Source: Toshi Sasaki / Getty Two Lawsuits Call Out Staff Members By Name Some horrible and shady things seem to be coming to light for a juvenile detention center in New York. According to New York Daily New s , supervisors and staff at the Horizon Juvenile Center were accused in a lawsuit of coercing teens to perform sex acts with them. The suit was filed on behalf of Franklyn Malonado, a teen who spent 2010 through 2014 in and out of Horizon. At the detention center, which holds 10 to 15-year-olds in Mott Haven, supervisors allegedly participated in “grooming” teen boys and girls to have sex with Horizon employees in exchange for things like smuggled booze, cigarettes and food. Former administrative director of residential child care, Tahia Dennis, was one of the supervisor named in the suit. Weeks after being named, Dennis ordered the shredding of internal documents. The content of the documents is unknown, but they could possibly link staff to the alleged abuse. Fortunately, the documents didn’t get destroyed and according to City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), they were seized by management and sent to a locked warehouse. The situation was then referred to the city Department of Investigation. The lawsuit described graphic details of the alleged abuse. In one instance, a female counselor was found naked on top of a teenager in his cell. Malonado says that same counselor told him she would make sure he didn’t face disciplinary actions if he “took care of her needs.” Initially, Malonado’s suit was filed in August of 2017 and it didn’t include names. However, in September of that year, Maldonado’s lawyer, Vik Pawar, filed an updated lawsuit that listed the names of supervisors, including Dennis. Twelve days later, Dennis sent out an email to the detention center’s tour commander and overseer of counselors, writing, “Please begin immediately to shred old paperwork and files that you might have since the building opened. Thank You.” A former employee at Horizon said the documents were shredded soon after the email was sent out, however a spokeswoman for the ACS, Chanel Caraway, told Daily News that none of the records were shredded. “This was part of a routine shredding of duplicate documents, but these documents were never actually shredded and have been stored in a secure location the entire time,” Caraway said. “However, the matter was referred to DOI upon learning of it.” A second lawsuit was filed in May of 2018 accusing certain Horizon staff members of sexual abuse. Miguel Smith, a teen who was at Horizon between 2013 and 2015, said that Dennis and another supervisor would “stand guard” while a female counselor had sex with him. Pawar is representing Smith as well, and he questions the claim that the email shredding order was apart of a routine task. “It says ‘from the beginning’ so they’ll be hard-pressed to explain that they’ve been doing this (shredding) going back,” Pawar said. “I think they’re hiding stuff. I think they got caught with their pants down and they were destroying evidence.” A new ACS commissioner had been appointed since all the alleged abused took place and he said he “ordered a top-to-bottom overhaul of leadership and practices at Horizon.” Meanwhile, the investigation of the staff in the lawsuits continues.
A 17-year-old former Walmart employee skyrocketed to fame last week. In a video that he himself released, he hijacks Walmart's own intercom system to tell the entire store exactly why he's quitting. His expletive-laden rant is followed by applause and cheers from shoppers. Walmart itself is less than thrilled. If you've ever wondered why some employees are escorted from buildings after quitting or being fired, here is why. On Thursday afternoon, a teen named Jackson Racicot uploaded a video of him using Walmart's own intercom system to quit his job. “Attention all shoppers, associates, and management,” the 17-year-old's rant begins. “I would like to say to all of you today that nobody should work here, ever,” he announces. He then accuses: “Our managers will make promises and never keep them.” “[Management] will preach to us about how they care about their employees,” he says. Walmart has been very controversial during the past couple of decades for their alleged treatment of employees. “But about a month ago,” Jackson says. “My boss, assistant manager Cora called me a 'waste of time.'” That is not an acceptable way for one human being to speak to another, especially in the workplace. “And,” Jackson reports. “Management did nothing.” He says that he has worked there for over a year, but can no longer bring himself to work there. “I'm sick of all the bulls–t, bogus write-ups and my job,” he announces. “F–k management, f–k this job, and f–k Walmart,” he concludes. Some may find that the video gives them secondhand embarrassment — perhaps as