John C. Reilly: ‘The Older I Get, the Less Interested I Am in Seeing My Movies’

When it came time for Mark and Jay Duplass to choose a leading man for Cyrus , their first studio film, it had to be John C. Reilly. The 45-year-old actor has spent much of his career taking what’s on the page and embroidering it with improvisation and inspiration, and that’s the exact approach the Duplasses have spent their last few movies refining. Whether he’s riffing wildly in Talladega Nights or taking a much more controlled approach (as he does in Lynne Ramsay’s upcoming We Need To Talk About Kevin ), Reilly has the ability to make even the craziest lines and behavior of his characters seem utterly natural. Last week, I met up with him at the Four Seasons in Los Angeles to talk about Cyrus , tease Kevin , and discuss his ever-shifting attitude toward his own work.

JoJo Levesque Bikini Pictures

You might remember little JoJo from back in the day. Well, she’s grown up and hasn’t changed all that much. I thought by now she’d get some bigger boobs, but judging from these bikini pictures she posted on her Twitter , I guess she doesn’t want to advance her career. Anyway, her bite sizes are still somewhat appealing… As a snack.

Lady Gaga Still Does Baseball Games in her Underwear of the Day

The good thing about being Lady Gaga is all the money she is making and attention she is getting when she spent her life being the person no one spoke to all her life. The bad thing about being Lady Gaga is knowing that even when she shows up places in her underwear, something that will get anyone attention if they were to try to pull it off in their life, no one gives a fuck. It’s not hot. It’s expected. She looks disgusting and no matter what stunt she does or how much money she makes doing it, no one will really care cuz she isn’t hot…. So she proved ugly girls can make it, if their target market is gay, but it is official that anything she does, she will be ignored…meaning her career is exhausted and the end is near and that’s some great news cuz a body like this attached to a face like this deserves to be taken out back and shot before it scares the other kids….something her parents failed on doing. Assholes. Pics via Fame

Taylor Swift in a Weird Fucking Bikini of the Day

I have no idea what the fuck is going on in these pictures…I am confused. See I can tell this Taylor Swift is in a bikini, but it’s probably the weirdest, non-erotic bikini I have ever seen. You know the kind of bikini you’d expect your grandmother to wear to the pool in her condo building because she’s still young at heart, but old in body. Shit looks like a fucking girdle, you know like those SPANX shits moms wear to make their pussy gunt look less bloated, and I guess the only explanation is that Taylor Swift has her period…or that she’s just sloppy as fuck disguised in a long and lean body…something we used to call SLIMFATS and I guess it really shouldn’t matter, cuz bikini or high waisted bikini or not…Taylor Swift has about as much sex appeal as 3 days old horse shit, which I guess is okay by her, cuz it keeps her country, and that’s the market she’s trying to appeal to…..but not okay to people who fuck horse shit, cuz you want to get it while it’s still warm and most, otherwise it just crumbles apart…. England need fighting spirit in second Test, says Shontayne Hape

• Hape inspired by ferocious State of Origin game • ‘We can all play better than we did last week,’ he says England’s former rugby league star Shontayne Hape has been fired up to face Australia ever since watching Queensland’s ferocious State Of Origin victory over New South Wales on Wednesday. The Maroons clinched their fifth straight series win after a feisty clash in Brisbane that featured an all-in brawl, an alleged headbutt and numerous punch-ups as passions spilled over. Hape, the former New Zealand league international who will win his second England Test cap tomorrow, has been inspired by the Origin showdown to improve on a disappointing debut. England were too slow out of the blocks in Perth last week as Australia raced into an early 14-0 lead on their way to a 27-17 victory. “I was a bit nervous playing my first Test but with that out of the way I am just looking to put things right, to aim up this week and try to get a win,” said Hape. “I watched the Origin game in the week and that is what we want to bring on Saturday, some fire in our bellies.” The Wallabies were convinced that Martin Johnson would replace Hape with Jonny Wilkinson at inside centre with the aim of improving England’s kicking game and distribution. Hape’s all-round contribution was disappointing but it did not help that England’s game lacked any dynamism as they failed to capitalise on a dominant scrum performance. “Every one of us looked at our individual performance and we can all play better than we did last week,” said Hape. “We just hope we can build on last week’s game. “The forwards did some great work but they did get carried away and we have to talk to them a bit more. Hopefully we can get the backs a bit more ball and try to score some tries. We need to finish off our chances.” England’s captain, Lewis Moody, detected an “air of nervousness” in the changing room before last weekend’s defeat and he believes that contributed to England making such a slow start in Perth. But the inclusion of the Leicester scrum-half Ben Youngs and Northampton’s lock Courtney Lawes, who will both make their first Test starts, has helped inject fresh enthusiasm into the side. And Moody is confident England will come out all guns blazing tomorrow. “After the warm-up tomorrow I will sit down with the lads and make sure everyone is in the right place prior to the game,” he said. “We have been through the situation now when we did have that angst and nervousness which made the first 40 minutes tough. “Ben Youngs and Courtney have come in. They are very talented and excitable young guys and that enthusiasm can spread, which is great. I am excitable at the best of times so when they are excited it is even better.” England rugby union team Australia rugby union team Rugby union guardian.co.uk

Leon Pryce plays underdog to brother Karl before Wigan-St Helens derby

The Bradford-born brothers are on opposite sides in Sunday’s derby and for the first time in years Karl’s Wigan are favourites Leon Pryce believes St Helens are underdogs for Super League derby at Wigan for the first time in his five years with the club, and puts that largely down to Michael Maguire – the Australian coach who has also revived the career of his younger brother, Karl. Despite a Pryce-inspired win against Huddersfield last Friday, Saints are six points behind Wigan, who are aiming to clinch their first league double over their local rivals since 2003. “In the past we’ve always been favourites against them, but this time it’s different,” said Pryce, who joined St Helens from Bradford in 2006. “They’re top of the league and they’ve already beaten us at our place this season. The impact that Maguire has made is obvious. You know when a team is being coached well, and it’s pretty evident with Wigan.” Karl Pryce has been one of the main beneficiaries. The huge 23-year-old three-quarter had endured a nightmare three years since leaving Bradford for rugby union with Gloucester in the autumn of 2006, suffering a serious foot injury that ruined his hopes of successfully switching codes, and continued to trouble him for 12 months after he had returned to league with Wigan. Even last year, he made only four Super League starts. But he knuckled down under Maguire’s infamously tough pre-season training programme, and since being called into the first team in March he has scored 11 tries from seven appearances – four of them against the Crusaders in Wrexham, and a hat-trick at Wakefield last Sunday. “I’m really pleased for him,” his elder brother said. “He just needs to keep his head down and work hard for Maguire, who seems to be the sort of coach who demands high standards all the time. To be honest you can play a lot of years in the Super League and coaches like Maguire who know the game inside out don’t come around very often. Karl’s still young with a hell of lot of time to play, and he can achieve great things.” The Pryce brothers still live near their parents in Bradford and remain in regular touch – on Wednesday night Leon took his two young children around for their regular trip to see their uncle Karl. They have played against each other twice, after Leon had moved to St Helens and left Karl at Bradford, but never in a Wigan-Saints derby – and Karl is still waiting for his first win. “It’s going to be tricky for mum, knowing who to support,” he said. “But I won’t treat Leon any different because he’s my brother – he’s just another body to run over.” Saints have James Graham and James Roby returning from international duty but their coach, Mick Potter, has denied suggestions that Kyle Eastmond may make a surprise return from his ankle injury. Wigan, who are hoping for a 21,000 crowd, have a major injury doubt over their England loose forward Sean O’Loughlin, who suffered a thigh strain at Wakefield, his second game in 24 hours. Lindsay Lohan Tested Negative For Alcohol, Lawyer Says

SCRAM bracelet alarm went off following the MTV Movie Awards, but Lohan reportedly had no alcohol in her system. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan Photo: Jeff Vespa/ WireImage A lawyer for Lindsay Lohan said the troubled actress did not have alcohol in her system when her SCRAM bracelet set off an alarm on June 7 at Katy Perry’s MTV Movie Awards afterparty. Attorney Shawn Chapman Holley told E! Online that a urine test taken shortly after the alert showed a negative result for alcohol. “They did a urinalysis through Medtox labs, and it was indicated conclusively that there was no alcohol in her system at that time,” an unnamed source with knowledge of the test results reportedly told the site. “She was ordered to go right in, and today just got report back and it was negative.” Lohan, 23, who is subject to weekly random drug testing and is not allowed to drink alcohol, remains free on $200,000 bail, a figure that was doubled during a court appearance on June 8 after the SCRAM incident. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office told People that they were not aware of the negative test result. It remains unclear what set off the device, but a DA’s office official previously said that the alert was “an alcohol-related violation.” Lohan’s mother, Dina, has suggested that someone spilled a drink on the device — which is worn on the ankle and calibrated to detect signs of alcohol through sweat — at the party. Holley denied that Lohan had tampered with the SCRAM bracelet. Lohan faces a probation violation hearing on July 6 and could get up to six months in jail if a judge determines that she hasn’t fully complied with the terms of her probation. Lohan has remained quiet about the SCRAM incident and has not spoken out publicly about her recent troubles, but according to Star magazine, she recently broke that silence in an exclusive interview. “Enough is enough,” she reportedly told the magazine. “People should just leave me alone and let me live.” Lohan took pains to deny reports that she fell off the wagon at Perry’s party. “I haven’t touched any alcohol or anything of the sort,” Lohan said. “The lies that get created [are] damaging to my career.” Do you think Lindsay Lohan will ever be able to rehabilitate her career? Kobe’s the Best Right Now, but Not Ever

Filed under: Celtics , Lakers , NBA Playoffs , NBA Finals LOS ANGELES — OK, so he isn’t Michael, and try as he might for the rest of his career, he’ll never be Magic, either. Still, Kobe being Kobe is great enough. Kobe Bryant is great, by the way, even though he spent most of Thursday night inside Staples Center operating as if he were dribbling with one hand on the ball and the other around his throat. Which brings us to a problem for Bryant, especially since his admirable yet unreachable goal is to rise higher than anybody in NBA history. This was a Game 7 — the ultimate of games in sports for the elite — and somebody not named Kobe Bryant was the most valuable player. It was Ron Artest , Bryant’s teammate on the Los Angeles Lakers , and Artest forgot that he only was supposed to be a bit player in Bryant’s show by becoming the more consistent performer for the evening.

‘Karate Kid’ Reboot Has ‘A Different Vibe,’ Ralph Macchio Says

‘They are two different movies with the same story,’ he tells MTV News. By Susannah Gora Ralph Macchio in “The Karate Kid” Photo: Columbia Pictures Thanks to Ralph Macchio , many of us who came of age in the 1980s spent our formative years perfecting our “standing crane” karate technique on the beach, trying to catch flies with chopsticks or searching fruitlessly for a shower-curtain Halloween costume. Macchio’s endearing, uplifting and now-iconic portrayal of Daniel LaRusso, the titular character in 1984’s “The Karate Kid,” helped the film achieve massive commercial success (it grossed more than $90 million in an era when that really meant something and spawned three sequels) and critical respect. The original franchise was a tough act to follow, and yet, Columbia Pictures did just that, with a reboot starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan that debuted at #1 at the box office last week. After attending the remake’s premiere, Macchio said the new film “has a very different vibe.” Indeed, the action has shifted from Southern California to Beijing, the protagonist is a preteen and, uh, nobody’s doing karate (the remake centers on kung fu instead).”It is bigger, the fighting’s more intense, and the landscape is international. It is well-done and effective, as they have stuck to the original’s story points. … They are two different movies with the same story.” He also said Smith and Chan have a nice connection onscreen: “Jaden and Jackie have strong chemistry, which is important.” And what of the fact that the remake focuses on a different martial art altogether? “It’s all kung fu, so the decision to call it ‘The Karate Kid’ is clearly a studio, show-business decision.” Macchio is getting a lot of attention these days from a self-mocking Funny or Die video called “Wax On, F— Off.” The clip is a trailer for a faux documentary, in which the sweet, mild-mannered Macchio tries to jumpstart his career by acting like a bad boy — or his version of it. Featuring cameos from the likes of Molly Ringwald (who deadpans, “He tried to get into the Brat Pack, but he wanted to change the name to the Smile Bunch”), the video “takes shots at me,” Macchio said. “My nice-guy persona, my legacy and youthful-ish looks, and it also comments on scandal and the media.” One image in the video — when Macchio stands in front of the poster of the “Karate Kid” remake and tries, unsuccessfully, to do a karate kick — is both funny and bittersweet. “What makes ‘Karate Kid’ such a timeless story is the relatable human element,” Macchio said of the 1984 film. “We’ve all been the kid attempting to navigate through adolescence and looking for guidance. Having the mentor to help see you through is something we all yearn for when faced with obstacles. Young or old, generations have embraced Daniel and Miyagi — those characters have become a part of everyone’s lives growing up. It’s a privilege to be a part of that magic. Regardless of the success of this remake, the soul, magic and legacy of our original film will always stand.” Susannah Gora is the author of “You Couldn’t Ignore Me If You Tried: The Brat Pack, John Hughes, And Their Impact on a Generation.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Karate Kid.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
