American Country Awards 2011: List of Winners!

Jason Aldean dominated the field with six wins, including Artist of the Year, at the 2011 American Country Awards, where the fans vote and determine the winners. So he’s pretty popular then! Aldean also won Album of the Year by a Male Artist for My Kinda Party and shared Single and Music Video of the Year with Kelly Clarkson for “Don’t You Wanna Stay.” The only artist to come close to Aldean was Carrie Underwood, the Female Artist of the Year and a winner for Music Video and Single of the Year for “Mama’s Song.” Absentee Brad Paisley was named Male Artist of the Year, while Blake Shelton took home Music Video of the Year by a Male Artist, plus the Video of the Year. New Artist of the Year Scotty McCreery thanked American Idol for propelling him into his current lofty position, and also performed at the star-studded event. Most stunningly, Taylor Swift (not present) went home empty-handed despite six nominations. That’s okay. Spreading the wealth around a little is okay too. ‘American Idol’ Winner Lee DeWyze Dropped By Label

Season-nine winner’s album was lowest-selling by show champ. By Gil Kaufman Lee DeWyze Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images Season-nine “American Idol” winner Lee DeWyze has set a couple of records since taking home the title two years ago over dreadlocked rival Crystal Bowersox. Unfortunately for him, though, they’re not the kinds you want to brag about. After landing the worst-selling debut album from an “Idol” winner in history, the soft-spoken rocker has quietly been dumped by his label, RCA Records , after just one release. The singer and former paint-store clerk failed to catch fire with an audience while selling just 168,000 copies of his 2010 major-label bow, Live It Up. With only sporadic touring and no single topping the charts, DeWyze was largely off the radar in the months following the album’s release as he kept a much lower profile than previous winners. He becomes only the second “Idol” winner to be dropped after a single album, following in the footsteps of season five’s Taylor Hicks, whose Arista Records debut sold more than 705,000 copies. While a spokesperson for RCA could not be reached for comment at press time, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news. In an interview with the trade magazine last week, newly appointed RCA Records CEO Peter Edge let slip that Illinois native DeWyze, 25, is no longer on the label’s roster. DeWyze’s option with the label expired in September, and his season was the final one of a nine-year partnership between “Idol,” 19 Recordings and RCA’s parent company, Sony Music. While DeWyze has been let go, a number of previous “Idol” winners remain on the RCA roster, including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, David Cook and Kris Allen. An unnamed rep for the singer told THR that DeWyze is in a “good place right now” and he is reportedly working on new music and planning his upcoming wedding to model Joanna Walsh. Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett Music Video Debuts Monday

‘Lady Is a Tramp’ clip is the second from Duets II, following ‘Body and Soul’ with the late Amy Winehouse. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images Tony Bennett just scored his first #1 album with Duets II, and now the legend is ready to drop another video from the collabo project. On Monday, his video for “The Lady Is a Tramp” — with a blue-haired Lady Gaga by his side — will hit the Web. On the track, Gaga gets a little feisty with the 85-year-old. “I hate California, it’s crowded and damp,” the New York-native Gaga sings, before Bennett chimes in giggling, “That’s why the lady is a tramp.” “My favorite is that Lady Gaga,” Bennett gushed to MTV News at the Video Music Awards, where Gaga spent the night in character as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone . “She’s the biggest. I’ll tell you, I never met anyone with more talent than that lady.” Earlier this month, Bennett’s “Body and Soul” video with the late Amy Winehouse debuted. The duo were filmed recording the song together, and the Gaga video will most likely follow suit. Other Duets II collaborations include John Mayer, Carrie Underwood and Mariah Carey, among others. Riding high on his new wave of success — including first-week sales of 179,000 copies — Bennett said his career has always been incredibly cyclical. “I’m 85; I just want to tell you, it’s a very strange situation,” he said. “I always worked live, and ever since 1950, wherever I’ve played internationally I’ve been sold out all these years. It’s amazing. So the public’s been on my side all the time.” What are you expecting from Gaga and Bennett’s video? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Lady Gaga Tony Bennett

Carrie Underwood: To Bang or Not to Bang?

Country star Carrie Underwood made her first red carpet appearance in quite some time at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on Friday night. There, she debuted her brand-new hairstyle! The 28-year-old traded her signature center-part hairstyle for a set of rounded bangs grazing her eyebrows and a glossy blowout. She looks amazing. Then again, she also did before. Carrie can clearly pull off either look. Which do you prefer, though? That’s for you to decide in THG’s survey below!

Kelly Clarkson Gets ‘Feisty’ In ‘Mr. Know It All’ Video

Singer calls a glammed-up scene in a massive gown ‘one of my favorite shots in the video.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Kelly Clarkson in her “Mr. Know It All” video Photo: Sony Music Entertainment Kelly Clarkson shows off her many sides — sexy, glam, fun and playful, to name a few — in the brand-new, Justin Francis-directed music video for “Mr. Know It All.” The video, which dropped Monday (September 26), is a mixture of sleek performance footage and glamour shots, which play up the many personality traits of the Stronger singer. The clip even features a little something called “the Wall of Doubt,” which uses real, occasionally negative headlines that have been printed about the singer. But her favorite scene, as she told MTV News, is one where she looks super glammed up in a massive gown. “There’s different sides of me, and that whole outfit was more for all the freeing aspect,” she explained. “Like, there’s all these different sides of you, and that was the free-spirit side of me. That’s one of my favorite shots in the video. It keeps coming back to my hair everywhere.” However, the girl in that shot doesn’t tell Clarkson’s full story. “I think there’s that free-spirit side of me, and then there’s that feisty performer in me,” she continued. “Then there’s the funny side of me. I mean, obviously you have to be funny to have a big giant wall of doubt with actual headlines of your life on the wall. It’s a little fun, a little feisty.” The lead single from her October release, Stronger, was a late addition. “It was actually the last song we recorded, and we had already finished it up,” she said of “Mr. Know It All.” “That song came out of nowhere. And luckily it did, because everybody fell in love with it. “I think why I was attracted to it was, first of all, every girl has probably dated that guy, and also just in work life, I’ve known a lot of those people — especially in this industry,” she continued. “And people that try and pigeonhole you. I think I was just attracted to that idea of being a little sassy and feisty with that message.” The track was written by Brett James (Carrie Underwood), Ester Dean (Beyonc

