Privilege Loses: Twitter Drags NFL Reject Tim Tebow Over Comments On Not Paying College Athletes

Source: Jared Wickerham / Getty Twitter Drags NFL Reject Tim Tebow Over Comments On Paying College Athletes College sports have preyed on underprivileged kids and their families since the beginning of time. Mainly African American kids, under the guise that if they can get to college, do good on the field, and stay out of trouble ,they’ll get to the NFL and make enough money to support their family for eternity. It’s no secret that the money aspect and providing for their family is the main driver of these kids playing college sports. LeBron James and his Undisputed platform have been some of the most vocal on how young adults playing sports in college should be paid for all the money they’re generating. When in college, kids cant receive money based on their skills, name, or likeness, per the NCAA rules. Thanks to LeBron and his platform, all eyes were on California recently as they voted on a bill to allow college players to profit . The bill passed in a unanimous vote of 72-0, stunning everyone. While everyone with common sense is happy that these children now have the opportunity to get paid for their hard work, there is one person not on the NCAA payroll saying differently. . @TimTebow passionately expresses his thoughts on the California Senate passing a bill allowing student-athletes to have endorsements. pic.twitter.com/W5uBW7ePNm — First Take (@FirstTake) September 13, 2019 Failed NFL quarterback Tim Tebow went on ESPN’s First Take to give a white privileged opinion. Tim expresses that he never wanted to be paid in college because it was only about his family members’ favorite college team winning. This might have been the worst take ever on live TV. He is essentially endorsing slavery and is 100% unaware that he’s doing so. Fortunately, Twitter wasted no time ripping him a new one and you can check out all of the damage below. Go on national TV endorsing slavery https://t.co/L08aofRGBf — Jason Maples (@JJMaples55_MST) September 14, 2019 You trippin Tim Tebow https://t.co/zYWyI51IEo pic.twitter.com/OFRc4DZINI — Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) September 13, 2019 Tim Tebow look at this birth certificate….these are reasons why these athletes should be getting paid.. I walk and talk for the ones who look like me…. pic.twitter.com/mn678HRMhn — Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) September 13, 2019 It's also not fair to imply that wanting to be paid for your likeness, means you're a selfish person. — Taylor Rooks (@TaylorRooks) September 13, 2019 I've known 5 college athletes who were homeless at some point prior to college. I learned from Tim Tebow today that those kids, and all like them, would be selfish for taking a small percentage of the billions of dollars earned off their talents. — Josh Moon (@Josh_Moon) September 14, 2019 Tim Tebow out here talking about how college athletes shouldn’t get paid when his parents could afford to send him beer money and he still never got laid — lindsey ok (@lindseyyok) September 14, 2019 Tim Tebow stop with the BS. Nobody trying to hear that when you got College coaches making 9-10 million a year for a decade and Universities making Millions of players! #Paytheathletes — Kendrick Perkins (@KendrickPerkins) September 13, 2019 A couple of things the Tim Tebow story has showed me. A lot of people love capitalism except when it applies to 18-22 yr olds And some are really worried about “how would it even work?!?!” As if schools haven’t figured out how to build spaceships in their athletic depts. — Robert Flores (@RoFlo) September 14, 2019 Just in case anyone is curious, this is what “privilege” sounds like. I guarantee @TimTebow never missed a meal growing up because his parents didn’t have the means, nor does he understand what having to help your mother pay bills so the lights stay on feels like. https://t.co/lpOMu2RqMG — David Mulugheta (@DavidMulugheta) September 13, 2019 A separate point: the only reason Tim Tebow is employed right now is because of his college reputation. Tebow is, quite literally, making money off his college likeness — Jordan Zirm (@clevezirm) September 13, 2019 Florida sold roughly 35,000 Tim Tebow No. 15 jerseys. The royalty for Tebow on those jerseys, if he were able to split it with the school would have been around $50,000. pic.twitter.com/6pMyhohDAH — Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) September 13, 2019 This Tebow slander on the TL is so important. Thank you all. —

