Diahann Carroll, an iconic actress who became the first African-American actress to ever lead a broadcast television series, died Friday at her home in Los Angeles. She was 84 years old. The star — who won a Tony Award, garnered an Oscar nomination and made television history with her turns on Julia and Dynasty — had been diagnosed with breast cancer way back in 1997. Her daughter, producer/journalist Suzanne Kay, confirmed the news of her mother’s passing from this disease to The Hollywood Reporter. A native of the Bronx, Carroll was her Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for 1962’s “No Strings.” Her historic break, however, came six years later when she was cast as the first black actress to lead a network series, anchoring NBC’s “Julia” for three seasons. She earned the aforementioned Emmy nod, along with a Golden Globe victory, for this role of a widowed nurse raising a young son. Despite the acclaim she received as a result of this turn, Carroll said years ago that she didn’t want to do it at first. “I really didn’t believe that this was a show that was going to work,” she said in a 1998 chat for the website The Interviews: An Oral History of Television, adding at the time: “I thought it was something that was going to leave someone’s consciousness in a very short period of time. I thought, ‘Let them go elsewhere.'” Respected and admired for opening doors and eyes in Hollywood, Carroll went on to enjoy major roles in classic programs such as “Dynasty,” its spinoff, “The Colbys” and “A Different World.” She also appeared on five epidoes of Grey’s Anatomy in 2006. Other more recent small screen gigs includes recurring roles on Diary of a Single Mom and White Collar. She was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 2011… but she was more than just an actress. Carroll also recorded mumerous albums during her career and wrote the memoirs Diahann, published in 1986, and The Legs Are the Last to Go: Aging, Acting, Marrying, Mothering and Other Things I Learned Along the Way, in 2008. Diahann Carroll is pictured here in her groundbreaking role of Julia Baker. The veteran actress was married four times, her last husband being singer Vic Damone. The couple divorced in 1996 — and she also famously dated talk show host David Frost for several years. She is survived by her daughter and two grandchildren. May Diahann Carroll rest in peace. It’s only been four months since Jim Bob Duggar’s mother, Mary Duggar, died in a freak drowning accident. And now, the family is forced to cope with the loss of another life taken before its time. Multiple sources have now confirmed that Rebecca Waller was killed in a traffic accident near her home in Harris, Minnesota on Wednesday. She was 22 years old. Rebecca is the sister-in-law of Anna’s sister Priscilla Waller. Priscilla’s husband, David Waller, shared the news of his sister’s passing on social media: “With heavy hearts, we received a phone call today that David’s youngest sister, Rebecca went home to heaven today, October 2, at around 8:30 a.m.,” he wrote. “The twenty-two years of life that God gave us with her seem so short, but in light of eternity all of our lives are short.” Waller continued: “The most important thing is a relationship with Jesus Christ that Rebecca evidenced by the fruit of her life. “She is in heaven today, not because she was a good person, but because she trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior,” he added. “The instant her car was struck, she passed from earth to heaven and is in the presence of the Lord.” According to police reports obtained by Radar Online, Rebecca was killed instantly when she was struck by two cars after running a red light and attempting to “cross westbound traffic.” While Anna lived far away from her Minnesota relatives, insiders say she has always maintained close relationships with her siblings and their spouses. Currently, Anna is expecting her sixth child , and this is the second loss she has suffered during the pregnancy. Anna has paid tribute to Mary Duggar numerous times on social media, and those who know the family best say she was especially close to the woman whom she thought of not as an in-law, but as her own grandmother. Anna has not yet spoken publicly about the loss of her brother-in-law’s wife, but knowing how important familial bonds are within the Duggar clan, it’s safe to assume she’s overcome with grief. Our thoughts go out to the Duggar and Waller families during this difficult time. View Slideshow: The Duggars: Who’s Courting? Pregnant? Next In Line? [THE UPDATES KEEP COMING!]
