Happy 30th Birthday, Christina Aguilera!

With the pop icon celebrating a milestone birthday on Saturday, we take a look at the momentous events she experienced over the past year. By Jocelyn Vena Christina Aguilera Photo: Florian G. Seefried/ Getty Images Christina Aguilera has hit a big milestone in her life. On Saturday (December 18), the singer turned 30. Meanwhile, her final year in her 20s was quite a momentous one. MTV News takes a look back on the pop powerhouse’s 2010. Aguilera kicked off the year dropping hints about her album Bionic , sharing that it would be all “about the future,” embracing dance music in a way she hadn’t done with past releases. In March, Aguilera declared she was “Not Myself Tonight” on the record’s sexy lead single. “You will find on this album songs that represent the many sides of me,” Aguilera shared weeks later in a message posted on her website. “I have learned that like all women I am sometimes capable of being superhuman. Like all women I am BIONIC.” As the album’s release approached, Aguilera took a few jabs at those who compared her new tune to Lady Gaga , declaring that her “work speaks for itself,” and before long she was embracing Xtina in her video for “Not Myself Tonight.” In the late spring she then hit up both the “American Idol” finale , where she got teary, and the MTV Movie Awards , where she got sexy . Then, in October, her career took a backseat in the media spotlight when she and her husband, Jordan Bratman, announced that they were divorcing . But as that month became November, the focus went back to her career ventures, including the release of “Burlesque,” her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a performance at the American Music Awards . As the end of 2010 approached, Aguilera released a track with T.I. , had some racy private photos hit the Web , had some people complaining about her sexy performance on “X Factor,” was nominated for a Golden Globe thanks to her musical contributions to “Burlesque” and even had time to find love again. What will Aguilera do in 2011 to top a year as action-packed as this one? Well, fans will have to wait and see, but maybe she’ll kicks things off by taking home a Golden Globe. ‘How Do You Know’ Star Reese Witherspoon Recalls Softball ‘Crash Course’

‘I’m not a ringer or anything,’ she tells MTV News of her newfound skills. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Reese Witherspoon Photo: MTV News Because director James L. Brooks has only made six films in his career, most actors jump at the chance to work with him — as was the case when Brooks approached Reese Witherspoon for a role in the upcoming romantic comedy “How Do You Know.” “[It was] incredibly flattering and terrifying at the same time,” Witherspoon told MTV News recently regarding her reaction to Brooks’ initial interest. “When he called me, I was like, ‘He wants to meet me? And do what?’ We sat down, and he said, ‘I want to write this character, and I want you to play it.’ And I was like, ‘Great!’ And he said, ‘I want you to be a professional softball player. Do you play softball?’ ” ‘Yes, of course I do!’ ” Witherspoon recalled responding — but she admitted to MTV News in a whisper: “No, I don’t play softball. But I learned. I did a crash course with the UCLA Bruins, and they taught me. Three hours a day for four months. They really helped.” Given the fact that there’s not much of Witherspoon’s character playing softball in the film, we wondered what motivated her to commit to such extensive training. “I think it’s a completely different culture growing up as an athlete. You have a completely different high school experience, you have a completely different college experience, your whole career is over in your 30s — that’s just a different life,” she explained. “In a way, it’s almost a suspended adolescence. My character doesn’t really have much romantic knowledge. She’s dated a bunch of athletes on the road and stuff, but she’s never had to be in a real relationship. It was important to assimilate to that culture, because I didn’t know anything about it.” So given her newly acquired skills, can we call on Witherspoon to play on our team in a future pickup softball game? “I’d look really good doing it, because I know how to look good doing it,” she admitted. “I’m just not sure I’d help you win the game. I’m not a ringer or anything. Don’t call me in. I’m not going to help.” Check out everything we’ve got on “How Do You Know.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Today, THG Asks : Does Miley Cyrus deserve the criticism over her infamous bong video? YES by Hilton Hater Legality does not equate to morality. At age 18 and partying in California, no one can argue that Miley Cyrus wasn’t within her rights to smoke salvia out of a bong . But is that the only criteria by which we judge celebrities, whether or not they can get arrested for an act? Miley isn’t stupid. She’s aware that cameras follow her around and that her fans are mostly young girls. In exchange for the popularity and money she’s earned in her career, is it really too much to ask to refrain from harmful acts in public? The law isn’t the issue here. It’s the impression Cyrus gives off. Heck, she could star in an adult film tomorrow and police couldn’t do a thing. But would supporters back this decision, as well, simply because Miley isn’t violating any laws? Miley Cyrus Bong Video NO by Free Britney

‘Everyone is going to get to see how hard a worker she is,’ he tells MTV News of KStew. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Garrett Hedlund Photo: MTV News While Garrett Hedlund isn’t exactly a household name yet, filmgoers will soon be very familiar with him via his two new projects “Tron Legacy” and “Country Strong,” not to mention the upcoming “On the Road” film. When MTV News caught up with the busy man recently, we asked him about the recent uptick in his career — beginning with landing that coveted role in “On the Road.” “It’s the hardest I’ve ever had to work, which is a very good sign,” Hedlund said about the big-screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s tour-de-beatnik classic. “It’s the greatest experience of my lifetime — well, these last couple years have [been]. All these mean so much to me ,with ‘Tron Legacy’ and the world getting to see [‘Tron’ director] Joseph Kosinski for the first time, who I feel is the next great visionary genius,” he said. “For ‘Country Strong,’ I worked six months on the guitar to get that down and to play a country singer with Gwyneth [Paltrow] and that gets to showcase Shana Feste’s incredible talents as a writer/director, because she’s just miraculous. “Now with ‘On the Road,’ getting to work with Walter Salles, who I owe such a tremendous amount to because he gives me so much,” he explained of the “Motorcycle Diaries” director. “He fulfills me with so much other people haven’t been able to do, and he does it so simply.” Hedlund went on to say that “Road” will be full color not black-and-white, which had been rumored, and he called the experience, fittingly, “a long journey.” Regarding Kristen Stewart, Hedlund had nothing but the highest compliments to pay his co-star. “[She is] incredible, and in this, everyone is going to get to see how hard a worker she is, the devotion that she puts into her work,” Hedlund enthused. “And her performance is going to be exposed highly in this.” Hedlund added that the entire cast is packed with talent. “Everybody, Sam Riley is phenomenal, we’ve had a lot of wonderful surprises in having people like Viggo Mortenson, Amy Adams, Elisabeth Moss join us,” he said. “Most recently, Steve Buscemi and Terrence Howard. Alice Braga, it’s been phenomenal, it’s been quite the family.” Are you excited to see “On the Road”? Tell us in the comments! Holbrooke’s Last Words: "You’ve Got to Stop this War in Afghanistan"

In his final words before emergency heart surgery, Richard Holbrooke, the influential U.S. diplomat who died on Monday following complications from the surgery, urged an end to America's nine-year old Afghanistan conflict. “You've got to stop this war in Afghanistan,” Holbrooke told his Pakistani surgeon before entering into surgery according to family members, the Washington Post reports. Holbrooke, a 69-year-old foreign policy veteran who worked in Vietnam as a foreign service member during the war and advised four Democratic presidents, had been serving until his death as special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan in the Obama administration. Though Holbrooke is believed to have seen the war in Afghanistan as winnable, he allegedly struggled in his dealings with the Afghan government – particularly when it came to the country's widespread corruption and lack of functional public services. In a statement, President Obama called Holbrooke, who was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize seven times (including for his work brokering the war-ending Dayton peace accords in former Yugoslavia), a “true giant of American foreign policy who has made America stronger, safer, and more respected.” The president also praised Holbrooke's work in Afghanistan and Pakistan. “The progress that we have made in Afghanistan and Pakistan is due in no small measure to Richard's relentless focus on America's national interest, and pursuit of peace and security,” Mr. Obama's statement read. “He understood, in his life and his work, that our interests encompassed the values that we hold so dear.” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also lauded his work for the administration, and emphasized that while he was a “fierce negotiator,” she considered him “a fiercer friend and a beloved mentor.” “When I came to the State Department, I was delighted to be able to bring Richard in and give him one of the most difficult challenges that any diplomat can face,” Clinton said on Monday in remarks at a holiday reception for the chiefs of diplomatic missions to the United States. “He immediately put together an absolutely world class staff. It represents what we believe should be the organizational model for the future – people not only from throughout our own government, but even representatives from other governments all working together.” “Tonight America has lost one of its fiercest champions and most dedicated public servants,” Clinton added in a separate statement. As special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Holbrooke advised the White House on strategies for brokering peace as well as how to revamp civilian assistance efforts there through diplomatic negotiations, development, and reconstruction initiatives. Though Holbrooke and Afghan President Hamid Karzai were known to have a contentious relationship, the Post reports that Karzai released a statement saying Holbrooke “served greatly the government and the people of the United States.” Senator John Kerry, a Vietnam veteran, also offered his condolences on Monday, calling the end of his career “almost a bittersweet bookend that a career of public diplomacy that began trying to save a war gone wrong, now ends with a valiant effort to keep another war from going wrong.” “Our public careers were intertwined in so many ways, from Vietnam to my presidential campaign to the conflict in Afghanistan, and every step of the way he provided wise advice and intelligent guidance to presidents and statespeople alike,” Kerry said, in a Monday night statement. “He died giving everything he had to one last difficult mission for the country he loved,” Kerry said. The White House plans to release a strategic review of the war in Afghanistan this month, and it is not expected to call for a change in strategy. Though Mr. Obama set July 2011 as the date to begin brining troops home when he announced a troop “surge” one year ago, the administration is now pointing to 2014 as its target date for a significant drawdown of U.S. forces. added by: TimALoftis

I don’t know what this is all about, but I think it’s safe to say that it’s an performance art piece that Eva Mendes came up with to represent the launch of her career, from poor hispanic girl who was destined to strip for 10 dollars a song to rich hispanic girl who ended up stripping in movies for lots and lots of money….you know one of those off broadway shows she wrote to really express herself as an artist….tackling to tough issues in life…like developing relationships with the right penis that lead the a place where the world can jerk off to her titties….I mean what else could this possibly be….
