Is Casey James the Next American Idol?

There have only been two American Idol seasons where a foregone conclusion actually came to pass — seasons three and four, when Fantasia Barrino and Carrie Underwood exacted pitch-perfect ascents to the Idol coronation ceremony. Since then, we’ve had some sneaky wunderkinds weasel their way to the top: Kris Allen and his acoustic turnabouts won season eight; Jordin Sparks and her youthful trills toppled Melinda Doolittle in season six. And now, in season ten, Casey James could be on his way to derailing the long-favored Crystal Bowersox. Sound crazy? Not when you consider why voters go to pick up the phone.

Big Brother Bum: Matt McDonald Busted For Assault on Pregnant Girlfriend

Matt McDonald, a memorable contestant from Season 9 of the hit CBS reality series Big Brother, was arrested for allegedly beating his pregnant girlfriend. The Boston District Attorney’s Office says Matt McDonald was taken into custody Sunday around 3:30 p.m. after an ugly spat over allegations of infidelity. The self-proclaimed “biggest liar/sweet talker” on the show was charged with assault and battery and aggravated assault and battery … a serious charge. This is because the victim is eight weeks pregnant . According to the police, Matt and his baby mama got into an argument “over a text message on her cell phone the victim received from an old friend.” At that point, “the suspect accused the victim of cheating on her, attacking the victim by grabbing her arms, dragging her into a different room and strangling the victim stating ‘I hope the baby dies and hope u [sic] have a miscarriage.” Wow. BIG (BROTHER) HOUSE : Matt McDonald could be sequestered for awhile . The next day, the woman alleges, the former Big Brothe r houseguest returned from the store and accused her of pouring water on his plasma TV, breaking it. McDonald then kicked her in the collarbone while she was sitting, then put her in a headlock and punched her in the arms, per the report. And it gets worse. The victim claimed he later phoned her father, at which point she screamed for help, prompting Matt to shout, “Shut the f–k up or I’ll punch you in the face.” She also contends McDonald threatened to off her dad if he called the cops. It was then she ran out of the apartment and sought out police, who observed bruises and red marks on her collarbone, neck and arms, according to reports. McDonald has pleaded not guilty. Interesting side note – that season of BB was won by Adam Jasinski , who was recently busted for running a drug ring.

Carrie Underwood’s Impressive Cleavage

I really don’t have much to say about these pictures of Carrie Underwood , I’m pretty damn hungover and can’t be bothered to think of anything funny or even slightly amusing so you’re going to have to make do on your own. I will point out that she’s dropping, dropping is not the right word, she’s presenting some cleavage for us to enjoy. At least for us to try to enjoy, there’s not much there. The fat kid on my street who rides a unicycle in a tank top has more cleavage than this and he’s a dude.

‘American Idol’ In 60 Seconds: Charity Can’t Save Tim Urban

On ‘Idol Gives Back’ week, it was hard to notice anything but Crystal Bowersox. By Jim Cantiello Tim Urban and Ryan Seacrest on “American Idol” on Wednesday Photo: FOX It was “Idol Gives Back” week on “American Idol,” that time on the show when the judges beg viewers to help solve the world’s problems when in actuality, the interest from Simon Cowell’s savings account alone could buy every human a mosquito net. Or 12. It also meant that the top seven were forced to sing “inspirational songs” (with guest mentor Alicia Keys), a theme almost half of them interpreted as “cheesy soundtrack songs.” Crystal “Not a Quitter” Bowersox solidified her front-runner status by delivering the season’s first official “Holy Crap That Just Happened on Live TV” moment when she burst into tears singing lyrics about “the Lord.” But it wasn’t the Holy Spirit that moved her. She told Seacrest it was PapaSox sitting in the audience that made her lose her cool. Bowersox’s “People Get Ready” was so good that nobody even seemed to care that she sang into a bong-shaped microphone stand. Oh, and the other remaining six contestants sang too, I guess. Wednesday was the official two hour (and 9,000,000 minute) “Idol Gives Back” telethon, so you know what that means: The contestants wore virginal white, Annie Lennox sang the crap out of a song that makes you cry (even if Icelandic ash kept her on another continent), and we got to see a past Idol frolic with smiling African babies. (This year we had the added enjoyment of seeing David Cook’s hairstyle change 15 times in four minutes of television!) Producers pulled the biggest names out of their Rolodex for the admirable occasion, and unfortunately most of those celebs passed. But look! They booked Jonah Hill and George Lopez and Common and the one and only Octomom! But “Idol” is first and foremost a music show (just kidding), so the highlights of the night were obviously the musical guests. Each member of the Black Eyed Peas performed a separate song simultaneously (also of note: Fergie dressed like Wonder Woah-man). Mary J. Blige dramatically took off her sunglasses during an “all-star” “Stairway to Heaven.” Alicia Keys left her voice at home, Carrie Underwood sang about changes (not menopause), and Sir Elton John performed “Your Song” for the millionth time in his career. It was most unfortunate when a demon entered the body of Joss Stone and ruined her performance with Jeff Beck. I hope she gets exorcised soon. Perhaps “Idol” will raise money for that cause next year. In the end, despite David Duchovny, Disney stars, the POTUS, the Posh, Bill and Melinda Gates and the “Idol” judges begging America to be generous, viewers voted off Tim Urban, the shiniest happiest person in the cast. To think that $10 of singing lessons may have extended his “Idol” life. Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Carrie Underwood Says ‘Idol Gives Back’ Matters More Than Contest

American Idol Gives Back, Eliminates Tim Urban

The smile-filled journey of Tim Urban came to an end last night, as American Idol viewers voted this finalist off the show. The elimination didn’t come as a shock, giving Tim’s lackluster performance of “Better Days” on Tuesday, but the man that joined Urban in the bottom two may have surprised many: Casey James was finally punished for his lack of creativity on a weekly basis. As for the two-hour broadcast itself, Idol Gives Back is always an impressive event. It brings numerous A-listers together in the name of such charities as Save the Children. Among this year’s highlights: Wanda Sykes doing a stand-up routine in which she questioned the cruelty of making eliminated contestants sing the same song for which they were voted out. Mary J. Blige singing “Stairway to Heaven” with Randy Jackson on the guitar. A reunion of the top 12 stage on stage, as seen below. Annie Lennox taping a segment about an HIV-positive girl in Africa.