Mike Johnson Totally Wants to Bone Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato took  a very bold step this week. And it’s looking like it may soon pay off… … in the form of a red hot boning session with one of America’s most elgible bachelors. As detailed just a short while ago on The Hollywood Gossip, Lovato posted an unedited bikini photo to her Instagram page on Thursday, proudly showing off all her curves for the world to see. “This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited. And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!!” the artist wrote as a caption to this image. Lovato, who has battled substance and self-esteem issues for many years, added: “I just literally sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited – and I hate that I did that but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is, but it’s just not me.” Here’s the picture in question: Lovato has received very positive feedback from various celebrities and social media users in response to this snapshot. But the voice of one stud muffin has stood out in particular. “Look at me like that again,” Mike Johnson wrote in Demi’s comments section. “Love yaself.” Johnson, for those unaware, was a contestant on the most recent season of The Bachelorette. He quickly emerged as a fan favorite — with Lovato herself leading the very public charge of affection over Milke. After Mike was rejected by Hannah Brown this summer, he jokingly asked about the whereabouts of his future wife on Twitter, to which Lovato replied: I’M RIGHT HERE MIKE I’M RIGHT HERE BOO MY MOM ALREADY LOVES YOU TOO. She also told Johnson that would would gladly “accept” his “rose.” Since this amazing exchange, rumors have swirled about Mike becoming the next Bachelor. This, tragically, appears as if it will NOT be the cas e… which is wonderful news for all Demi and Mike ‘shippers out there. “I would definitely take her out for an initial date, yeah. 100% not scared about it at all,” Mike told Us Weekly several weeks ago when asked about Lovato, hilariously adding: “I would be like, ‘Oh My God! Girl, come here.” He later told People Magazine: “She would definitely be cool to reach out to, but neither one of us have reached out to each other. “I think she’s sexy, she’s got a nice little booty on her and she has good voice.” She also has an admirable point of view on life. This is how Lovato concluded the caption to the unedited bikini photo above: This is what I got. I want this new chapter in my life to be about being authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards. So here’s me, unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me when I hopefully give birth one day. It’s such a great feeling to be back in tv/film while not stressing myself with a strenuous workout schedule before 14 hour days, or depriving myself from a real birthday cake rather than opting for watermelon & whip cream with candles because I was terrified of REAL cake and was miserable on some crazy diet shit. Anyway, here’s me. RAW, REAL! And I love me. And you should love you too! Now back to the studio..  I’m working on an anthem. also. Just so everyone’s clear.. I’m not stoked on my appearance BUT I am appreciative of it and sometimes that’s the best I can do. I hope to inspire someone to appreciate their body today too. Colt Johnson: Already Ring-Shopping for New Girlfriend?!

Last month, fans saw that Colt Johnson and his girlfriend seemed to be talking about marriage — or, at least, open to discussing it. Now, things are looking much more serious than just a discussion. Colt is in the market to buy a ring, and he’s not even being subtle about it. Colt Johnson adn Jess Caroline haven’t made things Instagram Official just yet. But they’ve both made it very clear that they’re happily dating — months into a relationship that no one thought would last past the first date. Jess’ Instagram is private and she even showed some semi-public display of affection recently. (We have that photo for you below) And Colt? Well, he leaves brazen comments on her (private) Instagram, making no effort to hide their relationship. Oh, and he’s looking to put a ring on it. “Looking for someone that makes jewelry,” Colt recently wrote in his Instagrami Stories. He continued, imploring any followers with a recommendation to “DM me please.” Alongside his request, Coltee included sketches — concept art — for a ring. It’s not just that he wants to buy a ring. He very clearly wants his followers in a tizzy over whether he’s about to propose to Jess. And he’s getting his wish. We hope that this ring, should Colt get it made and give ti to Jess, will meet a better fate than the ring Colt gave to Larissa when they married. His relationship with The Queen was volatile and deeply toxic for both parties. During a moment of emotional distress after a fight, Larissa actually flushed her ring. She later exposed the ring’s price, feeling slighted that (the notoriously cheap) Coltee had bought the ring on Etsy for a modest price. It looks like Colt is once again choosing a “unique” ring instead of a pricier option. Maybe Jess will appreciate it more. As we mentioned, Jess shared this image — of Colt’s hand on her thigh — on her private Instagram. “To love is to go hand in hand through this strange and magical maze that is life,” Jess reflected in her captions. She continued to approximately quote an existing poem: “It is not to lose sight of the other, but to let him breathe when needed.” “It is facing the fear of the abyss, of truth, of doubt, of certainty,” Jess wrote. She added: “It is embracing tight to cure pain, sadness, failure.” “It is giving a silly and innocent smile in the middle of the day,” Jess concluded. “Simply by knowing that the other exists” A number of fans have expressed surprise that Colt’s other half, his mother, Debbie, seems to be okay with this relationship. We guess that not having Colt’s new lady love move in the day they meet probably helps her get adjusted to the idea. And she may be supporting Colt’s romance with Jess because, at this point, she’ll root for anyone who isn’t Larissa Lima. Will Colt’s eventual marriage to Jess be the milestone that ultimately severs his metaphorical umbilical cord for good? Only time will tell. For now, he still hasn’t popped the question. Amber Portwood to Andrew Glennon: Please Don’t Take My Son!

