Source: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images Exclusive Brian Tyree Henry Interview Brian Tyree Henry isn’t a rapper but he plays one on TV–a very relatable and refreshingly complex rapper with a burgeoning career who steals scene after scene (after scene) on critically-acclaimed hit show “Atlanta.” And that’s only one of several power moves for the Emmy AND Tony-nominated North Carolina native currently having an enviable Hollywood run that started with Oscar-worthy masterpiece “If Beale Street Could Talk,” continued with Oscar-winning dazzler “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” and carried over into 2019 with several eye-catching roles headlined by “ Joker ” and… “Child’s Play???” Yep, a next-level Chucky movie that we couldn’t wait to ask him about during the “Child’s Play” press day where we talked (and laughed) about everything from killer doll nostalgia to Black folks in Horror movies to Rihanna in our fave interview of 2019. Let’s get into “Child’s Play”–what were your first thoughts when you realized you were playing a cop in a Chucky movie? “Actually when I got the script it didn’t say “Child’s Play” on it… so I started reading it and the story was pretty damn good. It was a really cool read. And then I saw the name Chucky and I was like ‘Yo…nahhh, there’s no way..’ because I’m like a Horror movie freak–I LOVE Horror movies, it’s my favorite genre and when I got to Chucky I was like ‘Oh sh*t, this has gotta be the new Chucky’ so then I looked at my character and was like ‘oh wait, hold up, this character is actually really brave because, you know , being Black in a Horror movie they don’t really give us good characters–we’re the first people to get killed in the first three minutes of the movie… But in this movie my character Detective Mike Norris is very smart, very charismatic, is really humorous, and literally the relationship he had with his mom, and his relationship with Andy were very important to me and so I was like ‘ok cool, there’s actually a character here’ *laughs* it was something that really attracted me to it. And at the end of the day, I remember when “Child’s Play’ came out in 1988 when I was 6-years-old.. I literally remember the Christmas it came out and, at the time, there was this doll called “My Buddy” and people were going into the store and fighting over these things, man, and it was on the news and I was just like ‘I’m never gonna get one of these dolls’ and as soon as this movie came out everyone threw them away so all that consumerism you were going through to get this doll, once this movie came out it shut the doll’s sales down… and that’s kinda why I like Horror movies because there really is a commentary on the social dynamics we live in.. It really turns the mirror on you to make you confront the things we’re actually afraid of in our real lives and that’s us as a society sometimes. So once I saw this was coming my way I jumped at it because I’ve always been a huge fan of this franchise and Chucky was such a part of my life growing up and I really just liked the retelling of the story they were doing and was like ‘this is actually really fresh and really relevant to today’ because instead of it being a serial killer dropped into a doll as it used to be.. this is like an artificial intelligence… it really is programmed to know everything about your life–like, everything –there’s an upgrade you can download and that’s way more terrifying–that, to me, is way more terrifying that there’s this doll that has access to your entire life. It’s still learning and growing–you’re gonna find yourself actually caring about Chucky–I’m not gon’ lie–I was surprised.. I was like ‘I actually like this dude, I really want him to win out here’ and I really just thought that was fun. It’s been so long since we’ve had a fun Horror movie. That was one of my favorite experiences about going to the Horror movies where I grew up is like, you know, if we’re in a theater full of Black people watching a Horror movie, we are gonna talk sh*t. We’re gonna say how we feel *laughs* and when I saw this I was like ‘Oh my God, this is a callback to one of those movies where you have to have that commentary. You have to clap and celebrate–it’s fun! And I was just really happy to be apart of something like that because that’s kinda what I knew and I’m a big nerd when it comes to this so… it was like me being a kid in a candy store” We realized the legendary Mark Hamill (who played “Luke Skywalker” in the “Star Wars” saga and voiced the Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series”) was voicing Chucky and were like ‘Whoa WHOAAA’ so what was that like for you–a big nerd? “Everything I’ve been doing in my career, honestly, is my inner-nerd just losing its mind and I think that’s why I take the things that I do because I think about myself being that 13-year-old kid at my locker and thinking about what kinda pictures I would’ve taped on the inside of my locker–all of the things I’ve done so far would’ve been in my locker *laughs* so having “Child’s Play” be that other little thing–that other little piece, right there–is great and then Mark Hamill, man, I’m gonna tell you something: the emotion that he brings to Chucky and the wonder he brings to Chucky and the sinisterness he brings to Chucky is really unbelievable and I think that’s why you feel for Chucky the way you do because of him” You got Joker, you got this, you had Spider-man [Into The Spider-Verse]–did you see yourself getting into your lane so fast in your career? No! I still try to act like I don’t see that because I don’t ever want it to take away that kind of joy, that kind of wonderment of what I do. It makes me very happy and I don’t ever wanna get to a place where I’m just like ‘Ohh, you know, tick that box, tick that box, tick that box, because there’s an endless array of boxes to tick for me” How did your experience at an HBCU—Morehouse College–shape your journey (and perspective) in Hollywood? I think that–not just Morehouse in it of itself–but the city of Atlanta shaped that for me because I moved there when I was 18 and I didn’t really start getting into theatre arts until my second semester sophomore year but it was something I’ve always done even in high school I was doing speech and debate and it was always an escape for me because the plays I was told to read or the plays we were given as assignments never had characters that reflected people who looked like me. You could give me Chekhov all day, you could give me Henrik Ibsen all day, but nothing is saying I could be this young dude in Russia so, for me, it was an escape. It was fun to play these parts and run around pretending to be these men in society I was told I’ll never be because of where I’m from and because I’m Black. So, at the end of the day, when I got to Morehouse here I am looking to my left and to my right seeing other people who have the same passion as I do but then I’m also in a city where I’m looking to my left and to my right and everyone looks like me and everyone’s excelling in the same way and the city is giving me space to be who the hell I am– Atlanta literally shaped me into the person I am today and it’s because I saw in a place like that endless possibilities for us as Black people–like, endless –are you telling me I can own a store? We all got our own neighborhoods? Like, what do you mean??? So, for me, it kinda revolutionized how I saw my self within this genre and made me feel like there was nothing couldn’t do and then, here I am, in “Child’s Play” playing this detective that you actually give a damn about…that was icing on the cake” We saw you say that Rihanna made you cry and since we’re talking about Atlanta–where would you take Rihanna in the city if yall were hanging out? What would yall do? “OK, alright! I’ve actually got a chance not too long ago to meet Rihanna–I went to the Gold Party… Rihanna came up to me with open arms–she was like ‘I’ve been watching you, I’m so proud of you, thank you for giving Fenty all the love’ because I’m always reppin like ‘Yo, Fenty Beauty is the bomb, everybody needs to support Rihanna’ and as I’m going in for a hug I break her drink–I drop her drink out of her hand–and I was like ‘are you kidding me? How could you do that?’ and with such grace and poise, as Rihanna does, she’s like ‘no-no-no, don’t worry about it, it’s just a drink, what are you drinking?’ AND THEN SHE GOES TO GET HERSELF A DRINK AND ME A DRINK… So then I’m trying not to cry again but it’s that kinda thing–my inner-nerd–like of course, I made her drop her drink but it was still–I learned a lot about myself *laughs* But yea, there’s nothing greater than to see people from your generation killin’ the game. I feel like I’ve gotten to my rise watching her–like, watching us all excel in this way and its just pride, man. It really just makes me proud but I still broke her drink, though” Is there anything you can tell us about Season 3 of Atlanta? “Thaaaat, it will be back next year *laughs* but know that we’ll be coming back for sure” “Child’s Play” in theaters now!

