Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Concert Film Gets Personal

Trailer for singer’s 3-D flick touches on her divorce from Russell Brand and includes confessions about her career strife. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in the “Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D” trailer Photo: Paramount In between dazzling shots of her onstage, in her music videos and getting dolled up in sparkling costumes, Katy Perry also addresses some real issues in her first full trailer for her 3-D concert film, “Part of Me,” set for release in July. While she doesn’t directly discuss her divorce from actor/comedian Russell Brand in the teaser, the split is referenced by a news headline as Perry is seen getting ready for one of her shows. And that’s not the only personal subject the colorful pop star will open up about in the film. Katy’s Religious Background Perry, now best known for her candy-coated, flirty persona, grew up in a strict, religious family. In the trailer, Perry talks about finding her voice while going to religious services with her family. She says, “The atmosphere I grew up in was 100 percent Christian. I started singing in church; I never really had another plan.” Perry Gets Dropped From her Label While it might seem that Perry went from virtual unknown to chart-topping pop sensation overnight, Perry and her friends open up about the trying time she had between being dropped from her label and eventually finding success. “I was going through some depressing, dark times,” she recalls, “but it’s a journey, and I learned so much from that journey. I feel like a stronger, better person because of it.” California Gurl Live Onstage While the film is about her life behind the scenes, a major part of the movie is her eye-catching California Dreams Tour, which went all around the world in 2011 and early 2012. “You have to be really be grateful and know that it’s a different set of people every single night,” she says of hitting the stage. “My goal when I’m playing shows is just to make people smile.” KP Lives out her California Dreams In the end, Perry’s message is always about living your dream, no matter what strife might come your way. She has this advice for her Katy Cats: “If you have a dream, you gotta go on a journey to fulfill that dream.” “Part of Me” opens July 5. The film was directed by Magical Elves’ Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, who also served as producers on Justin Bieber’s highly successful “Never Say Never” concert movie. “Part of Me” is also the name of the lead single off Perry’s just-released Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection album. E-40 And Bumpy Knuckles Set To Kick Game On ‘RapFix Live’

Over the past two years alone, Bay Area MC has dropped seven LPs. His most recent came in a trilogy, The Block Brochure: Welcome to the Soil, which was released as three separate albums last week. Now, to celebrate, Forty will join host Sway on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live” at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. The Vallejo, California, MC got his start as part of the Click but later signed a deal with Jive and dropped his major-label debut, In a Major Way, in 1995. 40 has since emerged as a cultural ambassador celebrated for not only his music, but his business acumen and knack for introducing unique and catchy hip-hop slang to the world. During last week’s “RapFix Live,” Sway sat down with rap icon Nas and covered his career from his 1994 debut until now, and you can expect a similar analysis of E-Fizzle’s storied career as well. Sway will also explore the creative process behind 40’s groundbreaking Block Brochure release. In total, the three combined albums feature 60 songs and boast cameos from Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, Tech N9ne, T-Pain and Kendrick Lamar. Long Island, New York, MC Bumpy Knuckles will also make an appearance on the show. Bumpy, who also records under the name Freddie Foxxx, recently dropped Kolexxxion, a collaborative album with legendary producer DJ Premier. This guy and his high beams: SACRAMENTO – Police say a California man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public after he jumped onto a Sacramento cop car wearing a sombrero and one boxing glove. Police say an officer was seated in his squad car around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday when 55-year-old Jesse James Thomas approached on foot, CBS Sacramento reports. Police say Thomas jumped onto the hood of the car, yelled his own name and then ran off. He was reportedly described wearing a dark puffy jacket, a sombrero and a boxing glove on his right hand. Thomas was soon found nearby lying in the street and subsequently arrested for public intoxication, reports CBS Sacramento. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on $1,000 bail. Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson: Getting Their Own Place, Vacationing in Mexico!

After a controversial courtship, brief breakup and dubious reconciliation, The Bachelor stars Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson are still giving it a go. The California winemaker, 29, and the model, 28, are moving in together at the San Francisco pad Flajnik shares with two pals, according to Us Weekly . They’re in the process of looking for their own place now, but before they find that nest, the pair went on a sexy vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico . During their five-day break, Courtney Robertson has been showing off her famous figure in a tiny bikini, her shaggy man dutifully by her side at the pool. Although Robertson has dealt with public disdain for her very, very bad behavior on The Bachelor, “she wants to save this relationship,” a source tells Us . Prior to the trip, an onlooker at San Francisco’s Park Tavern observed the engaged pair looking “very snuggly… Ben had his arm around her the entire time.” Robertson is still wearing her 3-carat Neil Lane ring from Chris Harrison Ben, FYI. Bobby Brown Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

Bobby Brown is in trouble with the law once again. The singer was arrested this afternoon in Reseda, California on suspicion of driving under the influence , TMZ confirms, as police pulled the artist over around 12:20 p.m. local time while he was chatting on a cell phone. Brown was then booked and placed in a Van Nuys jail. Friends are reportedly on the way to bail him out as we type. Whitney Houston’s ex, who has not been making positive headlines since his former wife passed away, was also arrested in 1996 on drunk driving charges, eventually serving eight days in jail. In November 2002, meanwhile, he was arrested in Atlanta (mug shots above) and charged with possession of marijuana, speeding and driving without a license or proof of insurance.