Amber Portwood is not going down without a fight. Hmmm… okay, fair enough: That may not be the best phrase to use when it comes to this troubled Teen Mom OG star. But the general point remains: Portwood is doing everything she can to remain close to her son. As previously reported, Andrew Glennon has filed a legal motion to take the estranged couple’s one-year old son to California. He seemingly wants to move halfway across the country with little James, likely to try and start over after Amber was arrested on July for felony assault. According to Glennon and the police report from that incident, Portwood attacked both her boyfriend and even her baby (indirectly, but still) with a shoe and then with a machete. For a rundown of all the evidence against Amber, click below: View Slideshow: Amber Portwood: What’s the Evidence Against Her? Now, however, Portwood has filed her own motion in response to that of Glennon. She wants to legally ban him from residing in California with James. “Mother objects to the relocation and believes that it is not in the best interest of the child to relocate to California,” the court papers read. They continue: “Mother requests that Father’s Notice of Intent to Relocate be denied. Mother is requesting that the court enter an order preventing the relocation of the child.” Andrew has alleged that his employment and family are in California, and that he has no ties to Indiana, but Portwood counters this claim as follows: “Father has previously been employed as a day trader which can be done from any location,” adding that Glennon’s basis for his desired move is “disingenous.” There’s also no proposal in Glennon’s official filing for just how he and Amber would co-parent from afar. This is likely because Glennon thinks Amber hates being a mom and is a terrible mom and probably shouldn’t really be an active mom at all. As things stand right now, Glennon has custody of James and Amber is only permitted to see the toddler under the supervision of a court-approved adult. It looks like she may see her son soon, though, because Portwood shared the above photo four days ago and wrote as a caption to it: Love you and see you soon little bubba. Earlier this week, as part of a Teen Mom reunion special, Portwood denied allegations that she used a machete back in July, trashing Glennon for being downright insane . But Andrew then fired back with some very personal and revealing allegations. In a social media rant just yesterday, Glennon told followers about the “the landslide of abuse that I had to endure the past entire year.” “It changed me,” continued Glennon painfully. “She broke me down psychologically. I became more silent, I hesitated before speaking, what she did literally altered my speech pattern. I needed to be prescribed medication for anxiety which I have never had in my life… “I’m not going to be silent until your dust settles. I’ve been silent for too long. The abuse has gone on for far too long.” YIKES, huh? Read all Andrew has to say on this topic below: View Slideshow: Andrew Glennon Details Amber Portwood Abuse, Claims She’s Back on Drugs

The Pescetarian Diet Helped NeNe Leakes Lose Weight, But Will It Work For You?