Jeff Prescott Slams Kate Gosselin’s Claims That They Were Never a Thing

Kate Gosselin clearly doesn’t deserve love or companionship, but she may find both on her new dating show . But with all of the talk about Kate Plus Date , she has been slamming reports about a previous relationship. That hasn’t stopped her “non” ex from coming forward and confirming that they dated very seriously for two years. It was widely believed that reality TV villain Kate Gosselin had dated Jeff Prescott. Prescott is a millionaire philanthropist who co-founded Dreamstime.  Kate Gosselin took to her Instagram Stories to claim that none of that is true. “I didn’t date him,” the walking nightmare insisted on social media. She went on to warn her fans and followers to never trust “people who sell stories.” We wonder how she defines her career as anything but that. Kate claims that “they are looking for publicity to benefit themselves/their business.” Saying that you dated Kate might get your name or even your business’ name out there. But will it help business? Some people might avoid it like the plague. Speaking to Radar Online , however, Jeff Prescott says that their romance was not fake news. They didn’t just go on a couple of dates. He says that they were an item for nearly two years. Prescott adds that he was, at one point, so serious about Kate that he went house-hunting so that he might live closer to her. Luckily for him, it sounds like their relationship ended before he sank money into Pennsylvania real estate. Now, house-hunting could be the actions of a one-sided man who’s read more into a relationship than is really there. According to Jeff Prescott, he and Kate were both serious about each other. “We were talking about our future together,” he tells RadarOnline . He even says that he and Kate were just about ready to go public with their romance. Just a few years later, and she’s saying that they were never even an item. Ouch. If push came to shove, there may even be a way to prove how serious they allegedly were about each other. Prescott says that he was prepared to do much more than announce that they were dating. He says that, back in 2015, he actually signed on to Kate Plus 8 . There, he would have played the boyfriend of the notorious mother. Clearly, those plans fell through along with their alleged relationship. Some of Kate’s suitors on Kate Plus Date have no idea who she is, which we suppose makes sense. (Who would agree to date her if they knew as much about her as the rest of us?) They have then been shocked to learn that she is the mother of eight children. Of course, that number doesn’t really reflect reality these days, does it? These days, she’s only regularly terrorizing six of her children. Two of them, Hannah and of course poor Collin, have escaped to the relative safety of their father’s house. Jon Gosselin’s not making anybody’s Father of the Year list, but at least he’s not an awful human .