they recall their own frustrations as teenagers. However, it sounds like his sentiment was well-received by shoppers at Grande Prairie Walmart. One can hear cheers and applause as he walks away from the phone. “I got fed up,” Jackson latere explained in an interview with the Edmonton Journal . “I don't regret what I did,” he affirms. Though he received a lot of support, others warned him about potential backlash for his brazen exit. “I went into this knowing what will happen,” Jackson says. Quitting a job spectacularly may make a splash, but it can also hurt your chances at future employment for obvious reasons. Some even feared that Walmart might try to take him to court over the video — but others suggest that the brand doesn't want additional bad PR. Walmart released a statement in response. “We are aware of the video circulating online,” the statement confirms. “And are disappointed by this incident.” It's unclear whether they're disappointed by how he quit, or by the events that led to it. “Respect for all individuals including our associates and customers is a core value at Walmart,” the statement claims. “We are looking into this matter,” Walmart concludes. “And will address it internally as required.” That is all very, very vague. Walmart may feel tempted to make an example of Jackson to discourage other employees from turning sour grapes into viral fame. That would probably not go over well with the public — though the retail behemoth is no stranger to bad publicity. Many people who have worked in retail or similar positions felt discomfort at the video. Lots of employees have had bad managers — but they've also had bad coworkers who blames managers for calling them out. We don't know what really went on prior to Jackson leaving his job, and we suspect that Walmart wants to find out before they say anything further. For now, Jackson is a symbol of workers who feel used and marginalized by soulless monopolies. But that perception could change.
Things have escalated very quickly between Jenni “JWOWW” Farley and Roger Mathews. In September, the Jersey Shore star filed for divorce . In October, the couple nevertheless celebrated its three-year anniversary together with a publicized night out. In December… Farley and Mathews got into such an intense argument that the former filed for a restraining order against the latter and Mathews blasted his estranged wife as “hate-filled.” Yikes, right? Where do things stand now between the stars? And where do they go from here? Scroll down for an update… 1. How Did This Fight Start? According to various outlets, Jenni and Roger got into it late Thursday/early Friday because JWOWW had to travel again for work and Mathews was sick of her leaving their two young kids, ages two and three. 2. This Has Been an Ongoing Issue for the Couple Back when JWOWW asked for her divorce, insiders at the time explained that her work schedule prevented the pair from spending a lot of time together. 3. But How Did It Spiral Out of Control While they went back and forth, TMZ now reports, Mathews yanked out his phone and started recording his wife. Jenni asked him to stop. He refused. And when Roger went to bed, Farley called the cops and said he was harassing her. 4. Mathews Was Blindsided by the 911 Call And then blindsided even more when authorities escorted him out of his own home and he learned that Farley had been granted an order of protection against him. 5. Why Would Mathews Film Farley? To taunt her and prompt an emotional reaction, Snooki claimed in her defense of her pal. But Mathews has said his lawyer advised him to record all his confrontations with Jenni. 6. This Explains Roger’s Subsequent Rant It doesn’t forgive it, per se, not when he got so cruel and so personal. But if Mathews was booted from his home in the middle of the night and left with the impression that he was restrained from seeing his kids… we can see why he was so angry. View Slideshow
Rob Kardashian has endured quite a number of trials and tribulations over the past Granted, many of his problems are self-created, and the 31-year-old has engaged in some truly deplorable behavior over the years, but there’s still been a great deal of public concern about his apparent self-destruction. One of the clearest outward indicators of his mental health has been Rob’s weight . The former reality star’s size has fluctuated wildly over the years, and insiders say all those ups and downs have taken a tremendous toll on his health. Rob managed to lose a great deal of weight during his relationship with Blac Chyna , but it seems he’s been gaining it back in the years since they called it quits. Rob has been keeping a low profile in recent months, but unlike previous occasions in which he abruptly disappeared from the public eye, insiders say there’s no cause for concern. Rob is apparently steering clear of