Ariel Winter’s Mom Sues Actor For Defamation Following "Abusive Monster" Comment

Ariel Winter’s mom is suing an associate of her adult daughter for defamation after he claimed she was an “abusive monster” toward the Modern Family star. Chrisoula Workman filed the defamation and false light lawsuit against Matthew Borlenghi, claiming his comment attached to a November 9 L.A. Times story. Borlenghi is an actor who teaches at a studio operated by Shanelle Workman -Gray, Winter’s adult sister who currently has custody of the 14-year-old. A judge temporarily stripped Winter’s mother of custody amid allegations she had been physically and emotionally abusive to the Sofia the First actress. A trial on whether Workman will be completely lose custody begins Wednesday. Borlenghi said he had not yet seen the lawsuit, which stems from an online comment he allegedly posted on the Times website that quoted Chrisoula Workman. The story centered on Chrisoula (who also goes by Chrystal Workman ) alleging that Winter was having an improper relationship with an 18-year-old actor. The comment attributed to Borlenghi re: that story states: “This is a total falsehood. The mother is grasping and clawing to find a way not to lose her money-maker, and hide the fact that she is an abusive monster.” Borlenghi later said when contacted about the case: “All I can say is that David (Gray) and Shanelle Gray are very close friends of mine and comments that Chris has made are absolutely fabricated.”  “The negative comments she’s made about her own daughter in order to try to get custody back of Ariel Winter are truly disgusting.” Workman’s lawsuit includes several pages of sworn declarations from tutors and other friends and associates denying she has been abusive to her daughter. The declarations have been filed in the case and may be considered by a judge who has to determine whether to allow Gray to continue caring for her sister. A judge said last month that investigators had evidence of emotional abuse toward Winter. Workman has denied she has been abusive toward her daughter.

Race Matters–Judge Rules The Bachelor Doesn’t HAVE To Cast Black People

Did anyone other than the two fools who filed this suit ever care about being on The Bachelor anyway? LLS We’re not surprised with the Judge’s ruling one bit. According to TMZ… A judge has THROWN OUT a lawsuit that two black men filed against “The Bachelor” … in which they claimed they were rejected from the show based on the color of their skin. In the original suit, the men pointed out that every bachelor in the show’s history has been white — and claim producers intentionally stayed away from people of color because they feared an interracial relationship would alienate the show’s “predominantly white viewership.” But a Tennessee judge has officially dismissed the case — citing the 1st Amendment (Freedom of Speech) … and explaining that the court cannot tell TV producers … or movie producers … or playwrights … how to cast a production. In fact, the judge explains that Freedom of Speech is why “The Cosby Show” could have an all-black cast … why “Jersey Shore” can cast all-Italians … and why “Shahs of Sunset” can cast all-Persians. A rep for Warner Bros. — which produces the show — tells TMZ, “We felt from the onset this case was completely without merit and we are pleased the Court has found in our favor.” Damn…looks like homeboy isn’t gonna find his one true love on reality TV anytime soon. At least it’s one less show for us to be stereotyped on! Images via facebook

Race Matters: Ex-Gang Member Exonerated After Serving 19-Years In Prison!

