Jennifer Aniston: Dating Christopher Gartin?

Is there a new man in Jennifer Aniston’s life? As in an actual new man, not just co-stars she’s supposedly friends with benefits with (Gerard Butler, Bradley Cooper) or ex-husbands she’s sneaking around with ? That’s the rumor, and the new guy is actor Christopher Gartin, with whom she was spotted having dinner last week at her favorite hangout, the Sunset Tower Hotel. If it’s true, the man doesn’t kiss and tell. “No comment,” he said when asked about their status. Either way, Jennifer didn’t seem too happy to see the paparazzi Thursday night as they tried to leave: Jennifer Aniston really wants to keep her life private, or doesn’t want the paparazzi to know she’s dating Christopher Gartin. [Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com] As you can see, the actress ducked and covered her face when photographers caught him driving her home after their dinner together, although who knows why. Chris Gartin seems like a good guy. He is 42, has dozens of credits to his name, hails from New York and was previously married to an event planner. Word is that Jen’s BFF Courteney Cox set them up . Think this is for real Think they’re a good match? How will he react to this week’s tabloid covers proclaiming that she’s having a baby ? We can only wait and see.

‘Lost’ Finale: Experts Talk Impact Of Religion On The Island

‘Lost’ dealt intimately with suffering and redemption, concepts central to Christianity, Buddhism and more. By Eric Ditzian Matthew Fox and Terry O’Quinn in the finale of “Lost” Photo: ABC Christian Shephard. The Dharma Initiative. Japanese temples and reproductions of Egyptian statues. The ever-present questions of fate, faith, suffering, atonement and redemption. Over six seasons of “Lost,” religious traditions were a key component of the show, informing characters’ decisions, shedding light on the mysterious and raising new questions about just what the heck is going down on that wacked-out island. The series finale brought these religious elements to the forefront like never before. It turned out that the so-called sideways timeline in which our Losties had been living alternate lives — their plane landing in safety rather than crashing on the island — was really a sort of way station for souls: Jack, Kate, Sawyer and the rest had collectively created this universe as a way to find one another again, experience an awakening about their island lives and ultimately free themselves from it and move forward into the Great Beyond. But how much of that story line actually lined up with identifiable elements from actual religious doctrines and traditions? Quite a bit, it turns out. In creating their mythology, the minds behind “Lost” sampled from Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Taoism and other traditions. “They were drawing on a number of religious traditions,” James McGrath, an associate professor of religion at Butler University and an avid “Lost” fan, told MTV News. “It didn’t closely resemble any one religion, although there were points of similarity. It was like that ‘Coexist’ bumper sticker . “There’s this Hindu idea of passing into one life and remembering another one,” he continued. “There is also the notion of purgatory, which is largely connected with Christian doctrine and tradition — essentially suffering as a way of atoning for sin and wrongdoing. But that didn’t seem to be a part of the sideways universe. If anything, they seemed to be fairly happy,” McGrath said. “And I suppose you could give a Buddhist slant to it, but in Buddhism it’s that our consciousness perceives reality wrongly. The reality that we perceive, we may create it, but that’s a bad thing. In ‘Lost,’ it was a good thing.” Put another way, taking that tack was how “Lost” gave us a happy ending. But this sort of salad bar-like sampling of religious tradition should not be seen as disrespectful to any one faith. Rather, there’s a long history of such storytelling assemblage. “Myths are always mashups, not just in pop culture, but from thousands and thousands of years of traditions,” explained S. Brent Rodriguez Plate, a visiting associate professor of religious studies at Hamilton College and a big fan of the show. Just look at the Losties’ final meeting place in the finale: an interfaith church with iconography from Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism and more. McGrath also pointed to Jack’s descent into the bubbling source of the Island’s power — a glowing stone hole whose energy is stoppered by a large stone plug. “The technical description of these artifacts would be a lingam and a yoni,” he said. “It basically is the representation of the male and female aspects of the deity, quite common with Hindu religious iconography and connected with sexuality.” And then there is the fact that the sideways Losties recovered memoirs of their other lives. John Hawley, a professor of religion at Barnard College and a specialist in the devotional traditions of North India, sees a connection to Buddhist and Hindu traditions. “In terms of remembering past lives, some of that comes up with the Buddha, when he is said to have had that night of awakening that made him the Buddha,” Hawley told MTV News. “He is said, in the course of that long night [of meditation], to have gone through a whole series of moments in which he remembers all of his past lives. It is a major feature of Hinduism — one of the accomplishments that can be achieved by someone who takes the time to step aside from ordinary, everyday reality and meditate, think and watch things.” Iconography, purgatory, remembrance of other lives — all this is just scratching the surface of how the show explored various religious practices. “Lost” dealt intimately with the idea of suffering and redemption, concepts that are central, in one way or another, to Christianity, Buddhism and other religions, according to the experts with whom MTV talked. And while “Lost” freely sampled from all the various religious principles, Plate sees a unifying theme connecting it all together. “What the show was ultimately about is the fact that we need each other, we’re a community, and we all die,” Plate said. “The final scene — it doesn’t matter if you’re a Hindu or a Jew or a Buddhist — we all die,” he added. And those are probably the deepest shared ideas across the world and history. No religion can deny that we need each other. No religion can deny that we die. The differences come when you try and explain what happened.” What do you think of how “Lost” used religion to tell stories? Share your thoughts in the comments. American Idol Shocker: Goodbye, Siobhan Magnus