Keeping Up With The Kardashians Sneak Peek: Tristan Cheated With Jordyn!

Earlier this year, Jordyn Woods was blacklisted and shunned after being accused of making out with Khloe's cheating baby daddy. In this Keeping Up With The Kardashians teaser, Khloe first hears the bad news about Tristan Thompson. In this season finale two-parter, viewers will get to see the entire family in meltdown mode. The start of this teaser trailer begins with a classic phone ring sound effect. You know, like it's the 1990s. We then see Kim, in the confessional, gaze down at her phone in bewilderment and concern. “What's going on?” Kim's voice is heard with a dreamlike effect. We then hear the bad news in a haunting voiceover: “Tristan and Jordyn were all over each other last night.” The promo then shows us Khloe, dabbing at her eye with a tissue while she weeps in bed. This, folks, is the episode that fans have been waiting to see all season. It's a two-parter. And yes, of course, it's the season finale. This is Tristan Thompson's cheating scandal, after he was spotted allegedly giving an unsolicited kiss to Jordyn Woods. But as we all know, the verison of events that Khloe chose to believe is that Jordyn was making out with him. Kris Jenner comes across as the voice of reason during this teaser promo. “We just need to figure out what the whole full story is,” she suggests. See, Jordyn has been like family for years.  She is — or was, before this scandal — besties with Kylie. Kim doesn't appear willing to wait around and hear what went down. “Tristan admitted it!” Kim accuses. In other words, it sounds like Kim is willing to believe a version of events that Tristan, of all people, is presenting. But maybe we'll find out, in this two-part finale, what lead Kim and Khloe and maybe even Kylie to believe Tristan over Jordyn. We do see Kylie speak frankly, either to a family member or perhaps to Jordyn herself. “I'm just like, what were you thinking?” Kylie expresses. We then see her speaking with Khloe, who feels betrayed on two different sides. “I knew who he was,” Khloe admits about Tristan. “I never in a million years thought that's who she was,” Khloe expresses to Kylie. Wait, so she's confirming that she knew that her cheating baby daddy was a cheater. (Which, you know, she had to) But she's still laying blame at the feet of Jordyn Woods? Even worst case scenario, like if Jordyn really was going hard for Tristan that night, it's just because she was a pretty girl close to him. It could have been any pretty girl. And it was probably  many  pretty girls, let's be real. Then, the promo takes us back to Khloe and her ongoing suffering. “It just sucks it has to be so public,” Khloe confesses to the camrea through tears. That's true. And we sympathize with Khloe for having to endure so much. Similarly, we sympathize with Jordyn for losing her home, her best friend, aspects of her career, and her reputation. We wonder if, these days, Khloe is feeling differently towards Jordyn now that Khloe has learned that she, too, was once Tristan's “other woman.”

