White Supremacists Release Anti-Andrew Gillum Robocall Featuring Monkey Sounds

More:

A representative for Andrew Gillum  spoke out Tuesday against a White supremacist website’s racist robocall referring to the candidate as a “negro” and “monkey.” RELATED:  5 Takeaways From Andrew Gillum’s Masterful Debate Dismantling Of Ron DeSantis “These disgusting, abhorrent robocalls represent a continuation of the ugliest, most divisive campaign in Florida’s history,” Geoff Burgan told  The Huffington Post  after Gillum’s acclaimed performance during Sunday night’s debate . “We would hope that these calls, and the dangerous people who are behind them, are not given anymore attention than they already have been.” An actor, presumably hired or associated with the Neo-Nazi website The Road To Power, pretended to be Florida’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate during the call. The actor spoke in an exaggerated stereotypical Black southern voice over music from the minstrel era and “Amos ‘n’ Andy,” a TV sitcom that perpetuated several racist tropes about Black people in the 1950s. The person is heard saying, “Well hello there. I is the Negro Andrew Gillum, and I be asking you to make me governor of this here state of Florida.” A screeching monkey sound is also heard on the horrific robocall, which circulated on Tuesday. The robocall refers to Andrew Gillum as a “negro” and a “monkey.” https://t.co/T1Opyvc1nw — NBCBLK (@NBCBLK) October 23, 2018 The ad veers into more terrible territory when the actor describes Gillum’s health care plan as “quite cheap” because “he’ll just give chicken feet to people as medicine.” The call also mentions that Jewish voters will support Gillum because Jews are “the ones that been putting Negroes in charge over the white folk, just like they done after the Civil War.” After the call ends, a disclaimer points out that The Road To Power website and podcast’s name is responsible for the ad. The Idaho-based group has a history of making racist robocalls, including those previously made against Gillum in August as well as in several other states such as Oregon and Virginia. As to whether Ron DeSantis has anything to do with the racist robocall, his camp fiercely denied any connection and denounced the ad in a statement. DeSantis, however, had blown a racist dog whistle with his comment advising Florida voters not to “ monkey up ” the election by voting for Gillum. 5 Takeaways From Stacey Abrams’ Superb Georgia Governor Debate Against Brian Kemp

Read the rest here:

Source: Screenshot/Georgia Public Broadcasting / Screenshot/Georgia Public Broadcasting M ore than anything else, the debate between Georgia gubernatorial candidates in Atlanta on Tuesday night was more like the start of a famous Charles Dickens novel: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness.” In fact, it was truly a tale of three candidates, with one rising above the foolishness with her wisdom making it the best of times for her while relegating her opponents to experiencing the worst of times. At least as far as debates go, that is. Stacey Abrams , the Democratic nominee who could become Georgia’s first Black governor, easily came across as more informed, more measured, more composed and simply more on top of the issues than her two opponents, Republican nominee Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp and Libertarian nominee Ted Metz. The first debate between @staceyabrams and @BrianKempGA tackled hot-button issues like voting access, Medicaid expansion and the candidates' finances. #GAGovDebate https://t.co/Q481cNJh8A — Twitter Moments (@TwitterMoments) October 24, 2018 Abrams had her talking points ready when needed but also was able to naturally improvise with ease in answering a variety of questions. Conversely, Kemp came off as uber-arrogant, angry and, actually, ignorant to the facts, which were repeatedly thrown in his face each time Abrams had to correct him while he was attacking her with false claims. And then came Metz, who was sporting a marijuana leaf pin on his lapel and continuously touted the many miracles that he said hemp use could accomplish. He just seemed happy to be there more than anything else. There were also several moments of levity, whether all of the candidates knew it or not. Like when Kemp inexplicably referenced “Jesus” who lives on “Heaven Street” as an example of attempted voter fraud that he said he fights hard to quash. When you were 18 and the bouncer started quizzing you over the information on your fake ID #GAGovDebate pic.twitter.com/G9lAcn2brf — madison (@succubusspice) October 24, 2018 Yes, he really said that. Of those who have been taken off the voting rolls, @BrianKempGA says people had double names and cites example of a “Jesus” from “Heaven Street.” “They are on the pending list. No one's keeping them from voting. Their Social Security didn't match,” he says. #GAGovDebate — David Catanese (@davecatanese) October 23, 2018 There was also the fire alarm that went off in the studio just minutes into the debate, forcing the moderator to awkwardly take an ill-timed commercial break. Georgia debate on pause — they abruptly went to break after a fire alarm went off in the studio. #GAGovDebate pic.twitter.com/vgJokjhzpj — NewsOne (@newsone) October 23, 2018 But still, there was much to glean from this debate, which was at times very spirited. But in the end, it was pretty one-sided, with Abrams emerging as the clear victor. However, as well remember just about two years ago, good debate performances and solid polling can mean nothing. With that said, here’s are the top five takeaways from Georgia’s gubernatorial debate Tuesday night. Brian Kemp is a voter suppression denier. He simply doesn’t believe it exists, which is especially scary considering nearly half of voters polled indicated they would vote for him. “This farce about voter suppression”… “is absolutely not true,” Kemp said at one point. Metz, whose policies were all over the place, agreed, insisting that voter suppression was “much do about nothing.” Which left Abrams as the lone voice of reason: “Mr. Kemp’s record as secretary of state demonstrates that he does not deserve a promotion in the state of Georgia.” “This is someone who had a woman arrested for helping her blind father vote.” -Stacey Abrams on Brian Kemp's pattern of voter suppression. #GAGovDebate pic.twitter.com/dgUVLWMskf — PIC44 (@Picevol) October 24, 2018 Brian Kemp just actually had the nerve to blame @BarackObama for the voter suppression problems he himself has been responsible for creating in #Georgia . I can't even. #GAGovDebate pic.twitter.com/YE1OlCnDIt — PurpleGimp (@PurpleGimp) October 23, 2018 Stacey Abrams has a comprehensive plan and Brian Kemp doesn’t. She fully explained her policies surrounding healthcare, and Medicaid in particular, which she said she would expand it to help create thousands of jobs while working to save the state’s rural hospitals that were on the brink of closure. “Mr. Kemp does not have a plan for healthcare,” Abrams plainly stated. Kemp is lying through his teeth on Medicaid Expansion in tonight's #GAGovDebate . 470,000 more Georgians would have health coverage with @staceyabrams as governor. https://t.co/5MfQdTR9r6 — Cat Duffy (@catduffy) October 23, 2018 Brian Kemp is a xenophobe. The current Georgia secretary of state was vehement about not allowing undocumented citizens to have a legal path toward citizenship and falsely accused Abrams of encouraging amnesty in exchange for votes. Abrams had her priorities straight, explaining that instead of keeping the undocumented community in the shadows, they could join contributing members of society who could help grow the state’s economy. She said she was also in favor of allowing undocumented immigrants to take advantage of in-state tuition, so long as they were paying taxes. . @staceyabrams #GAGovDebate tonight… addressing voter suppression. Stacey Abrams making sure that every vote that gets cast gets COUNTED!! #Vote #VoteBlue pic.twitter.com/06PU2svf0g — Marketing Gᴜʀᴜs (@MarketingGurus2) October 24, 2018 Kemp is against ending cash bail. Atlanta already ended mandatory cash bail earlier this year, but it has yet to be implemented across the state. Abrams said she would work to make that a reality while Kemp said it was a recipe for disaster, implying he’d rather see poor people continue to languish in jail for what are many times nonviolent and petty crimes. “If you want to help reduce crime, let’s make sure recidivism is part of the answer,” Abrams said. “We need to decriminalize being poor in the state of Georgia.” @staceyabrams is down for ending #cashbail . She’s got the plan. #gapol #GaGovDebate pic.twitter.com/hH5QibbOYa — Black Lives Matter Atlanta (@BLMAtlanta) October 23, 2018 Yes, Stacey Abrams once burned the Georgia flag with a Confederate symbol. And she wouldn’t change a thing. The local journalists asking the candidates questions made sure to bring up that topic du jour at the start of the debate, and Abrams was ready for it. Stacey Abrams asked about the confederate flag protest right off the bat – knocked the answer out of the park #GAGovDebate — DSamp (@the_real_dsamp) October 24, 2018 If you’re covering Stacey Abrams burning a racist flag 26 years ago rather than Brian Kemp saying just last week he’s afraid of black people voting, while he disenfranchises thousands of black voters, you should quit your job. #GAGovDebate — Denizcan Grimes (@MrFilmkritik) October 24, 2018 Didn’t get a chance to see the debate? Charles Sykes/Bravo/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images Blooooop! NeNe Leakes Shades Kenya Moore, Says Kenya’s To Blame For RHOA Situation NeNe Leakes had time to clear the air today about her relationship with Kenya Moore . As previously reported NeNe’s been tweeting about RHOA and shocked fans when she revealed that she wasn’t invited to her ex-costar Kenya Moore’s baby shower. RT @PorozaVuyo : @NeNeLeakes Hello Nene, my name is Vuyokazi, did you attend Kenya's baby shower and did you buy a gift, if yes, what was the gift? Thanks for letting me ask No i wasn’t invited! Remember when she had her surprise wedding without Bravo cameras??? “Bravo, Andy nor myself should be blamed 4 some1 wanting 2 b on a reality show & NOT show their reality!” For those asking, i was definitely being sarcastic the other day but my well wishes were pure & from the heart! Ariana Grande Pays Tribute to Mac Miller One Week After Pete Davidson Split

