Drake Moves Past Bar Brawl With Help From The Weeknd, Dipset

Drake brushes off Chris Brown drama at New York show with all-star lineup including A$AP Rocky, Busta Rhymes and 2 Chainz. By Nadeska Alexis The Weeknd and Drake perform at New York’s Jones Beach on Saturday Photo: WANTAGH, New York — Drake hit the stage at the Nikon Theater in Jones Beach on Saturday night for his first public appearance since the now-infamous club brawl with Chris Brown , and except for a passing reference to the incident, the show went on with extra fuel from special guests like the Weeknd and Dipset. After opening sets from French Montana, 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, Waka Flocka Flame and J. Cole, Drake kicked things off with his Take Care tracks “Lord Knows” and “Underground Kings.” He formally introduced his crowd to the “greatest club in the world,” and assured them that no afterparty could measure up to what he had in store for the night, since he’d brought out “every single n—a that you wanna hear.” Cue “Crew Love” and an appearance from Drizzy’s Toronto pal the Weeknd, who momentarily sent the crowd into a frenzy, as the first in a chain of surprise guests. In addition to summoning Waka, Meek, 2 Chainz and French Montana back to the stage for features, Drake also brought out his Cash Money labelmate Busta Rhymes to perform the throwback “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See,” while A$AP Rocky and his mob dropped in as well. It wasn’t until Drake performed his soul-baring single “Marvin’s Room” that he finally made a blatant reference to the controversy surrounding the Chris Brown incident. He told the audience that he was in a great mood, despite the last few nights being difficult. Once he got that off his chest, he continued the show with an appearance from Jamaican dancehall star Mavado, who performed his own single “I’m So Special.” Despite earlier rumors that Drake might be arrested before the end of the night,  the YMCMB rapper was calm and cool, focused only on delivering a night to remember. He saved his biggest stunt for the final minutes of the show, bringing Jim Jones onstage to perform his hit “We Fly High,” followed by Juelz Santana with “Dipset (Santana’s Town)” and finally, Cam’ron. If having A$AP’s crew on the bill wasn’t enough shine for Harlem, Drake managed to get all three members of Dipset on stage with him for a memorable moment as they performed “Salute.” While details are still being revealed about the club altercation Wednesday night, Drake did his best to brush off the drama and stay focused on the music. This weekend, MTV News caught up with Cash Money CEO Birdman in Atlanta, where he threw his full support behind Drake. “To me, Drizzy ain’t did nothin’ wrong, he ain’t done nothin’ wrong to nobody,” Birdman said.  “He just doin’ great music. He’s not a reckless guy out there just wildin’ out; he’s a humble kid makin’ great music.” Related Artists Drake The Weeknd

N.O.R.E. Breaks Down Partnership With Busta Rhymes For S.U.P.E.R.T.H.U.G.

‘He’s been the person … who would call me and say, ‘Yo I don’t hear no records on the streets, son,’ ‘ N.O.R.E. tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway N.O.R.E. on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News N.O.R.E. is ready for the next chapter in his career. As half of the Queens, New York, rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga, N.O.R.E. dropped an underground rap classic with pair’s 1997 debut The War Report. As a solo artist on a major label, he’s made his mark with unforgettable street singles like “Superthug” and “Grimey.” Now N.O.R.E. is looking forward to going independent and releasing his S.U.P.E.R.T.H.U.G. album and movie. For the album, N.O.R.E. hooked up with his buddy Busta Rhymes , who will partner with Noreaga on the business end of things. “He’s been the person, when I was away and wasn’t around, who would call me and say, ‘Yo I don’t hear no records on the streets, son,’ ” N.O.R.E. said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday, using his best Busta impression. “He’s my peer and he’s also a fan, but he wants to see me win. So why do anything separate?” N.O.R.E. hasn’t signed to Busta’s Conglomerate record label, but they have joined forces. “I’ve been down too long to be anybody’s artist. So it’s a partnership, Militainment and Conglomerate as partners for the S.U.P.E.R.T.H.U.G. album.” The accompanying film will blend long-form music videos with some acting, similar to what Jay-Z did with his 1998 cult favorite “Streets Is Watching.” The flick will star N.O.R.E., Ice T, Lil Wayne, Slaughterhouse’s Joell Ortiz and Fred the Godson, just to name a few. As far as whether or not he will make another record with C-N-N partner Capone, N.O.R.E. isn’t sure. “We’re straight, we’re brothers,” he confirmed about their personal relationship. “As far as recording, I don’t know yet.” Before he commits to another album, he needs to see Capone exhibit a passion for the music. “He has to love his job just as much as me, and I’m not judging him, but the thing is I actually love this,” N.O.R.E. said. Fat Joe Calls Signing Q-Tip ‘The Smartest Thing Kanye West Ever Did’