Nick Cannon has more serious beefs than shading Kylie Jenner and Danielle Bregoli. Nick is nursing an 11-year-old grudge. He’s been feuding with Eminem since 2008, when the infamous rapper took cheap shots at Nick’s then-wife, Mariah Carey. More than a decade later, Nick is making it clear that he still feels that Eminem needs to be held accountable for what he said. Speaking on T.I.’s podcast ExpediTIously , Nick Cannon opens up about his longstanding resentment towards Eminem. He clearly doesn’t like that the rapper never met up with him to settle things. “He didn’t wanna battle me,” Nick observes. He says that: “it could have went down.” “I was like, whatever he wanna do, I’m with it,” Nick shares. The feud began in 2008, shortly after Nick and Mariah had first married. “I think we were flying back on a jet from Africa or somewhere,” Nick recalls. “And this motherf–ker drops a song, like, talking s–t,” he complains. Within that song, Nick accuses, Eminem was “Calling her [Mariah] all kinds of b–ches and hoes.” Well, that’s enough to upset anyone, but especially her husband. Nick recalls his furious response: “I’m like, ‘this is my wife. This is my new wife.'” “I wrote a letter first,” he reveals. A letter ? We suppose that the telegram lines were down. “I don’t even know if Twitter had come out yet,” Nixk admits. Twitter came out in 2008, but existing and being popular are not the same thing. “So, I wrote this long-ass letter,” Nick relates. Within the letter, the content was “pretty much saying, ‘look, I respect you as an artist.'” That’s a great way to get off on the right foot. “‘I’m actually a fan,” Nick admitted within the message. “And,” he told Eminem at the time. “I think you’re one of the best ever to do it.” “But from man to man,” Nick wrote. “You are talking out of pocket to my wife.” “You gotta be held accountable for that,” Nick expresses. Goodness. If this were ye olden times, Nick would have had to strike Eminem across the face with a fancy glove to challenge him to a duel. “So,” Nick recalls telling him. “I need to see you face-to-face.'” He even says that he “went looking for” Eminem. Again, this is some straight-up feudal era knights-of-honor nonsense. Nick even says that he would have flown to Detroit for this confrontation. “I was like, look, if you wanna get on the phone, if I gotta go to Detroit,” Nick recalls. This guy was big mad . “You done disrespected my wife,” he explains. Nick explains his extreme fixation: “I gotta show my wife I’m a man, number one.” Toxic masculinity ruins the party once again, we see. “And two, he said my name,” Nick notes. Which summons him instantly. Like Beetlejuice. Nick concludes: “I said, ‘I know I’m not going to be able to out rap you, but I will whoop your ass.'” Well, we’ll say this much for Nick Cannon: He has a very grounded and realistic estimation of his abilities. It sounds like Eminem does, too, which is probably why he never went face-to-face with Nick to square things away. View Slideshow: 21 Celebrity Feuds We Never Saw Coming
Source: WENN.com / WENN LaVar Ball and his overbearing presence in directing the basketball careers of his three sons cast a shadow on their potential trajectory, although he managed to craft business deals with them in mind. Now, a former business partner is excusing the Ball family patriarch of embezzling funds from the family’s various business holdings. The Blast shares in a new report that Ball’s former business associate, Alan Foster, filed suit and alleged that the father of Lonzo, LiMelo, and LiAngelo Ball has been pilfering funds from the business to fund his own personal needs. Foster was a partner in the Big Baller Brand athletic brand, and the Ball Sports Group, a sports and entertainment company. From The Blast : According to Foster, “In early 2016, in furtherance of LaVar’s intense desire to share in, or rise above, the glory and spotlight of his sons, LaVar approached Alan and asked for his business guidance on how to monopolize and gain fortune and fame from the names and likenesses of his three sons. In response, Alan suggested that the two men brand the “Ball” family name in order to create basketball and entertainment-related businesses. LaVar loved Alan’s idea and wanted to make sure that he was the biggest star in the family, notwithstanding the fact that he was broke, had no savings, poor credit and zero business acumen.” “LaVar is a liar who fraudulently utilized BBB and BSG to fund his personal