harmful influences so that he can fully focus on his health. Sources say he reached the decision to change his ways after receiving some very dire warnings from his team of doctors. “He was warned that if he didn’t lose weight, it could eventually become life or death, but since then he lost pounds and feels so much better,” one insider tells Entertainment Tonight. “Rob has struggled nonstop for years with his weight and he finally seems to have turned his life around,” the source adds. “Lately Rob’s friends have been talking about how proud they are of him because he made his health a priority.” “He works out regularly with a trainer and that has made a difference in his shape. He really is beginning to look like the old Rob.” The insider adds that Rob’s family has offered both emotional and financial support, as they don’t want him worried about anything other than getting well. “Kris has been a huge financial support,” the insider says. “His mother purchased part of his sock company, which has helped tremendously. He wants to do more business and has been talking to companies about partnering with their brands.” As for his dating life, Rob is reportedly happily single these days. The source claims he has no intention of re-entering the dating pool until his health and his finances are back on track. “Rob is nowhere near dating anyone right now seriously,” the insider says. “He’s happy to be getting himself back and wants to focus on that now. “Rob has changed and wants to be the best father he can be. He wants to make sure Dream is cared for, so he is working on a plan to make more money.” Sounds like Rob is finally back on the road to recovery. We wish him all the best. Source: Shotbyjuliann / Splash News The Cardi/Offset Argument Explodes In case you’ve missed it, Offset has spent the last week begging Cardi B to take him back after spending previous weeks blaming everyone else for their divorce as if we forced him to text out “New Or Lean.” He crashed her concert and has his Ash Brigade begging her to take him back, too. All of this is leading to big fights and huge arguments on Twitter over who should do what? We gathered some of the wildest, pettiest and argumentative responses to all of this. Take a look.
Source: Via Event Planner KayCee Nwasike / Via Event Planner KayCee Nwasike Ever since Cardi B recently announced that she was divorcing her husband and father of her child, Offset has been doing the absolute most to get her back. He’s taken to social media to blame everyone else for the demise of his marriage, told the world how much he misses her and even recently made a video pleading her to come back and let him spend the holidays with his family. But on Saturday night, he took his public display of nonsense to an entirely new level. During her performance at Los Angeles’ Rolling Loud Festival, the Migos rapper decided to hijack Cardi B during her performance to ask for forgiveness. With a loud and tacky flower arrangement that read “TAKE ME BACK CARDI,” Offset told his wife, “I just want to tell you I’m sorry. You’re my best friend in the world. Whatever I got to do to show I love you, I’ll do.” “I just wanna tell you I’m sorry bruh,” he said. “And furthermore, I love you.” Sigh…who is he calling “bruh”? Thankfully, she let him have it backstage. #Offset offers his apology to #CardiB on stage! Are we here for it? Via: shadylipz/Instagram pic.twitter.com/Qs46Gz4xEE — BET (@BET) December 16, 2018 Wow, Offset really just interrupted Cardi's set to beg her to take him back. This is disgusting and embarrassing. I feel bad for her. pic.twitter.com/ThrVQtnlqU — I Luh God (@aVeryRichBish) December 16, 2018 While there are plenty of folks out there who may find this to be a romantic gesture, I am not here for any of this posturing bafoonery..at all. What Offset did was manipulative, toxic and downright abusive. Cardi B has made it clear that she no longer wants to be with this man, has “fallen out of love” with him and wants to move on with her life. For folks with common sense, this is understandable given that Offset has cheated on her multiple times during the course of their relationship. But Offset isn’t trying to hear that. He refuses to leave her alone and learn from his mistakes. So, he took it upon himself to steal her moment, which was monumental given that Cardi was the first female headliner in Rolling Loud’s 3-year-history. He decided that his needs trumped her feelings, personal space and spotlight. So he came to her job uninvited, ambushing and coercing her in front of thousands of people, thinking she would crumble under the pressure of not wanting to bruise a Black man’s ego in public and essentially take him back. If this isn’t the definition of toxic masculinity, I don’t know what is. Sadly, he didn’t do this all by himself. For the complicit folks at Rolling Loud who knew