It’s been one full week since the world learned that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have ended their engagement. The reasons for the split remain mysterious, though some ugly rumors about Pete’s behavior in the final days of the relationship have made their way across the social media landscape. The only thing insiders seem to agree on in accounts they’ve offered to the media is that the death of Mac Miller played a role in Ariana’s decision to end her relationship with Pete. Grande and Miller dated for over two years and parted ways not long before the singer began her relationship with Davidson. Last month, Miller died of an apparent overdose after struggling with addiction for several years. In the wake of her ex’s passing, Grande has made it clear that despite the dissolution of their romantic relationship, her love for Miller remains intact. And she’s once again reminded fans of that fact with her latest Instagram story. Grande posted a video she shot at last year’s Academy Awards. In the video, Miller is seen joking and smiling with Grande’s mother and grandmother backstage. “I should have worn that for the night,” Miller jokes while watching an interview with a flamboyantly-dressed Elton John. At that point, Miller turns to Grande and laughs. The singer overlaid the video with a small heart as a symbol of her affection for the departed rapper. It’s not the first time that Ari has paid tribute to Mac in the weeks since his passing. Ariana Grande Shares Sweet Memory of Mac Miller After grieving away from the public eye for several days, Grande broke her silence last month when she posted the above video of Miller with the following caption: “i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will,” she wrote. “i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do.” “you were my dearest friend. for so long,” she continued. “above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. “i hope you’re okay now,” Grande concluded “rest.” Our thoughts go out to Ariana and all of Mac’s loved ones as they continue to mourn the passing of an incredibly gifted young man. Lily-Rose Depp and Timothee Chalamet: Dating!

While Johnny Depp continues his slow collapse into a morass of self-parody, man jewelry, and strategically ripped denim, his daughter is still attempting to build a life and career for herself far removed from her father’s increasingly long shadow. And she’s well on her way with her first A-list romance: According to E! News, Lily-Rose Depp confirmed that she’s dating actor Timothee Chalamet this week by laying on the PDA during a date night in NYC. Okay, so Chalamet might not be a household name just yet, but the young actor has already built up one hell of a resume. With an Oscar-nominated performance in Call Me By Your Name and a memorable turn in Lady Bird to his credit, it’s only a matter of time before someone casts him as a Jedi or a superhero. This kid is so talented we’re willing to overlook the obnoxious spelling of his first name, which is the highest praise we can think of. Neither party has spoken publicly about the relationship so far, but onlookers say their interactions Monday night left little doubt that they’re an item. “They were very sweet together,” an eyewitness shared with E! News. “They wrapped their arms around each other in line and linked arms the entire time,” the source added. “They seemed very happy to be together.” An insider tells E! that the couple dined on peasant fare, enjoying “fried chicken at a fine dining restaurant.”  “When they left, they stopped on a street corner and shared another passionate kiss,” the onlooker added.  “They huddled together in the rain but loved being outside and were laughing and smiling the entire time. They seemed very into each other.” The enthusiasm about this stylish new couple is reflected in the comments Gen Z-ers are posting on social media: “THEYRE SO CUTEEEE,” one fan commented on Instagram. “Omg omg omg omg yassss,” wrote another user. We hate to rain on anyone’s parade, but Timothee is in for a hard slog if these two get serious. That’s not a knock on Lily, but rather a hard fact about her increasingly unhinged dad. Lily is obviously set for life, but Timothee is just starting out as an actor, and being forced to apologize for every dumb thing Johnny Depp says is a burden no one should have to bear. But that’s a concern for way down the line. We’re just throwing out there because we’re old and crotchety and we need to pass the time until the prune juice kicks in. Do Remember: Nell Carter Explains Why Using Blackface Is Dead Azz Wrong…In 1984