lifestyle,” the docs state. Hannah Gosselin’s eldest, twins Mady and Cara, have left for college and are breathing free air for the first times in their lives. While Kate tries to elicit sympathy by mourning Hannah’s absence from family trips, she has another bone to pick. Kate says that the world has been so unfair to her family. Girl, go look in a mirror. Kate Gosselin took to Instagram to share a photo of her eldest daughters. “I love these kids fiercely,” Kate writes, referring specifically to Mady and Cara. “And,” she adds. “I don’t apologize for my tears.” “Times have been so tough,” Kate complains. “And,” she notes. “So needlessly unfair for them.” Awwww, they’re all grown up! Well, you know, they’re adults. “Grown up” seems to start around 30 and it is not as fun as it sounds. “Despite it all,” Kate continues. “They’ve turned out to be such wonderful amazing human beings.” “I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for each of them,” she expresses. Kate looks forward to seeing their progress “once they get away from those who have tried to destroy them versus protect them!” Naturally, she also plugs her show, Kate Plus 8 . Back in May, Mady opened up about how much she and Cara are looking forward to college. “College feels like a place to blend in,” Mady expressed. She continued: “and I feel like we haven’t really had much of a chance to really blend in.” “And,” she stated. “I want to be just like somebody.” You know that you’ve had quite the childhood when your firmest wish for your university experience is anonymity . “I don’t want to know everybody’s name,” Mady continued. She added: “and I don’t want to know everybody’s business.” “And I don’t want everyone to know my name and my business,” Mady emphasized. She’s not quite saying that she doesn’t want to make any friends. It sounds more like she wants to blend into the crowd. “I feel like big college is the way we want to go,” she concluded. “She was not able to come and that’s sad,” Kate said in a recent clip to explain why Hannah was not joining a “family” trip. Kate accused: “That’s the second trip here actually for us that she hasn’t been with us.” “It was sad for us because you know, they’re getting older and they’re making different choices and they’re doing different things,” she said. Kate continued: “And she opted to stay back with her dad, which again, you know, her choice.” “It’s not optimal for mom,” she admitted. “But it’s something that I support and you know, we just adjust and move on.” So what does Kate mean when she says that her two eldest daughters have faced so much unfairness? Does she mean that it’s unfair to be thrust into reality stardom as a child because your parents are thirsty for fame? Does she mean that no child deserves to grow up in an abusive household ? Or does Kate mean that two children would have been enough, and she robbed her eldest twins of any hope of a normal life by having six more? All of these are great point. But because Kate is the culprit in each case, we strongly doubt that this is her meaning. We wish Mady and Cara the very best at their (undisclosed) universities! We’re sure that they have a long road to recovering from having Kate as a mom. View Slideshow: Jon Gosselin: TLC Was Gonna Pay Me $1 Million to Stay Married to Kate!

Source: Chicago Tribune / Getty Jussie Smollet , who will probably always be known as “Juicy Smolliét” thanks to Dave Chappelle , is back in the news once again. The former Empire actor maintains that the alleged hate crime in Chicago actually happened. As captured by The Shade Room , Smollet saw fit to defend himself after YouTube and media personality Derrick Jaxn saw fit to make a joke at the expense of the actor. Jaxn threw shade at Smollett in connection to a TSR story of the young Washington area girl who claimed racist schoolmates cut off her dreadlocks only to retract the story. Jaxn wrote in his reply “Jussie really is a trendsetter” which prompted a response from Smollet. Smollet fired back with, “With all due respect brother, y’all can clown me all you want but my story has actually never changed and I haven’t lied about a thing,” Smollett said. “Y’all can continue to be misinformed, internalized sheep, who believe what actual proven liars feed you or you can read the actual docs. Either way, I’mma be alright. I know me and what happened. You don’t. So carry on. All love.” Okay, then. It isn’t known if Jaxn has responded to Smollet’s classy clap back.