‘Q-Tip’s on G.O.O.D. Music — that’s a beautiful thing,’ he tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Fat Joe Photo: MTV News Fat Joe has seen it all. The Don Cartagena has clocked in more than 19 years in the rap game and rubbed shoulders with some pretty iconic hip-hop figures, so when studio pictures of him, Kanye West , Jadakiss, Mos Def (now known as Yassin Bey) and Busta Rhymes hit Twitter last week, Joey chalked it up as another one for the record books. “Hip-hop moments, that’s it. It was just a back-in-the-days hip-hop moment,” Joe Crack told MTV News after a taping of MTV2’s upcoming “Hip Hop Squares.” “For, like, a whole week, we’ve just been vibing, everybody’s been vibing with each other, and it’s a beautiful thing.” Though he wasn’t in the pictures, Joe confirmed Q-Tip was also in those vibing sessions. It’s no secret that Joey Crack is a fan of the former A Tribe Called Quest frontman, and he believes his recent deal with Yeezy’s G.O.O.D. Music will further cement ‘Ye as a musical genius. “Smartest thing Kanye West ever did,” Joe said of the signing. The Bronx, New York, MC wasn’t completely forthcoming about what he has cooking with West and company. Still, Joey did liken the interaction to the days when he would randomly pop up in music videos with 1990s rap staples like Black Sheep, Das EFX and Lord Finesse. “I’m in every Lord Finesse [and] Das EFX video, so it just felt like back in the days, every hip-hop head in New York City getting together with Kanye,” he said. “We were discussing hip-hop politics, who’s hot, who’s the new, who’s this, who’s that, and we just had an amazing time.” In February, Joe told MTV News he was a pretty big Yeezy fan , but the two have never worked together. Whether we’ll ever hear some type of collaboration remains to be seen. “You seen every rapper in that picture, but once you seen Fat Joe in there, you already know what it is,” he said. “You already know it’s official. Everybody’s joining forces, everybody’s vibing with each other, and look, Q-Tip’s on G.O.O.D. Music — that’s a beautiful thing.” What do you think of Q-Tip’s signing to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music? YMCMB ain’t playing NO GAMES! They are definitely going for the gusto by adding stars to their artist roster. They recently signed Busta Rhymes along with Christina Milian, now they maybe adding Ashanti and rock group Limp Bizkit. Peep the BUZZ! “Birdman has made some unique signings in the past, but this one might take the cake. Cash Money Records has added the veteran rock-rap group Limp Bizkit to their star-studded label. Young Money CEO Lil Wayne spilled the beans when he called into New York’s 98.7 Kiss FM on Thursday. “As far as Cash Money, they’re always listening and looking at acts, so honestly, it’s like every other day I hear about somebody new just signed to Cash Money, LB frontman Fred Durst confirmed the signing Friday morning on his Twitter page: “The game is missing danger, electricity, and rock n roll!!!!” Cash Money Limp Bizkit.” Then he followed it with, “Rock sh** doesn’t rock anymore! They say the whole game done went pop so I’m back in this h*! #CMLB.” In addition, R&B songbird Ashanti might join the YMCMB family, as well. “I don’t wanna step across any boundaries, but I think we’re working with Ashanti right now,” Wayne revealed. Pharrell Has ‘Two Really Good Records’ With Mac Miller

‘Mac Miller deserves it. He’s working hard and he’s happy,’ Pharrell tells MTV News of the Pittsburgh MC’s success. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ricky Louis Pharrell Photo: MTV News So what does a #1 album get you? If you’re Mac Miller , it gets you studio time with one of rap’s most storied producers, Pharrell Williams . Less than a week after the Pittsburgh spitter’s debut Blue Slide Park landed the #1 spot on the Billboard albums chart, Mac linked up with the Neptunes hitmaker in a Miami recording studio and got to work. “He came down to Miami. He was like, ‘Yo I want to do something,’ ” Pharrell told MTV News in an interview earlier this month. “He went in and again, just made like two really good records.” No telling where those records will end up, but Miller is pretty excited about the collaboration as well. “just made somethin’ crazy with @Pharrell all I can say is wait til y’all hear this,” Mac tweeted after the session in November. Pharrell and Mac returned to the studio in January, this time with Busta Rhymes, Reek Da Villian and Kendrick Lamar. If the picture that Miller tweeted is any indication, fans can expect quite a bit from the two sessions. While Mac crafted the majority of his Blue Slide Park album with local producers E. Dan and Big Jerm at ID Labs studios, he has also been branching out, clocking in time with some of rap’s most revered beatmakers. Aside from Pharrell, Miller has already recorded with DJ Premier, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Just Blaze. The multiplatinum Skateboard P applauds Miller’s efforts and toasts his recent success. “Mac Miller deserves it. He’s working hard and he’s happy. He’s very thankful, he’s a super humble kid and he deserves it,” Pharrell said. “That’s what the game needed, and it’s just sprouting up everywhere and it’s so awesome for us to all be able to do it.” What do you expect to hear from Pharrell and Mac Miller’s upcoming collaborations?
