  seal of approval . Iowans connected with Obama’s message of hope and change, and he rode that wave of enthusiasm all the way to the White House. 5 Signs Cory Booker Is About To Run For President https://t.co/Qz6NmeKM9n via @NewsOne — Kevin Agee (@preachingterp) February 14, 2018 Biden led the field with 32 percent. Bernie Sanders , a Vermont Independent, came in second place with 19 percent, followed by Texas’ Rep. Beto O’Rourke with 11 percent. Everyone else has single digits: Massachusetts’ Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 8 percent, Harris at 5 percent, and Booker at 4 percent. There has been a lot of Buzz about a possible Booker presidential run, especially after he received an important invitation in September from Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Troy Price to be the keynote speaker at the party’s fall gala. Harris said that she’s “ not ruling out ” a 2020 presidential run. The Washington Post ranked her third in July among likely Democratic candidates to win the party’s nomination—behind Sanders and Warren. A majority of the Iowa Democrats who were polled, 54 percent, said they want a candidate who could defeat Trump in 2020. About 40 percent said they are looking for a candidate who shares their views on key issues. They believe that Biden has the best chance of topping the president. At the same time, he was also the best-liked candidate in the field. About 82 percent of them had a favorable view of the former vice president. Additionally, Biden and Sanders led the pack in name recognition. Ebro Catches Heat & Issa Rae Makes Boss Moves: This Week’s Winners & Losers

Source: Gary Gershoff / Getty It was a win for Black people and people of color in the media this week with unique perspectives headed for the big screen! However, it was also a week of dreaded Twitter drama when one radio host decided not to ignore a serious subject. Check out the W’s below, then hit the next page to find out who lost in the Twitter battle. Winners Issa Rae Source: Craig Barritt / Getty In the last couple of years, the T.V. and movie industry has made huge strides in bringing diversity to the media. Movies like Black Panther and Get Out are the most immediate examples of Black people being in front of and behind the camera. However, history has taught us that the “Black fad” can be here today and gone tomorrow. One decade it might be sitcoms, the next it might be romantic comedies, and then, Hollywood can decide they’re done with the Blacks. Well Issa Rae is one of the people making sure this doesn’t happen thanks to an epic deal she signed with Columbia. According to  Variety , Issa’s production company, ColorCreative, has signed a multi-picture production deal that will allow the company to back projects from emerging diverse screenwriters. Certain writers will be announced in the spring of 2019 to work with Rae and ColorCreative to develop and write movies based on their original stories.   This is a huge move considering Black content that makes it to the big screen isn’t always original (e.g.  Black Panther, 12 Years A Slave, The Color Purple , etc.). With more original ideas, more diverse stories are sure to come that show the vastness of Black people and communities of color. If the flicks do well, they can also set the tone for more diverse films for years to come. “All of the projects we are working on are fresh and promising and we can’t wait to continue the work,” Issa said in a statement. “We hope to set a precedent and inspire the industry at large to invest in undiscovered talent, original IP, and fresh stories and perspectives.” Win, win, win.