Lady Gaga Honors Jamey Rodemeyer At iHeartRadio Festival

Gay teen committed suicide last weekend after suffering years of bullying. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga performs at the iHeartRadio Music Festival Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Just days after once again speaking out against bullying, Lady Gaga dedicated a moving version of “Hair” to teen Jamey Rodemeyer at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas on Saturday. The gay teen committed suicide last week after enduring years of bullying by his school peers, inspiring Gaga to tweet that she was going to meet with President Obama to encourage him to pass legislation outlawing bullying. Following up on her promise, Gaga attended an Obama fundraiser in Los Angeles over the weekend, where a source told MTV News last week that she was expected to bring up the topic if the two were able to get a moment together. According to The Associated Press , Gaga was among the guests at an intimate Sunday night gathering at the home of Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, wearing a sleeveless gown and high heels. A spokesperson for Gaga had not returned requests for comment at press time inquiring about whether the meeting of the minds had taken place. The two-night iHeartRadio festival unfolded at the MGM Grand in Vegas and featured sets from Jay-Z , the Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson , Carrie Underwood, Bruno Mars, Coldplay , Alicia Keys, David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez and Usher. For photos of Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and others at the iHeartRadio festival, click here. “We lost a Little Monster this week,” Gaga said of the 14-year-old Rodemeyer during the show, as a picture of the teen was shown on a screen onstage. “I wrote this record about how your identity is really all you’ve got when you’re in school … so tonight, Jamey, I know you’re up there looking at us, and you’re not a victim … you’re a lesson to all of us. I know it’s a bit of a downer, but sometimes the right thing is more important than the music.” The Amherst Police Department have opened a criminal investigation into Rodemeyer’s death and are considering harassment, cyberharassment and hate crimes charges against a number of teens who may have been involved in bullying Jamey. Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV Smashes iTunes Record

Album is on track to sell more than 850,000 copies in its first week. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Lil Wayne always makes his fans wait longer than they might want to for his new albums. But when he does finally drop them, Carterites always show up to support their man. According to Weezy’s label, Tha Carter IV sold more than 300,000 downloads on iTunes in its first four days of release last week, beating out the first-week sales record recently set by Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne. The album, which was released digitally right after the 2011 VMAs, is also on pace to have the second biggest first-week sales of 2011, according to the Hollywood Reporter, with expected sales of 850,000. The combined physical and digital sales would make for the biggest first week for a hip-hop album since Tha Carter III, which sold 1.01 million in its first week in June 2008. While he will undoubtedly have an impressive bow on Wednesday when the final figures are released by Nielsen SoundScan, it will still likely fall short of the year’s biggest debut to date, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, which moved 1.3 million in its debut in June. Weezy, who closed the VMAs in memorable style, said that he wasn’t sweating the fact that Carter IV leaked five days early. In fact, he was kind of glad that fans got a sneak peek. “It just means people want to hear it,” Wayne told MTV News . “I mean, ’cause there’re people’s albums that come out that can be leaked and don’t leak, so I’m glad mines leaked.” Jay and Kanye avoided a leak with their Watch the Throne album, but the YMCMB camp has said they aren’t too concerned about how the leak could affect album sales. Via his Twitter account, Cash Money CEO Birdman has been promoting Weezy’s album for the past week or two, even predicting that Carter IV would sell a million copies in its first week, just like Carter III. Last week, he wrote , “C4.BMJR.#Dont Lie 1m. 1week They Know.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Lil Wayne Related Artists Lil Wayne

Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton Nab CMA Awards Nominations

Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, Swift and Shelton all have five nods each for November 9 show. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: Hope For Haiti Now/ Getty It really wouldn’t be a country music awards show of any kind if Taylor Swift didn’t nab a slew of nominations. On Tuesday (September 6), the CMA released their list of nominees for this year, and, of course, Swift got a whole bunch, along with Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley and “The Voice” judge Blake Shelton. That elite four received five nominations each and will face off against one another, and Keith Urban, in the night’s big category for Entertainer of the Year. While Urban didn’t make the Album of the Year cut, the other four did with Shelton getting props for All About Tonight, Aldean for My Kinda Party, Swift for Speak Now, Paisley for This Is Country Music, as well as the Zac Brown Band for You Get What You Give . Swift is the only woman up for Entertainer of the year, as well as Album of the Year. Swift has some stiff competition in the Female Vocalist category, where Carrie Underwood, Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride are also nominated. Swift’s “Mean” is also up for Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year. The Band Perry, who seem poised for the type of crossover success Swift and Underwood have received in past years, are up for four awards, including Music Video of the Year, Single of the Year and Song of the Year for “If I Die Young,” as well as Vocal Group of the Year. The show will be hosted for the fourth year by nominees Paisley and Underwood and is set to take place on Wednesday, November 9 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and air live at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