View post:

Source: Bravo / Getty The only way NeNe Leakes would ever shrink herself is if her waistline is involved! And that is exactly what is happening. In case you haven’t noticed, the Real Housewives of Atlanta diva has lost a lot of late recently, and it’s because she has taken her diet and health much more seriously in the wake of husband Gregg’s cancer crisis. Leakes reveals that she has adopted a pescetarian diet as a way to clean up her health and recently lost 12 lbs.  “I’m not doing anything crazy like doing the elliptical or riding the bike or running. I started being a pescatarian and he was plant-based, so I started there. It did help me and I felt different,” she told Hollywood Life , adding that her goal is to lose a full 20 pounds in the next few months . Clearly, it’s working for her. “I lost a couple of pounds. I’m not a big eater. But what I started to do, was just have small portions. I feel like I eat about four times a day – four, sometimes five – just nibbling on stuff, and I feel really satisfied.” View this post on Instagram All things Swagg. Swaggboutiqueonline.com Grab it. 2 piece set #vacaready A post shared by Nene Leakes (@neneleakes) on Jul 18, 2019 at 3:11pm PDT   So what exactly is a pescetarian diet ? Most importantly, will it help you shed those unwanted pounds? First, the pescetarian diet is someone who consumes a mostly plant-based diet (vegetarian) but also eats fish and seafood, and if they want, dairy and eggs. Translation: That means goodbye to burgers, steak or Popeye’s chicken sandwiches and hello to leafy greens, low-sugar fruits like strawberries and blueberries and salmon.  “Weight loss and weight management in general in this day and age can be challenging, especially if you are eating what we term commercial non-organic ‘feed-lot’ meats that are typically found in the average grocery store. This meat often contains hormones and antibiotics which both increase the inflammatory response in the body as well as can contribute to the breakdown of the lining of our gastrointestinal tracts, which in turn can cause more issues with inflammation, Njeri Jarvis , a registered dietitian, and licensed nutritionist, explained to HelloBeautiful . “Over time this can cause nutrient deficiencies that along with inflammation can contribute to hormonal imbalances making it more difficult to manage or lose weight,” adding, “So, when you remove this meat from the equation by eating fish as your main protein source, particularly those that are cold water and wild-caught and particularly if you are also eating large amounts of vegetables, It can be a weight loss and total body game-changer.” Njeri Jarvis runs Bear Nutrition and Herbs in Washington DC. Her nutrition practice covers a range of health issues like body composition, cancer, autoimmune disorders, endocrine and kidney imbalances, cancer, food-sensitivity, etc. We got a lot of gems from her about why a pescatarian lifestyle may be an ideal option for Black women, and how those of us who are interested can incorporate it into our lifestyles. For starters, fish are a great source of protein, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, Zinc and Selenium. Jarvis explained that Zinc and Selenium are key minerals needed for the body to produce and utilize our body’s biggest detoxifier, glutathione peroxidase . Zinc also plays a role in cell growth, wound healing, the breakdown of carbohydrates, and more. The combination of the nutrients listed above is important for maintaining healthy thyroid function as well. “For Black women, in particular, transitioning to a pescatarian lifestyle also means getting greater amounts of fat-soluble vitamins [Vitamin A, E, D and K]. Food-based vitamin D is essential as is getting doses of sun based vitamin D,” says Jarvis. “Individuals living in the northern latitudes of the planet tend to have lower vitamin D levels, especially if their skin is darker. This puts Black women at risk for low levels of vitamin D.” Researchers at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine suggest higher levels of vitamin D are associated with decreasing risk of breast cancer . This is important as Black women were recently classified as a high-risk group for breast cancer . We know that people who carry excess weight are at higher risk for developing high blood pressure, high blood sugar, type 2 diabetes, etc. In other words, being mindful of what and how you eat is important. Given that Black women disproportionately suffer from all three of those chronic illnesses, this is definitely a way of eating we should consider adopting. B ut there are some factors you should look out for too.  Metal pollutants in marine fish are a global issue. Nearly all fish may contain some mercury, but the FDA has issued a warning for pregnant women, women considering becoming pregnant, nursing mothers and young children to avoid specific fish like shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish.  Opt for low mercury fish like canned light tuna, salmon, pollock, shrimp, sardines and catfish, and keep it to about 8-12 ounces per week. Most importantly, how you prepare it matters too! Salmon doesn’t mean anything if you the only you cook it in a deep fryer. So opt for grilling, pan-searing on the skillet, baking in foil or even an air fryer, which doesn’t rely on unhealthy oils for that crispy texture you may crave.  “Planning is key to transitioning.  First, on your next run to the grocery store, plan and commit to buying only marine protein. Stocking your freezer with good quality plain frozen fish and frozen shrimp is an easy and affordable way to have healthy fish on hand for any family meal,” Jarvis suggests. “Keeping sardines, muscles, oysters canned in olive oil or water is another affordable staple that can be packed in a to-go bag along with a big salad for a healthy mid-day lunch at work or at school. Making tuna salad or preparing salmon cakes is another affordable and easy way to have a tasty meal that fits the bill.” You can also tap trusted women in your life to be accountability buddies. You can schedule workouts together, or even short walks, talk each other off the ledge when you’re not meeting goals or craving something counterproductive, share recipes, and generally be a support system working toward success. If you got it like that, it also doesn’t hurt to consult with a nutritionist. Njeri Jarvis can be reached via her website, which was hyperlinked above, as well as on social media, but you can also check with your primary care physician for trust nutritionists. “I Don’t Pay Attention To The Negativity” Halle Bailey Responds To Criticism Of Her Little Mermaid Casting [VIDEO]

