It’s no secret that black women who date outside of their race are often wrongfully targeted for a number of negative reasons, but one woman shocked a few readers when sharing her experience of constantly being mistaken for a prostitute while out in public with her white husband. via Black Like Moi Jamilah Lemieux at Ebony magazine recently asked women to “RT if you are a Black woman (trans or cis) and have been assumed to be a sεx worker by a White man.” The reaction was jaw-dropping, with women tweeting their experience of having been mistaken for a sεx worker in a variety of different settings. This prompted Maureen Evans Arthurs to share her story of being mistaken for a prostιtute while out with her white husband. “The first time I was mistaken for a sεx worker I was on my husband’s arm at a corporate event in California four years ago. A man approached me, asking if he could buy me a drink. I declined, and he proceeded to whisper to me, ‘How much?’” writes Arthurs. Arthurs, stunned, says she asked “How much for what”, then took one look at the scoundrel and knew exactly what he was asking. She quickly flashed a wedding ring and walked away, but left feeling humiliated. To make matters worse, Arthurs says the assumption that she’s a prostιtute haven’t stopped, even though she and her husband have been together over ten years. “Just last month, at another event, several male acquaintances propositioned me. Comments ranged anywhere from, ‘You’re on the wrong arm, sweetie, I wish I could go home with you…’ to the incredibly forward, ‘We have this whole place to ourselves, it’ll be a shame if we don’t maximize our time here and slip away?’ all said within 10 to 15 feet of my husband.” Crazy, right? A racist California man got into a verbal altercation with two African American men in a McDonald’s parking lot…which quickly spiraled into a physical altercation that ended with him chasing them each down with his pickup truck, killing one, while screaming expletives and racial slurs . And let him tell it, it’s all the president’s fault . Via RawStory : A California man claims he was defending himself last year when he ran over black man, killing him, following an altercation outside McDonalds. Joseph Paul Leonard Jr. burned rubber for 23 feet before crashing into 34-year-old Toussaint Harrison during the June 6, 2013, incident, reported the Sacramento Bee. Leonard, now 62, got out of his pickup and kicked Harrison several times in the head with his steel-toed work boots, authorities said. “Just because we got Obama for a president, these people think they are real special,” Leonard said after his arrest. He had been arguing with two men about 6 a.m. outside a Sacramento-area fast food restaurant, where prosecutors said Harrison and Justin Oliphant had been handing out food to homeless people. Defense attorneys claim the men had stolen the food from a nearby hotel. One of Leonard’s friends said the pair approached her outside McDonalds, and she said he “went crazy and lost his temper” when he came outside. Leonard grabbed a chain from his pickup and confronted the men, the friend said, and surveillance video shows him swinging it around like a lasso over his head. Oliphant said Leonard used racial slurs during the confrontation and stomped on Harrison’s bicycle. One of the men threw a knife and broken bottle at Leonard, investigators said, who suffered a cut on his cheek. The men fled on foot, and Leonard tried to run over Oliphant and rammed into Harrison outside a nearby auto repair shop. An employee grabbed a metal bar from the shop and told Leonard to sit down and wait for police to arrive, and he did. Leonard was quickly taken into custody, and he tried to justify his actions to sheriff’s deputies. “This could have happened to your son if you had one out there,” Leonard said. “This got too out of hand for me, man.” He claimed he feared for his life after one of the men cut him, although Leonard concedes he “became the aggressor.” “I think people are getting tired of being abused by the situation, the way people are being,” he said. “I myself am tired of it. I am victimized every time I turn around.” Leonard intends to testify during the trial, which resumes Nov. 17. His attorney said Leonard plans to explain to jurors that he has previously been seriously injured but no one was prosecuted. But prosecutors say Leonard has previously been a violent aggressor, although defense attorneys have asked a judge to exclude evidence from those cases. Oh sure. Virgin Galactic, the rocket ship owned by Richard Branson on which many celebrities had planned to blast off into space, crashed this afternoon in California’s Mojave Desert. Reports indicate that one co-pilot died in the accident, while others were seriously injured and at least one individual airlifted to a local hospital. Reads a statement released by Virgin: “Virgin Galactic’s partner Scaled Composites conducted a powered test flight of SpaceShipTwo earlier today. During the test, the vehicle suffered a serious anomaly resulting in the loss of the vehicle.” The names of those on board at the time of the accident have not been released. Branson confirmed the tragedy on Twitter, writing: “Thoughts with all @virgingalactic & Scaled, thanks for all your messages of support. I’m flying to Mojave immediately to be with the team.” Virgin Galactic had planned for years to sell trips in which the vehicle transports passengers approximately 62 miles above Earth, allowing them to experience a few minutes of weightlessness before returning to ground. In June of last year, Justin Bieber said that he and manager Scooter Braun had signed on to take one of the $250,000-a-person commercial suborbital flights, even claiming he would love to film a video in space. Also, Lady Gaga had said she hoped to board a Virgin Galactic flight in 2015 and perform a song as part of the Zero G Colony music festival. Weather does not appear to have been a factor in today’s crash, as the rocket had successfully separated from its carrier plane during all of its 34 previous flights. War Machine Attempts Suicide In Jail Cell The MMA Fighter who burst into his ex-girlfriend’s home and beat her within an inch of her life is having a hard time in jail, apparently. He made a near-successful suicide attempt on Tuesday evening before guards found and resuscitated him. Via ESPN : Former MMA fighter War Machine is in medical isolation in a Las Vegas jail after a suicide attempt earlier this week, police confirmed Thursday, according to multiple reports. A Clark County Detention Center guard found War Machine, formerly known as Jonathan Koppenhaver, on Tuesday night after he tried to hang himself, according to authorities. Police said Koppenhaver was unresponsive when found. Koppenhaver’s attorney, Brandon Sua, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the fighter’s vital signs had “completely stopped” and that he was “pretty much dead” when found. Sua also said officials found “multiple” suicide notes in Koppenhaver’s cell. Koppenhaver, 32, is being held without bond on charges of attempted murder, domestic battery by strangulation, first-degree kidnapping and sexual assault, stemming from an alleged incident involving his ex-girlfriend and adult film actress Christy Mack on Aug. 8 at her Las Vegas residence. The professional mixed martial artist faces the possibility of life in prison. A preliminary hearing had been scheduled for Friday, but the Review-Journal reported that lawyers told a judge Wednesday that they wanted to try negotiate with prosecutors. Koppenhaver was extradited to Las Vegas from Ventura County, California, on Aug. 30, after he was arrested in a Los Angeles suburb. Sua told the Review-Journal that his client’s depression and anxiety had “increased since his August arrest.” SMH.