Justice served? Thanks to a corrupt system and false testimonies , 37-year-old John Edward Smith has been in jail…serving 19 years of his TWO life term sentences for murder. What’s got us so angry about this case is the LAPD’s internal affairs department ignored polygraph tests and repeated reports made by the witness; admitting before and after the sentencing that he’d falsely accused Smith. According to the LA Times… “I had days when I was really frustrated, but I knew I couldn’t stop,” John Edward Smith said of his bid for release in a phone interview minutes after he walked out a free man. He said he was most dazed by the lights of downtown Los Angeles and Staples Center, and was looking forward to going home and hugging his grandmother. Smith said he was putting the details of his case out of his mind and focusing on the small steps to rebuild a life on the outside, like getting a driver’s license. During 19 years behind bars, Smith, a 37-year-old former gang member, adamantly maintained his innocence in the drive-by shooting, insisting that he was miles away at his grandmother’s house at the time of the crime. His claims went unheard until three years ago, when a fledgling wrongful convictions group, Innocence Matters, took his case and identified problems with the testimony of the lone witness to identify him as the killer. The man subsequently recanted and at a brief and raucous hearing Monday afternoon, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge vacated his conviction. Smith’s relatives and friends erupted in cheers as Judge Patricia Schnegg, the supervising criminal judge, said she was setting aside the 1995 verdict because Smith’s conviction rested almost entirely on perjured testimony….The judge’s ruling came after the district attorney’s office completed its own yearlong investigation and determined that the witness, a high school student injured in the shooting, had lied on the stand. That teenager, Landu Mvuemba, told Smith’s lawyers that LAPD detectives had pressured him into the identification and that he had tried on a number of occasions over the years to alert authorities about his false statements. Smith offered the jury an alibi: He was with a girlfriend and two others at his grandmother’s house nearly three miles away. But the jury believed Mvuemba, convicting Smith of murder and attempted murder after three hours of deliberations. He was given two life sentences. Smith’s family, including his grandmother Laura Neal, firmly believed in his innocence. At one point, his grandparents mortgaged their house to pay an appellate law firm $65,000. Mvuemba said he soon regretted it and reported his concerns to LAPD internal affairs twice. He even told the courtroom bailiff as he prepared to take the witness stand, he said. No one did anything, he said. He and Smith later took polygraph tests. Both passed. Outside the courthouse, Smith’s grandmother, a frail women who uses a walker, said she had willed herself to stay alive until he was free. “There was a part of me that was in there too,” she said of his prison stay. “I am free now.” It’s sad that one false testimony can have such a heavy impact on your life. We’d like to think the LAPD might feel some repercussion after ignoring Mvuemba and other members of Smith’s family for so many years…but we know what kind of world we live in. Images via KTLA

Random Ridiculousness: Man Says He’s Too “Racist And Homophobic” To Be A Juror, Faces Prosecution

Man Says He’s Too “Racist And Homophobic” To Be A Juror Wow. People will try anything to get out of jury duty!! A WOULD-BE juror faces prosecution after he claimed he was unable to serve at Southampton Crown Court due to “extreme homophobic and racist views”. A letter written by the man was read out in court after he was selected to serve on the jury in the case of a man who was on trial for assault and dangerous driving. Presiding Judge Gary Burrell QC read the letter out in open court in which the man, who the Daily Echo cannot name for legal reasons, said his extreme views made it impossible for him to be impartial. He wrote: “I strongly believe that it would be a serious injustice to the legal system to select me for jury service. “I hold extreme prejudices against homosexuals and black/foreign people and couldn’t possibly be impartial if either appeared in court. Therefore it would not be in the court’s interest to have me a juror.” He added that in his eagerness to bring any case to a swift conclusion, he would simply vote with the majority and not give his true opinion. He concluded: “I would be more than happy to speak to a judge regarding my personal views regarding the legal system which I do not hold in high regard.” Prosecuting and defence barristers Rebecca Austin and Robert Bryan lodged a challenge to him as a juror. When questioned by Judge Burrell about whether these were his true beliefs he confirmed they were and added that he didn’t think he had the right to “judge anyone”. Judge Burrell said: “If you do genuinely hold these views then you are someone who should not be on the jury and I question whether you should be doing anything responsible in society at all.” The man, who was escorted from the court, was warned he now faced prosecution under the Contempt of Court act for failing to serve on a jury as Judge Burrell would be writing to the Attorney General about the case. SMH. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to get out of jury duty?? Source

Hunter Parrish came oh-so-close to being cast as Peeta in The Hunger Games , so the actor knows to be careful this time around. He’s trying not to get his hopes up. However, the Weeds star is aware fans have started a campaign to attach him to Catching Fire in the role of Finnick Odair and he’s attempt to remain humble, but… “I think you just kind of step back, and if it happens, it happens,” Parrish tells MTV of the rumor. “I’m not going to really spend too much time thinking about it, but I’d love to… I’m a fan of the books. I think there’s fantastic actors that would probably be better.