Lady Gaga Continues to Fuel Bradley Cooper Dating Rumors

Last week, the world was stunned by reports that Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk had broken up following a four-year relationship. Well, perhaps “stunned” isn’t the right word, considering just about everyone who watched Cooper’s performance with Lady Gaga at this year’s Oscars assumed there was something going on between the A Star Is Born co-stars. There have been widespread attempts to blame Gaga for Cooper and Shayk’s breakup , but all parties involved have refused to even dignify those reports with a response. Nevertheless, the rumor mill continues to churn, and some folks are convinced that Gaga hinted at a romance with Cooper during a performance in Vegas on Tuesday night, Addressing the audience between songs, Gaga said her aesthetic attracted a lot of criticism early in her career, as some of her consultants thought that “everything was too gay.” “I remember saying, ‘Well, I don’t see it that way but there’s also gay people in the world,'” the singer said to great applause. “They told me it wouldn’t work and they tried to change me but I never let them,” Gaga continued. “And you know why? Because I thought they were shallow.” With that, she began to play the opening notes of “Shallow,” her Oscar-winning duet with Cooper. (She performs the song solo during her live shows.) But before launching into the vocals, Gaga added some instructions for her audience and for mankind in general: “Be kind, be kind or f–k off,” she said. Yes, it’s a bit of a stretch, but many believe these comments were Gaga’s way of indirectly addressing the rumors that she’s dating Cooper. But even among those who share that belief, the interpretation of her comments varies wildly. Some say she’s telling the gossip mongers to f–k off and stop suggesting that she and Cooper are anything more than friends. Others believe it’s a loving, coded shout-out to Bradley — a callback to the way his character encouraged hers to pursue her dreams in A Star Is Born. Of course, the most likely explanation is that Gaga simply wished to share an inspirational, pro-LGBT sentiment during a Pride Month performance. But as is always the case, stories stars just being standup folk don’t make for good tabloid fodder. So expect the press to continue dissecting Gaga’s every comment.

Future dropped a new EP overnight called Save Me and while the internet was expecting more codeine-laced turn up, he instead gave us a bunch of songs that alternate between sad cries for help and that good old toxic misogyny we’ve grown to know and love from him. However, one song in particular has caught everyone’s attention. It’s a song called “Shotgun” which sounds eerily similar to the beat from Ciara’s “Promise.” Ok but anyone else notice shotgun by future got a similar beat to promise by Ciara ? Jussie Smollett: Listen to His Weird 911 Call!

Chicago Police have released an audio recording of the 911 call made on behalf of Jussie Smollett back in late January. The call was placed by Smollett’s manager, Frank Gatson … who reported that the Empire star had been the victim of a racist, homophobic assault after leaving a Subway restaurant in the Windy City. This, of course, is what Smollett has alleged the very beginning of this crazy saga. “I just need the police to come by. I work for an artist. I don’t really want to say his name,” Gatson tells a 911 dispatcher at 2:22 a.m., adding: “He states he went to Subway … and two guys – somebody jumped him or something like that. I just want to report it and make sure he’s alright.” A little odd, right? Gatson doesn’t sound especially panicked in the call, but he does sound as if he’s relaying the story that Smollett has spelled out for him. Gatson goes on to claim Smollett “was cool” and “didn’t want me to call you guys,” only for the operator to say that Smollett had to report the alleged crime himself, not Gatson. “He’s definitely gonna make the report. I’m gonna make him make the report,” Gatson says. He proceeds to talk about the “attackers” and how “they put a noose around his neck” and says the entire situation is “really f-cked up.” Police had said the 911 call was made 40 minutes after Smollett got back to his Chicago apartment. “I just think he’s startled. I’m scared and I don’t know what it is,” Gatson adds in the video below. “They put a noose around his neck. They didn’t do anything with it, but put it around his neck. That’s pretty f-cked up to me. Sorry for saying it like that.” Jussie Smollett 911 Call: Released! Again: HUH?!? This is a major reason why Smollett’s description of what transpired on the street that night many months ago has never really added up. He has alleged that he was beaten up by two white men who screamed about “MAGA Country” and who trashed him for being black and gay — and yet he had no wounds from the incident? A noose was simply placed gently around his neck? He didn’t need to be rushed to the hospital? Smollett was arrested several weeks after the supposed assault went down because police were convinced he falsified his official report. He was then cleared of all charges in late March and, to the total shock of many observers, set free. Many members of the Chicago police force, along with the city’a mayor, railed against this decision, however. “This is a whitewash of justice,” a visibly angry Rahm Emanuel told reporters after Smollett was released and cleared. He then laid hard into Smollett for allegedly lying about being the victim of a hate crime: “You have a person using hate crime laws that are on the books to protect people who are minorities from violence to then turn around and use those laws to advance your career and your financial reward. “Is there no decency in this man?” Smollett stands by his original story. He maintains that he was attacked for his race and his sexuality and has thanked the supporters who have stood by him this whole time, which includes a handful of Empire cast members. Does this mean Jussie may someday return to the Fox drama? No, never, we can now confirm .