We ranked her second after Tuesday night’s performance show , but American Idol viewers had a different idea about Siobhan Magnus: They actually voted out this eccentric singer yesterday, cutting season nine down to five finalists. While it’s true Magnus could rely too much on hitting glory notes, and certainly talked back too much to the judges, at least she brought something unique to the Idol table. With the exception of Crystal Bowersox , can that really be said about anyone remaining? Equally as surprising as Siobhan’s elimination? She was joined in the bottom three by Casey James and Michael Lynche. We’d love for someone to tell us how Aaron Kelly avoided that fate. At least Shakira performed last night. She and her hips always make us happy. She was joined on stage bu Rascal Flatts, and Sons of Sylvia also played for viewers. Check them all out below, and bid farewell to Magnus now…

Jennifer Aniston: Best. Body. Ever.

When in need of some Jennifer Aniston gossip on a slow week: Say she’s pregnant at least or has big “baby news” Say she’s secretly meeting up with / doing Brad Pitt (Or dating Gerard Butler / rom-com co-star du jour) Talk about her “revenge” body or some nonsense Having bled 1-3 dry, it was time for #4 this week for a certain celebrity news tabloid. Having lost a staggering SEVEN pounds, life is grand for Jen! Jen’s easy plan – diet and exercise – may just work for you! There’s little doubt that while recently shooting Just Go With It with Adam Sandler, Jen looked hotter than ever … or at least since the last time this story ran. “She looked as if she’s lost an entire dress size ,” a witness reports. “She was really petite and avoided the food on the craft services table. She has discipline.” Thanks to self-control and a newfound philosophy on eating and exercise, Jen’s achieved her best body ever. Friends say that the actress is “totally ecstatic.” Eh, she looks the same to us. Not that it’s a bad thing. Tiger Woods Lost Its Temper at Masters

1.bp Tiger Woods public apology made last February, he made a vow to show more respect in the game of golf.  This includes fist-pumping, club-tossing, vulgar or irreverent expressions after bad shots. But it’s just a promise. No bone to it. During the third round of the Masters last Saturday, Wood was caught cursing repeatedly at himself when he made 3 bogeys in four holes.  It was loud enough for the microphones to pick it up and was aired lived on CBS. After making a bad tee shot on the par-3 6th hole, Woods closed his eyes in disgust and loudly said, “Tiger Woods, you suck.” With complete impeccable timing, CBS announcer Verne Lundquist chimed in, “I don’t think he’s pleased.” Woods’ shot failed to stay on the top slope of the green and trickled 70 feet away from the pin. He ran his birdie putt nearly 20 feet past the hole and ended up with a bogey four. On the next hole, Woods cursed again after a wayward approach shot. He would go on to card another bogey. It seems that Tiger still can’t control his emotions on the golf course, which isn’t too big of a deal. It was silly that he ever thought he would be able to instantly change years of reflexive golf habits or that doing so would have any bearing on his other issues. It’s also silly that television networks continue to put live microphones on athletes and expect them to speak like choirboys. To their credit, Jim Nantz and Nick Faldo of CBS Sports later addressed Tiger’s outburst during a sit down in Butler Cabin. Nantz, in particular, seemed embarrassed, while Faldo attributed the salty language to Tiger’s usual on-course temper.