More here:

Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN While the Black community and people with good sense celebrated the news of Halle Bailey being selected to play role of Ariel in  The Little Mermaid,   it also inspired a lot of racists to step forward and share their hate. They were sick about the fact that live-action Ariel was going to be a Black girl. While Bailey has shared that she’s thrilled about the role, people wondered if she’d heard the criticisms from the naysayers. There was a Change.org petition, asking that Disney rescind their decision. On social media, there was a #NotMyAriel hashtag for people who felt strongly about the issue. There were even those who argued that casting Bailey as Ariel would remove representation for red-headed children. I guess no one considered the fact that Black folks can be red-headed as well. For The Children: Quavo Is Making An Animated Kids’ Series Inspired By Atlanta Hip-Hop

Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN Quavo Is Developing An Animated Series About Hip-Hop Quavo , along with Imagine Entertainment co-founder Brian Grazer, are crafting what they call a “transformative franchise” in the animation space. “I have long seen how hip-hop as well as our music ( Migos ) really impacts kids,” Quavo said in a press release on Thursday announcing the new animated franchise series. “I’ve loved animation my whole life whether on TV or in movies and I wanted my first jump into this premium content world to be a show just for kids. It will definitely reflect the creativity, love, and families in and around the NAWF side of Atlanta where we grew up.” The series, which will be aimed at kids ages 8-12, will draw inspiration from the hip-hop scene in Atlanta. It also marks a partnership between Imagine’s Marginal Mediaworks, Imagine Kids+Family, Quality Control Music, and Motown . Quality Control’s Pierre “Pee” Thomas and Kevin “Coach K” Lee will produce the series alongside Dan Altmann and Capitol Music Group’s Brian Nolan and Ryan Allingham. Quavo holds an executive producer title alongside with Grazer, whose long list of accomplishments includes work on Arrested Development , 8 Mile, American Gangster, Empire , and more, earning him four Oscar nominations along the way. When speaking on Quality Control’s expansion into the realms of TV and film, Coach K said that the most important and inspiring aspect of this partnership is the fact that “all kids will be seeing themselves” in the series. “When I was growing up there was very little media that had brown and black skinned kids feeling heard or seen and the ones that did stood out and served as a crucial roadmap through our childhoods,” he said. “I’m about inclusive stories that address all kinds of situations that kids of ALL ethnic and financial backgrounds experience and to give them a common tool to learn and grow.” The series is expected to launch alongside new merchandise and original music from Quality Control, but there’s no official release date as of now.