Image via NBCU Photo Bank/Getty Nell Carter Explains Why Blackface Is Offensive On ‘Gimme A Break’ Earlier today Megyn Kelly took to live, nationally syndicated television to pontificate about whether or not white people wearing Blackface is ok. In Megyn’s opinion, it is not. She is wrong. She will get ran down on for trying it. She better know that. It’s f***in’ ridiculous that in 2018 there are STILL salty soup cookies who try Blackface each and every Halloween. Blackface didn’t JUST become wrong in today’s climate of political correctness. It was wrong as hell 34 years ago when people were even LESS conscious of offending others. For reference, peep this clip of Nell Carter breaking down Blackface on a 1984 episode of Gimme A Break . Hey, Megyn, STFU and eat your mayo.

Paperwork Poppy: Tyrese Demands Proof Of Childcare Costs Before He Breaks Off Baby Mama Bag

Image via Mike Windle/WireImage/Getty Tyrese Wants Ex-Wife To Prove How Much She’s Spending On Childcare Tyrese isn’t exactly living his best life, but he’s damn sure not going back and forth with his ex-wife Norma Gibson. According to TMZ , Tyrese is demanding to see proof of exactly how much Norma is spending on childcare for their daughter Shayla. Norma has asked the court to mandate that Tyrese pay $25 per hour in babysitter fees, but Tyrese isn’t sold that she even needs services because she isn’t currently employed. Moreover ‘Rese wants to know if this sitter is a professional and what their qualifications are. Far as he’s concerned, the court never said when or why he has to reimburse Norma. For example, he doesn’t feel that he should have to pay if Norma is paying to go on dinners and other “personal” outings where Shayla can’t come. Kinda sounds like a sneaky way to hate on Norma’s dating life, but we guess the courts will decide what’s acceptable and what’s not. Until then, Tyrese ain’t trying to pay a dime.

Folks Are Pushing Back Against Increasing GOP Early Voting Suppression Efforts

Here is the original post:

W ith early voting underway in several states, voters have been fighting against a growing list of alleged voter suppression efforts by Republicans. In one of the latest examples, Democratic voters on Monday in an Arkansas county were not able to cast ballots for the party’s secretary of state nominee. See Also: Georgia Isn’t Even Trying To Hide Its Racist Voter Suppression Efforts With This Video Republicans—fearful of the impending Democratic blue wave—were desperately using every trick in the book to retain control of Congress and state governments. Suppression efforts targeting Black voters have already been seen in Georgia , where Stacey Abrams could make history as the first African-American woman governor. Voting rights advocates joined a lawsuit Tuesday against Georgia election officials for the unusually high rate of absentee mail ballot rejects. Republican shenanigans at the polls were not limited to targeting Black voters directly but also Democrats in general. In Arkansas, Garland County election officials had to close three early voting sites on Monday because the Democratic nominee for secretary of state Susan Inman was left off of ballots. The Garland County Election Commission left Susan Inman, the Democratic candidate for secretary of state, off the election ballot. Early voting began without her as an option. Sites had to be shut down. Inman says the glitch left her in “sheer disbelief.” https://t.co/5327njPV68 — Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) October 23, 2018 Also on Monday, five students at Prairie View A&M University, an HBCU , sued Waller County in Texas for allegedly suppressing Black voting rights the Texas Tribune reported. Election officials there violated the federal Voting Rights Act by not providing any early voting locations on campus or in the city of Prairie View, according to the plaintiffs. “There is no legitimate, non-discriminatory reason for defendants to deny opportunities for early voting during the first week to plaintiffs and black voters in Prairie View on an equal basis with other non-black voters of Waller County,” the lawsuit states. Yesterday, we filed a suit in federal court against election officials in Waller County, Texas, who have refused to provide any early voting location on the campus of Prairie View A&M University, a historically black university. In Tennessee, Democratic Party leaders found several problems at early voting sites across the state. The list includes poll workers rejecting some registrations if the applicant didn’t check the Miss/Mrs./Mr. box, as well as electronic voting machines that didn’t allow voters to select the candidate they wanted or switched candidate selections. “What troubles us is it seems to be favoring one party and one type of voter over another. It seems to be suppressing voters that would vote for Democrats, voters of color,” party chair Mary Mancini told the Commercial Appeal . Jesus Take The Wheel: Track Star Is Shot Dead Reportedly By Her Sex Offender Ex

FREDERIC J. BROWN/AFP/Getty Images Her Family Releases A Statement Detailing The Incident On Monday night, a University of Utah student was shot and killed allegedly by an ex who lied about his criminal past. Lauren McCluskey , an accomplished track-and-field athlete, was found dead in a parked car near a campus residential hall, according to ESPN . Mark Harlan, the University of Utah director of athletics, released a statement on Twitter about McCluskey’s death. “This news has shaken not only myself but our entire University of Utah athletics family to its core,” he said. “We have university counselors and psychologists on standby to support Lauren’s teammates, coaches and friends. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and all of those dear to her.” McCluskey’s killer was suspected to be Melvin Rowland, who was found dead in a church in Salt Lake City on Tuesday from a self-inflicted gun wound, according to a KUTV reporter . According to KUTV , McCluskey’s parents released a statement sharing the details around their daughter’s death. According to them, Rowland was an ex-boyfriend who harassed McCluskey after she found out about his criminal past: “He lied to her about his name, his age and his criminal history,” the family statement read. “Lauren was informed by a friend about his criminal history, and she ended the relationship with her killer on Oct. 9, 2018. He had borrowed her car, and she requested for the University of Utah police accompany her on Oct. 10, 2018 to get the car back. She blocked his and his friends’ phone numbers and complained to University of Utah police that she was being harassed. Last night a little before 9 p.m., she was returning to her university apartment from her night class and talking to me on the phone. Suddenly, I heard her yell, “No, no, no!” I thought she might have been in a car accident. That was the last I heard from her. My husband called 911. I kept the line open and in a few minutes, a young woman picked up the phone and said all of Lauren’s things were on the ground.” According to ESPN , Rowland was a registered sex offender, who was convicted of forcible sexual abuse and enticing a minor. The school decided to honor McCluskey by canceling morning and evening classes on Tuesday. A vigil is also scheduled for Wednesday planned by The Associated Students of the University of Utah and the Athletics Department.

