Jim Carrey may be known for his sense of humor, but the actor has settled on one topic recently that is anything but a laughing matter: Gun control. After posting a Funny or Die video that mocked gun advocates , the actor has been under siege from many Conservatives, led, as you might expect, by Fox News . Now, in attempt to re-open a reasonable discourse, Carrey has penned an Op-Ed for The Huffington Post. “These mass shootings and daily body counts on your local news are terrible tragedies,” the actor writes . “The utter devastation that must be endured by the victims’ families is unfathomable. “These horrific events are also an invitation for us to become more civilized and to deal with our addiction and entitlement to violence. Not to shut our eyes and ears and scream at those with a different opinion than ours to ‘f–k off and go back to Canada.'” Carrey responds to assertions that he’s a hypocrite by saying his bodyguards are not permitted to carry a large magazine and then states in all capital letters: “NO ONE IS ASKING ANYONE TO GIVE UP THEIR RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.” Instead, the man behind Ace Ventura insists his battle is against “the type of arms, the easy access and the means with which to cause massive devastation.” Carrey also scoffs at “bullies” who attempt to discredit him due to his profession, pointing out that Ronald Regan was also an actor. Aghast at the “level of hatred heaped upon” him, Carrey concludes: No one is allowed to own a bazooka. In a movie theater an assault rifle with a 100-round drum magazine can cause just as much damage. So don’t just sit there and do nothing. Contact your representatives and let them know that their jobs depend upon change. It won’t always be someone else’s kids in the line of fire. The time is now. LET YOUR HEART BE HEARD.

While Rush Limbaugh mocks Barack Kardashian, the First Lady of the U.S. is staying out of the political fray and focusing on her new book about gardening. Michelle Obama, who’s been promoting her new book about the White House garden and healthy eating, appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman. Here are her “Top Ten Fun Facts About Gardening” from Tuesday … Michelle Obama Top 10 List Gardening was invented in 1822 by Albert Gardener. Plant avocados, tomatoes, onions and cilantro together and grow a guacamole tree. Eggplants were originally cultivated for use as doorstops. The White House tool shed contains shovels, trowels and Weed Whacker One. With enough care and effort you can grow your own Barack-oli. Her campaign for home-grown diets and to fight obesity has already shown progress. Earlier this year, Michelle even got Jay Leno to eat vegetables . Not a small feat.
Jenny McCarthy made headlines today when she surprisingly revealed that her ex, actor Jim Carrey, isn’t quite as serious about the 10-year-old. “I’ve tried to ask (Jim) numerous times (to see Evan), because he still asks,” McCarthy told Howard Stern, adding that Evan asks about Jim “almost weekly.” “As a mother, you just hope when you have a relationship with someone, it has nothing to do with the child when you break up,” she said. ”I tell [Evan] that someday you’ll cross paths, meet again … [but] it’s hard. He’s been in therapy. It’s a process, he’s working on it.” McCarthy, 39, who is currently dating Brian Urlacher and will be posing nude in Playboy this year, dated Carrey, 50, for five years. They split in 2010. Evan’s father is John Mallory Asher, who Jenny was married to from 1999-2005. As for Carrey, he was far from pleased that Jenny made this public. Carrey said, “I will always do what I believe is in the best interest of Evan’s well being. It’s unfortunate that Evan’s privacy is not being considered.” ” I love Evan very much and will miss him always.” It’s pretty clear from Jim’s brief statement that he acknowledges he doesn’t see the boy, though he does not explain why – probably by design. One theory (and it’s just a theory) is that he feels it would be more harmful to the boy if he comes in and out of his life, so he’s cut ties altogether. [Photo: WENN.com]