Mass Shootings Expose Which Presidential Candidates Don’t Support Domestic Terrorism Bills

Originally posted here:

I f it wasn’t clear following last week’s mass shooting in Gilroy, California , this past weekend’s back-to-back weekend shootings in El Paso , Texas, and Dayton , Ohio, respectively, exposed the nation’s lack of laws for domestic terrorism. But with officials announcing that the El Paso shooting that killed 20 people would be treated as domestic terrorism , the deadly gun violence also exposed which presidential candidates have thrown their support behind domestic terrorism legislation that has stalled in Congress. Many politicians and pundits alike tend to use deadly episodes like the three mass shootings in the past two weeks as reasons to ramp up the rhetoric for tighter gun laws, but Senate Democrats have already taken that talk a step further by introducing Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin ’s Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2019 back in March. S.894 has 19 co-sponsors. But that number was only made up of half the presidential candidates who are also Senators: New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker , California Sen. Kamala Harris , Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Bernie Sanders . Conspicuously missing from that list were three other presidential candidates who are Senators: Michael Bennett of Colorado, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. That’s right, Elizabeth Warren, the person who has been lauded for having a plan for everything, has not co-sponsored the fledgling legislation against domestic terrorism, an issue that has been pushed to the forefront in just one week’s time.  Warren did recently denounce white supremacy as domestic terrorism, but her efforts to get a law passed about it have been unclear aside from what appears to be her absence from being involved in the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2019. Meanwhile, the co-sponsorship by Booker, Harris and Klobuchar immediately gives them a ton of political capital on the topic that is bound to dominate future presidential debates and interviews as the country grapples with the fallout from a problem it doesn’t seem properly equipped to answer. However, since Klobuchar has become a fringe candidate whose campaign may not even last until the next debate, Booker and Harris — the latter of whom has flirted with being a frontrunner among Democrats — could emerge as difference-makers on helping to get the domestic terrorism law on the books. There was also the House’s Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2019 for which at least one prominent Congresswoman running for president has not signed on. The Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act is specifically designed to address and specifically NAMES White Nationalism as a terror threat. It only has 10 co-sponsors in the House. Why isn't 2020 candidate @TulsiGabbard on this bill ? https://t.co/YXHVxBegYV — Jason Johnson (@DrJasonJohnson) August 4, 2019 The idea of investigating the El Paso shooting as domestic terrorism was also interesting because even though mass shootings disproportionately waged by white American males have been on the rise for almost a quarter of a century, Esquire reminded readers in June that “the Department of Justice cannot label such acts as terrorism because there is no law under which they can do it.” According to the American Civil Liberties Union, Section 802 of the USA PATRIOT Act expands “the type of conduct that the government can investigate when it is investigating ‘terrorism’” but “does not create a new crime of domestic terrorism.” All of which emphasizes why Durbin’s bill was especially important in the wake of this weekend’s carnage that on face value certainly seemed deserving of being labeled domestic terrorism. The El Paso shooter, who police managed to arrest, reportedly left behind a racist manifesto that indicated he traveled more than 10 hours by car to the border town in order to kill “Hispanics.” Not only does that type of premeditation mandate a hate crime charge, but domestic terror also fits perfectly into that narrative. Aside from the requisite “thoughts and prayers” offered by politicians following mass shootings, it will be interesting to see how sitting U.S. Senators try to explain why they did not co-sponsor Durbin’s bill that has now taken on an added sense of urgency. Sen. Kamala Harris Only Candidate Who Dropped In The Polls After Detroit Debate

