This is sad: A long holiday celebration turned to tragedy for the family of a Bronx grandmother who was struck and killed as she tried to wave traffic away from her car after a highway spinout, her grief-torn daughter said yesterday. Marcia Clarke-Hinton, 50, had just come from visiting her son in California — scoring a last-minute flight home after days of snow delays — and was looking forward to spending New Year’s Eve with family when she was killed on the Hutchinson River Parkway in front of her horrified daughter. Yinka McAlpine-Campbell, 24, said she had picked her mom up at Kennedy Airport and was headed to her Pelham Gardens home when their Nissan Pathfinder hit ice and spun out, coming to rest in a snowbank just before 9:40 p.m. Thursday. The SUV wound up facing southbound on the northbound Hutch, according to cops. “We weren’t going fast, there was a lot of ice and the road was impossible,” a sobbing McAlpine-Campbell told The Post. She said her mom got out of the car — and asked her daughter to get out, too — because she was afraid someone would hit them. But McAlpine-Campbell said she stayed in the car, turning on the hazard lights and honking the horn as she tried to dislodge the car. Clarke-Hinton then climbed a snowbank in front of the SUV, trying “to tell other cars to go around,” her daughter said. Suddenly, she took a step forward. “It’s like she saw that car coming and tried to save me,” McAlpine-Campbell said. The car, driven by Bronx resident John Cirola, 52, slammed into the grandmother. “The car . . . hit her and she flew up as high as the wall,” her daughter said. The force sent Clarke-Hinton flying over the SUV; Cirola’s car then struck the Pathfinder. “The airbag went off, [and] then I was looking for my mom,” McAlpine-Campbell recounted through tears. “Her face was split open. I tried to hug her, and she had no pulse. I saw her die.” Police said Cirola remained at the scene, and no criminality is suspected. No tickets were issued. R.I.P. These fellas sure work fast… they just popped out lil Zachary last week : Sir Elton John and David Furnish are considering plans to become parents to a second child. The couple’s son Zachary was born only a week ago, on Christmas Day, but friends say the pair have already discussed adding to their family. They say that film producer Mr Furnish – who has two brothers, Peter and John – is particularly keen for Zachary to have a brother or sister. And 2013 has already been pencilled in as a possible date for the new arrival. One friend said: ‘Elton and David are both revelling in parenthood. They feel that it has been a true blessing in their lives. ‘David, in particular, now wants more children. As one of three brothers himself, he believes it is important that Zachary is not an only child. ‘He and Elton have already been discussing it and David, especially, believes they should not wait too long.’ It is believed that Sir Elton, 63, and Mr Furnish, 48, have been pleased with the service provided by the Center for Surrogate Parenting (CSP) in Encino, California, which arranged the birth. As a result, it is likely that the same firm would be used for a future child. Zachary was born with the donor egg of one woman before a different woman acted as surrogate. According to CSP, couples often use the same surrogate and donor combination again for a second child, so that the second one is still biologically related to the first, even if the other man’s sperm is used. Also, in high-profile cases, if the surrogate has maintained confidentiality then celebrities would regard her as even less of a risk the second time. Well, good for them…SMH. Source

Richie was put on probation that year in connection with DUI charges she received after being pulled over while driving the wrong way on a Los Angeles freeway. Richie’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, went to court Wednesday morning (December 29) to present the judge with proof that her client had completed the terms of her probation. The verification included a report from the alcohol-education program that the reality-TV star had been attending for the last 18 months. Richie was supposed to end her probation in February 2011, but the judge agreed to terminate it early after ruling that all the terms were been met sufficiently. Earlier this month, Richie and her longtime beau, Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden , finally tied the knot after dating for four years and having two kids together. The wedding took place in California at the home of Nicole’s dad, Lionel Richie. An array of stars helped the celebrate the nuptials, including No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani, celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson and Madden’s twin and Good Charlotte bandmate, Benji. Reverend Run presided over the ceremony. The couple have a 1-year-old son, Sparrow, and an almost-3-year-old daughter, Harlow. The pair made headlines last February when they announced their engagement. Richie broke the news during an appearance on “The Late Show With David Letterman,” while Madden took to Twitter to let the world know. In October 2009, Richie opened up about being a parent. “I couldn’t be happier,” Richie explained to People . “The only thing you want is for your kids to be healthy and happy, and they are. Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest has sold more than $500,000 worth of raffle tickets to give away his 2010 championship ring. A California man, Raymond Mikkael, won the contest on Christmas day. If you remember the uproar that Ice-T’s rock group, Body Count, caused with their incendiary track “Cop Killer” then you can be sure that somehow, someway, the significant rise of police deaths will be tracked back the urban community. Two officers in a remote Alaska town were ambushed as they chatted on a street. A California officer and deputy were killed by an arson suspect with a high-powered rifle as they tried to serve a warrant. Two other officers doing anti-drug work were gunned down by men along a busy Arkansas highway. These so-called cluster killings of more than one officer helped make 2010 a particularly deadly year for law enforcement. Deaths in the line of duty jumped 37 percent to about 160 from 117 the year before, according to numbers as of Tuesday compiled by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, a nonprofit that tracks police deaths. There also was a spike in shooting deaths. Fifty-nine federal, state and local officers were killed by gunfire in 2010, a 20 percent jump from last year’s figures, when 49 were killed. The total does not include the death of a Georgia State Patrol trooper shot twice in the face Monday night in Atlanta as he tried to make a traffic stop. And 73 officers died in traffic incidents, a rise from the 51 killed in 2009, according to the data. Craig Floyd, director of the Washington-based fund, said the rise in fatalities could be an aftershock of the nation’s economic troubles as officers in some communities cope with slashed budgets. She took me in when I was around 16. I was just a musician on the street. I was living from pillar to post. She took me in, she gave me a bedroom, she fed me, she cooked for me, she took care of me. She gave me instruments to play, she took me to all her recording sessions. She took me to concerts, she nurtured me and helped me to become who I am,” Kravitz says.