The Real Housewives of Orange County Recap: Shannon Beador Flips Out

Shannon Beador has been battling to stay in control of her emotions throughout the most recent season of The Real Housewives of Orange County.  With a messy divorce dragging her down, she’s been taking it out on her friends, and things went nuclear on Monday’s episode of the Bravo hit thanks to claims that her attitude, well, stinks.  When the episode got underway, the ladies were still in Jamaica, and Gina Kirschenheiter was still going on about how Beador did not give their friendship a chance.  If you watch The Real Housewives of Orange County online , you know that Shannon has been distant from the new additions to the cast, and despite their best efforts to make friends with her, she’s shut them down at every turn.  Tamra Judge, Vicki Gunvalson, Kelly Dodd, and Emily Simpson started to chat about Shannon’s wellbeing in her company, and things quickly got heated.  “Are you serious? So we’re going to do a goddamn f—— straight-jacket intervention right now? Are you kidding me?” Beador yelled in her defense after being accused of turning to alcohol to cope with everything that’s going on.  “I feel blindsided,” a clearly irate Beador complained as she tried to get away from the situation, and she did not want to be filmed. “I just need a minute. Stop, I mean it. Stop following me, I swear to God, I will take the mic off. You guys need to stop. … I need a minute, and I deserve it,” she continued to yell.  As we’ve reported on several times, Judge felt like Shannon was neglecting her friendships as she has become absorbed by all the things going in her personal life.  “I love Shannon, but the constant negativity and dwelling on things that really don’t matter is tiresome to me,” Judge explained in a confessional, adding: “We all have a hard time when we’re getting divorced. We all have outbursts, I did. But it’s been six months. She can’t keep treating people badly because she’s getting divorced.” “This has been months of buildup. She wants to bitch and complain all the time and not fix anything,” Judge continued. “In her head, she’s the busiest person in the world, and she doesn’t get it. She’s never worked. David took care of everything. … She cries every single night. … I’m legit 100 percent worried about her.” Always one to throw in her two cents, Vicki was there to stick the knife into her pal.  “That was a big red flag for me … it just masks the pain,” Gunvalson stated when the others claimed she was using alcohol to mask her pain. “I think she needs us. … She should get on something because sometimes you can’t handle your feelings,” she continued. “When Don and I were going through our separation and divorce, I did go on an anti-depressant because I couldn’t function, I was crying so much. It got me through the bumps.” “It’s depression, she’s depressed,” added Dodd. “David must have been kind of a saint to stay up with that. She’s a good girl, and I think the world of her. But to have to deal with that day in and day out? It’s got to be draining,” she continued. “I only have to deal with Shannon on a friendship level. I couldn’t imagine being married to that and having to live with that every single day. It affects everybody.” When Tamra and Shannon actually got to chat about how they felt, Shannon was not willing to accept what happened.  “I am so beyond hurt, Tamra,” Beador admitted after hearing that Gina and her friend were talking smack about her. “I drop everything to answer the phone. … I’m a kind friend, and I always want to help,” Shannon said in defense of her actions. “You have no idea what I go through on a daily basis; I don’t even share half the s— with you. Half.” “I hurt. I’m sensitive,” she said. “But I’m excited about my life, and I’ve let you guys know that, so don’t sit there and say I’m goddamn crying every night, ’cause I’m not.” Dodd chimed in, telling her friend to go on medication to help her, but that caused even more problems.  “I’m not going on medication! I’m not doing it,” she shouted. “I am entitled to feel what I’ve been feeling. I’m entitled to feel my pain. … I am who I am, and I’m going through a lot of pain.”  “And I get it; everybody’s going through a lot of pain. …[But] stop acting like I’m some goddamn mental case.” But Judge was not prepared to listen anymore. There’s only so many times you can try help someone who does not want to accept there’s something wrong.  “Then cry every night, I don’t care anymore because nobody can help you,” Judge shrieked. “You don’t want to take any help. I’m trying to help you. Just listen. Stop screaming for one f—— time in your life and listen. Listen! You won’t listen!” “I can’t do this anymore,” Judge yelled at Beador. “You want to be sad your whole life, be sad your whole life. You don’t want any help, don’t get any help. I don’t give a s— anymore. … Nobody can help you. Nobody can give you any criticism. I’m trying to help you.” That was enough for Beador to realize the trip was a bust and she was done trying with the ladies, so she disappeared.  “There’s nothing worse than to feel abandoned and hurt by your friends,” said a deeply concerned Vicki. “I want Shannon to know that I love her and that I’m there for her and she’s going to get through this.” Who knew Vicki was so friendly? But Gina did not seem to care about Shannon at all.  “Why do we feel sad for Shannon?” she asked. “She’s got a lot of money. She’s got business deals. She’s got best friends. Okay, you’re 10 lbs. Overweight. Get over it; you’re not bed-ridden!” What are your thoughts on the big blow up? Hit the comments below.  RHOC continues Monday on Bravo.  View Slideshow: The Real Housewives of Orange County Premiere Just Gave Us So Much More Hope For Season 13
