On Saturday, she took to Twitter to open up publicly for the first time since the split. “I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world,” she wrote. “You guys have made my heart happy again.” In another tweet minutes later, she addressed the tabloid chatter that has been swirling around since Brand filed for divorce in Los Angeles on December 30. “Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me,” she said, “Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.” See a timeline of Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s relationship. The tweets come days before Perry is set to make her first public appearance at the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday [January 11] where she’s up for a number of awards. The People’s Choice Awards marks the beginning of a slew of expected appearances from the singer. She’s also slated to make two appearances on her California Dreams Tour later this month, one on January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another on January 22 in the Philippines. Perry’s next awards show appearance could take place February 12 at the Grammys, where she’s up for two awards: Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Firework.” Brand released a statement at the time of the announcement, saying, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. Now that the California breakout singer/songwriter has completed his first tour, he has his eyes set on his first major label release. Ocean sat down with BBC News to talk about the impact of his 2011 free Internet album Nostalgia, Ultra and what fans can expect from his first major-label album. “On this record, on this latest body of work I’ve been doing, I think it succinctly defines me as an artist for where I am right now, and that was the aim, just to make something that represents where you are at that time,” he told BBC News on camera. “It’s about the stories. If I write 14 stories that I love, then the next step is to get the environment of music around it to best envelop the story and all kinds of sonic goodness.” While little is known about Ocean’s next LP, which is due out on Def Jam this spring, the anticipation has been steadily building. After releasing Nostalgia, Ultra, the then-unknown saw his fanbase grow by leaps and bounds thanks to soul-drenched ballads like “Novacane” and “Swim Good.” During his Fall 2011 tour , however, Frank performed two new songs slated for the still-untitled album: “Super Rich Kids” and the bouncy and bassy “Disillusioned.” Whether they make the final track list remains to be seen. Armed Robber Robs Weave Shop “B_tch, My Girl Needs Some New Extensions… Which Ones Are The Best!?” [Video]

An employee of Main Beauty Supply in Dallas was caught off guard when a man robbing the store demanded hair extensions. Benitra Jackson said she was about to close for the night when a man wearing a mask burst into the store and, pointing a gun, demanded her and her manager to the floor. “He was just telling us to get down or he’ll shoot,” Jackson said. In surveillance video you can see the robber forcing the manager to the floor first, then turning on Jackson. “And then he threw me on the floor and told me to put the money in the bag. So I just threw the money in the bag then laid back down on the floor,” she said. Jackson said she gave the robber all of the money in the register, but he wanted more. “He was just saying ‘the change too,’ cause he had kids,” she said. After that, the robber had an even more unusual request — hair extensions. According to a police reporter, Jackson told officers the man said, “My b**** needs some hair extensions, which are the best ones?” “I was like, really?” said Jackson. “I wanted to laugh, but something was going on and I was in shock. So I was like why are you asking me about the most expensive hair extensions? So I just grabbed any kind for him.” Satisfied with the money — and the hair — the robber left. Jackson said she’s thankful everyone’s okay, but hopes to see the robber caught. When it comes to the hair extensions, Jackson is hoping for something else. “Well, I hope she doesn’t like them,” Jackson chuckled.

Via Realtor.com: Up for rent in Beverly Hills, California is a mid-century modern home that is rumored to have once been one of the many properties of American business magnate Howard Hughes. According to the listing agent, the 3,900-square-foot property located in affluent Trousdale Estates enclave, is “said to have been owned” by the legendary mogul and aviation enthusiast, and can be had as a rental for $22,500-a-month. It is entirely conceivable that the aforementioned property was owned by Hughes at some point or another, especially when one considers the fact that the mercurial mogul accumulated a massive real estate portfolio in his years, spending roughly $300 million on properties in Las Vegas, Nevada alone. Either way, the four-bedroom, five-bath offering is a pretty swell mid-century pad, what with its rows of glass walls, posh sunken living room, obligatory wet bar, brick and marble-lined fireplaces and an upper-deck lounge area with views of the city and Franklin Canyon Park. Lacroix/ WireImage Days after it was announced that Katy Perry and Russell Brand are ending their marriage comes word that the pop star plans to attend next week’s People’s Choice Awards . In a Wednesday (January 4) press release , Perry’s attendance was announced alongside Ashley Greene, Nina Dobrev, Liam Hemsworth, Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens, Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence, to name a few. This will mark Perry’s first scheduled appearance since news broke that she and Brand are getting divorced. The show will take place January 11 in Los Angeles, airing live on CBS. The singer is up for seven awards, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Pop Artist and Song of the Year for “E.T.” Perry hasn’t spoken about the split since the holiday announcement ; however, the People’s Choice Awards marks the beginning of a slew of expected appearances from the singer. She’s also slated to make two appearances on her California Dreams Tour later this month on January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another January 22 in the Philippines. Maybe not forever — but definitely not just 14 months.” The source added that despite the trouble, “They were always laughing. They were very affectionate, always holding hands. Kim Kardashian is threatening to take over the 2012 political campaign season. First, Mitt Romney referenced the reality star’s failed marriage in a recent diss of President Obama . Now, an organization of California citizens who are pushing for an initiative in their home state that would raise taxes on millionaire by three to five percent are using Kardashian in an ad. California Citizens Urge: Tax Kim Kardashian! “Not everyone was born a Kardashian, but we all need to pay our fair share,” the spot says, noting that Kim banked $12 million in 2010… but paid just one percent more in taxes than a worker who made $47,000. The Courage Campaign and the California Federation of Teachers are teaming up to raise around $6 billion for public schools and local services through this income tax hike. They hope to get it on the November ballot. “Don’t you think she could pay a little more?” the ad asks of Kim, as images of children, firefighters and an elderly woman flash on screen. “Especially to fund education and critical services?” Do you think Kim Kardashian should pay more taxes?

Over the holiday weekend, news broke that Russell Brand had filed for divorce after a year of marriage with the pop star. And while Perry has remained low-key since the split, she is amping up for what is sure to be another busy year. Perry hasn’t been spotted in public since Friday’s breakup announcement, but she did make some non-relationship-related headlines Tuesday (January 3) when a demo version of the Jessie James track “Bullet” hit the Net; Perry co-wrote the sassy track for the singer’s 2009 album. The singer has two shows later this month — one scheduled for January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another January 22 in the Philippines — as part of her California Dreams Tour. Come February, Perry is set to appear at the Grammys, where she is up for two awards, including Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Firework.” It’s been nearly two years since Perry’s megahit Teenage Dream album dropped. While no word has come down about new music from the star, when MTV News spoke to producer Tricky Stewart , he hinted that Perry was working on a new release of some older material, including a track called “Dressing Up.” “Katy and I went into [the studio] just to address some issues with records that we had done in the past that didn’t end up going on Teenage Dream, ” he told MTV News about the top-secret project. “So we are in the process of just listening and freshening up things and getting ready for something special she has going on.” Perry hasn’t announced plans to tackle any more acting roles, but in 2011, she made fans laugh on the big screen as the voice of Smurfette in “The Smurfs” and as the host of “Saturday Night Live” in December, teasing a possible second career in film and TV. Since the split made headlines, Perry has not addressed the divorce . However, Brand said in a statement, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage.
