Music legend Gladys Knight appeared on The Talk yesterday and it didn’t take long for the conversation to turn to the Jackson family and its ongoing drama. Knight especially focused on the recent Paris Jackson versus Janet Jackson feud, with allegedly led to police being called to the scene and included the 14-year old cursing off her aunt . “Paris is 14? How old is Janet? Who’s the one to try to direct the other one here?” the singer asked, adding: “If [Paris] called me that, she would have no teeth … That’s how we were brought up. It looks like the Jackson family drama may be coming to an end. Kind of. Sort of. But probably not. A day after she returned to her grandchildren in California, and a couple days after TJ Jackson was granted temporary custody of Prince, Paris and Blanket, Katherine Jackson has agreed to share legal guardianship of Michael’s three kids. A court filing is expectde to take place next week. “That pleading will essentially now legally reflect how Mrs. Jackson and TJ have often shared responsibilities of raising the children since Michael Jackson’s tragic passing,” Katherine’s attorney, Perry Sanders, tells TMZ. It looks like the agreement will lead to TJ taking on the daily care of his niece and two nephews – a responsibility that will include speaking with “school personnel and anyone else coming into contact with the children,” Perry explains – while Katherine will still control the family allowance. That figure, courtesy of Michael Jackson’s estate, sits at $70,000 per month. Concludes the lawyer: “Mrs. Jackson is extremely pleased with the prospect of enjoying the pleasure of raising Michael’s children without the day-to-day tedium of items such as managing the large staff that goes with such a high profile family and focus her attention on being a grandmother and raising Michael’s children.”
Don Perry, a top level executive in the public relations department of Chick-fil-A, died today of a heart attack. Sad news for Perry’s family and friends no matter what the circumstance, but a noteworthy celebrity gossip story because that chain has come under major attack recently after its President came out against gay marriage. A store opening in California yesterday was met with protest and controversy . In recent weeks, Perry had spoke out on numerous occasions in defense of the company’s practices. “Don was a member of our Chick-fil-A family for nearly 29 years,” said Chick-fil-A in a statement. “He was a well-respected and well-liked media executive in the Atlanta and University of Georgia communities, and we will all miss him. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Chaos In The Jackson Household Reaches It’s Peak As the drama heats up in the Jackson household, big cousin TJ, who was recently revealed as Kim Kardashian’s first love , (Tito’s son) wants to step in and come to the rescue of his three little cousins that are caught in the middle of it all. via TMZ It was all out war at Katherine Jackson’s house in Calabasas Monday … complete with slapping and punching … TMZ has learned. We now have details about the incident. Sources who were there say two SUVs with Randy, Jermaine and Janet inside, followed a car driving Michael Jackson’s 3 kids inside the gates. We’re told Randy, Jermaine and Janet did not have authority to enter. Once on the grounds, we’re told MJ’s 3 siblings tried to strong-arm Paris, Prince and Blanket. Their mission was to get them in an SUV and take them to Arizona, where Katherine has been staying. Our sources say at one point Janet tried to grab a resistant Paris’ cell phone, a scuffle ensued and Janet slapped the teenager, screaming, “You’re a spoiled little bitch!” We’re told Paris fired back with her own slap and told Janet, “This is our house. Not the Jackson family house. Get the f**k out!” At the same time, we’re told Trent Jackson, who was at the house, tried to stop an aggressive Randy and Jermaine. We’re told Trent put Randy in a headlock and punched Jermaine in the mouth. Tito Joe Jackson, aka TJ, the 34-year-old son of Michael Jackson’s brother Tito, is having his lawyer draft legal docs in a bid to become temporary guardian of MJ’s 3 kids … TMZ has learned. People familiar with the situation tell TMZ … Paris, Prince and Blanket all want TJ to be their guardian because they believe Katherine — their current guardian — has effectively been kidnapped by MJ’s siblings. The kids haven’t seen Katherine in 9 days. Under California law, a judge would not grant a temporary guardian for teenagers unless the kids were on board with the selection, and we’re told all 3 kids are down with it. We’re told TJ has often acted like a parent to the kids and they love him. Talk about a family feud! It sounds like the best place for MJ’s kids just might be with cousin TJ. The house, the house, the house is on fire… Man Sets House On Fire After Using Blowtorch On Spider Webs Who needs California wildfires when you can blowtorch your own house ? If Eiliya Maida thought he hated spiders before, imagine how he must feel now. The California man accidentally set his house on fire while using a blowtorch to clear spider webs out of his backyard. The Chico Enterprise Record reports that dry plants in Maida’s backyard ignited as he was attempting to burn the webs. The plant fire then spread to the house, starting an attic fire. Maida was apparently unaware of starting the house fire until his brother-in-law George Basbous noticed the blaze. “And that’s when I went crazy,” Basbous said. Maida’s wife and two children safely exited the house, and no one was injured in the fire. Still, firefighters were forced to cut a hole in the house’s roof to put out the flames. Chico Fire Chief Keith Carter said the fire would have mushroomed if they hadn’t created the hole. Fire Inspector Marie Fickert told the paper that the family has been displaced as a result of the fire, which did approximately $25,000 in damages. It may seem like an unlikely pairing, the academic and author Douglas Brinkley teaming up with one of the world’s biggest movie stars to edit a little-known unpublished novel by the late folk singer/songwriter Woody Guthrie titled House of Earth . But that is in fact in the works. Johnny Depp is partnering with Brinkley whose writings eventually informed documentaries including Spike Lee’s Hurricane Katrina work When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts as well as the 2004 doc Going Upriver: The Long War of John Kerry . Brinkley stumbled upon the work, which Guthrie finished in 1947, while researching an article about Bob Dylan for Rolling Stone. Brinkley happened upon the manuscript and told the New York Times he did not know of its existence. He cited two biographies about the late folk singer, who would have turned 100 this coming Saturday (July 14th), but neither mention Guthrie’s manuscript, which he completed in 1947. The story revolves around a West Texas couple are confronted by banks and lumber companies as they work to build adobe homes as protection against harsh weather. Brinkley and Depp wrote an essay for the New York Times Book Review about Guthrie’s work, describing it as a “portrait” of life in the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression. Pitched somewhere between rural realism and proletarian protest, somewhat static in terms of narrative drive, “House of Earth” nonetheless offers a searing portrait of the Panhandle and its marginalized Great Depression residents. Guthrie successfully mixes Steinbeck’s narrative verve with D. H. Lawrence’s openness to erotic exploration… Guthrie was born in Oklahoma and eventually traveled with migrant workers to California during during the era and was frequently linked to left-wing groups at the time. His guitar often had the slogan “This Machine Kills Fascists.” Exactly how the Douglas Brinkley/Johnny Depp tie-in has been left vague, though one can’t help but think there is a possible movie in the works longterm. The two have known each other since the mid ’90s through Hunter S. Thompson. The two partnered in writing the liner notes on a soundtrack for Alex Gibney’s recent doc Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson .
