It’s possible that no pop star in history has displayed more candor and openness over the course of their career than Demi Lovato. But it seems that despite admirable confessions about her substance abuse issues and eating disorders, the singer hasn’t always been completely honest with her fans — and she’s trying to correct that now. Back in May, Demi posted some bikini pics from her vacation to Bora Bora. But it seems those photos didn’t tell the whole story. Last night, in one of her most candid Instagram posts to date, Lovato revealed that the images had been retouched. She then revealed an unedited pic from the same vacation along with a lengthy caption describing her mindset: “This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited. And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!!” Demi wrote. “I’m just literally sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited – and I hate that I did that but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is, but it’s just not me. This is what I got,” the 27-year-old added. “Here’s me, unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me when I hopefully give birth one day. “It’s such a great feeling to be back in tv/film while not stressing myself with a strenuous workout schedule before 14 hour days, or depriving myself from a real birthday cake rather than opting for watermelon & whip cream with candles because I was terrified of REAL cake and was miserable on some crazy diet shit.” (The “back on TV” comment seems to refer to Demi’s recurring role on the new season of Will & Grace .) “I’m not stoked on my appearance BUT I am appreciative of it and sometimes that’s the best I can do. I hope to inspire someone to appreciate their body today too,” she concluded. She added the hashtags: “#nationalcelulliteday #celluLIT” Is National Cellulite Day really a thing? It is now, muh f–kas! Of course, as many commenters have pointed out, Demi still possesses many of the qualities prized by Superficial America. In fact, if you subscribe to the Sir Mix-a-Lot school of aesthetics (and really, who doesn’t?), you may find this photo more appealing that Demi’s previous bikini pics . Really, what we’re looking at is an embarrassment of riches, and to some folks, Demi’s confessional caption might inspire about as much sympathy as the guy who complains that the vast estate he inherited in his youth often made him feel alienated from his peers. Still, our insecurities are our insecurities, and the effort to confront them head-on should always be applauded. Of course, Demi might not need any applause, as it appears she has no difficulty making it clap. We’ll show ourselves out. O ver the course of her career, the late legendary tennis player Althea Gibson broke several racial barriers within the realm of sports. She was the first African American to win a Grand Slam title and the first Black person to win at Wimbledon. In honor of her legacy, a sculpture of Gibson was recently unveiled outside of Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York during the U.S. Open tennis tournament, CBS Sports reported. Before Leslie Allen or Zina Garrison, Sloane Stephens or Venus and Serena Williams – there was Althea Gibson. A sculpture honoring Gibson, who broke the color barrier in international tennis, was unveiled Monday at the start of the 2019 US Open. https://t.co/9QGVERprxQ — The Undefeated (@TheUndefeated) August 26, 2019 The creation of the sculpture was an effort led by the North Carolina-based One Love Tennis group. The young members of the group penned letters to leaders of the United States Tennis Association encouraging the organization to create a sculpture of Gibson to pay homage to her contributions to sports. The bronze statue—which was built by sculptor Eric Goulder —was unveiled by former tennis player Billie Jean King . “Althea is a very strong reminder that it’s important to the living people right now that we carry on her legacy and the legacy of equality,” said King during the unveiling ceremony. “I knew if Althea had gone through what she had gone through and changed the world, that I had a chance to follow in her footsteps and help change the next generations.” Those who were close to Gibson say that she would have been beyond humbled to receive the honor. “It’s about time,” he former doubles partner Angela Buxton told The Undefeated . “Althea, with her two ticker-tape parades, still wasn’t allowed into a hotel where the whites sleep or a water fountain to drink where whites drink, but she helped to break that down.” Gibson passed away in 2003 at the age of 76. The unveiling of her statue comes months after the city of Richmond renamed a road after Arthur Ashe . Source: FayesVision/WENN.com / WENN News of Jay Z’s partnership with the NFL caused quite a few heads to turn when it was announced yesterday. In case you missed it, the NFL dropped a press release yesterday stating that the Roc Nation founder would be “entering into a multiyear partnership with the NFL to enhance the NFL’s live game experiences and to amplify the league’s social justice efforts.” “With its global reach, the National Football League has the platform and opportunity to inspire change across the country,” Carter said in a press release. “Roc Nation has shown that entertainment and enacting change are not mutually exclusive ideas — instead, we unify them. This partnership is an opportunity to strengthen the fabric of communities across America.” Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. I’ve been in this position many times. Take Tidal as a great example from five years ago. Now, people look at it today, people have a different outlook on it. But at the time, people didn’t see what was going on. So I’ve been in this position many times. I just show up and do the work, I’m not interested in how things look on the outside. Activist and writer Shaun King, who has been deemed rather problematic himself over the years, took to social media to call Jay out over the questionable business deal. They made him an offer,” King tweeted. “Jay Z is what I would call a woke capitalist. Woke describes his capitalism, but let’s be clear, he’s a capitalist, and if a good deal comes along, even if it means working with the NFL at the expense of Colin Kaepernick, he’ll make the deal. That’s what he just did,” he went on. “I don’t think Jay Z violated a single one of his core principles by making a deal with the NFL while they actively ban Colin Kaepernick from ever playing another game for the rest of his life. That’s all I’m saying. I wouldn’t do it, but I’m not Jay Z.” He closed by saying that Jay Z did not consult Kaepernick before signing this deal. “To be very clear… Jay Z DID NOT speak to or consult with Colin Kaepernick before he made this deal with the NFL. He openly said that to the NY Times. Sometimes people avoid advice and counsel that they know good and well will conflict with their money. ” If you are baffled by the move that Jay Z just made with the NFL then you don't actually listen to his music. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Anheuser-Busch) The internet is still hype about Pusha T’s “Maybach Music VI” verse and for good reason. In a recent interview he gave more context about the viscous sixteen bars he laid for Ross. As spotted on Complex the Virginia native spoke to Joe Budden during the latest edition of The Joe Budden Podcast . Jumpoff wasted no time in getting him to discuss the memorable feature. While the “Drug Dealers Anonymous” rapper didn’t confirm he was taking shots at Drake or Lil Wayne, his answers let us know that he is still about the “if the shoe fits” life. When asked “why did you do that to this verse that’s not out?” he responded “that’s what we in it for man, we here to rap, bro”. “We all have to do what we do best, the next guy got to do what he does best,” he added. “At this stage of my career, you know, I mean… hey man, hey,” he chuckled. On the track Push had several lines that could be interpreted as bait for Drizzy or TuneChi including “What a hell of a year, true colors expose/Crowns on these clowns, it’s like you colored they nose.” Ultimately Rick Ross decided to pull his appearance from the final version of Port Of Miami 2 citing that he would like to bring Pusha and Wayne together in a more genuine manner. Practicing for a career in the spotlight through the competition. “I want to work on commercials,” she revealed. Not having formal training didn’t intimidate her. “Skill you can always gain a skill,” she said. “But your unique personality, your unique look, your unique style is what speaks.” She saw doing things like finding her lighting and practicing poses as chance to “stretch me artistically.” She campaigned hard swapping out a portion of her usual inspirational “morning gram” videos for stylized tutorials and photos that showed her ability to represent the brand in static or video format. Now that she has proven her versatility she hopes to use her platform with Sephora to reach a bigger audience so she can inspire more people. “I hope I can make a difference for anyone male, female, Black , white, Asian by letting them know that there’s someone like them out there letting them know that there is someone that’s a representation of them.” Placement in the Sephora Squad will give Watson the opportunity to not only appear in digital advertisements representing the interests of the brand to the everyday person to others it will allow her to advocate for diversity to brand decision makers . She doesn’t yet know how she will speak up for others in the space, but she is making it a priority to continue being her “bold, honest and outgoing,” self. “Sephora is a universal place it’s a universal playground. It opens a lot of fields for me. I want to be a representation for women of color there.