D uring the first Democratic debate, Sen. Kamala Harris went viral for holding Joe Biden accountable for comments about segregationists and his policy on bussing. Now, the tables have turned and Harris took a blow in the polls.  See Also: This Colin Kaepernick Retweet Says Everything You Need To Know About The NFL Players’ Anthem Grievance According to the Morning Consult poll, Harris went from 13 to 10 percentage points, the only top eight candidates to drop. Sanders, Booker, Buttigeg, Booker, O’Rourke and Yang all remained the same. Warren went from 13 to 15 percent. Biden went from 31 to 32 percent. Harris’ drop could be due to the attack by Tulsi Gabbard . The Congresswoman from Hawaii said, “Now Senator Harris says she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor and that she’ll be a prosecutor president. But I’m deeply concerned about this record. There are too many examples to cite but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.” She continued, “She blocked evidence — she blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row until the courts forced her to do so. She kept people in prison beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labor for the state of California.” Harris tried to defend herself but Gabbard continued, “The bottom line is, Senator Harris, when you were in a position to make a difference and an impact in these people’s lives, you did not. And worse yet, in the case of those who were on death row, innocent people, you actually blocked evidence from being revealed that would have freed them until you were forced to do so.” WATCH: Tulsi Gabbard brings up Kamala Harris' record as California AG, saying Harris “put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.” #DemDebate #DemDebate2 #DemocraticDebate pic.twitter.com/1634mXChh3 — NewsBusters (@newsbusters) August 1, 2019 Biden got pummeled as well, especially by Cory Booker. When Biden tried to distance himself from Obama’s immigration policies, Booker went in, “You can’t have it both ways. You invoke  President Obama  more than anybody in this campaign. You can’t do it when it’s convenient and then dodge it when it’s not. And the second thing that this really irks me because I heard the vice president say that if you got a PhD., you can come right into this country. Well that’s playing into what the republicans want, to pit some immigrants against other immigrants.” He also said, “Some are from shithole countries and some are from worthy countries. We need to reform this whole immigration system and begin to be the country that says everyone has worth and dignity and this should be a country that honors for everyone. ” Nonetheless, that hasn’t shaken Biden in the polls. College Student In Birmingham Almost Lost Her Job Because She Wore A Headscarf Over Her Coily Ponytail

A Black University of Alabama at Birmingham student says she was threatened with the loss of her job before the school’s human resources office intervened, after she wore a scarf that was not to her employers liking. Felicia Layton, a 21-year-old junior studying kinesiology claim her employers at one of the university’s day care centers sent her home on Thursday because she violated the workplace dress code policy by tying a headscarf around her ponytail, according to AL.com . “APPARENTLY THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND I WILL BE FIRED IF SOMETHING [ISN’T] DONE TO IT (flat iron it) BY TOMORROW!,” Layton wrote in a now viral Facebook post. “I [won’t] say much because [I’m] not even the type to argue with no one about how things that are basically RACIST but being labeled as something else!”   Layton has worked at the daycare since 2017 and went on to say that she was tired from the daily requirements it takes to maintain her 4c hair texture which requires a lot of effort to upkeep. “I HAVE THE MOST 4C hair i have ever seen and baby I can barely put it in a ponytail so if this isnt well groomed and professional enou gh to be at a DAYCARE idk what is! My students and their parents love me & If its a problem with management that my 4c hair to be flatiron or ‘well groomed’ this is not where my hard work needs to be,” she continued.  The post has over 1k shares and 600 comments. Email Submit In an interview with the school’s newspaper Layton said she was also frustrated over what is deemed as acceptable in the workplace when it comes to Black hairstyles versus those of other races. “I feel like the rule is belittling and racist,” she said. “First of all, it’s not ok because the rule was made only for a specific group of people. You’re not going to tell a Caucasian person not to wear a headwrap to work.” Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). After word of the post went viral, Layton updated it to say that the university’s Human Resources office contacted her to resolve the issue. According to AL.com, the dress code violation was no longer in practice. “We are aware of this post and are looking into it now to gather facts,” Paulette Dilworth, Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, wrote in a statement obtained by AL.com. “We take concerns like these seriously and will take appropriate action based on our findings. As an institution, UAB is committed to advancing diversity as a core value and to promoting an inclusive campus with respect and dignity for our faculty, staff and students.” As we know Black women and men are often unfairly policed over wearing their hair the way it grows out of their head due to respectability politics which are birthed in the global obsession over European beauty standards. A number of states including California and New York have introduced and passed anti-discrimination legislation pertaining to natural hairstyles. It may be time for Alabama to get on board as well.