Having bought the home in Hertfordshire, England, and then spending millions renovating it just after their lavish nuptials nearly 13 years ago, the estate holds lots of happy memories. However since moving to California in 2007 – when David signed for LA Galaxy – the Beckham brood has settled into life in the Golden State. When David signed a new two-year deal with his soccer team earlier this year he spoke of his love for Los Angeles. “We love living in LA, we love living in America. It’s hard out here for a pimp with an empty tank… California Men Arrested For Stealing $25,000 In Gasoline Two men from California are accused of stealing about 6,000 gallons of diesel fuel worth $25,000 from an Eldridge gas station. The Big 10 Mart reported the fuel missing after it discovered discrepancies in their fuel measurements. Pargat Singh, 44, and Earnest Dickerson, 41, are both charged with second degree felony theft. “They were able to compromise the pumps to get the pumps to turn on and then they would fill their semi up with fuel,” said Eldridge Police Chief David Kopatich. That is all the information that Kopatich will allow KWQC to release about how the two men were able to steal thousands of gallons of diesel fuel from the gas station without anyone knowing. “They’re doing a pretty good job at it. They went undetected for about nine months,” said Kopatich. Early Wednesday morning, an officer spotted the red semi-truck with a white trailer the police department was on the lookout for. Ultra Music Festival’s ‘Best Of Bass’ Pre-Party: Smog Vs. Basshead

By Akshay Bhansali 12th Planet Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images MIAMI — Nestled in a series of rooms at Mekka downtown, Smog vs. Basshead, a party conceived by bass-music champions from L.A. and Miami, on Thursday night again realized a frenzied hands-in-the-air steamfest. For the third year in a row, hundreds of partygoers screamed their lungs out, pumping their arms to the warbles and drum and bass. For all the talk of dubstep and drum and bass being mostly underground, judging by the event’s attendance, the genre is booming — and pioneers like 12th Planet (born John Dadzie), a 13-year California bass veteran and Smog label head, couldn’t be prouder. “It started off as a party at the White Room, and Basshead is a label based out of Miami,” 12th explained to MTV News after his set. “The label actually put out my first dubstep release, so we were kind of always routed together, and we just decided to join forces because, being from California, it’s hard to break into other markets. “We got the opportunity to work in Miami, and the first show was a hit. And the second show, last year, was the biggest Smog vs. Basshead. And then this year, just as many people. So, I’m totally excited — totally stoked.” The world SVB creates bears a comparison to the large-scale EDM event taking place a few blocks away. While the bass get-together might not reach the scale of the Ultra Music Festival , a variety of artists gathered for a series of fiery performances, taking fans into day-break. “It’s just five room of bass — straight up!” 12th proclaimed. SVB featured 16bit, Noah D, Flinch, Jaun Basshead and more. U.K. bass aggregator, feeder and video-sharing community UKF boasted a Pendulum DJ set, Zeds Dead and Kaon Sound. The Trouble & Bass room had Drop the Lime, AC Slater and Toddla T. The Metalheadz room was headlined by Goldie & Bailey. “All these guys making great, great music. We even had Foreign Beggars come down,” 12th said about his former tourmates, an electronic hip-hop collective that recently caught the eye of deadmau5. “They’ve never even played in Florida. I think that is the appeal of this party: You are going to hear the best of bass music.” Miami Music Week is going down, and MTV News is on the ground! The Compton, California, rapper has been candid about his gang affiliations, his tumultuous family life and his beef with rival rappers like 50 Cent. Tonight (March 22) at 9 p.m. ET, Game will once again open up on a new episode of VH1’s critically acclaimed show “Behind the Music.” “I think it’s real big, and I’m so appreciative for VH1 just reaching out to us and sort of just championing my career and appreciating me,” Game told MTV News this morning. Game is a big fan of the show, which has famously profiled musicians like Bon Jovi, Mary J. Blige and Game’s mentor Dr. Dre. “I’ve seen a lot of episodes that were about figures that I thought to be bigger than life. I didn’t think I was halfway there, just 30, and still trying to find my way through hip-hop,” he said. When the show airs, the “Hate It or Love It” rapper will watch on television like so many of his fans. “I haven’t seen any edits or anything. I’m just gonna sit on the couch and watch it with the fam,” he said. “They are so thorough in their interviews and the people they talk to. They went back from the early stages of my life, even earlier from before I was born. They talked to my mom, my parents, my grandmother, so I think there are a lot of things that will be uncovered [that] people will appreciate knowing.” Nas will also be a subject of a “Behind the Music” episode this season, and when thinking about himself in relation to the Queensbridge MC, Game imagines that he is much more open than his friend and frequent collaborator. “I didn’t hold back none. You know me; I don’t hold back anything,” he said. “I can see Nas being a little bit guarded. … You know, Nas is a bit of a thinker. We’ve heard how Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson reacted to seeing the finished film for the first time, and now it’s time to hear what co-star Liam Hemsworth had to say after his first viewing. “It was amazing just to see all the different actors and what they’ve done with it,” Hemsworth told MTV News recently. “Woody Harrelson is one of my favorite actors, and I was really, really excited to see Haymitch come to life. He’s awesome. I’m Team Haymitch all the way; I think he’s amazing. “The movie is intense from beginning to end, and it’s powerful,” Hemsworth added about the finished product. “You have this girl who gives so much hope and courage to everyone, and Jennifer is the perfect person to play it. She pulled it off perfect.” After joking with the Aussie actor about how his brother, “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth , helped him prepare for the initial audition, we asked Liam how he approached his character knowing that, while he doesn’t have a lot of screen time, his role in Katniss’ life is vital. “It does add a little pressure.