about this before hand—and even bragged about it on Twitter—and the people close to Cardi who were in on the stunt and didn’t tell her ahead of time, they all need their asses beat too. This did not have to happen in public. Be clear: My critique isn’t about me stanning. I’ve never been a Cardi B fan—I’m still confused at all her Grammy nominations and am often turned off by her online and in-person behavior , especially that NYFW nonsense with Nicki Minaj a few months back. Not to mention, her colorism and past homophobic and transphobic remarks. But what I do appreciate is her come-up story, her resilience and watching her grow as a woman, a rapper and a mother. I want Cardi to be happy, successful and revel in the fact that she knows her worth. But perhaps, that’s the problem. Perhaps that’s why philandering goons like T.I. , The Game , Kirk Frost and 50 Cent continue to berate the 26-year-old for “breaking up her family,” while downplaying the severity that having sex with other women can have on a marriage. Could you imagine if Cardi B would have cheated on Offset? These same “men” would never be fighting this hard for this relationship to work. But I digress. See, folks hate when Black women stick up for themselves, have standards and are empowered in their decisions. In addition, folks routinely shame Black women who refuse to allow their relationships to be solely based on pain, one-sided sacrifice, trauma and infidelity. It literally makes folks’ blood boil to see Black women unbossed, unbothered and happy on their own terms—just ask Ciara . In the end, if Cardi takes Offset back, that’s her own business and I promise not to judge. And while she has asked for folks to not “bash him,” it’s important that we continue to hold this man—and other Black men like him— accountable, an act that too often feels like a rarity instead of the norm. It’s also important that we listen to Black women and remind them that despite what the world may tell them, they are the experts of their own lives and know what’s best for them and their families. Finally, if anything, it’s important for us to use Offset’s behavior as a teachable moment to educate brothas on why this is unacceptable, what healthy relationships and boundaries actually look like, and why Black women are not garbage bags to dump your trashy trifling baggage into. We’re tired of carrying that load, and frankly, we’re entitled to so much better. Somehow, in the year 2018, beauty pageants still exist. It remains a confounding fact that women are paraded around on stage and judged for their bodies and their brief answers to very broad and stupid questions by a panel of random judges. But still… they do exist. And a rather major beauty pageant was held on Sunday night. So… who took home the crown of Miss Universe 2018? Name other than Miss Philippines, Catriona Gray! The new and beautiful champion beat out 93 other hopefuls in a star-studded competition, including runner-up Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green and the second runner-up, Miss Venezuela Sthefany Gutiérrez. The victory caused Gray to break into tears. The theme of the 67th Miss Universe pageant was “Empowered Women” and it was judged by seven women including former pageant winners, businesswomen and a fashion designer. It also included the first-ever transgender contestant. But the 24-year-old Gray – who was born in Australia and studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts – simply would not be denied her moment to shine. Even though Miss USA actually tried to steal she spotlight a few days earler… … but acting like a spoiled American snob. Late last week, Sarah Rose Summers came under fire for making comments about two non-English speaking contestants during one of the show’s rehearsals. Joined by Miss Australia and Miss Colombia in an Instagram video filmed on the preliminary night of competition, Summers spoke openly about Miss Vietnam, H’Hen Nie, and Miss Cambodia, Rern Sinat, and their struggles with English. As you can see below, she mocked their ignorance: Sarah Rose Summers, Miss USA, Mocks Pageant Contestants for Not Speaking English After the video went viral, Miss USA issued the following statement: @MissUniverse is an opportunity for women from around the world to learn about each other’s cultures, life experiences, and views. We all come from different backgrounds and can grow alongside one another. In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize. My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman. I would never intend to hurt another. I am grateful for opportunities to speak with Nat, Miss Cambodia, and H’Hen, Miss Vietnam, directly about this experience. These are the moments that matter most to me. Beauty pageants are dumb and sexist. But that doesn’t mean Gray didn’t deserve to win this one. CONGRATULATIONS!
